Dark was certain that someone was messing with him. They had to be.
It wasn't every day, and it wasn't too much, but he had been coming to his office each morning only to discover entire chunks of paperwork moved around. Perhaps, in his exhaustion, he had forgotten about it. Just simply set them aside and...forgot. Unlikely, but entirely possible.
Scraps of paper would be found in his desk drawers with silly faces and doodles all over them. He began his mental list of suspects, and quickly ruled them all out. The drawers were kept locked each night. There's no way any of the people he could think of were responsible without breaking everything else on the way to do that.
And then he discovered handwriting that looked heartbreakingly familiar, though he couldn't understand why it caused him to freeze in place like that. Something, deep in the hurt past of him, the parts of a man with a different name, a man who was letting his sister rest...the parts of him that he had shoved down and back and away for a reason, called out for the owner of that writing. That didn't matter, what did matter is that he had discovered that the writing was needed fixes to paperwork, sloppy mistakes he had done after too many days awake.
The next morning he discovered his chair not at all behind his desk like it usually was. Behind the door, so he hit it when opening it. Under the window that looked out over the grounds. Upside down on his desk. Each day, a different place, and he found himself getting annoyed at this, growling lowly under his breath as he slammed it back in place.
Two weeks after that, he opened the door to discover every single book in his office had been flipped upside down and backwards on the sprawling shelves. He sighed, took his time, and began righting each book, one by one.
He was so tired of these shenanigans, and truly the only way to be rid of them would be to catch them in the act.
That night, he stayed all night, pacing, waiting for something, for anything to happen. He pinched the bridge of his nose, sighing with exhaustion. Was this another fruitless chase? Perhaps he needed an extended vacation...who knew when he last actually took one? If anything--
Dark froze, feeling a pair of arms far too chilly wrap around him in that same, achingly familiar way. A hug. When was the last time anyone had ever given him a hug that wasn't Wilford's forceful--
The arms retreated, and he whirled in place, looking desperately for who it was that made the long dead heart ache this way. A sliver of movement out of the corner of his eye made his head whip towards the shattered mirror that sat behind his desk, the mirror he had made sure didn't sit and rot with the rest of that house.
The specter's smile froze his blood and warmed him just as quickly, as they pressed their hand against the glass, disappearing instantly.
He had solved the mystery, and if he could still emote past cold acceptance and blazing rage, Dark would cry tears of relief.
His little monster, ever the prankster.

Happy holiday! Do you have headcannon of what would be damien's nickname for the da? And also did those nickname change when he's dark?

For Damien...
Damien very much gives off the "I'll use endearing pet names without us being in a relationship" vibes. Either as a cover or as friends.
"My dear" is a common one
As well as "little monster". Just the way it's said in WKM feels so much like a nickname used by a group that's turned into a term of endearment. The inflection paired with that warm, bright grin, you know?
Mostly, however, his nicknames are likely going to be largely based off the DA's name. Shortening it, or turning it into a pun that'll make the DA groan.
"Starlight" is one I like to use for my DA. Because...you don't see them until the conditions are just right, and then they shine so brightly it steals your breath away. (In return, he gets called "Sunshine".)
Dark...well.
It's always there, right on the tip of his tongue. All the endearments, all the old nicknames. But he knows his tone is different now. Where it was warm, it's cold. He sounds like he's sneering half the time.
It all sounds snide. And with the DA? He doesn't want it to.
So he doesn't, not until even he gets tired, lets nostalgia get to him. His voice softens when it's not tempered with anger.
"My dear" sounds more personal. "Little monster" regains it's gentle teasing quality. "Darling" comes more naturally.
He can't bring himself to use the nicknames and puns based off the DA's name, however. Either he's afraid of reminding the DA of who he used to be (and can no longer be), or he feels like he doesn't deserve to. The puns are hardest...his anger has burned away his sense of humor.

Ok yeah, exploring the potential dynamics between the District Attorney and the rest of the WKM cast after the tragedy that was poker night is fun and all.
But what about a DA who's just batshit feral, what about a DA who hates literally everybody following what happened. What about a DA who has become so, viscerally monstrous from being trapped in that manor for almost a century that they manage to bust out for the sole purpose of ruining lives.
Need a DA who is so unimpressed by Darks attempts to get rid of Actor that they decide, fuck it, I'll do it my damn self.
They were a lawyer, they got the skills and charisma to social engineer some bullshit that would flip the status quo on its head. That's a source of untapped angst and potentially wild comedy.
I have the creative energy to make a whole ass sideblog exploring just this concept and I'm not afraid to use it.

Theory/Headcanon: What if the version of Who Killed Markiplier we see isn't what actually happened on the night of Actor's death? What if it's one of his stories, putting the DA through his retelling of events. It would explain things like people explaining things that, had the DA not been trapped for so long, they likely would have remembered like who the Colonel was or that he was Mark's childhood friend (I know the out of universe reason of us the viewer needing to know, but in character they probably would have been at the wedding), or a storm with no rain, but it could also be a way for Actor to paint himself in a better light.
See how everyone was so uncaring and unorganised about his death? Even after he welcomed them into his home. Even after he was so kind.
See how quickly your friends turned on you? After you did nothing but help. And not one thought to defend you, did they?
See how the twins abandoned you? How they used you? How they promised you'd be safe?
See how I am the only one you can trust?
