Just a little Further 6
Part 1 2 3 4 5
"We're what?" Captain Q'ari spins around and stares at me.
"We're being pinged. We are receiving a signal from something a little further outside of the debris field." I have no idea what it is either. I'm just reporting the things that are happening. I think the Captain is being a little hard on me. I mean yes, I did twice now activate an unknown doodad by touching it when maaaaaybe I shouldn't have been, but it's been a rough couple of days!
FarReach to my rescue. "The signal appears to originate at... the remains of a Starbase."
"Show us please FarReach." Captain Q'ari looks to the large screen on the wall, while we look down to our consoles to see a smaller screen with the same information - that way we can see but also look at our consoles in case we need to take care of something.
What FarReach shows us... it took our breath away.
Sure enough, there seemed to be... most of a Starbase. Large parts of it were either gone, or the original designers had one hell of an aesthetic. It looks like it was originally an asteroid where whoever had it built it out until it was roughly teardrop shaped, with maybe a docking ring along the bottom point? But now, a large chunk was missing from the top of the teardrop, as if it was a piece of fruit and someone took a huge bite from it.
It was mostly dark, but there did seem to be some lighted points on it. It might not be entirely dead.
What was worse though was the planet it orbited. Note, I use orbit in a very loose sense. Planet in an even looser sense.
The planet was destroyed.
I don't mean like, it was once a green and verdant place and now has been rendered black and denuded.
It was cracked in half.
There was a hemisphere of a planet that was maybe a bit smaller than Earth, and then a cloud of debris around it - probably the other half of the planet. A ring was starting to form around the debris below the orbit of the semi derelict Starbase.
"FarReach... Can we estimate how long ago this happened?" Captain Q'ari asks quietly.
"Given what we know about orbital mechanics, and the fact that the debris field is rather large and has not condensed back into a planetary body, I'd say this is recent. Well, recent on a galactic scale."
"Best estimate please FarReach, I don't need day and date."
"Between 100 and 500 human years ago."
Omar whistles low. "That's not that long at all."
"It's been destroyed for around as long as we've known each other." Um'reli adds.
Captain Q'ari blinks and with a slight struggle, looks away. "Lieutenant Mullen. Do you have any idea what the signal says?"
I look at it. It's repeated a few times now so it's probably automated. I put on headphones and listen.
Ṡ̴̡̼̻̱̮̳͂̾͛͑̕͠͠ţ̴̨̤͙̦̰̐͛͋́͆̋̕a̸͖͎͓̽̒͑͊̑y̶̢͍̺͚̘̑̇̈́̽͘̚͝͠ ̶̥̪̥͉̙̗̈̋̂̇̈͒̑͜a̴͎̞̪͌̋ͅw̷̺̱̖̲͚̪̗̼̃̇̇̏͒͌̓̾̂͝ą̵̢̥̙̩͛͐̏̈́͗̈̀ͅͅÿ̷̠̘̺̘́͂͑̈̎́͋̿̚̚ ̴̥͐̂̋̎͜Š̸̥̪̫̬̗̱̝̟̀̑͒t̵̥̥̜̗̒̈́̈́͑̽̍͒̿̑ͅạ̵̥̰͔̗͕̙̩̟͑̋̓̀̆̋͂̌͜y̸͈̥̫͙͋̐͘ ̷̝͉͕̭̘̋̆́a̵͈̹͖͍̗̓͆̆̈͐̃̽͆͠w̵͍͙̬̺̌̎͒a̷͚̬̼̣͂̈̒̇̔y̸͚͉̥̥̺͉̘͛ ̸̢̡̛̦̫̰̖̼̩̭͔͂̏͆S̷̘̻̱̟͉̪̓̉̆͆̎̎T̸̻̠͌͂̿͌̅̈̌͝Ą̸̬͔̻̘͉͝Y̸̼̩͉̯̞̫̻̗̅̏̒͛̾̃ͅ ̴̩͐̾̾̊͠Ą̷͉͔͈̬̯͇͕̙͒͗̓̈Ŵ̵̡̢̗͖̺̫̗̰̩̒̔̇̋̃͋̔̄͝ͅA̴̭͈̭͛Ỳ̸̤͖̫̤̾
Startled, I rip my headphones off. "It's a warning!" I shout without meaning to. "We have to stay away."
As soon as I say that, there's a thud and a clank and we all move in our seats gently. "Captain!" FarReach sounds worried. "We're being pulled towards the starbase."
"What? How?"
"Unknown. Some kind of large field has enveloped us and we're being moved towards the Starbase."
Now Captain Q'ari is very worried. "Helm! Thrusters. We're leaving. Mullen, what's our next address?
I looked at the list. I had Fer'resi print out the list on a piece of paper. It felt... easier to read them when it was something physical. I stared at the names and let my eyes wander and tried to think of something... I don't know... positive? There! That one.
"The next one we should go to is R̵̫̬͓̼̜̹͈͙͐́́̅͑͂̌̄͋͒̽͊̂e̶̢̛̼͖̲̳̬̩̙̻̖̜͓̣̯̞̥̮̿̏̀͋͊̊͑̈́͗͗̀̈́͌̑̽͝ą̴̰̘̳̦̺̟̫̳͕̞͍͊̈́̽̇̂̑͆̄́̂̀͋͐̏̊͗͘c̶͔̲̬̹̀̈́͐͛̊̍̓͛̆̂̋̈̍͋͝͝h̷̡̬͈͎͚̤̳̙͓̻̞̫̮̱̐̐̇ ̷̢̬̼͙͚̫̼͓͕̜͍̭̲̬̜͙͖̔̑o̶̻͕̯̺̱̺̥̞̜͎͕͊f̴̱̦̪̠̖̮͇̖̻̲̝̩͈̭̭̥̭̈́̀ ̵͎̹̘̊́̎̋̒̉̌͑̂ť̸̥͈̪̜̱͚̓̚̕ḩ̵̨̛̩̠͕͙͉̣͈̘͓̺̜̲̺̮̈́̊́͗̓̅̇̐̒̾̽͌͜e̸̢̩̻̰͒͜͜͝͝ ̶̢͓̤̼̼̥̜͉̝͈̜͌̈̃͆͑̚͘͝M̷̡̧͍͖̙̟̳̍́̈̂̒̔̿̓͜͠ͅi̷̛͈͕͎͖̬̗̎͊̍̌͊̓͐g̵̻̣͆̄͛̂̐̋̑͒͑̌̇̿̓́h̸̡̧̘̞̪̬͔̗̼̝͈̭̘̗͙̤́͌̑̇͆̒́̍ţ̷̱̠̙̭̖̤̜̞̞̈́̒́͘ͅ ̴̨̮̖̺́͆̐̉͑̃̏͂́͒͝o̶̢̫̥̖̫̭̼̐̊̎̏̋́̕͠ͅf̵̢͈͋́̐̊́̊̎̅̊͌ ̴̡̯̒̊͐̇̚V̵̢̧̧̪̻̯̻̞͈̪̂͆̇̾̀͝z̸̛͉̒̋͒͒̊́̐̚͝z̶̢͓̘̟̯̪͓̬̰̉̾̈́̈́̾̊͂̂̽̽̓͆̏̚ͅx̸̨̪̫͖̅̉̉̔̒̋̾̀̊̈́͐̊͘͝. It's the second one on the list.
"With all speed, Lieutenant. Program the destination.
"Aye Captain." It was easy enough to enter the address into the addressing module. It was almost like they fit like puzzle pieces.
"Address added. We can leave when we turn around and ping the gate."
"Helm, turn us around. We're leaving."
Kieran looks stressed. "It's proving difficult Captain. We're not moving and the gyros are screaming."
Captain Q'ari's ears expressed frustration. She touched a panel on her chair. "Weapons! Can you target the source of the traction field?"
"One Moment Captain."
A pause.
"Captain, I have two possible targets. Both are on the damaged Starbase. One near the point one up around the bulb."
"Target them both then, We have energy to spare now."
When she said that, I felt a searing pain in my head. I shouted
Ņ̷̢̧̪͚̖̺̜͈̣͙̝͎̓͆͗̿̈́͜o̸̢̨͓̤̪̮̝̟͈͇̜̖̗̥̺̊͋̃̓̎͒̒̄́͜ͅ!̵͉̺̊̾͊̇̀͂͒͘̕ ̸̲̼̄͌̇͝Ň̶̰̼o̴̖͓͍͈̠̲͑̑͝͝t̵̛͔͈̻͇͕͈̮̺̙͂́̈́̓̇͛̅̎̊͒̋͐̚͘͜ ̴̨̢̛̳̺̟͚͔̳̘͓̱̳̀́̑̓̅̓͒̇̀ͅͅt̵̛͚̭̼̯͇͉̋̀́̈́͂́̓͗̀̐͂̋͂̈́́̂ḩ̸̢̭̦̖͍̙̲̹͖̰͍́̎̍̊͐̍͝ẽ̵̡̡̺̦̱͕̻͖͉̫̤̩͆̍̏͜͜ͅ ̴̛͖̺̬̟͕̺̗̫͍̪̰̯̜̠̜͒̋̽͗͐͛̄̐̚͘̚͜t̴̢̛̩̯̰̜̟͉̃́̎̈́̊̐̀̀̾͋ǫ̶͖̲̲̻̱͍͖̥̦̗̬̝̼̤͑̽̎́̓̓̑̇̈́̈̏̓̍͘̕͝p̵̢͖̖̭̩̗̠̙͒̌̎̀͝ ̷̛̰̝̘̘̋̒̊͊̓̓͝o̴̡̦̦̙̮͎͍̹̜͓̗̖̬̩̳̱͗͒̌͗̊̎͆̎̍̏̂̚͠ṇ̵̡̻̠̪͚̗̳̫̭̺͓̞͓̳̥̀̈́̓̍͋͋͆͒̈̇̚͘e̶̛̞͆͗̓͆̆̾͆̈͂̕̕͠͝
"What? What is it Melody." Captain Q'ari looked over at me, worried. A trickle of blood ran from my nose.
"Ugh, not the top one. That's where the warning to stay away came from. The bottom energy source is the traction field. but there are... people? down there too. If we target it, survivors will die."
Captain Q'ari nodded. "Weapons stand down. We're going to brute force our way out." She looked around the room. "Juke charges then." She touches a panel on her seat. "All hands, prepare for shock."
The small explosives designed to slide a starship out of the way of a missile at the last moment are called juke charges, because the ship will juke, or feint out of the way while not overly changing the direction of travel. When we're not going fast, they can be used to spin us in place too. The little charge pops out and then explodes and the pressure wave pushes on the ships hull, moving us. I'm told when we first showed them to the K'laxi they thought we were clearly mentally ill. They're used to it now, but tellingly they have not adopted the technology.
With their telltale double thump, the charges fire out of the port side rear and starboard side front. Slowly, much slower than normal we begin to move.
"Again!" Captain Q'ari shouts.
Again the double thump. Now, we're sliding perpendicular to the Starbase.
"Again!"
Double thump. We're almost turned around.
"Again."
Another double thump. Now we're sliding rear first towards the Starbase, but we're facing the Warp Gate.
"FarReach." Captain Q'ari takes a breath. "I Authorize War Emergency Power for the duration of the emergency, and should I become incapacitated I authorize you to complete the mission, save the crew and protect yourself in that order."
"Aye Captain. War Emergency Power authorized. Fuses and Limiters removed."
As soon as FarReach was finished speaking I felt it. The reactors spun faster and faster their power output far above their normal operation. The ever present low thrumming of the reactors became a teeth rattling whine. For short amounts of time, the reactors on a single Starjumper could power multiple Starbases completely, or fire their main batteries without pause, or link multiple times in a system.
At least until they overloaded and detonated.
"Fire Stardrive. two gee thrust." Captain Q'ari said through gritted teeth. "We are not going to be pulled into that Starbase."
Given the seriousness of our situation, FarReach was just as calm as the rest of us. We've been trained, they've been alive for a thousand years. Doing the job under pressure is the goal. "Aye Captain. Two gees." An alarm sounded all over the ship.
"Brace for thrust. Brace for thrust. Two gees. Thrust orientation relative to rear wall. Brace for thrust."
I've never seen it when out in space, but I'm told the firing of the old Stardrives is a very impressive thing. The flame from the drives is a searing pure white and at high thrusts has tendrils of black at the edges. Before the wormhole generators were developed, they were used to thrust a Starjumper up to around half the speed of light, and they'd coast between stars until it was time to flip over and brake and reach another planet,
See? They'd 'jump' between the stars.
From up on the Command Deck it was still impressive. My seat was such that when the Stardrive fired, I was pressed into my seat like I was in a vehicle that was doing really fast, or like I was being launched from planetside to orbit. Two gee is uncomfortable, but not unbearable. I've heard of Starjumpers thrusting at 10 gees or higher when they don't have a biological crew; that would kill me in not too much time at all.
Through the loud rumbling and vibration Kieran shouted "It's working, though it's very slow. We are moving forward."
Captain Q'ari nodded. "Mullen. Ping the Gate. I want no delays to our escape.
"Aye Captain." We were still a little far from the gate normally, but what here is normal? I dialed the power on the message laser up and pinged the Gate. I have to admit, when it accepted my ping and started to glow blue, I was relieved. "Address has been accepted. Gate is active. We may traverse." I said.
Q'ari nodded. "Helm. Traverse while under Stardrive power."
"Captain..." FarReach interrupted. "That is not recommended. The Stardrive flame is very... damaging. If we traverse while my flame is lit, I could damage the Warp Gate. We don't know what happened here or who did this but I don't think we should destroy any means of coming back here... or means for anyone here to escape."
"Thank you FarReach. Helm, belay that last order. Fire the Stardrive until we are almost at the Gate, then cut the flame and we'll coast though... ideally.
"Aye Captain. Cutting drive in 10 seconds."
"5 seconds..."
"Drive flame cut."
All at once, the pressure and the shaking and the vibration stopped. It was eerily silent.
"Helm?" Captain Q'ari looked over. "Are we still coasting?"
Kieran looked at his console. "Yes, Captain we-"
We Traversed.

6.4 MSQ Review
Some thoughts on our quest to save the Void...(spoilers under the cut)
Admittedly, I waited a bit before I did the MSQ (because Ancients took priority with Pandaemonium's finale and all that), but the MSQ overall was both...how do I put this? A bit of a mixed bag. I don't doubt that there's a lot of set up going on for a big finale (as well as tying up some threads from Endwalker), but I found that the story update had a bit more filler than I would like. Anyways, on to the specifics!
Estinien fans, how we feeling? Because that curry didn't leave me all hot and bothered, but this sure did:
Tumblr media
Was it fanservice? Yes.
Did it prove Estinien is Endwalker's thirst king? Yes.
Did I nearly break my keyboard from hitting that Print Screen button to screenshot? I have the right to remain silent. (Also yes.)
The scene probably wasn't necessary, but Zero's reaction made for a good laugh, and it's nice to see some of the other Scions get some fan love.
I'd like to pretend that I have more to say for the first half of the MSQ, but honestly? There's not much. And I'm not sure how I feel about that. There were some cute moments (like the curry and Zero terrifying the Loporrits), but the journey from Radz to the moon just felt long and tedious. Thancred's cameo felt short and over too soon, and from a storytelling perspective, I can't help but wonder what purpose he served there. I felt like he needed a bigger role to be there, but maybe we'll get that role later as the MSQ hinted to seeing him again.
That being said, the new dungeon is a delight. The fights were fun, the music exciting, and the view was absolutely breathtaking. And the bears! How can you not stop by and watch them play?
Tumblr media
I should probably say something about Garlemald before we head to the Void, and I think a lot of folks have mentioned that they felt the Garlean arc served its purpose, but perhaps would've made a better story for an expansion rather than continuing as side stories. I feel like Garlemald was such a big player in the overall tale, and having it sidetracked seems like a lot of missed opportunities. Rather than repeat the same "we don't trust outsiders, but I guess you aren't so bad, so we'll trust you" thought process, I feel like we really could've seen a great story told with how Garlemald rises from the ashes. It could have been an interesting story on forgiveness and redemption (plus some really dramatic infighting with who wants to take control), but I feel like we won't really see it unless it's in short bursts here and there.
Anyways, on to the Void. Seeing Vrtra in his full dragon form was a huge delight and as much as I love his avatars, seeing him go to his sister as himself was really nice. It really brought back some of the delights of Heavensward and seeing just how capable Vrtra is like the rest of the brood. Azdaja comparing Estinien to Nidhogg was on point and made me chuckle, and it was great to see Vrtra and Azdaja reunited, if only for a little while.
But then we get to Golbez. Between his own words and Zero's flashbacks, I feel like we get to the main course of the MSQ at this point.
Tumblr media
There's a lot to unpack here, and I'm going to do my best to condense my thoughts so you don't have a book to read. I think most have come to the same conclusion that the real Golbez (a.k.a. the mage) is possibly the Void's shard of the Warrior of Light. The unvoiced cutscene and the fact that they pretty much act like us is pretty obvious, and I don't doubt we'll get more about the mage later on, especially with their crystal getting yeeted into Zeromus. On a side note (and this is just me crying in caster main), but it was really cool to see a mage in armor. Robes are nice and all, but a mage in spiky armor is a rare sight that I'd like to see more of.
Anyways, I won't rehash what others have said regarding the new trial and how our trip to the void didn't pan out according to plan, but I do have a theory about Durante that is probably off the wall, and I can't help but wonder about it.
We learn through the mage's crystal and Zero's flashback that Durante and Golbez were pretty much besties, going off and doing hero work when the Void was in chaos. Throughout our journey with Zero, she has mentioned our "friendship" with Zenos, trying to figure out what it meant. Jullus' words on trust and our own thinking of Zenos' final moments have a reason, and I don't think these mentions are without purpose.
I think Durante is a shard of Zenos, and it's not because he's a big, buff dude with blonde hair. His devotion to Golbez, his strength and power...it's very reminiscent of our Garlean prince, but instead of a rivalry, we could get a glimpse of what life could have been like with Zenos sharing our journey instead of fighting it.
Tumblr media
In terms of storytelling, I can't help but wonder if it's an attempt to add more layers to Zenos despite him not being in the picture. Or perhaps it's trying to show us that in another world, the WoL/Zenos pair is actually a pretty strong one. Or maybe it will provide us a way to connect to Durante later on. We couldn't save Zenos, but perhaps we could save his shard. Only time will tell with how this will all pan out, but I don't think the flashbacks to Zenos are without purpose, and what that purpose truly is, we'll eventually see.

Digimon Adventure (Manga) - Vol. 1
This is the manga (or manhua) adaptation of the original Digimon Adventure anime. I got my copy from the library and you can borrow it for free on Archive.org!
Manga adaptations of anime are typically cheap money grabs that just copy-paste from the anime, removing some of the soul of the original along the way. As such, I'm not expecting much from this.
Notes:
Ch. 1
-You can almost always tell when a manga isn't drawn by a Japanese artist, it's just a certain vibe (I know this is technically a manhua). That being said, the art is competent enough. Yuen Wong seems to struggle most when it comes to faces. A lot of the faces look really janky and off model for both the digimon and the digi-destined. The only other thing that's kind of off is that the text boxes are very heavily lined and take up a lot more space than I'm used to.
-When Sora is drawn in chibi-mode she has the straps of her hat up like a rabbit. At first the silhouette was so unfamiliar that I had no idea who it was lol.
-So they covered two episodes in one chapter (up until the Shellmon battle). Let's see if the pace stays that way...
Ch. 2
-This definitely has a similar vibe to most manga adapted from anime that I've read. I wonder if it will diverge from the original material at any point, too soon to judge.
-Tai says to Agumon "I'll do anything but a teeth buffing" and I have nooo idea what that means? (Is he saying "don't eat me?") Also in chapter one Izzy said "baby blue, how emasculating!" when talking about the digivice. I don't think Koushiro would ever say that tbh. I feel like spotting these weird dialogue choices is going to be the most entertaining part about reading this.
Ch. 3
-I guess we're now going at a pace of one episode per chapter, which is fine. Somehow the content still seems a little condensed with a lot of the emotional beats cut out. I feel like the setting changes every two seconds which is giving me whiplash.
-Some weird quirks: the digi-destined call their digimon by their rookie names, even when they're in champion form. Also, the artist really really likes drawing smiley faces as stand-ins for the actual characters. That's like a step below chibification lol
-I think manga like this is perfect for if you wanted to watch Digimon Adventure 02, but you didn't want to catch up on a 50+ episode anime. It's a lot faster to read than to watch. (Although probably not as satisfying overall).
Ch. 4
-More cheesy dialogue. Izzy says "don't mess with an elite hacker" to Tai lol. Koushiro is way more likeable in the original Japanese because localizations loved to make nerds insufferable in the 90s.
-It's funny, I've never thought of Tentomon as robot-like, but in this chapter he said his parts were "short circuiting" and I was like "oh yeahhh...I guess he does have metallic features"
-Did we really need that close-up crotch shot of Andromon?
-You would think that the plot point of there being editable code laying around in random areas of the digital world would have come up again, but I can't remember another time it was really used to the kids' advantage.
Ch. 5
-This panel made me laugh:
Tumblr media
(something about this phrasing and the expressionless chibis is so funny).
-And then Izzy never manually triggered a digivolution again...for some reason? (I feel like this was definitely explained in the anime, but I can't remember what they said).
-They didn't censor the poop this time! As usual, you can get away with more in print than you can on the screen B)
-They confirm that you can repel Numemon with sunlight...and then immediately the kids get attacked by more Numemon in broad daylight. Quickest continuity error ever!
-Another chuckle worthy moment:
Tumblr media
Ch. 6
-Okay, but this one had me die laughing. Just a really good dad joke:
Tumblr media
-Going from Adventure 02 back to the early Adventure days the stakes really do feel lower. No existential conundrums or human/humanoid villains to contend with. Just rampaging digis that can be easily cured.
Ch. 7
-Maybe it's just a translation thing, but sometimes the digimon act like there's one of each digimon species. Like Gomamon says "Unimon's a nice guy!" as if there's one Unimon in the world. Pretty confusing for kids. I wish mon series would just use names (they do sometimes, but it's not the status quo).
Yep, that was pretty generic. I wish they had thrown some more personality in there to make this a unique experience. I would have loved to read some final thoughts from the mangaka or to have gotten an omake of some sort. Ohhh welll...

May 2022 Mid Monthly Report
Tumblr media
Hello hello again! I am back with a proper Mid Monthly Report this time. This month I will be talking about some upcoming projects for this summer, so stick around if you're interested in learning more.
As always, if you're interested in learning more about my WIP Project : Desert, the consider checking out the Masterlist or my Artstation for a more condensed view.
So without further ado, let's begin!
Project Progress
Act One Completion
Tumblr media
We are finally done writing Act One of Project : Desert! Good lord did it take a long time, but it's finished and now we are ready to move onto Act Two.
So one of the big things I realize while writing Draft 1 - Act 1 was just how demanding it was. I'm no stranger to writing, but this is the first time I've written something as big as Project : Desert. In the past, I've only ever written short stories and various forms of flash fiction, so moving up to a project as big as this is just... it's really something. And it's fun-- I'm excited to see how the story will play out, but I need to develop better writing habits if I'm going to see the completion of Draft 1 by the end of the year. That means it's going to be my goal this summer to complete (or at least get close to completing) Act Two.
I know this will be a tough goal to do, but if I'm committed to writing at least a little bit every day, then I think I can achieve it.
New Art in the Works
I'm working on a new set of artwork for Pro:Des (though let's be honest, when am I not). I wanted to do something different than another round of concept art, so I decided I wanted to do a set of prints this time. The plan is for them to be Art Nouveau/ Mucha-inspired prints featuring the main cast (meaning yes, Niv will get his own illustration for once). So it will be a set of 5 prints, likely A4 sized unless there's a different measurement that seems more fitting.
I'm not quite sure how long this will take compared to how long the area or character concepts took. A single illustration could range from a week to two months. I'd like to think that for what I'm planning it won't be too terribly long, but I want to give myself enough time to work on it while also letting myself be able to work on other stuff in the mean time. Let's say I put the deadline to the end of September to get the 5 prints done; that gives me four-and-a-half months to get this done.
I think I can do that.
New Project Announcement??
I'm not really one to multitask projects-- I feel like even when I try, one project gets focused on over the other. But this summer I decided I wanted to join a game jam.
If you're not familiar with the concept, a game jam is an event where game developers of any kind are given a set amount of time to create a game. Game jams can be as short as a day or as long as two months. I will be joining SuNoFes 2022 this year, which will begin July 1st and end August 31st. It is a game jam that focuses on visual novels and story-based games. Since we're allowed to start planning before the event begins, I will be releasing small devlogs every so often starting next week up until the end of the event to document the game's development.
So currently, the project is called Project : Identity; it is about a woman name Sid who is a lone wolf in the city's underground scene. While she may not be part of any gang officially, she does have ties to a few and is known to help people out in a pinch. But Sid is a notorious people-pleaser, so much so that her inability to say no has landed her in the middle of an on-going turf war; she accidentally turned into a double agent between two rival gangs. Unable to reconcile both sides, Sid has to make the difficult choice of siding with one of the two gangs.
For those interested in what the game might look like, here's a quick mockup image of where I'd like to take the art direction:
Tumblr media
Goals
May Goals:
Write three/four chapters by June 15th
Storyboard chapters 6 & 8 by June 15th
Finish Art Nouveau prints by September 30th (or sooner)
Begin development for Project : Identity and post first devlog by May 22nd.
Update the Masterlist by May 31st
Begin work on Project : Desert anniversary
That sums up my report for this month. Thank you for reading and I hope you'll support me in my future endeavors!

Project 1: Music Festival Design System
Week 2 - Typographic Design: Form and Communication by Rob Carter
Chapter 2: The Evolution of Typography
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Typography has been around since words were first written, even if it was not recognized or had a term for it. It has developed from purely physical, handwritten words to a digital medium. Words were transformed from a simple means of communication, to an art style that communicates visually as well.
Typography began as impressions made into stone/clay before shifting to papyrus and parchment. Greek and Roman writing became the large and uniform serif letters we are familiar with. Church monasteries would have scribes that would copy text by hand to create books. In later centuries, there would be demand for a uniform writing style by Charlemagne. This new style would be termed as Gothic. It started as Early Gothic (which was focused on bigger letters) to Gothic (a condensed version). Woodblocks and the Gutenberg press made printing uniform type easier, and much quicker. New styles of type were created, but all still featured serifs. By the 1800s there was a huge revolution in typography. Type was no longer being designed with such emphasis on perfecting the standard typeface, but focused on decorative fonts. This time also gave way to the first sans serif. Type then shifted from printing presses to typewriters. The 1900s was when typography was really being pushed out of its original form. Sans serifs became more popular, and new art styles influenced the designers of typefaces. In the 1980s Apple's Macintosh computer made it possible to use and make fonts digitally.
This history is important to remember when designing. The Music Festival Poster design is supposed to feature typography in an interesting and striking way. It needs to be the main feature and focus. With so much of design being focused on digital mediums, it can be hard to remember how effective, helpful, and unique designing from hand can be. I typically stray away from hand-made work, but I want to push myself to create new types rather than tweaking typefaces made by others. I struggle to come up with ideas for different styles, but experimenting has led me to come up with ideas that I never would have considered had I not just got my ideas onto paper messily.

Typeface research
To start typeface hunt, i decided to look into trending fonts and typefaces of 2023 and what will be popular in 2024. Looking into trends and applying them to my work will attract larger audience to the brochure and therefor the event the brochure is promoting.
As typography is one of the most crucial parts of any design, i thought that looking into the specifics of typography design and what attracts attention to designs would be a smart move and step forward into creating a successful design.
Popular fonts of 2023
1. Blimey
Tumblr media
Blimey is designed to be used at a large scale and to make an impact every time it’s being used. Initially released in 2018, this typeface from the Brussels-based type studio Love Letters is now fully developed into 8 weights with two different fields of gravity. Also to use as a variable font which lets you manually change weights and widths.
2. Gooper
Tumblr media
Gooper is much more versatile due to the number of weights and styles. We really like the light versions and with the Italic options, this might be one of the best cursive fonts for projects that are in need of some quirkiness. It even has semi-condensed and condensed which we really missed about the original Cooper typeface.
3. Cheee
Tumblr media
Some fonts can carry a design on their own and this display typeface from OH no Type Co. is definitely an example of this. Slap a random word on your packaging covered in Cheee and you’re on your way to creating something beautiful. Sometimes a font inspires you instantly once you start working with it and Cheee never disappoints.
Not for most conventional brands, but all the better it will work for edgy and fresh brands. There will be more display fonts starring this best 2023 fonts selection, but Cheee is without a doubt one of our favorite fonts at the moment.
9. Degular
Tumblr media
Degular is the perfect mix between technical and outgoing. It checks all the boxes to be a well-built typeface but with the use of some very characteristic letter forms and the overall appearance of the typeface, this is the perfect choice to use for a modern, fresh brand.
22. Bely
Tumblr media
Who doesn’t love a sharp serif typeface once in a while? Bely from TypeTogether’s Roxane Gataud is a beautiful typeface from which the Bely Display Regular is without a doubt our favorite. Perfect to use for print and online headings, wordmarks, business cards and so much more which made it only logical to add it to this best 2023 fonts list.
18. Atyp
Tumblr media
Unique letter forms like this make Atyp one of the best fonts for logos as it will give your wordmark enough original features that can make an impact on your design. Geometric typography and clean, utility-inspired graphic design styles are still all the rage at the moment so characteristic fonts such as Atyp are among the best 2023 fonts to use for your design projects.
https://www.jukeboxprint.com/blog/23-of-the-best-fonts-for-designers-2023
I looked through a website called “JukeboxPrint”. The have a list of 23 upcoming fonts of 2023. Chose to look at the top fonts on this website to gather and idea of the style and aesthetic of typographic design that we will be seeing more of this year.
I also went through and checked out out some fonts that i think could suit the theme of the event. Some keywords that i associate with event include: business, learning, formal, informative, fresh, new, modern, exciting.
I think that Bely suits the aesthetic of this event as it introduces formal qualities using the serifs while also looking clean and modern as it varies from your typical serif font such as New Times Roman and Georgia which are very commonly used and overdone. Bely also seems to be made up of geometric shapes which gives a modern aesthetic to the typeface.
Aytp can also be a great sans serif alternative for the poster and brochure. Aytp also has geometric qualities which seems to be a trend with typography recently. It is a bold typeface which indicates importance and will also draw the viewers eye in. I think the simplicity of the font will bode well with the minimal colour palette i am intending to use and will create an overall clean, calm and inviting feel.
Degular is another sans serif font i am looking to use, similar to Atyp, it is a bold font however it doesn't contain any sharp geometric shapes. This is a more rounded font with sharp corners which creates a modern nostalgic aesthetic in my opinion. This font generates feelings that correspond with formal yet also fun and fresh. The sharpness of the corners mixed with the curve of the letters produce an overall funky vibe.
I want to text these 3 fonts on my future designs as i think they will all bring out different aspects of the event that i want to portray.

BLOG POST #8: CASE STUDY ROUGH
CLIENT
Make It Right
PROBLEM
Anyone that’s ever worked a job as a teenager or young adult will tell you how much it sucks- you get harassed, taken advantage of, and screamed at by crappy bosses and customers. Young worker jobs just plain suck.
The statistics back this up, showing young workers are the most likely to suffer issues at work. Being new to the workforce, everyone and everything is intimidating and you’re afraid to ask questions. So how do we help young workers know their rights and gain the confidence they need to assert their boundaries?
ROLE
Graphic Design, Typography, Illustration, UX/UI
SOLUTION
a punchy brand that appeals to 14-20 year olds and stands out on social media that feels as though it was made by other young workers (not corporate, FOR the workers not FOR businesses and companies)
brand guide that volunteers can follow easily to keep brand consistency
merchandise that’s wearable but also showcases the brand and drives awareness
accordion, square pamphlet featuring real stories from young workers, showcasing audience they are not alone and showing solutions to possible issues at work in a playful and easy to digest way
instagram profile with easy-to-follow templates that volunteers and people involved can use to post to instagram
website that teaches users their rights in a quick-snippet fashion that’s easy to navigate, and is empathetic to short attention spans
set of sticker illustrations that volunteers can utilize across all templates and media
DESIGN PROCESS
Research
Gather large amounts of statistics and pieces of information, both anecdotal and factual, from a variety of sources, on both the audience and the topic
compile information and sift through key points/commonalities
write data on sticky notes (visual person, if I don’t do this I can’t function I SWEAR), begin categorizing information into categories such as facts about harassment, survey information, mental health info
begin making connections, IE. 75% of young workers find stress when there are problems at work=this is a stressful topic, so it needs to be as smooth as possible to deal with
Ideation
choose key tone words (bold, energetic, authentic)
create moodboard
create design brief to keep self on track
decide on best-fit deliverables based on research
begin sketching ideas for said deliverables
begin sketching logos and selecting type and colours
create personas for website
decide on most important information for website
create wireframes
receive feedback on sketches and wireframes, implement
Design
set up all files with the same swatches and type choices
scan analog materials-shredded paper, tape, hand writing, etc
utilized procreate to create illustrations for brand, bring into illustrator to vectorize
photoshop sticker elements
implement designs
create adobe xd prototype for website
Test
get feedback on all deliverables
have audience members test website prototype for user issues
print out print documents to check for legibility and colours
upload instagram templates, icons, etc to make sure everything fits and flows together (fake instagram profile)
RESULTS
Make it Right succeeds when young workers are able to use its resources to educate themselves on their rights in the workplace. Young workers in British Columbia will feel empowered with these resource and they’ll be properly informed about their rights while involved in the workforce. They’ll also gain a sense of community and solidarity with other young workers, knowing that they’re not alone.
Playful branding softens the topic of troublesome work issues and makes it easier to consume information about your rights at work. Information is short and punchy, written in a more casual, condensed form, taking away the issue that most worker’s resources have, which is dry and difficult to understand legal information. Young workers will feel a sense of community on social media, interacting with the profile, and reading stories from young workers like themselves in the pamphlet. Merchandise spreads the word about Make it Right’s message, while also showing solidarity between those that are involved with Make it Right. Finally, the website is accessible and easy-to-navigate, featuring categorized, searchable information about young worker’s rights, written in a peer-like manner. The chat feature on the website offers immediate support to advice to those in need.
KEY LEARNINGS
create a brand and apply it to both digital and analog products
empathize with younger audience
condense difficult information into something easy to digest
create a fully-linked website prototype in xd
extract important info and glean commonalities from large amounts of data
new illustration style
photoshopping stickers
use scanned analog materials
CONCLUSION
Make it Right informs young workers of their rights and empowers them with that knowledge, while also giving them a sense that they’re not alone in their struggle-it happens to the best of us.
Possible Image Captions:
-bright colours, ripped paper, tape, and stickers, all feel handmade and vibrant, kind of like an old school diary
-since this is a charity thing, the brand guide makes it easy for anyone just volunteering to keep content consistent
-instagram is kind of a given for an audience of 14-20. it spreads brand awareness, but also informs in visual, short, bite-size snippets.
-instagram templates are pretty much plug and play for content, anyone volunteering can just punch in the words and images they need.
-The pamphlet’s a bit tactile, and the square shape is unique. Gotta catch the eye!
-merchandise being wearable at actual jobs was important, like water bottle and tote bags.

They are also found in purpose-built water systems such as cooling towers, evaporative condensers, hot and cold water systems and spa pools where human contact is more likely and where increased risk is found.
If conditions are favourable, the bacteria may grow increasing the risks of Legionnaires’ disease and it is therefore important to control the risks by introducing appropriate measures outlined by the HSE guidance documents HSG 274 and ACoP L8. Stop Water from Your Walls and Floors with Moisture Control System
Tumblr media
The process of moisture control is given widespread attention in construction practices. The need to install a secure moisture control system is a must since there is a demand for better insulation and airtight envelope systems that can save energy.
Tumblr media
Most new constructions have a higher demand for thermal comfort thus more heating and air conditioning systems are installed. With new construction being done this way, this imposed temperature and vapor pressure gradient can lead to condensation and mold growth. The need to install appropriate moisture control will ensure an energy-efficient system and damage-free building in the long run.
It is a challenging job to protect a residential, commercial, or industrial building from moisture. Moisture control is a very important aspect to keep the integrity of your structures.
In California, Extreme Epoxy Coatings can help protect your property surfaces from these harmful industrial challenges. We apply the best moisture control solution to address the need for impermeable membrane protection for your structures’ walls and floors. We locate the sources of these problems to have a proper assessment and application of solutions.
Importance of Maintaining a Moisture Control System
Relative humidity levels are important when it comes to the comfort and productivity of people working in office buildings. But moisture control system is not only for these structures but are also extremely important in other facilities like:
Pharmaceutical Manufacturing The integrity of drug manufacturing can be compromised with the presence of just a trace of moisture in the area of production. Trace moisture can be absorbed during drug production and can affect its shelf life. Moreover, coated drugs are dried using a specific relative humidity. Any alterations from the specific requirement will affect the products’ quality.
Paper Manufacturing Paper has a very specific relative humidity requirement that an increasing percentage from the normal can potentially damage the goods. It can cause irreversible damage once paper starts to expand and curl. Even cardboards are not spared from damage once unwanted moisture has seeped its way to them. Stacking cardboard will be difficult and unsafe since it is already swelling from the presence of moisture.  Printers can also be affected by unwanted moisture and it can present a poor print quality in magazines, banners, and other printed materials.
Understanding the Benefits of Quality Moisture Control Installation
There are a lot of structures that can benefit from having a good and properly installed moisture control system. Residences have the greatest need for this kind of protection since it is the one structure where people permanently dwell. The humidity in a given area can affect its thermal comfort and indoor air quality.
It can affect people’s health especially when damp air is always present. It can facilitate the growth of molds and bacteria that causes respiratory problems and also provides a haven for dust mites to multiply and affect asthmatic people. Aside from this, condensation can form on windows, floors, and ceilings that can potentially damage the building material.
The presence of moisture can practically result in unwanted repair costs and damage. Water molecules that are the source of this malady can be the outcome of poor construction practices done on the property. In most cases, the absence of a low permeable, tear, and puncture-resistant vapor barrier during construction can result in this moisture damage appearing later.
California-based Extreme Epoxy Coatings can help you re-establish control over your property to address and strengthen the areas of concern. Upon inspecting and assessing your area, we can give you recommendations that can prevent further damages.
We use duly tested and high-quality products to ensure your safety. Our product can create an impermeable membrane needed on the surface of your walls and floors that can prevent you from breathing air–filled spores and mildew.
This effective barrier will fortify your protection and increase the integrity of your wall and floor surfaces. We pattern our moisture solution based on the type of protection needed by the property. Our highly skilled technicians will be responsible for its installation to make sure it is done properly thus giving you the peace of mind that you need.

How To Start A Scrap Metal Recycling Company
Make your initial sketches pretty easy. Start by drawing basic shapes: most cars are oblong with squarish side windows and oval front and rear windows. Once you have a basic shape, you can begin trying to add some details.
We rode along backroads in the country, and the scenery was pretty. We followed the group around curves, under the shade of trees, and through the little neighboring towns. I tried to take it all in ... the homes, the landscapes, and the people. The sound of the bike roared uphill, and then we coasted down the hill. The riders used hand signals to communicate with each other. The obvious ones, right hand and left hand turns, and stop. Then they had some additional ones for forming a single line, changing lanes, and slowing down. It was fun to watch. One by one the riders signaled, and it was like a wave the crowd does at a baseball game. We passed by car junker near me and cemeteries. It was sad.
Most of the car owners are from UAE but some are from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and even Iraq. You can spot the cars right away by the foreign license plates. Many of the cars have been modified and are painted in bright colors including gold, silver, pink and yellow. London has surpassed Monte Carlo and Monaco as the exotic car capital of the world. Even though these cars can easily reach speeds of over 200 mph, many end up being driven in first gear due to gridlock traffic.
Various antique auto parts are available in the market. They include; the ignition parts such as rotors, condensers, rebuilt starters, ignite gears, distributor drive gears, voltage regulators among many others. Spark plugs are also available but only by special order. The headlights, horn, transmission, fog lights, blower, and air conditioning are some of the very old relay items available in the market. They give ones car a very old feel and are available in classic or old style designs.
Now you want to check out their ordering system. Most automotive parts sites use an Online Catalog Ordering System. They are very easy to use. Some will ask you for your vehicles year, make and model then you click the search button and a list of all the parts available for your vehicle will appear. pull a part may ask you what part you are looking for first and then ask for your vehicle information. So make sure you have all the needed vehicle information handy. Your vehicles, year, make model and engine size, should be all you need. You can get most of this information from your registration. You engine size is on the information label in your engine compartment or sometime stamped on your air cleaner or valve cover.
More and more replica cars are now using petroleum powered RC cars. These replicas tend to be the bigger ones. These RC cars and trucks have engines that are more familiar to the non-specialist, but they have all the characteristics of an typical car. They produce fumes, noise and are slower to accelerate that the other kinds. However, petrol driven engines will last longer than nitro engines. Because these models are larger, they can take more fuel on board and so go longer distances.
There is always a risk factor when buying anything used. You don't want to buy a part only to have it not work properly. It's important to feel comfortable knowing that there is a clear return/exchange policy and some kind of warranty. Have a firm understanding of the warrantee before making a purchase. You don't want to get scammed because you didn't read the fine print. If they don't even offer a warranty, find a different place that will.
Even if an auto part isn't working for you, it may be of some use to someone else. It takes time to track down someone that needs the part so the recycling center may be the perfect middleman for the job. You can drop off all of the parts that you are not using. Eventually, someone else may call up the facility and ask about that exact part. Some broken parts can be repaired and reused. While dealers and other car repair shops may not be able to use these items, someone looking to fix his or her own vehicle will be able to save some cash by putting on a used part.
Technology used in these remote control cars and even in slot cars leave you speechless. There are different magazines available you can read to become master. It can be informative, educative and also entertaining. So to sum up it could be a great hobby. Making an RC control cars yourself is really amazing. Who knows hobby shop may trigger your passion to pursue a career in this afterwards! There are instructions, tools, cleaning ball bearings and motor cleaning tips and even shock absorbers. Building a car completely on yourself makes you learn a lot about automotive industry. You are introduced to the latest automotive technology.
In addition to these things, find out if the company offers you the options you need for your repair. For example, some will offer used and aftermarket parts. This can help you to keep the costs lower. They may even offer used tires, which could save you a significant amount on your next purchase. Be sure the company you select offers the specific type of part you need as well, such as radiators, batteries, gas tanks, or transmissions. Do not assume that all companies carry all of the items you may need.

How Usually Should I Dust? Not Cleansing May Cause Lung Infections
Although water could also be a great tool for lowering potential contamination, it may also introduce or unfold contaminants. Dorothea Dix Sunflower Photography Mini Sessions
The sunflowers will soon be in bloom at Dorothea Dix park in Raleigh, NC!
This is a beautiful event, one you will not want to miss. This year I am hosting mini sessions at the field to take advantage of the gorgeous scenery.
If you're looking for something fun to do/experience in Raleigh, this is it. Maybe bring a picnic or stop by the State Farmers Market afterwards (it's peak peach and watermelon season).
~~~~For info about 2023 sessions click here!!!!~~~~
These mini sessions are a great opportunity to get some photos with your bff, family, romantic partner, or even solo! I'd love to do some more creative style shoots, so maybe even a band looking for an album cover? I'm open to all ideas.
These photography sessions last 20 minutes and come with 10 edited images, an online gallery, and a print release, so you can get them printed wherever you prefer. All for only $200.
Due to the condensed nature of these sessions, there might not be enough time for groups with more than 4 people. If that is you, please reach out and we will discuss you needs and see what we can do.
For more information on what to expect during a session, and a sample of my work, check out my lifestyle portfolio.
Tumblr media
If you have any questions or want to discuss the session, you can email me at [email protected] or fill out a contact form.
Dorothea dix park is located in central Raleigh, close to downtown. The sunflower field is on the eastern side of the park, the easiest entrance is via the hunt drive entrance or Blair drive entrance. It's not a very far walk from the parking area, but it does require walking on a dirt path, which may not be as accessible for some (especially those wearing heels).
The sunflowers blooming is a pretty busy time for visiting the park, so I've tried to schedule my sessions at a time when it won't be quite as busy. If you'd prefer a quieter visit, opt for a Thursday session. You may want to arrive a bit before your session to ensure you can find parking.
