St Kilda, Scotland, achieved World Heritage Site status in 1986 for both its natural and cultural qualities. In 1957 the three main islands of St Kilda (Hirta, Dun, Soay, and Borerary) were given to the National Trust for Scotland.

Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument is the single largest fully-protected conservation area in the world. It encompasses 582,578 square miles of the Pacific Ocean (1,508,870 square kilometers) – an area nearly the size of the Gulf of Mexico. The Monument, created expressly to protect an exceptional array of natural and cultural resources, was established by Presidential Proclamation 8031 on June 15, 2006 and expanded by Presidential Proclamation 9478 on August 26, 2016 under the authority of the Antiquities Act (16 U.S.C. 431-433). It is the United States' only mixed (natural and cultural) UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for both its cultural and natural significance.

Raven Crag - Lake District.

Sometimes, photographers like myself venture out early in the morning to capture a glorious sunrise with wonderful warm colours. At other times, we venture out regardless of the conditions to capture the sheer moody magnificence of the landscape in any weather. Today was definitely one of those latter occasions.

It's the first 'sunrise' I'd done out in the hills for quite some time, as this year I've focused mainly on sunsets. From the outset, I knew there was very little chance of the sun appearing, and I had the waterproofs on before I even set off - which was a good decision as the rain started heavily very early on and didn't let up for the whole outing.

There are a few locations which I personally think look best in these kind of conditions, and Raven Crag is one of them. I always feel like it has a slightly sinister and ominous atmosphere, so this kind of weather sets the scene perfectly for me. I stopped in this position for a good 20-30 minutes as the mist swirled around the summit crags, seen here from one of the forestry tracks on my ascent. The little tuft of grass in the centre of the track provided just the right amount of foreground interest without detracting from the impressive backdrop.

After capturing this picture, I carried on to the summit of Raven Crag and then the nearby Castle Crag.

This juice place in my neighborhood is an actual World Heritage Site (to me🗣)
