The Mirror Earth Issue

This is a general overview of the main conflict of the VALORANT universe - the fact that there’s another, nearly identical Earth that has appeared and has access to our “original” Earth, causing uh. A couple problems to say the least. For now and always, any part of this lore that is currently *speculation* will be marked as such, and should not be taken as explicitly canon. Sources will be provided. Let’s get into it 😎

Lore Table of Contents -- Disclaimer / Background (please read)

For a currently-unknown reason, there is a slightly-alternate-timeline Earth that exists (1) and, through the use of teleportation (2)(3), is able to reach the original Earth.

This, in game, explains why there are exact copies of the agents on both the attacking and defending sides. Except for Pearl, which exists on the mirror Earth, the attackers on each map are from Mirror Earth; the defenders are from Original Earth. On Pearl, these roles are reversed.

There is not yet an explanation of why the timelines split. According to the narrative developers, *there was an event that sparked this*(4), though the details are yet unknown.

The timeline mural in the map Pearl may have answers to this, but we do not yet have enough context to confidently pin the splitting of earths on a known event (5).

As the two Earths interacted more, they eventually delineated themselves as Alpha and Omega Earth. Alpha is the “original” Earth, while Omega is the mirror Earth. This can be surmised for many reasons, but the easiest is the appearance of Kingdom logos on the corresponding signs in the map Fracture. Alpha has the solid Kingdom Corporation logo, while Omega has the more segmented Kingdom Industries logo. Kingdom Corporation only exists on the original world, while Kingdom Industries only exists in the mirror world (6)(7).

From here on I will be referring to the two Earths as “Alpha” and “Omega.”

Unfortunately, unlike Alpha, Omega is on the brink of total climate collapse (8), plunging some cities like Lisbon, Portugal completely underwater under rising tides (9).

Not only at the brink of climate collapse, apparently other parts of Omega are dealing with a not-so-stable reality. Besides the obvious “trans-dimensional dust” destabilized reality both visible and referenced in Pearl (10)(11), Kingdom Industries is apparently trying to lead “reality restoration projects,”(12)(13) and there is apparently a “storm of realities” happening in Omega India (14)

The central conflict that drives the gameplay, mostly, is that Omega is trying to steal resources from Alpha. Namely, an ore called radianite. This radianite not only provides a power source to over 3/4 of the Alpha world, but also is the catalyst for their intense technological advancements (15: Duality cinematic). Alpha has a lot of reason, therefore, to want to protect their radianite.

In order for Omega to obtain Alpha’s radianite in the first place, Omega Killjoy developed a tool called the “spike,” (16) which creates a small, centralized teleport that only affects radianite. It draws up radianite from the area and teleports it back to Omega (17), with the unfortunate side effect of a pretty sizeable explosion (18). The prototype version of this tool had a much more devastating explosion, causing Alpha Venice, Italy’s *reality to destabilize*. This directly correlates to a large section of the city suddenly lifting into the air (19). This floating section of Venice is the in-game map of Ascent, as well as the practice range (20)(21).

While originally believed to be attacking and stealing radianite for greed, or perhaps, worse, a weapon to attack Alpha with (22), Omega is, in reality, stealing Alpha’s radianite to keep its people alive. On a recon mission to Omega, Alpha Killjoy reveals that the radianite being stolen from them is being put directly into the life support system allowing the citizens of Pearl to survive under the ocean (23).

*There was once an attempt to solve these issues amicably*, in the Everett-Linde research facility somewhat outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Alpha Earth. Among other research projects, the scientists at the facility from both Alpha and Omega were working together to develop a Large Radian Collider (LRC) *which would, presumably, solve Omega’s desperate energy problem* (24). However, on the last day of the project, *during the opening ceremony*, the reactor was sabotaged (25). The ensuing reactor explosion killed countless scientists (26), *completely halted the progress of helping Omega, and more than likely soured relations between Alpha and Omega even further*. This facility, now abandoned, is the in-game map of Fracture.

As the lore stands now, Alpha is now gaining traction in this war having brought the battle to Omega’s turf, but they are now faced with the moral dilemma of denying a whole city (and maybe world) of its life support.
