Suptober Day 10: Crossover/ @tootiredmotel follower celebration: Reunite
wc: 587 tags: scoobynatural
One moment they were all in the kitchen sharing memories, laughing about the weirdest shit that has happened to them, and the next, there was a mystery machine parked in the garage with the Scooby gang passed out inside.
“What?” Dean put his gun away to check on them along with Cas. Eileen starred with her mouth hanging open, asking if this was something she needed to get used to. Dean hopes not. “Get Sam!”
“Is this-?” Cas opened the Mystery Machine to hover his hand over Fred’s face. “But why are they not cartoons?”
Dean shrugged, opening the other door to check on the girls. “Dude, the question should be, why are they here? But shit, look! We got Buffy!”
“I thought her name was Daphne?”
“It is but the actress-you know what, never mind. Let’s just make sure they’re okay and figure out how they got here.”
Cas opens the back door to check on Shag and Scoob when Jack runs in with a big smile.
“They’re here!”
Jack runs over, his hand ready to say hello, but Dean stops him to explain that this could be a weird trap, but then he realizes, “Wait. Didn’t you just watch this movie last night?”
He nods, guilt written all over his face.
“Cas. I think I found the reason for our little reunion.” Dean tucks Jack under his arm to lead him to where Cas is petting Scooby’s head. At least the best character is awake.
Scooby was trying to explain what happened to Cas, who remembers him, but Scoob might as well just be barking--actually, that would probably be best. Cas could understand barking.
“Dean,” Cas turned to him. “I think he is trying to tell us something.”
Jack moved from Dean’s arms and ran to hug Scooby. “Hello! It’s so nice to meet you!”
Today is going to be a weird one.
“Dean! What the hell?” He hears Sam walk in. “Did you wish really hard or something?”
“I didn’t do this!” Dean defended himself as his brother came closer. “The kid did!”
Soon the gang was all awake, with memories of their last encounter intact. They all stood around the mystery machine while Jack apologized for taking the gang out of their world.
“Well, now that we’re here,” Dean is gonna think of him as Freddie Prince Jr cause he liked Freddie Prince Jr--maybe a little bit too much according to his hot face, but that’s okay, he also liked his wife-- but he talked too much like Fred for it to really work. Whatever, Fred wrapped an arm around Dean’s shoulders and brought him in close. “Let’s have some fun catching up! Come on, Dean, let’s go to a malt shop!”
“First of all, you can’t leave the bunker with your famous faces.” Dean unhooked Fred’s arm from around him and made his way to stand next to Cas, who was too busy talking to Scooby and Shaggy to notice his boyfriend was having a bi crisis. “Me and Cas will pick up some grub while you guys stay here.”
“We will?” Cas turned to him while Shaggy was still mid-explaining about what happened to Scrappy-Doo.
“Yeah, buddy, let’s go.” Dean grabs his arm and leads him to the Impala. “Eileen is in charge!”
“Yes!” He hears her say. He’s also sure that the high five was from her and Jack while Sam glared at him, but he didn’t look back to make sure.
Today was going to be a long day.

some latinenatural for my benefit mostly. read the first two chapter on ao3 aqui
Dean was still wearing a big smile when he finally kicked his boots off at home. It took everything he had to finally let Cas leave his Baby, wanting to keep pulling him in for one final kiss after another. Cas now knows what “Otro Besito.” means. Enough so that every time he heard it, he rolled his eyes, but he always leaned in. Until finally, he closed the car door and promised to text Dean tomorrow.
Cas’s number is now saved under an angel emoji porque Dean es un romantico first and foremost.
“Apenas estas llegando?” Dean looked up to see his Tio sitting on the couch with a novela playing on the tv. “Como te fue?”
“Awesome.” Dean picked up his boots and walked over to kiss the top of his Tio’s head before heading to bed. Ignoring his fake protesting of the affection. “Me voy char un baño.”
They asked about Cassie in the morning, and Dean made up some casual date, a believable one, but told them they were probably better off friends anyways. It made it harder to think of excuses to sneak out at night but working for Victor at night made it easier for Bobby not to question him.
He wished he could tell them about his actual dates. Talk about Cas’s stupid two left feet and his beautiful smile. He wished he could talk about the way Cas looked, eyes squinting and head tilting como un pajarito when Dean spoke more than three words in Spanish. But he loved it so much, and just getting those good morning texts from him made his days so much better.
[Read more under tag <3]
It was Monday again when Dean walked by Cas’s house with the raspados.
“Mi Angelito,” Dean wanted to reach and kiss him, but eyes were still watching him. So instead, he reached down and handed Cas a grocery bag filled with Tupperware. “I brought you a real lunch so you can eat it instead of just some ice.”
Cas had admitted that he came home for his lunch break to see Dean. Giving him no time to have an actual proper lunch, and Dean won’t have any of that. Su hombre va a estar lleno y feliz con su comida.
Cas took the bag in shock before handing it back to Dean. “No, Dean, I can’t take this.”
“I woke up extra early to make it for you y no lo quieres?”
“¡Si te quiero!” Cas reached to touch Dean’s cheek, blue eyes watching Dean’s reaction as he quietly added, “Mucho.”
Dean swallowed hard before taking Cas’s hand and giving it a quick little kiss before letting it fall. “Cas, cariño, I was talking about the food. I said ‘no lo quieres’ not ‘no me quieres’. Do you hear the difference?”
“Oh.” Cas stepped back and looked at the plastic bag in his hand. “Then I um-thank you.”
Dean chuckled, stepping forward to wrap Cas in his arms for a quick squeeze. “Ay, pendejo.”
“Dean!” Dean could picture the roll of the eyes without even looking at Cas. He tried to hold in his laughter as he pulled away just a little, just enough, so their faces stayed inches away.
He raised an eyebrow at Cas as he asked, “What? Ya no me quieres?”
Dean could see Cas’s wheels turning in his mind as he mouths the words Dean just said to him. The blush on his cheeks growing as the realization hits him. “Me. You said-yes! I mean, si! I mean, yes or whatever!”
Dean was sure Cas had no idea what he was saying. It’s not like he said amo. No, Cas said quiero. It was the less intense version of ammo, but still,l it relatively meant the same thing, and Dean wasn’t sure if he was ready to repeat it.
“Quiero un beso.” Dean says instead, wanting to rest his forehead down on Cas’s but restrains himself. The hug was already pushing it out in public.
“Dean, my brother is home.” Cas looked at the house behind him before looking back at Dean, eyes sad, but Dean only smiled back at him. His hand reaches to pinch Cas’s cheek gently while he winks at him.
Te quiero. Es lo que quiere decir pero ahorita no es el momento. It’s too early for that.
It’s fine.
Dean lifts his hat enough to scratch his sweaty hair before he jumps back on his bike. “Pick you up later then?”
Cas nods as he holds the grocery bag tight in his right hand before lamely waving at Dean with his left.
Dean leaves with a loud ring of his bells.
A month of sneaking around goes by with Dean asking Victor to tell Bobby he was working for him during his date nights. It was obvious Victor knew, but Dean was way too scared to confirm it. Either way, Victor agreed to help him sneak around and didn’t push for details.
Though he always eyed Cas like a challenge whenever he came around, Cas never seemed to notice as he was caught up rereading the same menu he has been looking at for weeks.
It was a Thursday night that Cas called to ask, “So what are we?”
Dean was in the middle of mopping the bathroom stalls in the office building, with Bobby doing a different one on the same floor. Sam was somewhere throwing away the trash from the offices while a few other folks that worked for his Tio cleaned up whatever they had to do. The only sounds in the offices were vacuums and music coming from someone’s speaker.
“Cas, I’m kinda busy working right now.”
“You said I could call Thursday nights cause you get bored.” Fuck. He did say that. “Unless you don’t wanna answer.”
“It’s just…no es algo-”
“English, Dean. I can’t read your expressions over the phone.” Oh, so that’s how he catches on.
“Exactly! It’s not something to discuss over the phone. We can go out tomorrow and talk about it.”
Cas didn’t say anything but Dean could hear him moving some stuff around.
“Cas?” Dean pushed the mop bucket out of the bathroom as he finished. Trying not to think about how here Dean was, working late as a janitor while Cas was staying late at his fancy corporate job. Fuck, si piensa mucho en eso se va a volver loco. “Cariño? Andale Angelito, don’t be mad at me.”
“I’m not mad.”
“Then talk to me.” Dean hears Cas make a loud and tired sigh. “Mira, que suspiro!” He teased.
“Dean, I don’t know-Ah! Fuck!” Dean hears Cas’s phone fall against something hard. Dean’s heart raced, not knowing what to do.
“Cas? Castiel!” Dean calls to his phone, already abandoning his bucket to start jogging to the door to drive wherever Cas was, even though he didn’t know where that was. “Contestame, cabron!”
Dean stops when he hears Cas awkwardly laugh through the phone. “Oh no, I’m sorry. I usually never stay this late. I’ve just been behind the last few weeks.”
Dean couldn’t hear what the other person said, but Cas sounded fine, so Dean took a breath of relief.
“Dean?”
“You scared the shit out of me.”
“I’m sorry. The janitor walked into my office, and it scared me. I didn’t realize how late it was.” Dean can already picture Cas running his hand through his hair. “Don’t think I didn’t hear you call me…cabron.”
Mierda. “Well, you scared me! I thought something-Don’t do that!”
“Dean,” Oh, good. Cas was smiling. “I didn’t think you cared so much.”
“Shut up.” Dean heard the echo of his own voice. “Oye, cariño, take me off speaker! I don’t wanna hear myself.”
“Sorry, but I need my hands to pack up my things. But please, continue talking about how much you care about me while I do so.”
Dean grumbled, “I’m hanging up.”
“But te quiero!”
“You can’t keep using that against me, Angelito. Es tu culpa.”
Cas was silent for a second before Dean heard, “Excuse me. If you’re done, you can just-Sir? Hey!”
“Cas?” And before Dean can panic again, he hears a familiar voice call his name from the other end.
“Dean?”
Dean’s heart sinks as the voice echoes in his mind. Dean’s head falls into his hand as he starts to shake just a little before answering. “Sam. Tell me where you are.”

Dean has an official novio for like half a night and he just can't stop thinking about it.
Read the other parts of my latinenatural fic Aqui! Y como siempre, I don't know what I'm doing.
Dean knew su Tio Bobby was going to be the most important and hardest person to accept Cas. El viejito had trust issues with anybody he didn’t know pero americanos especially. Maybe he would accept the gay stuff easier than the fact that his boyfriend was white. Pero add white y con dinero, va a tener un infarto del corazón. It’s too far from what they are used to.
Y con Rufus talking government conspiracies with him like they’re Rosa De Gauadalupe episodes, Bobby is nothing but a paranoid viejito.
He left Benny in charge of finishing the top floor with another guy and Cas waved goodbye, his usual lame little wave that made Dean’s chest ache for him, before Benny grabbed his attention. Dean wanted to wave back but he was busy trying to get away from his Tio’s pellizcos that led him to the elevator.
On the elevator ride down, Bobby warned Dean and Sam to stay away from the actual workers of the building.
“Todos estos americanos piensan que pueden ser lo que le dan la gana nomas porque tienen dinero.”
“Pero, Tío-”
“Ni los quiero solos con ellos.” Bobby turned to look at both of them, the regular grouchy old man face replaced by concerned round eyes. He sighed as he talked slower, “Ya saben. Si algo pasa, va a ser tu palabra contra la de ellos. So nomas, dale ojo y cuidasen. Okay?”
“Si, Tio.” Dean and Sam both say at the same time.
Dean could feel Sam’s pity eyes on him the whole ride down.
For the rest of the night, Dean worked under Bobby’s watch along with Sam. Sneaking off to go with Cas might be more complicated than he thought, and while he cleaned, he kept trying to think of excuses, but nothing felt believable enough. He might just end up heading home at this rate.
Pero Cas’ promise to celebrate kept replaying in his head. Leaving him feeling all warm and fuzzy porque they haven’t really done much since getting together. It could be porque siempre cuando empiezan; Dean gets a little nervous since he hasn’t been with a guy before, so he makes some excuse to stop before the belts come off.
Though their last make-out session ended with them coming in their pants like teenagers and for the rest of the date, Dean kept trying to ignore the fact that Cas was sitting by him with no underwear on.
Luckily, Cas was patient with him and always made sure Dean was comfortable. Still, Dean can’t keep the image of Cas panting his name at bay, and now that they're official--Y Dean ya acepto que si esta enamorado de el--he wanted the first time with Cas to happen soon.
Como ahora.
Esta noche.
¡Ay, Dios mío! He’s going to have sex with Cas tonight. He’s going to fucking do it. Oh fuck. He’s going to...He needs to sit down.
“Oye, cabrón!” Dean looks up to see Bobby glaring at him while Sam watched him with an amused smile. “No se lo que estás pensando pero trabaja! O ni te pago nada.”
“I do this for free!”
“Por pendejo.”
They finished in little under an hour and luckily before midnight, so Dean still had the excuse to go out with some friends. El baile has been his saving grace with sneaking out, along with working for Victor, so he figured Bobby wouldn’t question him much if he says some friends are going to pick him up.
Pero wait.
Dean just had his hand down a toilet, he had a glove, but still, he needed to go home and shower.
He was helping pack everything up, waiting for Cas to come downstairs, so he could sneak off and let him know that he would go home, take a shower real quick and then go pick him up. Todo va a estar bien. Dean no está pensando demasiado de esto que se está sintiendo faint. Nomas tiene que respirar profundamente.
Uno.
The elevator dings.
Dos.
The doors slide open.
Tres.
Dean’s eyes widened as he choked on his breath, creating a scene when a coughing fit started. All eyes were on him as he tried to hold in his cough, but his face started to heat up.
Dean felt embarrassed as he met Cas’s concerned eyes, but he held his hand out to stop him from coming to check up on him, giving him a thumbs up in reassurance when Cas looked like he wasn’t going to listen to him.
Dean was just taken back when he looked up to see su novio de una hora en los brazos de otro. Dean felt Sam come to his side, but he pushed him away, letting him know he was okay before standing tall.
Cas laughed at something Benny leaned in close to say, with his stupid accent.
Bobby walked by, struggling to carry some of the buckets, and Dean stopped him so his Tio could see what he was looking at.
“Tio, y porque you don’t tell Benny anything about staying away from the americano?”
Bobby looked up to where Dean glared, but he just waved his hand before letting out an annoyed old man grunt.
“Él no es mi niño. Aver, que me importa Benny. Nomas quiero que llegue a trabajar a tiempo y no puede hacer eso! Pinche huevon.”
Bobby pushed his way past him, grumbling about nobody helping him even though Dean just finished packing up the extra van, and Dean scrubbed a hand down his face to leave it over his mouth. Then, watching as Cas’s eyes widen at the sight of Benny’s dumb fake fangs.
El pinche loco deals with brujeria, which is why Bobby has been too scared even to consider firing Benny for all his tardies. Dean thought Benny was cool, someone interesting to look at every once in a while, but right now, Dean would happily fire him if he didn’t get his arm off his boyfriend.
Dean whistles to grab Benny’s attention, a loud chifla that grabbed everyone else’s attention tambien. “Benny, hermano, you’re driving.” Dean points a thumb to the van outside and digs into his pocket for the keys.
He chucks the keys at Benny, who caught them with a raised brow. “Since when you let me drive?”
Benny and Cas walked over to him, Cas eyeing him with a small smile as if he was excited to just be near him. The blush that warmed his ears was quickly ignored as he cleared his throat, looking back at Benny.
“Just go warm up the car.”
“Sure, hermano.” Benny shrugged and looked back at Cas with a glimmering smirk to show off the fang if Dean has to see it again, lo va a jalar de su boca. “How about I walk you to your car, Castiel?”
Cas looked between Benny and Dean nervously, but Dean made the decision. He took Benny’s arm off Cas and started shoving him towards the door.
“It’s Mr. Novak to you, bruja. At least have the decency to respect our customers while we are at work.”
Benny chuckled as he waved back at Cas, who was following behind them. “Well, how about I walk Mr. Novak to his car then? I’m sure he’ll appreciate the company.” Benny winked, and Dean had to fight his jealousy.
“I’ll walk him! You go do your damn job!” He didn’t fight hard enough.
“Wait, no. I wanna-” Benny started, but he must have read something in Dean that made him sigh, giving up. “Fine. Have a goodnight, Mr. Novak.”
“You too.” Cas sounded like he enjoyed the whole thing while Dean was heating up in a mix of embarrassment and celos.
They locked the office building, and Benny made his way to the back of the building while Dean followed Cas to private parking spots meant for the important folks. He watched as his boyfriend dug into his backpack for the keys, cause, of course, they wouldn't be in his pocket.
“Perdón.” Dean quickly said as they walked closer to Cas’s car. “I didn’t mean to make such a scene back there.”
“I’m guessing that means sorry.” Cas clicked his car to life. It was a beautiful and new-looking car, making Dean wonder why Cas always insisted Dean drive when he had such a nicer car. “And it’s fine. I’m not really into the jealous-”
“¡No soy celoso!” Dean quickly defended himself half-heartedly. “I mean, I’m usually not.”
Cas opened his driver-side door and threw his backpack into the passenger side before turning back to Dean. “Benny was just talking to me about his...lifestyle. I found it interesting.”
“Porfavor,” Dean took a step forward and took Cas’s face in his hands. “Don’t turn into a vampiro. I need my Tio to like you.”
Cas chuckled before he took Dean’s hands. Their fingers intertwined as they swung between them. “Right now, I only care if you like me.”
“Eso si, you don’t have to worry about.” Dean leaned forward and kissed at the corner of Cas’s lips. “I think I like you way too much.”
“Then why aren’t you coming home with me.” Cas turned his head so their lips could brush, kissing him slowly. “I thought we were-”
“We are!” Dean pressed Cas against his car, feeling Cas’s hands reach to wrap around him. Bundling Dean’s shirt in his fist as he tugged him closer, heavy breaths mixing as they continued to brush lips. “Nomas me voy a ir a mi casa and shower first. But I’ll go over.”
Cas hummed in response before he tilted forward to kiss him properly. He felt the swipe of Cas’s tongue on his lower lip before Dean moaned into it. Opening up to welcome Cas and completely melting under his touch. Pero desea más. Desea tocar más piel. Desea quemarse en el calor de su novio. Y nomas…
A long honk made them both jump and pull back, breathing heavily as they continued to look at each other. Dean’s heart raced in fear of being caught, but then Cas smiled--fuck. Está completamente perdido en su novio.--as he reached over to fix Dean's hair.
Dean catches his breath, heart not slowing down, as he feels Cas’s fingers comb through his hair. The soft-touch of his hand slowly caressing down the side of his face until they fall to his side. He looked wide-eyed as his chest falls steady against Dean’s own, watching him como si tuviera la luna y las estrellas en la mano.
“I love you.” Cas breathes, his face softening with a slight relief of a smile. “I didn’t want you to go thinking I don’t. Cause I do. I love--te amo.”
“Angelito,” Dean’s voice was shaky as he dropped his face to hide into Cas’s neck.
Cas wrapped his arms around Dean’s shoulders, holding him in the safety of his arms. He felt a kiss on his shoulder; it was warm and lingering.
“I’ll see you later?” They heard the loud and long car horn again. Reminding Dean he had to leave.
“Yeah. Yeah, nos vemos.”
-
Dean walked over to Cas’ front door, smelling himself. He already knew he smelled good from Sam’s comment about using a whole bottle of cologne--he aired himself out on the drive over just in case he wasn’t lying--and because he scrubbed himself raw in the shower. Every inch of him, and he means every goddamn inch, was clean like never before.
Cas does live just a few blocks away from la colonia, so it can’t be that fancy. Hopefully.
He rings at Cas’s doorbell as he switches from one leg to the other. His mind was focused entirely at what he would say to Cas as soon as he opened the door--maybe he should just kiss him and not say anything--that it scared the shit out of him when he noticed someone standing beside him.
“Ay! Pinche-” Dean took a deep breath and glared at the guy standing beside him with an amused grin. “Who are you?”
The guy lifted the brown paper McDonalds bags. “Delivery.”
“Oh. I didn’t know he ordered food.” Dean reached to take them, but the guy pulled them out of reach.
“Unless you are Cas Novak, then I can’t give you these.”
“He’s my-”
The door quickly opens wide to a freshly showered--like still hair dripping showered-- no shirt, sweatpants hanging low, and wide-eyed looking Cas.
Both Dean and the delivery guy stop bickering to say, “Wow.” simultaneously.
Porque, Cas looked so good. Mejor que good! Era el hombre más guapo que había visto. Swayze y Ford no podían compararse con su novio.
¡Su pinche novio!
He wanted to touch him, but at the same time, he was suddenly too scared to make the first move. But that’s his--fuck!--that’s his boyfriend. That’s his boyfriend.
That’s his fucking white, gorgeous, and totally out of his league class-wise boyfriend!
Ay. Dean felt weak in the knees, his eyes still stuck on his boyfriend, while Cas took the food with a shy smile.
Dean only looked away when the stranger nudged him. “Lucky bastard.” He mumbled as he walked away.
And yeah.
“Dean, come in already!”
Yeah, I am!
Pero también es un pinche cobarde.

for @one-more-offbeat-anthem follower celebration. day 1 (shh i know i am late)
They drove past it three days ago, and he didn’t think anything of it. Sam mentioned it in passing, but Dean only hummed in response, not caring about a dumb big garden in the middle of nowhere. He didn’t care about the endangered plant life or how beautiful it looked at night; he just wanted to get the hunt over with so they could head back home.
The thing was, Cas cared.
Every free second they weren’t working the case; Cas was on his phone or the laptop looking at pictures or watching videos of the garden close by. Then, he’ll randomly shoot out a random fact about the local wildlife in the area--good to know that they’re some bears stealing picnic baskets around them--before talking about the case again.
And he didn’t mind Cas going off on tangents about invasive plant species; what Dean had a problem with was that Cas wasn’t going on about them to him.
All conversations about the garden were directed at Sam, who admittedly actually looked interested in the subject. Still! He didn’t like feeling like Cas--his best friend with a deep and more profound bond--felt uncomfortable geeking out to him.
By the fourth night, Dean stayed up scrolling through his phone, trying to learn as much as he could about the local garden conservatory so that he could join in on the conversation. Cas was sound asleep beside him--they usually share bed since Sam usually goes full starfish on his--probably dreaming about meadows and...and shit like that.
Cas won’t know what hit him in the morning.
“What are we doing here?”
Dean turned off the car when they were parked outside the botanic garden. He turned his sly proud little grin towards Cas, holding his hand out to motion outside their front window.
“You won’t shut up about it, so here we are.”
Cas didn’t look as excited as Dean pictured in his head, though he doubted he would have been thanked so nicely. Instead, Cas seemed almost suspicious. Eyeing him like he was a shifter instead of the real deal.
“What? You don't wanna go?”
“You let me sleep in.” Sleep in was putting it nicely. It was noon by the time Cas even opened his eyes for the first time today. “You even took me to breakfast and let me order a dumb coffee drink-”
“It’s not coffee.” Dean rolled his eyes while Cas ignored him.
“Without you complaining to me about it. You even tried it.”
“So? What’s your issue?” The coffee was pure sugar, so of course, it tasted good. “Am I being too nice to you?”
“Yes. I find it unsettling.” Cas crossed his arms over his chest, staring daggers into Dean as if that would make him admit things he needed admitting to. As if Cas forgot that he was just as stubborn, maybe even more if he tries hard enough.
“Shut up and get out of the car. We’re going to see the damn birds and the bees.”
At that, Cas raised his eyebrows in surprise before he quickly followed Dean out of the car. They walked with shoulders brushing to the entrance, and before Cas could ask what they should see first, Dean took his hand and expertly took him around the garden.
“You researched this place before we came.” The sun was setting as they walked through the shady forest, fingers now gently intertwined instead of the tight, nervous grip from the beginning. “Why are we here, Dean?”
“I told you.”
“Okay. Then tell me the reason you don’t want to admit.” Cas pulled his hand back and stood in front of Dean, eyes kind but determined. Nowadays, they don't look so sad. “We have spent over two hours here, and you just let me ramble nonstop about stuff you don’t care about. You even held my hand the whole time. It’s...It’s confusing.”
“What’s so confusing?”
“Dean,” Cas sighed as if it was obvious, and it was, but Dean just can’t think of that right now. “I said I would give you space to sort out your feelings, but I do not appreciate being strung up like this. So unless you mean it, then I-I….” Cas trailed off and looked almost disappointed when he reached for Dean’s hand to hold. “Who am I kidding? I take whatever you give me.”
“Cas.”
“Come on. It’s getting dark, and I want to see a few more things in the daylight.” Cas started to tug him along, already talking about the plants they would see next, while Dean looked at the back of his head.
He knew he kept doing this to Cas. Sam and Eileen have lectured him about it since Cas came back, but Dean can’t help it. He wanted Cas’s attention, he craved it, but he can’t seem to admit to wanting more even if he was desperate for it. Something keeps holding him back from just...loving him.
Love.
I love you. Goodbye, Dean.
“I love you.”
Cas dropped Dean’s hand like it stung him but didn’t turn around to face him, so Dean repeated it. Again, feeling the words seep out between his lips, more confident than the first time.
“I’m-I’m sorry, Cas. Sorry I keep messing up and-and fucking up.” Dean walked closer to place a hand on his shoulder. “But don’t go around thinking you deserve this. Cause you deserve so much better, Cas. You do. Deserve a lot better than what I can give you. Deserve someone better.”
Cas tightened up and slowly turned around to face him. Crying. He was crying.
Dean quickly patted his pockets for the tissues he packed just in case his allergies started to act up, but he fumbled, hands shaking, at the sight of the crying man in front of him.
“Wait. I got-I got...shit! Don’t cry, just give me-Here!” Dean held the bundle of tissues he stole from the motel. When Cas didn’t take them, Dean started to press the napkins to his cheek. “Sorry!” He said when Cas winced because he pushed too hard.
Cas shoved his hands away, and before Dean could feel hurt from the gesture, Cas pulled him in for a hug.
“I should take you to the forest more often.” Cas chuckled, and Dean looked around to see they were in the oak area of the garden, branches crowding the sky above them. Cas hid his face into Dean’s shoulder, whispering. “I love you, Dean. So please, stop holding me at arm’s length. I lived long enough to know that I won’t love anyone else this way, so please, give me a chance. No. Give us a chance.”
Dean hesitantly wrapped his arms around Cas, feeling his every breath under his palms. His forehead fell into Cas’s shoulder as his eyes shut, as he finally relaxed into the embrace.
“Okay.”

“Happy Father’s Day.”
Sam has just called to wish him a happy father’s day. The call was late, so he probably didn’t even realize what day it was, considering they were out in Ireland hunting down a monster for Eileen’s friends. It was surprising, though, since this was not something they ever talk about, but Sam taught it would be fitting. Considering he wished Dean a happy mother’s day as well.
“You’re my parent, Dean.” Sam had chuckled. “Don’t sound so surprised.”
He wasn’t, but he did feel a little lighter being acknowledged as such. He felt almost embarrassed. As if the secret was finally out, but everyone knew Dean was the one who raised Sam.
Sam hung up, reminding Dean to be a good Dad to someone else now.
That lead to Dean dragging his feet over to Jack’s new bedroom. The walls were a blank canvas on purpose; Jack wanted to paint something himself, and Cas did not have the heart to tell his kid no. Dean wasn’t one to deny the kid anything either. Furniture was finally where it was supposed to be, and the lights were dimmed a calm blue.
He leaned against the doorframe as he watched Cas sitting up against the bed frame with their overgrown four-year-old curled up to his side. Cas was reading him those Narnia books, they’re starting the second one tonight, and Jack had his head resting on Cas’s shoulder as he looked at the book while his Dad read. Cas’s arm was resting around Jack’s shoulder, and his hand buried in Jack’s hair as he subconsciously scratches at his head.
Dean watched as Jack flipped the page for Cas but didn’t interrupt further than that.
“Okay, that was four chapters.” Cas closed the book and turned to press an easy kiss on Jack’s head. “Time for the little God to get his rest.”
“I’m not tired.” Jack scooted down into his bed and under the covers, already hugging his teddy to his chest.
“Make yourself tired.” Cas teased as he stood up to tuck Jack better and leave another kiss on their kid’s head. “If you wake up early, you can do your chores.”
Dean could hear Jack’s loud groan from where he was, and he couldn’t stop the chuckle from coming out.
“That’s code for don’t wake your Dad before 10.” Dean walked over to stand beside Cas and look down at the kid. “Don’t worry. Me and you can go on a bike ride if you’re that bored.”
“I would like that.” Jack smiled up at Dean before he yawned. “I am not tired.”
“Sure, kid.” Dean patted Jack’s shoulder before turning to leave with Cas beside him. “Night, Jack.”
“Goodnight, Jack.”
“Goodnight, Dad. Night, Dean. Love you.”
“Love you.” Dean and Cas say at the same time as the light switch was turned on and the bedroom door was closed.
Dean doesn’t tell Cas about Father’s Day. They probably don’t even know about the damn holiday since it wasn’t one neither Sam or Dean keep tabs on. So Dean instead follows Cas to the kitchen to finish unpacking the room, but mostly he watches as Cas excitingly talks about how he wants to set up his garden outside. About which vegetables are in season to grow and what flowers he could get to attract more bees, Dean will argue against the bees later since he doesn’t feel like losing an argument today.
“Jack will be in and out a lot, but I just want to make sure he knows he has a home here with us.” Cas sighs as he looked at the ugly Power Rangers mug Sam bought Jack at a thrift store. “Do you think we can have him for another week? Heaven can get by without him, can’t they?”
Dean walked over and brought Cas into a tight hug. “We can ask.”
“I miss him already.” Cas tilted his head up to look back at Dean. “Maybe I can wake him up, and we can--No? No. Okay.” Cas settled his head back on Dean’s shoulder.
“You’re a great Dad, Cas. You know that?” Dean gave him another squeeze. “The kid is so lucky to have you.”
“Thank you, Dean. It means so much that you think so.”
“Hey, I know so! I think I’ve seen enough of my share of crappy parents to know you’re one of the good ones.” Dean gently tilts Cas’s face back to look at him. “Number one, Daddy.”
Cas scrunched his face at that, and they both chuckled before sharing a kiss.
“You’re a good dad too.” Cas patted Dean’s cheek before pressing a hard kiss against his other cheek. Making Dean pull his face away half-heartedly as Cas chuckled. “Thank you for doing this with me.”
“No problem, but if you bite me again, I’ll kick your ass.”
“Shut up.” Cas nibbled at Dean’s cheek, and soon they were chasing each other in the kitchen, trying to keep their laughter down so they won’t wake up the golden child who will never admit to being as grumpy as his Dad when he is woken up.
