Dance With Me, My Darling
Veronica x Reader
Reader is Archie’s twin sister, and gets insecure about whether she’s good enough for her love. A/N- Sorry if this isn’t great, it’s my first published fic! Let me know if you would like any more of this pairing or my writing in general <3
“Y/N/N! Ronnie and Betty are here!” My brother, Archie, called through my door. I could feel his nervousness through his uneven knocking, and I wasn’t feeling more confident. I stood at my mirror in my little bedroom, desperately smoothing the non-existent wrinkles in the skirt of my black, velvet, halter-neck dress. The cut was beautiful; the hem reached just longer than my mid-thigh, the skirt was made of floaty tulle that curved gently out from my waist, and the neck stretched to almost my collarbone. It was sleeveless, soft, and just my style, and paired with white flowers tucked into the wrap-around half-up braid in my ginger hair and the matching black velvet heels that Veronica had pointed out for me last week in town, I could actually admit that I looked beautiful, despite all my issues with my body in the past.
“Y/N/N, come on!” Archie’s voice sounded more on edge by the minute.
“Okay, just give me a sec!” My voice sounded just as tense as my twin brother’s did. As I checked my dress for any crinkles for the thousandth time, I heard my bedroom door slowly creak open. Archie could tell that I sounded nervous- we’d always been close, and we’d grown to feel each other’s pain like it was our own.
“Wow,” Archie’s voice was gentler as he closed my door, “You look… wow.”
“Shut up.” I smile, turning away from the mirror to see my brother dressed to the nines in a flawless black tuxedo with a matching bow tie, undone and splayed over his collar, “You look okay too, I guess. What happened with your tie?”
Archie made a face. “Ha, ha. Dad’s busy in the garage, so he wouldn’t tie it for me. Help me?”
I walked over to Archie and began to weave his tie into the correct shape. “So, you’re going with Betty, huh?”
“Yeah. Jug didn’t want to go, so I said I’d keep her company. You know Jughead; dances aren’t really his thing.”
It was true- it was no secret between the five of us that our best friend, Jughead Jones, would much rather sit in Pop’s with a milkshake and his laptop and brood than be seen at a school dance. He loves Betty so much, but Betty understands not to push him out of his comfort zone, as we all do.
“What a hero.” I smiled, tugging the fabric of Archie’s tie through a loop, but I could tell that he could see right through my weak façade. Archie frowned.
“What’s wrong, Y/N/N? Tell me. Is it Veronica? What-”
“Nothing’s wrong with Veronica,” I said, frowning a little myself as I try to remember the next step of tying the bow tie, “She’s perfect.”
“Then what’s got you so nervous? You’re my best friend and twin sister, Mia, I know when something’s wrong.”
Finishing the tie, I smoothed the bow and turned away, sitting on my bed with a sigh. “It’s just… I’ve never been to a dance with a girl before. What if everyone judges us? I know I shouldn’t worry about this, and I know I’ll be safe with Ronnie, but… you know what I mean, right?”
Archie smiled and came to sit beside me. “I do. If people judge you, Y/N/N, then that’s their problem, not yours. You’ve been with Veronica for six months, and people have been fine with it so far, right? People can see how much you love Veronica, and how much she loves you, just by looking at the two of you together. You know I love you both, and so does Betty and Jug and Kevin, so if anyone tries to get in the way of you two, they’ll have us to answer to.”
I looked up from my floorboards to Archie’s earnest eyes. I thanked God for my brother in that moment. “So you’ll be all big-brotherly and fight off anyone who hurts me?” I said, smiling.
“You bet I will. That’s if Veronica doesn’t get there first.” Archie grinned. I laughed a little at the thought, already feeling more relaxed- if it came down to it, Ronnie would probably be the first person to skewer the person who hurt me with her icy dagger.
“Thanks, Arch.”
“No problem. Now, let’s not keep our dates waiting. You ready?”
“Yeah, I think so.” I took a deep breath, and Archie extended his hand to help me stand up. Just before we left my room, Archie squeezed my hand and smiled, a hint of pride in his eyes.
“You really do look beautiful, Y/N/N.”
“Thank you, Archie.” I said, smiling and nudging his broad shoulder. Feeling completely relaxed, I nodded at my brother, who took my arm through his and led me out of my room, letting me stop to grab my black bag with my phone and keys in it on the way out. Downstairs, we could hear the mumble of chatter between Betty and Veronica. I smiled at the thought of my girlfriend, clad in a stunning dress, probably, waiting for me, and I felt a lot surer of myself. Archie slowly led us down the creaky wooden staircase, and once we reached the bottom, I looked into the kitchen and locked eyes with Veronica, and I suddenly felt at home. Her chocolate-brown eyes were wide as she took in my outfit, and I could feel a blush in my cheeks already. She looked gorgeous, as always, in a black sleeveless dress with a lace back, which had a long cut-out that stretched from her neck to the small of her back. Betty looked adorable in a pale blue dress that complimented her pale skin perfectly.
Betty whistled as Archie let go of my arm and followed me down the hallway towards the kitchen. I let my hips sway a little, mainly for Veronica’s benefit, and I watched as she flickered her eyebrows, knowing the game I was playing.
“Betty, you look amazing!” I greeted my best friend, leaning in to squeeze her tightly. She squeezed me back and grinned as we pulled away.
“So do you, that dress is incredible!” Betty opined, softly touching the tulle of my skirt.
“Thanks, Bets.” I smiled, before turning to Veronica. We were pretty much the same height on a regular, converse-wearing day; I stood at 5’ 3” (almost 4), with her an inch shorter, but with the help of both of us wearing heels (mine were three inches, hers must have been around the same) she stood at exactly my height, which I loved.
“Hey, Ronnie.”
“Hey.” She smirked, standing up straight and taking my hand. She pulled me close and pressed a sweet kiss on my cheek, which made a thousand butterflies all flap their wings at once in my stomach. “Shall we get going, my loves? The music will not wait!”
“Okay, Ronnie,” Archie laughed, tucking his keys inside his tux pocket, “Who’s driving?”
***
A little while later, Ronnie and I were sitting in a couple of chairs at the side of the room, faces flushed after dancing and jumping around with Arch and Betty for a fair amount of time. My feet were aching, and my head was pounding, but I was with Ronnie, so everything was okay. I’d stopped caring what our classmates were thinking of us a long time ago.
Veronica was sitting with her head on my shoulder, my arm around her waist, just catching her breath back. My legs were crossed, and every so often, I would kiss the top of her head or stroke her hair away from her eyes, while my hand traced patterns into her side. She smelled of chocolate and expensive Miss Dior perfume, and to me, the smell was more intoxicating than any alcohol, and it comforted me. We were content this way, but then, the DJ spoke up to announce a new song, a slower, more romantic melody that Veronica and I knew very well- ‘All Through the Night’ by Sleeping at Last. It was our song. Veronica had had it playing in her room the night of our first kiss- we had just got back from the closing night of the Twilight Drive-In, and Veronica had invited me in for coffee, and… well, you can guess the rest.
I smiled into Veronica’s hair as I heard the familiar melody, and Ronnie lifted her head from my shoulder as she heard it too. Her eyes were alight, and I knew she was about to ask me something that I wouldn’t be able to say to no to.
“Dance with me?”
“I’m tired, Ronnie…” I pretended to be aloof, as if I had a choice, but my heart was burning with the urge to have her hold me in her arms. Veronica stood up and took my hands, dragging me with her, and gave me her most adorable puppy-dog eyes. Her dark eyelashes fluttered a little, a pout on her lips, and I knew that I wouldn’t be able to resist her eyes for much longer.
Veronica pulled me close, taking my other hand and linking our fingers. Her voice was soft and alluring as she whispered to me, “Dance with me, my darling.”
Despite the music, I could hear her loud and clear, as though she had spoken the words right in my ear. My heart ached for her, but I was too drawn into her trap to speak, so I just nodded and smiled. Veronica squeezed my hands, a blinding smile illuminating her face in the dimness of the gym, and turned to lead me into the crowd of swaying couples. Being Veronica, she guided us into the centre of the room, before she spun back around and faced me, her smile as bright as ever. I lifted her hands and placed them around my neck, and her touch sent a tidal wave of sparks through my skin. She exhaled, and I knew that she felt more at ease too. She wrapped her arms further around my neck until she could touch her elbows, which drew us closer together. As I slipped my arms around her waist, I could feel her body relaxing into my touch, and I smiled at how easy, how natural this all felt. I held her against me, squeezing her so I could touch my elbows too. Veronica started to sway us gently to the beat of the song, her eyes still locked with mine. She leaned closer still to me and rested her chin on my bare shoulder.
“This is our song…” Veronica murmured into my ear, “Do you remember that night?“
“Of course, I’ll never forget it,” I answered in a heartbeat, “It was the best night of my life.”
“Mine too,” Ronnie lightly her brushed her lips over my shoulder, before pulling away a little and looking back in my eyes, “You looked… so beautiful.”
“I’m pretty sure I was in your pyjamas, wearing my glasses, and had coffee stains on my shirt.” I laughed, remember the image of us sitting on Veronica’s bed as though it was happening right in front of me. When we had finished our coffee, Veronica offered to let me stay the night, and she had lent me a pair of blue plaid shorts and an oversized grey sweater that had the words, my heart lies in New York city printed on it in curling cursive.
Veronica seemed to remember too; she smiled and let her eyes smile too. “I know. I said you looked beautiful.”
I blushed, and Veronica let one of her hands slide down to cup my cheek, her thumb grazing over my cheekbone. “You still can’t take a compliment, can you?”
“Not while I’m in love with the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen in my life. She overpowers every compliment I could ever receive.”
Veronica raised an eyebrow, testing my reaction. “In love with, you say? Do I know her?”
“Maybe,” I smirked, as I twirled us around to the music, making her squeal at the sudden change in speed and cling to my neck, locking her other hand back with the first, “She moved here from New York. She has the most incredible dress sense, and she’s trying her damn best to be kind and caring and the most amazing friend in the world. She’s funny and talented and can do pretty much everything. Oh, and she’s beautiful. Like, insanely, unbelievably, irresistibly beautiful. She’s pretty much stolen my heart, and it doesn’t look like she’s giving it back any time soon.”
Veronica’s eyes were wide and watering, and her face was flushed once more. She laughed breathily, and reached up to touch her forehead to mine. “I love you, so much, Y/N Andrews.”
“Not as much as I love you, Veronica Lodge.” Just as the words left my mouth, I heard the part of the song that I remembered her kissing me for the first time at, like a wave of déjà vu, and I looked down into her bright, fluttering eyes. She blinked to keep the tears away, but they fell regardless, and I caught them with my thumbs as I reached up and held her face in my hands.
“I think I remember that night a little better… I think it went a little something like this…” I whispered, leaning in and pressing my lips to hers, bringing her face up to mine, and the whole world just fell away. She responded immediately, kissing me back with as much as love and feeling as she could pour into it, and I smiled and giggled into the kiss. Veronica’s arms held us close together, and the force of our kiss caused Veronica to bend backwards and pop her foot, just like the kisses in the movies. I broke the kiss and laughed at how tightly she’s clinging to me, and I let her arch her back and roll her body back up to a standing position. By the time she faced me again, she was laughing too, and I took her hand, spinning her out and back into me. We spent the rest of the song laughing and smiling and crying happy tears in the whirlwind of our song, and in that moment, I realised that I’d never loved Veronica Lodge more.

accidents happen // vl
Tumblr media
requested by anonymous: veronicaxreader - reader somehow gets injured really badly and Veronica worries for her life and looks after her
Driving through the streets if Riverdale during a wind storm was not ideal, but here you were. Cruising along the streets, paying extra attention to get to Veronica’s house. The things you do for that girl. You were coming up to a stop light, but of course the wind was so strong it blew the power out, so you stopped. Treating the non-working lights as if it were a four-way stop sign. You were about to go until you noticed a car coming from the side not bothering to stop so you waited. The last thing you remembered was the sound of metal crunching and tires screeching.
You woke up to the sound of someone shouting at you, “Can you hear me, miss?”
“Yeah, can you maybe stop yelling. You’re killing my head.” you reached up wincing slightly at throbbing pain that only got worse when you touched it.
The guy who was yelling a second ago let out a chuckle before advising you not to touch your head, “Do you feel pain anywhere else?” he asked.
“Just soreness but my head feels like it’s exploding.” you answered. He left for a second to grab another guy to help get you out without jostling you too much. While you waited you looked over at the passenger side where there was supposed to be another seat, only to find the door crunched in completely. Yikes you thought, what the hell happened?
The guy came back with someone else and they opened your door, helping you out and leading you over to the ambulance that was waiting. That’s when you realized you should probably call your mom and Veronica.
“Have you seen my phone?” you asked as you checked your pockets but didn’t feel it.
“It’s probably somewhere in your car. You can use mine to call whoever on our way to the hospital.” the EMT said handing you his cell phone. Immediately you called your mom, informing to your best knowledge of what happened. The details were still a bit fuzzy.
“Can you please call Veronica and bring her when you come? I can’t find my phone and i don’t remember her number.”
“Sure thing, sweetheart. See you soon.” you could tell she was worried out of her mind, but she wanted to stay as calm as possible. You knew your injuries weren’t too bad, but then again, you don’t remember what happened so there could literally be a list of things wrong.
You hung up and gave the phone back to the EMT and laid back on the bed, closing your eyes only hoping it would help calm the pain in your head.
“Don’t go falling asleep on me now. You most likely have a concussion.” the EMT said.
“Is that the worst thing that’s happened?” you asked.
“Other than some bruising and a few cuts from the glass, i’d say the concussion is definitely the worst injury for you.” he informed.
You stayed silent for the rest of the ambulance ride. The EMT cleaned up the blood that spilled from the cut on your forehead and stopped the bleeding. He kept telling you that the only thing you’d have to worry about it taking care of yourself, insurance and the cops would take care of everything else.
When you arrived at the hospital, you were wheeled into a room immediately and seconds later your mom and Veronica burst through the door.
“Oh thank god, you’re okay, honey.” your mom said rushing over to kiss your forehead. Veronica sat next to you in silence, grabbing your hand in hers and refusing to let go. Even when the doctor came in.
He ran a few tests and xrays to make sure there was nothing else wrong that you hadn’t seen or felt yet due to the adrenalen. Thankfully, the only thing you walked away with is a cut on your forehead and a concussion from hitting the wheel and the window during impact.
Sheriff Keller walked in after the doctor left to get all of your paperwork together for insurance and to call in the prescription he wanted you to take for your head.
“How are you feeling, y/n?” he asked.
“Good besides my head. Can you tell me what happened? I don’t really remember much.” you confessed.
“You stopped at the light because the power was out, i’m assuming you were also waiting for the idiot who wasn’t going to stop to pass but there was another car behind you who planned on not stopped either so when they rear ended you, your car went into the intersection and the car you were waiting for, hit your passenger side. Both cars were going over the speed limit as well, which is why your car got pushed into the intersection.”
“Oh my god, am i gonna get a ticket?” you rushed, eyes wide with panic.
“No, the car that rear ended you is at fault. You don’t have to worry about a thing. Their insurance will cover your medical bills. Unfortunately though, i’m positive your car is totaled.” he explained. You let out a sigh of relief when he told you you weren’t in trouble.
“Don’t worry about your car, dear. Your father and i will talk with Mr. Mantle tomorrow.” your mom told you patting your leg to tell you not to worry about anything. Your mom and Sheriff Keller left to get some coffee from the hospital cafeteria, leaving you and Veronica alone.
“You’ve been awful quiet this whole time, V.” you pointed out.
“I was freaking out when your mom called me. I thought you were dying. I don’t know what the hell i would’ve done if you did die. God, i was so worried about you.” words flew out of her mouth at a high speed as she got out everything that was running through her mind as she sat silent and listened to you and your mom talk to the doctor.
“I didn’t die and i’m not going to, V. it’s just a concussion. I’ll be good as new before you know it.”
“Still doesn’t stop me from worrying about you. I care so much about you that i called Kevin to tell his dad to arrest whoever hit you and cause the accident. Of course he told me that was possible because the guy wasn’t under the influence and no one died. He just wasn’t paying attention apparently. He did get a pretty hefty ticket though.” Veronica explained. You let out a chuckle thinking about her sassiness telling Kevin to have his dad arrest the guy for hitting you.
“Good to know you’ll go to those means to get back at anyone who does anything to me.” you laughed.
Soon your mom came back and told you the doctor said you were clear to leave and the three of you headed out. Veronica sat in the back seat, with your head in her lap while she played with your hair. Your mom offered for her to stay the night and Veronica quickly stated that she was going to regardless if she was invited or not, which made you and your mom chuckle.
You were going to be out of school for a couple of days until the headache went away and you got used to the medicine so everyday was an argument with you and Veronica. She refused to go to school, wanting nothing more than to just stay home with you and take care of you.
“Well then who’s going to bring me all of my assignments and well taken notes so i don’t have to read everything?” you asked.
“I’ll have Betty do it.” she answered quickly.
“Veronica, don’t be ridiculous, Betty and i only share two classes. You and i have literally the exact same schedule. I’m fine. Just go to school and come back after. I’m going to need your help with the work anyways.” you kissed her cheek before gently pushing her to the front door.
A couple hours later, you were sat on the couch watching the mindless kid shows they played during the weekday afternoon since there was nothing on. Suddenly a knock came from the front door and you got up to go open it. There stood Veronica with both hers and your bags on her shoulders with a shit eating grin on her face.
“What are you doing, V?” you asked.
“I twisted my ankle this morning at practice and i told the nurse i might have sprained it so she sent me home to go get it checked.” she said as she walked like there was absolutely nothing wrong with her ankle.
“But obviously there’s nothing wrong.” you said.
“What the nurse doesn’t know won’t hurt her. Besides, accidents happen.” she said with a shrug. You rolled your eyes before laughing and joining her on the couch, getting started on the stack of school work you had to finish and take back when you were ready to go back to school.

“y/n, you coming?” Betty tilted her head as you nervously waited outside Mr. Weatherbee’s office. You tucked your hair behind your ears and shook your head.
“I’m showing a new student around.” you explained, and you could see Betty’s surprised expression. “I don’t know why Weatherbee chose me, you’re a much better representative of the school-”
“y/n, stop.” Betty laughed, reaching out to grab your shoulders. “I’m sure the new girl will love you.”
You smiled gratefully at your best friend, and she smiled back.
“Well, I have to go.” Betty clapped her hands together, letting go of your shoulders. “I’ll see you at lunch?”
“Definitely, unless the new girl kidnaps me.” you joked, and Betty laughed. “You don’t think Archie and Kevin will mind if I bring her over, do you?”
“Of course they won’t.” Betty waved her hand. The both of you suddenly heard Weatherbee’s door open, and Betty gave you a quick thumbs up before sprinting away. Taking a deep breath, you turned around to meet the new girl, and you felt as if all the air was knocked out of your lungs.
She was gorgeous.
She had such a beautiful smile, which she was showing to you right now. She had wide, dark eyes which matched her shiny, dark hair. She was dressed stylishly, a dainty pearl necklace around her neck and she was wearing a plaid patterned dress.
“Veronica Lodge.” the girl introduced herself, and you snapped yourself out of your trance to shake her hand. “You must be y/n.”
“Y-yes.” you stammered, before quickly brushing your hair out of your face. Veronica smiled as she looked you up and down, and you shyly looked away.
“Well, are you going to tell me all the secrets of Riverdale High as we walk down it’s halls?” Veronica leaned closer to you, and you laughed shakily.
“Definitely!” you piped up, flushing slightly. Internally, you cursed yourself for getting flustered so easily, but the more Veronica watched you, the cuter she found you. “Um, follow me?”
“Lead the way, y/n.” Veronica grinned, and you smiled as you began to walk down the hallway. You liked the way your name sounded on her tongue, and you bit back a smile. Veronica leaned over to nudge you, and she smiled when she saw you flush again. She thought you looked cute when you were flustered.
“So, what kind of activities are there at this school?” Veronica asked, looking around. “And what’s there to do around here? It’s a pretty small town.”
“It is pretty small,” you agreed. “But if you find the right friends, you can make any situation fun.”
Veronica looked at you in surprise, and you paused, surprised at yourself. Veronica nodded slowly, her smile getting wider.
“Do you think that…” Veronica said slowly. “We could possibly be friends?”
“Yes!” you blurted, a little too quickly. You looked at Veronica, expecting her to change her mind, but she nodded enthusiastically.
“Awesome.” she giggled, looping her arm through yours. “Now come on, let’s finish this tour. We’ve barely made it down the hallway!”
Archie put down his tray as he slid onto the bench next to Betty, who was already at their usual table with Kevin. Looking around, Archie asked, “No y/n?”
“She’s with the new student.” Betty informed him, and Archie nodded.
“No less than Veronica Lodge.” Kevin smirked as he took a bite of his food. “Have you guys heard about her dad-”
“Guys!” you interrupting, shooting Kevin a look as you walked up to the table. “Meet Veronica!”
The two of you squeezed onto the bench with Kevin, and you could see Archie pause as he gaped at Veronica. You felt a small swell of jealousy in your chest, but quickly shook it off. You saw Betty smile warily at Veronica, whilst Kevin looked her up and down.
“This is Betty, Archie and Kevin.” you introduced everyone at table to Veronica, and Veronica grinned as she looked at everyone. “They’re my best friends.”
“Well, hope you have room for one more.” Veronica shrugged, and you beamed at her. She seemed like a very straightforward person, and you admired that about her.
“How are you finding Riverdale?” Archie asked, leaning forward.
“A little drab, to be honest.” she shrugged, looking around. “But, I mean, if I can find the right friends I can have fun anywhere, right?”
You looked up at her in surprise upon hearing her use your words, and she smiled at you knowingly. You quickly looked away, smiling shyly, and under the table, Veronica leaned her leg against yours. As Betty, Kevin and Archie began to talk about places in Riverdale to hang out, you leaned closer to her too.
“So…” you said slowly, as you and Veronica strolled out of school together. Betty and Kevin were staying behind for some extracurricular activities, whilst Archie had gone to Ms. Grundy. You and Veronica were alone, but not like either of you were complaining. “First day was okay?”
“I think we can agree it was a success.” Veronica nodded. “Didn’t have any embarrassing moments, met some new friends, and I found someone I’m interested in.”
You looked at her, your eyes wide. You quickly masked your surprise and nodded instead, clearing your throat.
“Oh, really?” you managed to stammer out, and Veronica nodded, a confident smile on her face.
“I was actually planning on asking them out today.” Veronica continued, and you kept nodding.
“Uh, was it Archie?” you asked, disappointment filling your chest. “I could help you find him if you want.”
“Oh, God no.” Veronica laughed. “Don’t get me wrong, he is cute, but I think I’ve found someone cuter.”
Turning to face you, Veronica stopped in the street and you hesitantly stopped too. She had a small smirk on her face as she took a step towards you, raising her eyebrows.
“Wanna go out on a date, y/n?” she asked, and you gaped at her. “My mom says Pop’s is a chill place to hang out.”
“M-me?” you stammered, and Veronica laughed and looped her arm through yours.
“Yes, you.” she confirmed. “You’re adorable.”
“I’d love to go out on a date!” you exclaimed, still not believing your luck.
“Well, good, because I was just planning on taking you out anyway.” Veronica laughed, and you finally relaxed and laughed. “That settles it, then. Today was definitely a success.”
Arm in arm, the two of you strolled towards Pop’s, the both of you beaming in excitement as to what this relationship could turn into.

Lodge Family Values (Sister!VeronicaxReader)
💄💅🏼
“Quality always.”
That’s what you, your mother, and your sister Veronica said as you arrived at your new home.
After your dad was arrested, your mom decided it would be best for you girls to start somewhere fresh. So, she chose the town she grew up in: Riverdale. Here, you would be starting your senior year at Riverdale High, a major difference from your old school in New York.
Straightening your pearl necklace, you followed your family into the Pembrooke, the only piece of property in your mom’s name and not your dad’s.
After greeting a man named Smithers, your mom sent you and Veronica to go get food from a place called Pop’s Chock-lit Shop. You sighed as you started up the car.
“You okay, Y/N?”, your sister asked.
“Are you?”
She sighed. “It’s a big change, leaving New York. But this is my chance to be a new person. You know how bitchy I used to be. I don’t want to be her anymore.”
“I get it. We both were awful people. But I just want daddy to get out of jail so we can be those people in the Big Apple.”
She smiled. “You miss the bagels, don’t you?”
“There were rainbow bagels! RAINBOW. There’s just no competition.”
“I don’t know, sis. This Chock-lit Shop sounds pretty good. They may not have bagels, but mom says they have some killer burgers.”
You park the car in front of the dinner and you and Ronnie step out, straightening your cloaks. While she had on a black cloak, you opted for a dark red.
As you walked inside, it was as if everything was in slow motion. Veronica immediately locked eyes with a boy with fiery red hair and a strong build. You snickered as you noticed the two of them.
“Go talk to him, puppy eyes,” you whispered to Ronnie, looping your arm through hers and dragging her towards the booth he sat at. He was with a girl with blonde hair that was pulled back into a seemingly tight ponytail.
“Hi, we called in an order for Lodge,” you explained to a man (Pop, maybe?) walking past you.
“It’ll be a minute,” he explained. “You gotta wait.”
You nodded and turned your attention to your sister with the boy and girl.
“How are the onion rings here?”, she asked.
“Amazing,” the boy replied. He looked in awe of Veronica and you wondered if this could blossom into something more?
She nodded and called out, “Can we get an order of onion rings with that?”
“Coming right up!”
She turned her attention back to them. “My sister and I just moved here with our mom, so…”
“From where?”, the boy questioned.
“New York.”
“Wow.”
They looked at each other for a few beats before you cleared your throat.
“So do you guys go to Riverdale High?” They couldn’t be older than 16. Sophomores, maybe?
“Yea, we’re sophomores.”
“We do. Both of us. Together.”
The boy and girl spoke at the same time, and you could clearly see how annoyed the girl looked.
You just smiled. “Us too. I’m starting as a senior and my baby sister is a sophomore as well.”
Veronica shot you a look before saying, “Well, I’m filled with dread.”
“Why is that?”, the boy questioned.
“Are you familiar with the works of Truman Capote? I’m Breakfast at Tiffany’s but this place is strictly In Cold Blood.”
The four of you laughed (well, in the blonde girl’s case, she shot the redhead a look).
You shake the redhead’s hand. “I’m Y/N Lodge.”
Ronnie holds out her hand to the boy. “Veronica Lodge.”
“Archie Andrews.” He gestures to the blonde. “And this is Betty Cooper.”
Betty Cooper. Why was that name familiar?
“Wait, are you-”
“Supposed to give you your tour tomorrow? Yes.” She nods with a smile on her face. “I’m your peer mentor.”
“Betty is short for Elizabeth, right?”, you questioned. “I’ve always adored the name. It reminds me of Elizabeth Schuyler. She’s been an icon of mine since forever. Alongside Toni Morrison, of course.”
“Wait, you love Toni Morrison? She’s like my literary hero!”
“Mine too! I met her back in New York once and she was just an amazing person!”
“I interned for her over the summer!”
“Shut up! Lucky!”
You and Betty laughed. It seemed like you could get along with this blondie. “Is it alright if I call you Eliza instead of Betty? It’s a force of habit for anyone named Elizabeth.”
“It’s totally fine. I like Eliza.”
“Do you two want to join us?”, Archie asked, still fixated on Ronnie. “Hey, maybe we could un-fill you with dread.”
“Our mom’s waiting for us,” she replied. “But, to be continued.”
You all share a smile before walking away with your sister, grabbing and paying for your food on the way out.
You climb into the driver’s seat. “Archie Andrews,” you say out loud. “He couldn’t take his eyes off of you.”
Veronica rolled her eyes and laughed. “Just drive, Toni Morrison!”
“Whatever you say, Little Miss I’m Filled With Dread.”
You took off for your new home, the Pembrooke. The smell of burgers and onion rings wafted throughout the car. You grabbed your sister’s hand and drove with your left one for the entire ride home. Only one thought formed in your mind:
Maybe it won’t be so bad here.

———————–
On this particular Friday night, our little group of friends- including Archie, Betty, Kevin, and Jughead (who was working in the booth) plus Veronica and I- had decided to see a scary movie at the drive-in. Once the action started, Veronica snuggled up to me, saying things like “**I swear, I’m not scared,**” the whole time. I can’t lie, it was pretty adorable. Little did she know, though, the plan we had in store for her.
After the movie ended, Veronica and I headed back to her place to hang out for a little while. “Can you lock the door?” she asks me as we step inside.
“Sure,” I tell her, but I purposefully leave it unlocked.
Once we’ve changed into our pajamas, we make some popcorn and settle down on the couch to watch whatever shows are on TV this late. But then, Veronica sights straight up, and says, “**I heard a noise.**”
I realize that the plan must be starting. “I didn’t hear anything,” I tell her. “You’re probably just paranoid because of that movie.”
She glares at me. “I am not paranoid, Y/N,” she says sternly. “I know I heard something. It almost sounded like the door…” she trails off, her face going white.
“But your mom won’t be home for another few hours,” I tell her.
“Exactly,” she whispers. Then she gets up, grabbing my hand. “Come on,” she drags me, still whispering.
“Where are we going?” I ask, desperately trying to contain my laughter. This plan is working perfectly.
“I want to see if…” but she doesn’t finish that sentence, stopping dead in her tracks when she sees the door wide open. “Y/N…” she whispers, gripping my hand so hard that I think it might break. I prepare myself for the final part of the plan.
Suddenly, people behind us are yelling, shattering the thick layer of silence that had been hanging in the air. Veronica screams so loudly, ripping her hand away from mine to cover her eyes. She’s still screaming when the yelling stops- the yelling meant to scare her. The plan has worked perfectly. I double over in laughter, my stomach muscles already sore. It only gets worse when I see our friends on the ground too, gripping their sides, laughing themselves to tears. “Wait a second, what’s going on here?” Veronica asks, uncovering her eyes. She looks around at all of us, laughing on her floor, and she puts the pieces together. “You guys broke into my house to scare me?” she screeches.
Once I manage to catch my breath, I tell her, “It’s not exactly breaking in if I left the door unlocked for them.” Then I explain the plan. How I wanted to scare her after the scary movie, but I didn’t know how, so we came up with a plan for Archie, Betty, Kevin and Jughead to sneak in and scare her.
She just sighs in defeat and begins to laugh. “I have to hand it to you guys,” she says, “that was pretty good.” Then she asks, “Who’s idea was it?”
“Mine,” I say, lifting myself off the floor and walking over to her. “And it was so worth it.”
She rolls her eyes and laughs, wrapping her arms around my waist and leaning her head on my shoulder.
“Does this mean you’re not mad?” I ask hopefully.
She pulls back to look me in the eyes. “Not mad,” she says with a smirk. “But vengeful.”
I just laugh and press a kiss to her soft lips. “Bring it on.”
