my boyfriend’s reads on teen wolf so far, part 3 (this is the second half of 5b)

“how is this town not under martial law? why hasn’t there been a mass exodus enforced by child protective services to get these kids out of there?”

when lydia killed valack: “that was iconic, but i’m still wondering how this man got out of this supernatural psychiatric prison and then somehow managed to run that same prison with the same staff. did no one think that was strange?”

on the sheriff: “he’s done some messed up stuff, but i stand by him. if there’s one true dilf in the show, it’s him, even more so than chris argent. which is probably more revealing of me than anything else.”

on parrish’s relationship with lydia: “i mean i definitely don’t like it. i guess mild props to him for keeping those sex dreams to himself. MAYBE that’s why he wanted to leave town? MAYBE we should give him some credit? but also i can’t blame lydia, i can’t say that if there was a hot older man in town who was simultaneously the lord of death and this guy destined to save the world that i wouldn’t fall for it.”

summing up his reaction to theo (at the end of 5b): “he’s just like really annoying and honestly i don’t think that he’s that compelling. it feels like every episode he comes on the show and approaches scott or one of his people and says “you really shouldn’t trust me but i know something you need to know” and then he betrays them and walks on screen with the dumbest look on his face.” 😪

on mason being the beast: “this was the first time i was right about something in this fucking show.”

“melissa is just trying to get fired at this point, but she continues to do what’s necessary.”

“i love that they manage to keep allison around in subtle but powerful ways.”

on marie-jeanne: “i don’t know how to describe her accent but it sounds like they were trying to go for all of them at once. but she was iconic and she should be back on the show. i was honestly hoping they would find a way to resurrect her to kill the beast again.”

on the dread doctors: “this was the fifth season in a row where there are villains impervious to anything right up until the moment where they need to die.”

he LOVED the sewer scenes where theo betrays deucalion and then scott, only to get his neck snapped by deucalion and find out that he’s been a double agent, only to have gerard interrupt and then get betrayed by his own son. “it’s like that meme of those spidermen pointing their fingers at each other.”

“but i loved when theo got his neck snapped.”

he’s PISSED at how lackluster kira’s send off was and that his theory about her being the real key to defeating the beast (not parrish) was wrong: “i don’t understand the entire buildup of her internal conflict looking back on it. they gave her all the pieces. she spends all season struggling to contain this fiery energy, they constantly mention it’s parrish which feels like a fakeout, and they sent her back to the skinwalkers to figure out how to help her friends. and then she comes back with some “secret power” just to send this one twink to hell? they did her so dirty.”

continued, because he needed to rant: “cause she left again! and in that episode everyone is like dying, so it’s like okay she’s coming back and she’s going to be the deus ex machina. but instead she comes back to send a teenager to hell? i’m just picturing her at shiprock like “okay how do we deal with the beast?” and the skinwalkers are just like “so you’re actually going to have nothing to do with that. but what you are going to do is send a teenager to hell so that we can torture him.” what was even their connection to theo???”

on theo’s punishment: “that was dark. it really was strange how kira’s final act on the show was to say “your sister wants to see you” and then call up an ostensibly undead version of his sister who pulls him into this realm that we’ve never heard of before as he begs for his life. i would say that was a tonal shift.”

Mega Man X5 Ending (X)

And we are at the endgame!

X and Zero fight!

And it’s dumb as hell!

This is where the plot really starts to crumble, if you remember up until now the games have teased us with the fated confrontation between X and Zero, presenting it as a tragic battle that neither will want but are destined to partake in due to the fate imparted upon them by their respective creators.

And it results in a fight whose motivation is on par with Sonic Heroes’ team battles.

Oh sure, if you get the bad ending you get something much better: Zero gets infected and turns evil and X is forced to put him down. That’s what the series had been building up to! But the bad ending is not-canon! What is canon is X and Zero pointing fingers at each others yelling “Get back to base you might be infected!” “No YOU get back to base YOU might be infected!”.

Although regardless the fight itself is pretty damn lame, too repetitive, not hard enough given the context, it has an absolutely iconic battle theme but the fight will most likely be over before it has a chance to finish.

And then there’s the last level

You may have noticed this video being particularily longer than usual. That’s because most of it is dedicated to the boss rush. The second worst boss rush in the franchise IMO, specifically because the game gives the bosses WAY bigger healthbars than before and even the weaknesses are no longer as effective and so it just draaaaaaaaaags ooooooon and oooooooon....

And finally we face Sigma

People always bitch about X3 Sigma but I’ve always had more issues with him here, specifically his second phase.

He has a shitton of attacks that hurt like hell but there’s not enough room to comfortably dodge them, and in generally it just feels very cheap to me

One thing that has always bugged me is that you can actually hit his forehead jem twice in a row....despite it flashing white which usually indicates that the boss is using I-frames. For the longest times I acted under this assumption, which basically meant I was taking double the amount of time to beat this asshole than what was intended.

Also he has the same Sub-Tank related issue as in X4, only it’s worse here because he’s harder.

Oh and Sigma kinda sorta was supposed to have died permanently here. You wouldn’t have figured this out just by looking at the ending since it’s treated not all that differently than every other Sigma death, but after beating Dark Dizzy Alia mentions that, as a consequence of having spread the virus (which his consciousness is strictly tied to) so much throughout the Earth, it may now be too strenuous for him to resurrect if he were to die again.

I can accept the logic, but why put this very important piece of information in a random post-battle piece of dialogue against a random boss? I know nobody likes Sigma, feeling’s mutual there, but he’s the main goddamn villain! His whole stick is that he never dies, you’d think the game would put much more emphasis on the fact that this is his last gamble, given that this game was supposed to be the grand finale!

This is actually the main reason why I’m kinda glad the X series continued in a way. Yeah what’s waiting next is....not good at all, but this stuff is so anti-climatic and so rushed and stithed together it just doesn’t feel like a proper ending.

Make no mistake: no X game has a good plot. The X series was Mega Man’s first attempt at “darker” storytelling and it shows, since it does just about everything wrong in some really amatuerish ways, just flinging concepts and ideas at the wall hoping they’ll stick execution be damned.

But at the very least up until now I’ve been able to ignore it partly due to the games’ plots being rather minimal but also the game aspects of them being pretty damn solid.

X5 is kinda stretching it on both fronts, and as a supposed ending to a series I would expect something more from it...but it’s not the case.

I heard that Inafune had a really hands off approach with this game, really only giving general instructions to the team, telling them to give it a sense of finality and then presumably going off to work on other stuff, I’m guessing Legends 2 (which came out the same year) and the upcoming Zero series. And unless I’ve missed something this seem to me like a really stupid thing by Inafune, I know he was working on multiple projects at once, but you’d think he’d put some extra effort on the first ever ending to the first ever Mega Man subseries (except Classic).

Well.... I guess there’s only one thing left for me to do now...

It pains me to say it, but it has to be done...

I can try to waste time as much as I want but it would only delay the inevitable....

Let’s prepare for some pain

i think as an artist advertising your services on your blog it's more than a little disingenuous to use someone else's art as your icon that's of a wildly different style and quality from your work

truly this feels like one of the most bizarre asks ive ever gotten but like...? like many people i use art from media properties i enjoy as an icon, this is art done by the artist for villains are destined to die and like you noted its. a wildly different style than my art, which is pinned in my main commission post, is on display on my ko-fi, etc. my intent is not to trick anyone into thinking i drew this, my examples are everywhere on my blog and i would assume and hope that commissioners would look at those instead of squinting at my icon and assuming its my art when many artists use things other than their art for icons (especially for personal blogs and twitters, which this is-- granted i only have an art twitter and not an art tumblr but)

i really dont think people are in any danger of misinterpreting me as being the artist of popular series villains are destined to die because i happen to also be an artist with a commissions post which is pinned and links to other examples of my art that looks nothing like the art in my icon, though if they do im happy to clear that up. i do not think this is a real problem that most of my clients go through though idk what to tell you

Each time Callisto asked Penelope to give him her hand, and she did without thinking twice: a parallelism of the same occurrence over the chapters

It never failed to amaze me how quick Penelope was on giving her hand to Callisto when he asked her to, despite her viewing him as *the most dangerous one* out of the male-leads.

And in turn, how Callisto wanted to hold her hand to ensure her safety better each time they were in some precarious circumstances.

The scene in the newest chapter looked very familiar to me, so I went back and did some digging. Lo and behold I found the different instances where these happened.

₊❏❜⋮ The first time takes place during the hunting tournament, in chapter 69.

After Callisto gives Penelope his cape (most likely taking subtle notice of her visible apprehension of rain), he suggest they both go back to deliver the head of the bear to the guards (proof of her hunt), and to avoid stumbling upon other dangerous animals while she was in the zone reserved for larger and dangerous animals.

However, Penelope fails to take Callisto's hand in time, and the moment is short-lived when the two are chased down by assassins sent for the Crown Prince’s life once again.

₊❏❜⋮ The second time around is still during the hunting competition (chapters 76), while both of them found shelter in a cave far from the hunting grounds, after falling off a cliff at the end of the battle against the assassins.

Later on, deciding to explore further, they come across a powerful breeze that has some sort of magic phenomenon as a source, which Callisto is very weary of.

His senses are on high alert and Penelope is with him, it’s a possibility that whatever they might come across won’t be pretty. It is my understanding that he made it his responsibility to protect her for the moment, as the two might’ve grown closer thanks to the previous night’s interactions with some things being cleared out.

Even as they unravel the source of the wind currents, Callisto still tells Penelope to stand behind him as he takes care of the enchanted seal surrounding the skeleton of a long gone mage, who is holding a magic map, which will be very important later on as the story progresses.

₊❏❜⋮ The third time happens in the most recent release, chapter 116, taking place in the long awaited island arc.

Thanks to the copy he kept of the magic map they found in the cave, Callisto is able to locate Penelope and saves her just in time by aiding her in the defeat of a giant monster.

After Penelope takes care of Callisto’s injury and recovers from the shock, she questions him about his whereabouts and if he was indeed following her.

being the troll he is Callisto says it’s ‘classified information of the royal family’ and that he was monitoring the Archina and Tratan islands in search of suspicious activity caused by the Laila, and Penelope of course hardly believes the lies he’s spewing (ngl I enjoyed Callisto panicking).

When Penelope insists that he followed her, Callisto changes the subject quickly and instead says they should go and find the kidnapped children. As he steps on the corpse of the defeated beast he asks for her hand again and she does so without hesitation.

Penelope looses her balance momentarily and stumbles into Callisto who catches her. Stunned from the close proximity, she misses her chance to check his favorability again like it happened before in chapter 101/102 (where they were rudely interrupted).

The difference is that this time, Penelope becomes flustered because of her closeness to Callisto and not due to some third-party interference.

This part reminds us that from now onwards, Penelope will need to have some sort of physical contact with each of the male-leads to check their favorability, which will also cost either funds or reputation, the price will only increase with every time she checks each of the targets’ percentages.
