1. A popular football player has been detained in relation to a murder investigation after his missing girlfriend turned up dead.

3. Palm trees which are believed to be being commercially farmed have been found in the adjacency zone between Belize and Guatemala.

The bodies of a young mother and her two babies were found among the charred remains of a house on Antelope Street, Belize City.

The question of a programme for medicinal-use marijuana in Belize has been reportedly raised by the recent incident of illegal marijuana being supplied to school children.

The last lottery draw in Belize under the present arrangement will be on Sunday, April 30th. The Lotteries Committee has issued a notice informing all agents of Government Lotteries that as of May 2nd they are prohibited from selling Government Lotteries.  The release cautioned against the promotion or sale of any government lottery from that date onward without a valid licence. 

Police Constable Akeem Gamboa is the chief suspect in the case of the marijuana-laced candies supplied to school children in Belize and he has now been dismissed. The police have yet to determine whether their civilian exhibit keeper, detained earlier this week, will also face charges.

The drama surrounding the marijuana-laced candies that sent 18  schoolchildren and several adults to hospital this week continues unabated.

[Belizean] Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca, says that vendors who were in possession of the drug-tainted sweets should not be allowed to operate near schools. Yesterday, a school warden from St. Luke’s Methodist School alleged that the vendors sold the packets despite knowing they were laced with marijuana. The issue is being investigated by police to determine whether the persons should face criminal charges. However, there is the fact that the sweets were found at the dump among a gargantuan pile of trash and sold to children. Minister Fonseca says while he supports all local vendors, he believes these persons should be relocated.

Around 7 o’clock last night, police were called to a fire at the establishment and found two wooden and concrete structures wholly engulfed in flames. Fire personnel extinguished the blaze but not before it resulted in over 400 hundred thousand dollars in damages. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero, says the police have since launched an investigation into the fire and believe it resulted from arson.
