Finally getting around to refilling the nursing bag with art cards. I have been throughly surprised how many art lovers are out there and my art in particular. They really do come from all walks of life. The kids want to show their parents, the parents want to know if they can bring their kids over for a studio visit, the grandparents know time is of the essence and want a story for the family, and quickly! Some with already great collections I can compliment, others with nothing but blank walls and personality and with that, potential! Been able to conduct a few sales too but only on their insistence, I like to keep things professional. Everybody seems to at least enjoy knowing though, they tell their friends, they tell their families. My colleagues have been so great too, they tell everybody! Some don’t find out until it happens naturally in conversation, others know prior to arrival. That’s the thing with art and nursing too I guess, you just never know what’s gonna be around the corner, I like to arrive prepared. LISA NG NURSE FAQs Did you always know you wanted to be a nurse? Definite not! Or maybe subconsciously I did, I never really knew what nurses did to be honest. Growing up I was good at art, math and biology. I knew I admired people good at a lot, like Da Vinci. I was never comfortable being the centre of attention but was likeable. Kids in class would come to me for help, I didn’t mind, it was easy and gave me something to do when I was done my own work. I made a lot of art too, again something to work on when I was done everything else and it was always super exciting getting to bring my project into class the next day and wowing everyone. To me, amazing people was hyper gratifying. I’m real sticky about my art though, I demand 100% creative control and need 100% to be able to do it at my own pace. Then with the way the world works and despite painting a lot and actually selling a few, yet never making enough to eat, I realize I had worked 12 different jobs! Never being able to stand one for more than a yr, I felt I needed to solve this riddle once and for all. I had helped my grandma growing up as she was going through Alzheimer’s so I knew I had the stomach for it and off I went and turned some heads and enrolled in nursing school. I’ve had the same job 4 yrs now! I’m a community visiting nurse. I like the autonomy (artists don’t like it when you tell them what to do), I like my team, I like that I’m helping people, the hours are flexible, there’s always available work, it pays better than any other job I’ve ever had so it actually lets me paint better than I’ve ever been able to!
