"A Sandy Hook Saint Patrick's Day" Over the years, many performances were held at Fort Hancock to raise the morale and spirits of the troops who were stationed there. Due to its mind (and bone) numbing isolation, this was no easy feat. During World War 2, these programs had to go into overdrive as the number of men at Sandy Hook swelled into the thousands. One such wonderful example is seen here. On March 17th, 1944, in honor of Saint Patrick's Day, a troupe of Irish Step Dancers held a performance in the Post Gymnasium, attached to the YMCA Building. As you can see, it was very well attended. This artwork with me today is titled "Heptu Bidding Farewell to the City of Obb,” painted in 1909 by some Scottish guy named John Duncan.⁣⁣ ⁣ I love that creature that she's on, but I have no idea what it is 😮.⁣ ⁣ I have no clue who Heptu was either, nor can I find the City of Obb on any ancient maps.🤷🏼‍♀️ It must have been a really bad place though, because poor Heptu was in such a hurry to leave that she didn't even have time to get dressed 😬. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ For the sake of modesty, and because I'm unsure of Tumblr's censorship rules, I'm offering Heptu a small towel here in this post.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ You know, even though she escaped Obb with no clothes, she did have time to adorn herself with lots of jewels and crown.👑💎💍 Maybe she absconded with the Crown Jewels.🤔 I must research this further.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ This is one of the images from John Duncan that I'm now offering on refrigerator magnets and postcards.
