Seven Interesting Reasons Why Every Mom Should Have a Blog

These days when opening your laptop is like going outdoors and meeting tons of people, you don’t really need to be away from home to reach out to the world. Communicating with your friends and family and with people whom you share the same interests with can be done within the confines of your home. That in itself is a lot of fun!

Gone are the days when women with children seem to be locked inside the toxic world of motherhood, without anything else to do but to take care of their children. Now, you can do so much more, learn so many things, and connect to the world even when you’re a stay-at-home mom. But a lot of moms like me have discovered that there’s a way to use that global access for something more productive. That’s by having your own mom blog!

You may be hearing this ‘mom blogging’ for the first time. In that case, you might want to read our earlier post about how to start a mom blog. And if you decide to push through with this journey, you’ll be one of the thousands to millions of moms out there who took this path and hopefully, you’ll love it too.

As for me, these are the reasons why I find mom blogging very helpful for all the mommies out there.

It’s fun.

When all you do for the rest of the day is to change nappies, cook meals for your kids, play with them until they get tired, and take a peek on social media when they’re too tired to play, you’ll surely find mom blogging sooo fun!

Imagine sharing your ideas to the whole world for free and exchanging thoughts with those who have the same experience as yours. You can share the ups and downs of being a mother. You can tell your fellow moms about the hacks on how to make a mom’s life easier.  Above all, you can be yourself and share your passion to tons of people without having to leave the house. Isn’t that fun?

You can earn from it!

In case you don’t know it yet, a lot of mom bloggers out there are earning millions of dollars by sharing their true selves to the world through their blog sites. If other blogs can be monetized, you can moneytize your mom blog too! Not that we’re saying you should do mom blogging for this sole reason, but if you can earn while having fun, why not?

You can destress through it.

Moms understand that our journey involves a lot of inner battles. Our daily environment may be filled with children’s laughter and silliness, but there are private moments when you just want to give up. It’s during these stressful times that mom blogging can help you.

Instead of keeping everything inside, you can share your thoughts and feelings through your mom blog. It could be a personal journal of your struggles and victories as a mom. This will help you de-stress. Plus, you might get some insights and tips from moms like you on how to handle what you’re going through.

You will learn from it.

As you do mom blogging, you will realize that this journey requires learning new things. In fact, writing posts in your blog will lead you to the routine of researching. If you’re not the type of mom who reads a lot, don’t panic! Doing online research for your blog is not as boring as it sounds.

If you’re writing about what you love, like pop culture or the Marvel Universe for example, then reading about it will never bore you. It won’t feel like working at all. What’s great about blogging is that your knowledge base will only grow as you write more.

Speaking of more, another good thing about mom blogging is that you will discover more about yourself. As you brainstorm content for your mom blog, you will find out more about your interests - what topics are dearest to you, what things you want to learn more about, and which ones you write the best about. You’ll discover new passions and pursuits. Your journey to self-discovery will grow deeper as your horizons expand in the world of blogging.

It will help you become a better mom.

When you know yourself so well and you continue to discover new things while mom blogging, you’ll also have more things to share with your children. When you have a passion that keeps you going every day, you’ll be happier and more content. You will have an outlet when you’re too stressed and you’ll have a sense of purpose. As you become a better person, your children will be the biggest beneficiary.

You should contribute to the mom community.

Since I’ve been mom blogging for years, I see it now as a responsibility to the mom community. We know that being a mother is not easy and if you have the chance to make it less burdensome for another mom, wouldn’t you do it? I would. What can stop us when we have free access to the internet and there are websites that offer blog domains for free?

What Advertisers Expect, and Publishers Should Deliver: A Five-Step Checklist for Small and Mid-Sized Publishers

Augustin Ory, CEO, The Moneytizer, shares five basic tips for small and medium-sized to best navigate the quickly changing advertising landscape in the new year.

The world of programmatic advertising has advanced at such a rapid pace that it is sometimes practically impossible to figure out what the key pieces are to deploying a successful strategy—as a publisher or advertiser. The pace at which all of the actors evolve and change requires constant adaptation. There are no magic formulas to determine what factors lead to the optimal outcome. But if publishers think like advertisers, they can better understand what their needs are and act accordingly. This is especially true for smaller publishers who are less familiar with the basics of programmatic advertising.

Advertisers are especially valuable to smaller publishers for whom advertising can be a welcome path to monetizing their content. However, in order to attract interest from advertisers, publishers need to adhere to series of criteria to generate real interest in buying their inventory. Brands will not be attracted to a site just for quantitative reasons. Numbers are objective, yes, but advertisers will quickly take into account other more subjective criteria as well.

Toward that end, we‘ve identified five things that every advertiser expects from publishers and publishers should in turn expect to deliver to advertisers.

1. Appropriate content

Everything begins here. A site with content that is carefully managed and clean will always be a space where advertising partners will feel comfortable running their campaigns. Designing and developing compeling, safe content  can be laborious and does not always pay back right away. Sometimes it can take a while for advertisers to find your content. But interesting, engaging content with careful curation—what advertisers are looking for--will end up shining in the long run.

2. Visibility

This key element that attracts the attention of advertisers is based on common sense. In general, the more visible the formats on your site, the more effective they will be for advertisers and, consequently, for the publisher. An ad placed in a highly visible location will be seen by more people, attract more engagement and impressions and result in optimal remuneration.

Sometimes of course it is difficult to balance the visibility of ad formats with the structure of the site. It is necessary to think carefully about user experience and to try to minimize intrusion while maximizing impact and visibility.

3. Quality

 It’s not always about quantity and number of impressions. Often, quality can trump quantity and advertisers look past audience counts to determine not just how many but how focused and relevant a particular audience on a particular website may be. If, in the absence of high traffic, the content attracts a high-quality audience (ie a highly targeted one) with high-quality visits, many advertisers may still be attracted to it. This is exemplified in the case of sites that target niche audiences: audience size may be modest but they have high value for campaigns aimed at precisely those niche audience.

4. Ads.txt

Having an ads.txt file installed on a site has quickly become a requisite for advertisers. In fact, more and more advertisers are saying no to buying space on websites that have not installed this file. What began as a recommendation of the IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau, the association that represents the digital advertising sector), has already become the official standard in the fight against fraud in programmatic advertising. This file contains a list of the set of advertising actors authorized to broadcast campaigns on a website. By integrating it into the root of a site, it prevents the identity of the site from being usurped and any domain spoofing from occuring. The advertiser knows then that it is a reliable site and that it will not waste budget on a fraudulent site. For the publisher, installing ads.txt helps to maintain a higher price point since all fraudulent traffic is removed..

5. Monitoring Fraud

It seems obvious, but unfortunately, robots that imitate human web traffic and inventory that is generated on fake websites are common problems today. It is clear that advertising fraud is one of the most important problems in the industry and both advertisers and publishers have begun to try to address the situation in a variety of ways. Regrettably, these bad practices are not only prevalent with premium sites, but also affect the small and medium-sized publishers. Closely monitoring the sources of site traffic along with inventory availability and fostering honest traffic based on the organic appeal of the content will be ever more critical to attracting advertisers and maintaining their trust.

How Marketing Automation Can Change the Playing Field for Small and Mid-Sized Publishers

Programmatic platforms provide a viable business model for publishers seeking new monetization avenues, writes Augustin Ory, CEO, The Moneytizer

The buying and selling of ad inventory programmatically has introduced a new way for publishers of all sizes to monetize their sites and blogs. More than anything, this programmatic ad “revolution” has helped to democratize the marketplace and open the door to new monetization possibilities, making it easier for all publishers to provide access to their inventory to any kind of advertiser. Prior to the advent of this technology, publishers were limited primarily to direct campaigns or affiliate deals, a largely unscalable proposition for publishers and one which limited access to well-known advertisers. For mid and long tail publisher, for whom publishing their sites may not even be their “day job”, this has been particularly problematic. Advertising is often not the primary focus of their efforts and they may not always be able to commit the required time to develop advertising on their sites. Historically, most of these publishers were dependent on Google’s Adsense to at least slightly enhance their monetization prospects, through a broader variety of campaigns and advertisers. However, would something go wrong with Adsense, and Google decides to “banish” a website, smaller size publishers were left with little to no access to any ad providers.

However, the advent of the programmatic automation of ad sales buying and selling has been a potential game-changer for publishers of all sizes. Though still a relatively nascent technology, in 2017, programmatic display spending nearly eclipsed $33 billion –offering enough $$ for anyone who is equipped to get a piece of this cake. The problem is, not all publishers have the connections or the knowledge required to find a programmatic provider that offers access to this technology. Most publishers still have to be educated about what programmatic is and the way it works. On top of that, most of them have a passion for writing and for the editorial--and not for the way it works behind the scenes.

How Can Publishers of All Sizes Leverage the Benefits of Automated Programmatic Ad Sales?

When you’re the owner of a small website, it is hard to access the giants of the industry—with the exception noted above of AdSense--and benefit from the same automated ads and services that premium websites do. If you want to expand your options to monetize your website the market can be confusing. Challenges include:

Navigating various ad formats and associated requirements,

In the end, it can be hard to make sense of all of the options, let alone find a platform or provider that will best fit your needs.

Engaging with DSP’s and SSPs (demand side and supply side platforms)—the key players in today’s ad landscape--is something small and mid-size publishers don’t know how to do. And often they are even unaware of the role they play in the online advertising industry. Who could blame them? The numerous actors in the evolving ad marketplace can be daunting and very confusing--and if a website is considered “too small” it can be deemed insignificant and cast to the side.

Alternatively, an emerging option for these smaller players is to access the new automated technologies through a third party ad provider that beings with them the required connections needed to fully monetize a publisher’s inventory. E-Marketer forecasts that an astonishing 84% of the digital display ad spending in 2019 will be done programmatically. This should be a benefit to all the parties: the advertisers who can find their most engaged audience in more and more places; the publishers—of all sizes—who can avail their inventory to more targeted ads; and the users, who can be reached with more relevant messaging; all of whom realize the growing commercial value of trading through programmatic as it is improved and enhanced on a daily basis.
