i’ve only played the vgperson version of the original, and not the remake, but there’s an interesting thing going on with paintings in Ib and speech.

there’s a lot (like the lady in red and the coughing man) that make human-sounding noises, and there’s a few (the one that eats flowers comes to mind) that you can assume are talking out loud to you since you don’t have to read something written on the wall. but there’s only one case that I can think of where it’s specified that ‘a voice comes from the painting’: the juggler, also the only painting we see to be based on a real person.

did I say that only one painting talks? sorry, i meant two. mary can speak just fine.

there’s some interesting implications there. Was she also based on a real person? in my opinion, probably not, since the collected works of guertena says she wasn’t. those books are found in the gallery, so it’s likely that either they aren’t real books or guertena wrote them himself. (in the secret dungeon there’s a book specifically on his paintings featuring eyes. what actual publisher organizes things like that?) but there’s still a chance that weiss just didn’t want to think about the ‘real mary’, or was denying that she existed. another interpretation is that speech is an indicator of realness or completeness in general, which if you ask me is really atmospheric and adds to that lonely feeling that the fabricated world has.

anyway, as with all theories, I might be making mountains out of anthills. but i’d like to think this was on purpose, because it’s some really great attention to detail.

Absolutely LOVE the idea of an ib role swap au where ib is swapped with garry and mary is swapped with guertena, SPECIFICALLY the latter because I love the idea of painter mary being like a child prodigy who died very young and her painting of weiss being her trying to invent a father figure for herself because her father was either dead or very distant due to the disease which made her wither away and eventually die

Like OBVIOUSLY mary couldn't have made as many paintings as weiss did because she was so young but maybe most of the artwork on display could have been recreations of sketches of blueprints she made for statues

#random thoughts #ib rpg #okay so ib came to the exhibit with her two children who both ran off so she's looking for them #and then she comes across the painting and gets transported to the painting world #with garry who came to the museum by himself even though he's like nine #and she's like 'did you come here with your parents' and he's like 'pshhah OBVIOUSLY my parents LOVE ME i am NOT CRYING'#so ib's having to go through the painting world with this sobbing nine year old who's trying to put on a brave face and protect ib #because this is the first adult he's met in like nine years who's treated him with kindness #and then they come across weiss who's like this older greying gentleman #and he's like this CARTOONISHLY good father right. a nine year old's image of what a good father is #and garry's like YESSSS TWO PARENTS FOR THE PRICE OF ONE and ib's like hold on a fucking second #so yeah weiss eventually tries to betray them so he can get a rose and go into the real world #all the endings are still focused on ib so when garry gets through the painting her children come to tempt her away instead of her mom #and she's fucking WRECKED after garry's death so she stays in the painting world out of grief and guilt #and if weiss ends up stealing garry's rose and gets to the other side with ib he becomes either her brother and the kids' uncle #OR he becomes her husband I'm undecided #(also speaking of the children im torn between both the mom AND the dad becoming ib's children OR the mom becomes a daughter)#(and the dad is the mom's friend from school)

Without a doubt “IB” is one of my favorite games even today, both the story and the art style are beautiful <3</p>

Sin duda “IB” es uno de mis juegos favoritos incluso a día de hoy, tanto la historia como el estilo de arte es precioso <3</p>

Por lo que no podía desperdiciar esta oportunidad! Y ya que quería hacer algo distinto, en vez de hacer a los protagonistas me apeteció dibujar al muñeco XD

scrolled back through my garry tag and one thought head full

I might go into this more tomorrow but while everyone and their mother has figured out/has been pointed out that the gallery seems to target garry specifically, I've seen various theories trying to explain why. and well, I think it's because he's a substance user. the gallery either hates him because of how similar he is to guertena(who was implied to be an alcoholic) or because he's getting over his addiction(he has a lemon candy in his pocket, which is sometimes eaten by people waning off a nicotine addiction) while guertena never did(and I even have a theory that his alcoholism is what killed him but again that's a post for another day). theories that say things like he's guertena's grandson or that he is guertena are great, but I think it would be more interesting if the gallery was targeting him because of his more personal similarities to the late artist.

—Mi dulce niña, me pregunto cómo lucirás ahora. Aún ahora sigo pensando en ti.

“¿Mmh..?”

Entreabrió sus ojos, pero sintiendo demasiado peso en los parpados volvió a cerrarlos. ¿Escuchó esas palabras en sueños? Sólo se acostó un momento en la cama y…

Ugh, ahora se sentía desorientada y con más sueño que antes. Colocó el dorso de una mano sobre su frente.

Las palabras resonaban en su cabeza con más intensidad… esa voz…

“¡!”

La sorpresa fue suficiente para que se desvaneciese toda la pereza. En más ocasiones de las que pudiera contar había tenido sueños reminiscentes a Mary, no placenteros precisamente, que con el paso de los años fueron menos y menos frecuentes, pero era la primera vez en años que… ¿Soñaba con Guertena? Se incorporó y talló los ojos mirando al techo por un momento.

–Eso es una extraña pregunta así de repente, señor… –Dijo bromeando, como si le pudiese oír.

Era demasiado directo para ser sólo un sueño, sabía que el artista tenía… sus peculiares medios para comunicarse. Aunque tal vez todo fuese fruto de su imaginativo subconsciente, le dio suficiente curiosidad para decidir hacerle una visita… de cualquier forma iba bastante avanzada en las materias de la escuela, podía permitirse un descanso de vez en cuando. Se cambió a un vestido de una pieza de color blanco con manga larga, elegantes bordados rosados en conjunto con sus medias y un broche encima de un liston carmesí decorando la parte del cuello.

… Justo al tocar el pomo de la puerta de su habitación, recordó que por ciertos “acontecimientos” actuales, no podría salir de casa, sus padres eran demasiado estrictos y paranoicos al respecto.

--No sé si se pueda en esta ocasión... --Suspiró y apretó el pomo con coraje. En verdad, en verdad deseaba salir... y así abrió la puerta de todos modos.

Entonces sintió un misterioso cambio en la atmosfera…
