Sorry in advance because this is a super silly question, but I saw that post about... well, cleaning your bum properly and I was wondering: do people in the states use bidets? What are washcloths? How do they work? Sorry I'm just really curious

That is NOT a silly question. I wish people spoke more about hygiene practices, because we could learn from one another.No we don’t for the most part but we should. Washcloths are textured fabric squares maybe 5 to 6 inches wide.  I’d always thought of washcloths as a cultural thing… I know most black households use them.  We wet them and soap them and use them to clean ourselves in baths and showers.   They are terrific for getting crannies (the curves and crevices and cracks of the body) and typically I’ve seen black people either have two seperate ones for face and body or work from the face down the body before putting in a hamper.But yeah… toilet paper typically doesn’t do the job that well (IMO. I carry wipes), but that is an American thing.   We have wet toilet wipes now, that they claim are flush-able, but I know that they cause issues in sewage lines and septic tanks. I wish bidets were a thing over here.  We’d have more cleaner booty-holes. That’s why those posts keep going around, because often you’ll run into a random someone who likely didn’t have great hygiene practices growing up owing to poverty, abuse, neglect and/or just plain ignorance/laziness and they’ll stink and not know it.I remember even Viola Davis spoke candidly about being teased when she was a child for being unwashed, due to poverty.So, I think those posts really help people, honestly. Don’t be embarrassed if you didn’t know.  PLEASE…  I knew a girl at an early job who didn’t know you were supposed to clean your bellybutton.  She had an intimate encounter with someone she liked and they literally stopped because they could smell her belly-button….  She lifted her shirt and literally saw the dirt she’d unknowingly accumulated over the years from neglecting that spot.  She didn’t know and she was so embarrassed. Thankfully, it was just us talking in the bathroom and I showed her how to clean it properly.We both have the “knotted” innies and she was just swiping it with soap and water, not making little fold around her little finger with the washcloth to really dig in there.   If you have a “smooth” innie, it’s not as difficult to clean. That may have been where the learning curve was.So, anyway, let me take time to leave a few helpful tips, because a lot of people don’t know.  A lot of people don’t know how to pass along the info without embarrassing someone.- MEN - pull back your foreskin and wash there.  wash your penis, get you a washcloth for your balls, taint, and booty-hole  –soap and water, rub the crannies and rinse –spread the booty! do an awkward pelvic upthrust with you legs and spread your cheeks so the water can get there!- WOMEN - same technique for cleaning your genitals except swap-in labia, spread them, get the crannies, get around the clitoral hood too  …  ALSO!! to keep your genitals’ PH in a good place, eat yogurt and/or take probiotic supplements and wear cotton paneled undies. Drink plenty of water.  A mainly juice/soda high-sugar drink diet is bad for your coochie.Use a gentle soap that will not irritate. Dove for sensitive skin is one. I also make my own lye soap which is also fantastic. Whatever you do, don’t use Dr. Bronner’s peppermint… learned that the hard way. DDD:….Though, I know some who also just use water for their vaginas because they believe it’s self-cleaning… and yes, the interior is self-cleaning, i.e. DOUCHING IS BAD FOR YOUR VAGINA.  …But the exterior flappies, the labia and clitoral hoods collect lint, sebum, and body moisture and NEED soap and water to clean IMO, again curve that wash cloth around your fingers spread and get in there, gently but thoroughly. I’ve heard of people who literally just use a bar of soap without any other scrubbing implement to wash themselves, be that a loofah (which accumulates bacteria quickly FYI, change those often) sponge, poof, or washbrush (I like wash-gloves for extra exfoliation)… and I think that may come from that being how we wash our hands?  but honestly….  IMO that’s not really getting you clean.  We shed and replenish our epidermis. The skin on our hands is slightly different from that of the rest of bodies, in thickness and properties.Points that I was raised to especially “get with that wash cloth” were…-behind and in the crevices of my ears

-the corners of my eyes and mouth, my neck

-my bellybutton

-under my arms

-between my toes

-the bottoms of my feet

-between my legs in the folds and cracks and “spread” to rinse-I’m not an anal sex person… but I know it’s also important to prep for that too , if you know you may do it, hygiene-wise with an enema in addition to regular washing…I think that covers everything, just in case some need to hear it.Again, yes I know our foreign neighbors who use bidets have superior bootyholes cleanliness-wise, lol
