Late teens this circle was pretty empty, I had surrounded my self with people who would use me but could never return the favour, in a way I myself was pretty empty. This week (like every week) has been a roller coaster. Nights of both kids waking me. Nights of toddler sleeping through. Nights of unsettled baby. Days of toddler tantrums. Days of toddler 5am wake ups. Days of very helpful toddler. Days of grumpy teething baby. Days of baby being a delight. Days I’ve eaten well and exercised. Days I’ve eaten brownie and fish & chips. Days of being out of the house by 9am. Days I’ve not showered until 3pm. You get the picture! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But every day there have been sweet moments like this that make it all worth while. He can make her laugh like no one else. Her face lights up whenever she sees him. She has made him a proud big brother. He constantly asks “Pooper hold Harpie?” and “Harpie wake now Mummy” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And every day there have been other Mamas here on instagram posting their struggles or sharing their wins or sending me messages and comments of encouragement. For some people social media is bad for their self esteem but this community helps me feel normal and makes me know I’m not alone. My friend and I had coffee today while our baby’s sat in their prams and our 2 year olds had a fantastic time in the playground. We call these catch ups #thursdaytherapy and we look forward to them all week. Today’s ended abruptly. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Her son pushed another kid. The kid cried. She straight away knelt down and talked to him and made him apologise to the kid. However that was not good enough for the kids Dad. He announced very loudly to the room more than once different variations of theme along the lines of “its ok sweetie that boy is just a big bully”. My friend was understandably distraught and mortified and straight began packing up to leave as tears rolled down her face. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s what happened next that I absolutely love! Three different Mums that were total strangers came over to pat my friend on the back, tell her it’s not her fault, she’s doing a great job, the guy is overreacting etc. Amazing! Mums having other mums backs 🙌🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I could go on about what a douche the man was and how what he did, publicly humiliating my friend, was actually a form of bullying itself but I won’t because I don’t know his story and maybe there’s a reason he reacted like he did. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Instead I want celebrate and thank those women in Riccarton McDonalds today. They knew it was out of her control. They knew toddlers will be toddlers.
