going back to origins always makes me a little disappointed with the darkspawn in the later games because they're so legitimately frightening in origins
#elly.txt#i know the archdemon is a big part of that and so it makes sense that theyre dumber in da2 or inquisition#but theyre so scary in origins because theyre smart#its the military tactics its the use of complex tools its the blatant attacks on enemy moral#which is super driven home in the return to ostagar dlc with the whole stripping and crucifying Cailan thing#but even in bae games in the korcari wilds we see a bunch of people who've been hanged by them#and alistair literally says something like 'that just seems so unnecessary' and it IS and they do it anyway to psych the humans out!#obviously the broodmother reveal is primarily horryifing because SA and cannibalism are fucking horrifying#but idk imo theres some added fridge horror of understanding they act like that because theyre like us
