Wander Over Yonder turned 10 today!

Here to say that this show really inspired me to do a lot. I cannot believe it aired today 10 years ago. Everything about this show is fantastic. The characters were iconic and well-written, the adventures they went on were goofy mixed with some emotional/wholesome moments, the story that was told was intriguing and left us wanting more, the songs were bangers, the animation is adorable and (from a technical standpoint) ahead of its time... you can tell the writers poured their heart and soul into this show and it really paid off. Its message of positivity, helping others, and loving people regardless of their imperfections is something I feel like everybody needs to hear.

If you've never seen Wander Over Yonder, I'd highly recommend it. You can find it on Disney+, Hulu, and even the very first episode was posted to DisneyXD's YouTube channel about a week ago. So definitely go check it out if you've got the time.

(Also this is my first time drawing the characters. I hope they look good. I want to draw more of them and also try to use tumblr more often, so maybe expect me to post more WOY stuff soon :D)

Happy Wander Over Yonder 10th Anniversary Day! Got any current thoughts on the show?

I want you to know this ask sent me on a whole journey. The first part being a loud 'NUH UH! It hasn't been that long!'

This was followed by realizing just how old my nephew is turning on Friday before the reality sunk in. My face drained of color, my eyes growing small from indescribable dread.

Time might be an illusion, but I am a victim to its whims.

That aside, I think my biggest take-away is the fact I think I was a lot harsher on season 2 than I should have been. Sometime I should do a rewatch to see how I currently feel on everything. Especially as this was one of the first times I was in a fandom while a show was still live and airing-- most of the shows I enjoy being ones I grew up with and had long since ended. I think it allowed my wants and expectations to judge how the season was progressing unfairly.

Don't get me wrong, I think I would've still been unhappy about how much the season relied on Hater's crush and put focused on that. But in hindsight I think that's more of a thing of 'I'm not a fan of this trope' more so than automatically making it bad writing. I also think the year long hiatus added more time for the fandom to come up with interpretations for characters like Emperor Awesome that I enjoyed much more than what the show gave us.

But, again, I don't really think that's the show's fault. Disney really screwed WOY over with their scheduling and putting their focus into other shows at its expense.

In the end I have many fond memories from the fandom and every so often I like to go back and reread the stories the wife and I created for it. It is because of WOY that I've made many friends over the years, you included, and for that I'll forever be grateful.

This would be part of a drawing I was making for WOY's 10th anniversary, but I probably won't finish that drawing so I decided to crop the other characters out of it. Do the colors look good?

I might share a sketch of the unfinished anniversary drawing, and I'll probably also finish a Sylvia drawing I had made for it. If I finished the anniversary drawing, Peepers would probably be looking at something instead of nothing (and standing on Hater's shoulder to see it better).

I think 2023 is turning out to be the year of Lord Hater (at least in my opinion).

First I imagined him giving a long pep talk about fans making Season 3 themselves.

Then I had him dress up like Craig McCracken to reason with the higher ups (in case fans weren’t motivated enough), but that didn’t exactly go as planned.

Then thanks to Chibiverse, he had a brief speaking role as Kiff’s game show announcer.

Today, I discovered that Broken Karaoke video about DTVA villains, and not only does Hater get a chance to shine, but also Killbot 86 - he played major role in The Bounty and he hadn’t been seen since The Gift. His predecessor, Killbot 85, was in The Waste of Time, where he was destroyed by Sylvia (who, after she and Ryder got separated, was trying to get a bounty).

Oh, and Lord Dominator (back in her true form outfit) also makes a cameo alongside a certain reptilian being named after certain type of candy from a certain overrated show.

Seems to me like Amphibia reps continue to steal the spotlight, though. I don’t know what makes Disney think we’d get excited by characters from a show that already got closure (specifically Amphibia), but still, seeing THREE characters from WOY, an incomplete show, is an upgrade. I’m guessing when the show’s villains drew straws, KB86 got the longest one.

I was right, “WE’RE NOT YOUR BUDDIES!” are not Hater’s last words.
