#so my brother found a box full of documents#from when some semi-distant relative was researching family geneaology#and all my time reading old letters on the loc website came in handy#because it meant i could decipher the handwritten document#of my great-great-grandfather's life story#and read it for everyone as we hung out before family sunday dinner#and the pressure is now on for all the unmarried family members#we've got a legacy to live up to with courtship stories#it seems my great-great-grandfather came to america after a failed engagement#a few years later he met a girl and her parents outside of church#the father hired him to work on his farm#three days later the girl rode with him in a wagon somewhere on some farm business#and she was like 'i've been thinking about you day and night since i first saw you and this is our first chance to speak alone'#and she was like 'we should get married' and he agreed and they shook hands#though they did wait until the next sunday to formalize the engagement#they waited three months to ask for her father's blessing#which they got#they got married two months later#and were married for 35 years#until the morning of the day they were scheduled to take their first out-of-state trip#(he was excited to give her a chance to travel after a life of knowing only home and work)#and he woke up to find her dead beside him#he was writing this not long after and you can tell he was heartbroken#so the marriage was clearly successful#so anyway my one brother was like 'now i feel unsuccessful. i've never found a woman who wanted to marry me after three days'#and my married brother told all us unmarried ones that he expects us to be engaged by next week#clearly it can be done#and anyway it's so interesting to know the details#after only vaguely knowing this guy's name

#song of the day#I'm at my grandfather's house now!#he's more than half deaf (partial hearing in only one ear) and the only thing more substantial than his record collection#is his sound system#CCR loud enough to feel in your bones. take a shower while the music plays and feel the water droplets vibrate as they fall. it's amazing#I missed the fuck out of this old man. had no idea the extent of it. I missed him so bad#old man with his La-Z-Boy perfectly molded to his body and his turntable collection and his novelty soda cozies and his model planes#it stormed like hell all day and none of us could hear each other speak over the wind and thunder and dogs howling and blessed CCR#so we've just been hanging out. played monopoly except again we couldn't hear so it was like monopoly + charades#sensory input through the /roof/ I forgot what it was like here. bliss for my brain#tomorrow if the weather stays calmed down I'm going to ask him what 'who'll stop the rain' is about#get those soothing background 'fuck vietnam' sounds going while I do my reports for work. missed this shouty old man like hell

What they don't tell you about losing a parent is that there is so so so so much to do
#speculation nation#my elder sister is gonna be executive of estate (once we get that sorted out bc we couldnt find his WILL)#so i thankfully wont have to deal with as much of the legal stuff#but im still gonna try to help out as much as possible#went through his papers yesterday and set up some preliminary stuff#gonna meet at the funeral home monday to arrange that. tuesday we're going to do some legal stuff for the will establishment#gonna have to take inventory of EVERY. SINGLE. THING. in his house. for tax purposes.#im gonna be inheriting a good amount of things probably. both a blessing and a curse#in that i didnt wanna fucking lose my father for it#but this is the hand we've been dealt and we're dealing with it.#i got excused from my last week of work Thank God so im hanging around longer than originally planned#gonna get my cats today. i fed them enough to last to today but that was when i thought id only be down for 2 days#no work to deal with now. i'll figure it out.#part of me's sad that it really ended just like that. didnt get to properly say goodbye to the store#but at the same time. my dad's death is so much more important. so i'll deal.#it was already gonna be a transitory time. but now it is INTENSELY so.#anyways thats why i havent been around much. i have quite a lot to do.

In the two hours I've been awake I've cried about Pokémon four times already.
#pokemon#pokeani#pokemon journeys#ash ketchum#he WON#pokeani spoilers#and i can tell you exactly WHEN I broke#first when i saw team rocket supporting his win#i mean theyve been ashs day ones other than pikachu#and this also justifies to Giovanni WHY they spent so much time trying to get that pikachu#then when i saw all his friends watching and celebrating#i knew it'd happen but i love all of ash's travelling companions even cilan#and the fact we've been getting them again throughout journeys was a blessing#even MAY and MAX!!!#then the scene where pikachu faints and sees all of the Pokémon he fought alongside over the years#i mean we got squirtle butterfree pidgeot LARVITAR and ambipom on our screens after so many years#like all of them cheering pikachu on reminded me this was as much pikachu's dream as ash's and their earnest ambition and want made me cry#all happy tears#finally i cried again thinking and talking about the pikachu scene#facts that scene is going in the VAULT of cartoon scenes that make me cry if i think about them too long#next to regular show when we find out pops was watching them all from heaven#adventure time finn and jake choosing to reincarnate together#ed edd n eddy when the boys are finally accepted by the other peachcreek kids#just to name a few

#do you ever get consumed by a big ass wave of depression to the point that you can't breathe or talk to anyone anymore#im just here thinking like. wow there's so much to choose from to be sad about#my academic situation. family situations. the horrifying things on the news.#no matter how hard i try to distract myself for a bit i can't shake off this awful feeling#im just so terrified and i feel like throwing up every five seconds of the day#please let this be just bcuz of my period or sth and not a long lasting thing#this bad feeling is akin to the one i felt every night back home laying next to my mom on the bed because dad was off to somewhere working#it felt so lonely in that house. both my brothers gone for good without us knowing if we're ever gonna see them again. dad not around#mom sick and in pain. me realizing she might leave me some day too. it hurt so much#i know i need to be grateful for what we've been blessed with and all.#but sometimes remembering the blessings just makes me feel even more in debt to everything and everyone.
