yes!! i've realized i have a habit of combining show characters in order to keep the cast small (mylene's activism got repurposed for alya, max's compsci stuff got given to nino), so i decided to merge juleka with socqueline.

and when i say childhood friends, i mean they were little. like 5 or 6

their friendship started to go south in middle school, as that's when their interests really began to diverge and juliette started to lean into scene/alternative fashion like her older brother luka. this is when she starts going by juleka and dying her hair purple and such, and marinette is much more of a shoujo coquette kind of girl and started to find juleka's more extroverted behavior and "cringiness" off-putting (though, when you eventually have a body pillow of your favorite celebrity, can you really judge your ex-best friend for having a yaoi paddle)

of course, their friendship gets truly severed in high schoolwhen juleka starts dating rose and prioritizing her relationship with rose over her friendship with marinette. of course, considering rose's general disposition and love of pink is somewhat similar to marinette's... it's safe to assume that juleka found the same things attractive in marinette, but thought she would never return the feelings. marinette reluctantly dating luka later on is yet another punch to the gut.

absolutely. insufferably so. the only benefit of having a girl would've been that her child would be a mini version of her, but otherwise raising girls is "too much drama" for her and adrien was a very "easy" kid.

plus, i think this sort of "devouring mother" archetype fits very well with Gabriel's parenting techniques. Emilie would (in a sense) "love too much" while Gabriel "loves too little", and yet neither of them really address Adrien's needs. Adrien is a pawn to them, a little doll they can use to play house, and both their displays of affection towards their son are exclusive to what benefits them. Emilie smothers her son to boost her own self-image as a "loving mother", whereas Gabriel's small crumbs of affection are just to maintain the relationship so Adrien will agree to continue being exploited as a model.

But yeah, I think Emilie is perfect for that creepy, no-boundaries, "a mother is her son's first love" territory. ex:

Adrien: Hey dude... when's the last time your mom slept in the same bed as you?

Nino: Idk, when I was like five, I think. Probably happened once or twice, dude. ....You?

Pimple Asker here. Shortly after I posted that, I fell half-asleep and dreamt of vast rooms with bright shiny metal floors and dark surfaces that were sometimes plastic, sometimes leather. There were countless stainless steel nails, sticking up from the floor, growing and shrinking across the floor like ripples in a pond. As I visualised them, it was as if they were entering my brain, accompanied by a visceral static sound between my ears.

Colt and Amelie are freakishly normal, if only to contrast the fact that Felix will be the second coming of Draco Malfoy with added cain instinct. (Colt is alive, given by a small tidbit in Ch53 where Gabriel asks to speak to the founder of Fathom Enterprises directly.) They loved and doted on their son a normal and healthy amount, but Felix is evil anyways as well as immensely jealous that Adrien gets to be the famous one. To contrast Adrien further, Felix basically succeeds in every area Adrien fails—mostly when it comes to being a classist stuck-up little prick. And he likes horseback riding and billiards, the pompous fuck.

It's partially gift-giving, but more in the sense that he likes helping his s/o where they need it the most. ...And when you're one of the richest idiots in Paris, most of the time the one thing they need more than you is money.

Going a bit into a Marxist analysis of the Cannibalism Chapter , Adrien is conditioned to see himself as a resource first and person second. This is why being eaten alive is so tantalizing to him—it's the distribution of his "value" to those who are more worthy of it. (Actually, his interest in it is multifaceted, but I'll leave that for its own silly post.) So, this willingness to provide financially is an extension of that same desire. He finds that the pinnacle of his worth as a person is what others can exploit him for, as that is what he was raised to believe by his (exploitative) parents.

That kind of bled into your second guess as to why he would unconsciously hookerify his partners, but I do agree that that is also true—He has plenty of insecurities regarding people appreciating him for who he is. He has horrible abandonment issues and has felt unloved in most of his interpersonal relationships, so he will leverage anything he can if that means his partner won't leave him. This is why he hastily regifts Marinette's pastries to Claudia in Chapter 55: Not only has he been using his money to bribe Claudia into maintaining their relationship (before the breakup, that is), but now he's doing it with food, something that he knows Claudia has trouble getting. Chapter 55 is actually so good for showing off a taste of Adrien's more manipulative habits. Like with the prostitution thing, his intentions are... pure-ish? But it's still kind of scummy and pathetic, and I like when his flaws get to shine.

Also if Claudia wasn't so caught up in her reluctance to rely on others (because accepting gifts is, in her mind, what leads to people asking things from you in return), she would 100% be willing to continue the relationship even if it was solely financially driven. She does appreciate Adrien's company on its own, and she does genuinely care for him... but her issue with the dynamic is actually more that accepting money puts her in a "debt" to him and she doesn't like where that could lead. This was the intended implication of her Ch49 spiel to Karra, and later fleshed out in her conversation with Chat in Ch55, but I'll be more explicit about it in the future now that it's brought to my attention. Especially when they're finally honest about these insecurities and talk it out like they should. I had a few scenes in mind where this would play out, but they were written with a different trajectory for the story in mind so they might not work anymore. Oopsies

Sentitrio (Adrien, Kagami, Felix) are 100% autistic coded. However I'd absolutely argue that they're all queer coded too, either sexuality-wise or gender-wise. I have no doubt about that

I also do agree that they're autistic-coded, even if that doesn't translate to Adrien himself being explicitly a teacher's pet type or "gifted" outside of the many talents he takes lessons for (and even that could be explained as the result of rigorous tutoring and not necessarily a natural result of being a savant). I will say that I specifically headcanon Adrien as AuDHD (as I've mentioned in this post), but you'd have to get back to me later on whether I think Kagami or Felix are the same.

- The year is 2008. If you want to call someone gay, you compare them to Adrien Agresté. Is he actually? Who knows, but he looks like it and he hates it. He thought being mistaken for his mother was bad, but this is arguably worse.

- Luka Couffaine is the frontman of Vampire Revival, and painfully aware of the crush his girlfriend has on Adrien, her classmate. He finds the concept of "getting with him first" just to spite her absolutely hilarious.

They hook up in the aftermath of one of Luka's parties, and undergo an under-the-table strangers-with-benefits relationship. The internalized homophobic animosity is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

"What power do you even have over me?" Luka sneered, following Adrien around; Adrien curled up further into his black coat like a shell, forcing his hands into his pockets. "You're not stronger than me, you're not more charismatic, you don't have anyth—"

"I own you!"

Adrien had spun around, twisting the collar of Luka's shirt in his hands.

"Are you forgetting that someone got cut off of Daddy's money for doing nothing with his life?!" Adrien screamed back. "The only thing keeping your head above water right now is me, not your jackass 'band', and if I want you to not speak a word to me in public you will do that!"

Luka couldn't help but notice that he was still overshadowing Adrien quite literally. Both in height and in muscle.

Welcome to Claudrien Nation :))) I'm glad you consider it close to Class of '09, it does feel at parts like a similarly "edgy" take on MLB like how Class of '09 is a take on visual novels. Okay, so we have to go into the TWEOS lore with this one, irrefutable fact:

Adrien and Marinette were supposed to be made for each other.

This is because, like in canon, the miraculouses work better with strong bonds and like. In canon Adrinette is brought up multiple times to be the best relation to ever ship. In TWEOS, this is basically the kwamis playing matchmaker with their paper dolls. Because, in essence, that is what all holders are to them.

This is why both Marinette and Adrien display obsessive tendencies, albeit towards different people—The idea was that they'd latch onto one person (each other), and then it would stick.

Instance 1: Marinette latched onto Adrien long before she ever got her Miraculous.

The issue: She latched onto the idea of him marketed by Gabriel. No umbrella scene whatsoever. Adrien is her celebrity crush that she loves as if she's been in a years-long committed relationship.

Instance #2: Adrien latched onto... Claudia.

The issue: Not Marinette. Very much not Marinette. Despite everything any of the kwamis (or anyone else in Adrien's life) could ever do to pry him away from Claudia, Adrien will refuse to budge. He was practically designed to be a codependent partner, and it will show.

Next point—Because Adrinette is endgame, neither Marinette nor Adrien can have a fulfilling relationship before that. So Luka, Marinette's "fake" boyfriend, is an asshole who wants to have his cake of the Viperbug celebrity pairing and also be a womanizing local rockstar. Likewise, Kagami, Adrien's betrothed, never clicks with him, and her limited perspective means she's unwilling to fully relate to him without reflecting on the ways her mother has lied to her.

(There's also parallels between Kagami and Marinette in terms of their view of Adrien, even though the reverse between Luka and Adrien isn't as strong since Adrien has never really considered Marinette as a romantic interest. —unless, of course, that's the parallel in which case we found it!)

...............eh. I can't even safely say they don't make each other worse, just that they're not getting worse alone. Also, by the point that Claudia and Adrien accept that they're a thing (and Claudia starts to close off because she suddenly realizes her flirtations have consequences), the scaffolding is already crumbling and also on fire. It would take a miracle for Adrinette to be healthy at that point, and yet Plagg and Tikki are still trying to get the Adrinette train back on track.

But they will fail.

GOD that would be good. I wonder what Silent Hill would put him through. Maybe he'd have to reconcile with the truth about his mother's death? Or his trauma surrounding being objectified and reduced to a commodity to be sold? Maybe even the Ladybug abuse?

But I wanted to draw him thriving, so here he is. He'd be geeking out over how "charming" of a town Silent Hill is and how it's so different than any of the akumas he's fought before. Claudia would listen to every single one of his theories as to what kind of Miraculous or Akuma could be at the heart of these strange phenomena. All while mowing down creepy monsters for the fun of it :)

Don't know if you were asked this before, but how do you feel about Maribat?

...I haven't gotten hit by the DC bug, so I can't really say I've ever sought it out? But I mean, the crossover sounds cool and I'm all for non-lovesquare ships. I'd have to probably dig through some Maribat fics to have a proper answer on it.

I do know that a mutual of mine @foxgloveciara has a DC crossover in the works involving Adrien instead, and I will say I'm a fan of it! (I even helped design a kwami for her <3) And I'm not opposed to exploring the general idea of MLB/DC stuff in my own work, and I even thought of a cute post-TWEOS Claudrien fic involving traveling to Gotham.

...But like I said, not too familiar with Maribat itself, but I'm not opposed to it.
