#watching him in simon & marcy compared to Fionna and cake

I think one underrated tragedy of Ice King's scars is that he probably took away Simon's sense of levity.
Like in his very limited appearances before Simon is consumed by the crown we see he's kind of a silly dude. In his introduction video, he only put on the crown in order to playfully tease his fiancee. Plus watching him make light of the loneliness and general misery for a young girl in a broken world. He was a dedicated man, who was generous and loved with his whole heart and threw himself one hundred percent into everything he did. He was also a fun lil guy.
But after almost a millennia of being a mad man, the brunt of every joke, someone who only existed as a broken caricature of himself and couldn't be counted on to take anything seriously, I imagine he was done with it. Now he wants to focus back on his academic endeavors, on his role as a father figure in Marcy's life, on being a proper adult. Any attempts to be silly could easily remind everyone - including himself- of Ice King, something he's eager to avoid.
So his jokes and jibes and general lightheartedness turned to sarcasm and self deprecating comments.

what would you say is the best episode of AT, and what would you say is your favorite? if these are one and the same to you that's cool too
i have one for each season! but The Vault has always been my favourite. For those not in the know, it’s an ep where Finn opens his mental vault to find out what a spooky ghost is trying to tell him, and discovers the ghost is actually one of his past lives who got into some trouble with a Gang and was forced to steal a valuable item from the leader of a new yet very familiar camp…
Anyway it blew my mind.
The BEST episodes? It depends what youre looking for.
Some of the most iconic eps from earlier seasons (with arguably increasing quality) are Ocean of Fear, Mortal Folly, Susan Strong, What Was Missing, Dad’s Dungeon, I Remember You, The Lich/Finn the Human/Jake the Dog, Simon and Marcy (which is really good), The Vault, the Lemonhope twoparter, Billy’s Bucket List/Wake Up/Escape to the Citadel, and The Tower…. and Food Chain which is my favourite episode of season 6 lol. The rest of S6 kinda sucked, apart from Evergreen. There’s more decent eps such as The Cooler but despite their important content I dont think their quality holds up.
Then Season 7 is where stuff gets REALLY good. But it’s difficult to attribute this to any individual episodes.
You kick off with Bonnie and Neddy, followed by Varmints, which work together as amazing backstory/development eps. Then you have the entirety of Stakes which is this cool Kill Bill scenario all about Marceline and her friends. The Vampire King always reminded me of Zaheer.
Then towards the end of the season you have The Thin Yellow Line and Broke his Crown which are two of my favourites, followed by The Music Hole which almost a spiritual sequel to What Was Missing, and then you have a very famous ep called Hall of Egress which is the most Tom Herpich ep to ever be created. I think most people will tell you Hall of Egress is the best in Season 7.
After that, you have Preboot/Reboot and the Islands arc, which is the end of season 7 and the first half of season 8. It’s largely about Finn discovering his family. Theres a few different eps here such as Jelly Beans Have Power and Wheels which aren’t about Finn’s story. I think the Islands Arc is AT at its emotional maturest. It’s so…. grounded here, even when compared to Stakes and especially compared to the upcoming Elements storyline.
Elements was the most fun series, by far, to watch on stream. Each episode was filled with something great on rewatch. I spent a long time rewatching clips from this, especially ones with PB and Marceline because god knows I still ship them even when Marceline’s been transformed into a marshmallow and PB is a fucking tower.
After Elements, however? Adventure Time got even *better*. It was followed by 4 episodes focusing on the impact of Elements (ignoring that Fionna/Cake/Fionna rubbish) and included Ketchup, which is BMO and Marceline talking about their experiences in the recent miniseries using dolls and storytelling… this one is co-animated by the creators of Baman Piderman… and ends in Three Buckets, which is the most perfectly ominious episode since The Lich, but with a much better balance of dark comedy and emotional weight to go along with it.
Season 9? All the eps are good. My personal favourite of these 4 was The Wild Hunt, because it took its subject matter very seriously while still being able to make me laugh, and it was just so WELL DRAWN, with killer music to go along with it. Easily one of the best episodes ever. Others prefer Bonnibel Bubblegum. While the start of this episode was amazing, the second half felt a bit weak to me, but I get its message.
