Hi! For the WIP List Game: Dragon Jedi AU?? I am intrigued
Hehe, that one is inspired by @bubblew0lf1's Dragon!Jedi AU! I adore all of their dragon designs, especially Obi-Wan's, and it got me thinking about a sort of fantasy AU where the Jedi are shape-shifting dragons. I'm not sure it's something that'll ever become a finished thing, but it's been fun to think about.
Rambling and a snippet below the cut :P
This AU's setting would condense most of the notable SW planets into continents/countries/cities on one planet; there wouldn't be any space travel, though technology would probably be better than in a medieval fantasy setting. Dragons are rare and I'm thinking the knowledge of their intelligence and that they can also be people is not well-known (either a closely guarded secret or actively suppressed)--and they're also being actively hunted by the Republic/Empire under the justification that dragons are extremely dangerous (this is Palpatine's fault, and he has far more nefarious reasons for hunting them down). I haven't worked out all the worldbuilding details, but I think the Jedi are a subset of dragons who serve as guardians where they can; recently, though, they've been forced to hide due to being hunted.
In this world, Cody and Rex are wardens (possibly heading up a small group of rangers) of a large woody/mountainous area bordering a very rural town far from the center of the Republic; the land was claimed and the town founded by the Mereel-Fett family after unrest in Mandalore forced Jaster Mereel (Jango Fett's adoptive father, Cody and Rex's grandfather) and his clan to leave. Mandalorians have a complicated history with dragons, but Jaster liked to tell stories about Tarre Vizla, a Mandalorian leader long ago who either was close friends with a dragon or was a dragon himself; details passed down through the centuries seem unclear. Jango's never been that interested in the tales, but Rex and especially Cody enjoyed them growing up.
Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka moved to the town together pretty recently; I think Obi-Wan runs a bookshop (or maybe a small library? A fusion of the two?), while Anakin works as a mechanic who's teaching Ahsoka the trade as well. Cody likes to read and chats with Obi-Wan when he stops by for books, while Rex brings the rangers' equipment to Anakin and Ahsoka for professional servicing (Rex tinkers a bit himself, but Anakin's a wizard) and they become fast friends. Of course, the friendly neighborhood bookkeeper and mechanics don't tell anyone that they're also dragons, including the Fetts, but Cody and Rex find out the truth eventually.
The only thing I actually started writing for this beyond notes is a scene just after Obi-Wan (in dragon form) fights Grievous (also a dragon but not a Jedi) somewhere deep in the Fetts' protected area. Cody had been doing a sweep/patrol at the time and witnessed at least part of the fight, and he goes to investigate the aftermath.
Warning that it's more gruesome than I usually go, what with blood and a dead dragon. This is just also the most snippable portion of what little I have, I think.
There is a deafening thud, and then—
Silence.
Cody slowly approaches the edge of the ravine and looks down. A hulking white shape lies still at the base of the rocky slope, red pooling under its gash-ridden body. It’s hard to tell from a distance what precisely killed it, but the lack of motion and abundance of blood suggest that either it’s dead or will be soon. Partially obscured, a smaller brown shape lies behind the great white beast, closer to the river; it seems similarly bloodied and still. Cody feels a pang of sorrow—that one had saved his life, whether intentionally or not.
…Better make sure they’re dead, lest any survivors roam too close to town.
Cody picks his way carefully down the side of the ravine, shifting between stepping and climbing as needed. When he’s made it to the bottom, he draws his rifle and approaches the white dragon.
There is no movement between its sharply defined ribs, and up close Cody can see where the base of its throat has been torn open by—well, horns or claws, most likely. He follows the long neck up to the head, where dull yellow eyes stare sightlessly out from behind a gaping maw. Cody prods its nose lightly with the tip of his rifle. No response.
Tempting as it still is to put a bolt in its skull, he’s hunted enough himself to know what death looks like. There’s no need.
He steps around the body of the beast toward the visible back of the brown one. One of its wings lies bent at an unnatural angle behind it, and—
It’s breathing, quick and labored. Not moving otherwise, but still alive, at least for now.
(Once he works out he's not going to get mauled to death for trying to help, Cody puts his wilderness first-aid skills to use. He still doesn't learn that it's Obi-Wan for a while, though.)

Recently I've been in this "we need to find our next big multi-chap WIP" mood since I'm insanely close to finishing up writing Aster, and my brain is torn between two options
1) Doctor Steve + Patient Bucky, Modern AU, rich kid Bucky who's like, "I have an unknown illness that no one seems to understand, a father who wants me to pursue real estate, and a desire to find love in the hopeless shithole known as my own separate wing of my parents' mansion."
2) Post TWS recovery fic, Steve getting Bucky back and the two growing and rediscovering each other, possibly with Avengers missions and Bucky feels and all that
The first I already have a planning doc going (for two years now!!) with several notes and ideas, yet the second I only thought of recently. What's the deal, brain? I've been wanting to write that doctor/patient AU for so long now and I feel like I might be able to tackle it after After (there's also the uh, wedding fic, god knows how long that'll be) yet I'm suddenly in the mood for canon typical violence and Winter Soldier Bucky??? lolol
So yeah. Anyway, this is just a lil brain dump rant because I'm being tossed around with all these ideas and need somewhere to get em out. Toying with ideas is fun, and even though I've never written a TWS longfic (it's on the bucket list), I'll probably stick to reading xD
But while I'm here, I'm a bit curious, even though I stick to writing what the loudest muse tells me to

ghost x soap (cw for (legal) age gap)
He takes another look at the kid, now that he’s not planning on throwing him off the property. He’s got a bit of bulk, probably just recently started working out, and there’s a cocky energy coming off of him. Ghost would bet this is far from the first time he’s robbed someone with this little ruse, probably thinks he’s the smartest burglar in town. Too bad he chose the wrong man to try and trick this time.
Ghost straightens from the doorway, rolling back his shoulders and standing tall. The kid isn’t short by any means, but compared to Simon he’s practically little. Odds are he’s still got some growing to do, but for now Simon gets to enjoy the way he can loom over the teenager.
“No one ever taught you to respect your elders, boy?”
Oh, the kid doesn’t like that one. If he were a dog, his hackles would be fully raised, but he’s left settling for curling his lip back in a snarl. “You think just cause you’re old I have to respect you?”
“I think you’ll respect me because you’re on my property. That and I don’t think you’ll like what happens if you keep the attitude up.”
The kid flushes, either from rage or the innuendo. “Who the fuck do you think you are? You think just because we’re out here alone you can say whatever you want to me?”
“Of course not. We’re out here all alone, which means I can do whatever I want to you. And I will, if you don’t get off my property.”
The kid looks him up and down, then visibly steels himself. Ghost bites back a smirk. He’s not used to being underestimated, but he finds he doesn’t mind when it means getting to see the kid play at being his equal.
“What do you think you’ll do if I don’t go?”
Oh, Ghost can’t wait to beat the attitude out of the little brat.
He doesn’t let the kid see how much the rudeness is getting to him, intentionally keeping his face flat and unimpressed. “What’s your name, kid?”
That permanent scowl doesn’t shift, even as a flash of confusion crosses his face. “...John.”
Ghost nods. “Alright, Johnny, if you don’t get off my property, I’ll take you over my knee and teach you what your daddy should’ve.”
It’s nearly impossible to keep from grinning when Johnny’s mouth pops open in surprise, the flush creeping further up his neck. “You- you’ll- who do you think- you can’t-”
Ghost reaches out like he might slap Johnny, instead snaps right in front of his nose, sharp and loud. “Spit it out, boy. I don’t feel like listening to a kid learn how to speak all night.”
Johnny’s letting himself get worked up, and not doing a good job of hiding it. His teeth grind and he shifts from foot to foot, like he’d like to try and attack Ghost. He’s apparently smart enough to know how idiotic that would be, and Simon finds he’s almost disappointed.

16. What are your writing strengths? I do a lot of (an excess of) research, I'm good at description, I am funny when I want to be, I've had some really good prose moments if I do say so myself (I do)

I am structurally a very weak writer, I can't be succinct, I don't have a great literature background so I never really know what I'm in conversation with and have limited points of reference for writing, I am very bad at writing characters who are subtle about their emotions/romantic feelings, I submit to time pressure and rush myself, the list goes on

WIP Wednesday
Morning friends! I am officially at crunch time for so many things but god damn it, am I making headway. I have the next chapter of Someone Wicked edited, illustrated and ready to go for Thursday, and I'm actually so happy with both illustrations for it. Honestly feel like I've done some of my best artwork for this fic. I also have one Cobb illustration done in collaboration with @yeonjunenby (check out the fic!) and another in the works that'll be posting Friday and very very excited for that collaboration.
So wish me luck getting through the rest of this week. This MONTH really because I still have to write the finale of SW. But I'm going to bask in finishing the penultimate chapter a little longer before I freak out.
Honestly, it's getting hard to pick stuff that avoids major spoilers!!! But here's some Penny content. We love to see it.
“What’s this about, Simon? Is this hypothetical, or did you actually catch feelings for a client?”
“I dunno.” Yes. Very much yes.
She leans in. “Is it the bloke you sucked off this morning for breakfast?”
“Oh my God, I didn’t—there were pastries.”
“Kinky.” My face is hot, and Penny is laughing. God, I’m grateful it’s noisy here, and we’re not sitting directly next to anyone else. “How are you embarrassed by this?”
“I don’t know, it’s private. Since when are you not embarrassed? Agatha’s a bad influence on you.”
“Oh, quiet. I was never embarrassed, Simon. I was always just worried about you. I still worry all the time, and I probably always will. But okay, okay. It’s private. You just obviously like him if you’re talking about this at all. You never talk about anything.”
“I talk about things.”
“No you fucking don’t."

Hey there! I'm still not finished with ToTK despite 100+ hours in 🙈. But I have a WIP Wednesday for you all!
It's for zelink week, prompt "Yearning".
Spoilers for the tears quest/memories. Don't click if you haven't seen them.
If you answer/reblog this post, keep in mind that I haven't finished the game! So please, please, please don't spoil the ending for me.
Prompt 'Yearning' — 'It's Lonely at the Top'
"Kogah's cooking something up," Link mutters, voice carried away by icy winds that make his cheeks numb. "Lad got mad when his researchers showed me the autobuild function." He sighs, ice crystals slowly building on his skin where he's breathing out. "I made it to the old Gerudo mine but then he escaped to Lanayru. Couldn't follow him underground."
His only answer is the wind and the light tingling of the Master Sword's magic in the air.
Link swallows against the tears that'll freeze in the corner of his eyes if he lets them escape.
He won't. They'll change anything.
"You know, fighting him isn't that hard. I made a nice discovery, you'd go feral over it if—" Pressing his eyes close, he breaks off. "Anyway, I can attach Keese eyes to arrows and it makes them find their target on their own." A strangled laugh gets half-stuck in his throat. "Would help you with the little drift to the left you're fighting against when we're hunting."
His words get lost in the wind tearing at his clothes. Nothing but silence.
Link's hands scramble over the scales under him — rough, calloused palms on smooth horn — but they find no purpose. There's nothing to dig his hands in and nothing to touch but lifeless scales. She used to squeal and dive away from him in laughter when he indulged in the bad habit of squishing her everywhere where she's soft. The sound of her laugh that he still hasn't forgotten somehow (him, the amnesiac!) rings hollow in his ears like the third or fourth wave of an echo.
He will never hear it again.

The one where Kon isn’t the father for WIP Wednesday!!
"I'll give you two some privacy," Clark says kindly, which presumably means he'll be on the opposite side of the planet with his fingers stuffed in his ears, but who knows. Tim keeps calm and steady and hopes the acceleration in his heartbeat sounds like anticipation or nerves and not sheer terror.
This is Kon, he tells himself. Clark wouldn't have brought him here if he weren't. Not if he weren't sure.
And if this isn't Kon . . .
If this isn't Kon, there's the contingency plans.
But even if this is Kon, that doesn't mean there's nothing to be afraid of.
“Thanks, Clark,” Kon says, then glances at Tim. “Um . . .”
“This way,” Tim says as he finally manages to finish taking off his shoes and sets them by the door, like there's any possible way Kon would need the direction. Even if Kon didn't have incredible alien super-senses, it's not that big a house and there's extremely limited options for where they'd be going right now.
Tim heads up the stairs. Kon follows. Tim hears the front door close as Clark leaves and then a high-speed rush of air outside. He thinks of the contingency plans, again. Calculates and categorizes them. If this isn't Kon, he has to take the nuclear option. If this isn't Kon, he can't hesitate. Not for anything.
If this isn't Kon, he has to kill him.
She'd never be safe otherwise.
The Kents repurposed the attic for Tim to sleep in, which was nice of them. Much nicer than they needed to be. And they repurposed Kon's old room–Clark's old room–for her. They're going to be upset, when Kon tells them the truth. Probably not angry, because neither of them is easy to genuinely anger without either a direct threat to someone's life or basic sapient rights being involved, but . . .
They're going to be upset, he's sure. And they'll feel taken advantage of. And–and that'll be true. That they've been taken advantage of.
Tim would've done worse, for her. Will do worse soon enough, he's sure. He's already lied to everyone he knows about her; about Kon. Lied about his dead best friend because . . . because . . .
Because it was easier for him, except in all the ways it was harder.
But mostly because it was safer for her.
