Summary: A bombing at a KID heist leads Shinichi to question the possibility of trust between a detective and a thief.

Shinichi was having a crisis.

Crisis wasn't the sort of term he threw around lightly. Thanks to the general madness of his life and the regularity with which he risked getting himself killed in various violent and messy ways, Shinichi had long since learned that most things weren't worthy of being considered crises.

Which was not to say that there weren't several things about his current situation that most people would have felt constituted a crisis or two. Like the fact that a bomb had exploded in the middle of a KID heist, throwing everything into confusion and leaving him stuck on the wrong side of a wall of tumbled masonry blocking the only way out of this room. Or maybe the fact that the police wouldn't enter the building until they'd confirmed there weren't any more unexploded bombs lying around, so he had no idea how long it would take them to find him. Or the fact that the power had been knocked out in the chaos, so now he was trapped in the dark.

They were all, he was sure, very valid reasons for panicking.

But bombs were practically a biweekly occurrence in Shinichi's life these days, and the intact air vents in the ceiling would make sure he didn't suffocate before the rescue crew arrived, and it wasn't like he was scared of the dark. After getting turned into a child by a shady underground organization, there wasn't much else life could throw at him that was worthy of being considered a crisis.

But this? This was a crisis.

Because the Kaitou KID was sleeping on him.

so last weekend i've just posted my first ever fanfic on AO3 as a submission to the WIP Challenge 2023 (hosted by the lovely @dcmkkaishinevents)!
