No one has ever witnessed Vaeltan and Vaepossum within the same observable space at the same observable time.
Reports stating otherwise have since been proven to be false, either a mundane Virginia Opossum in the general vicinity of Vaeltan or Vaepossum in the vicinity of a bald man measuring approx. 5′6′‘ in height.
It is uncertain if the two are the same being shapeshifting back and forth or two completely separate beings.
The current leading hypothesis is as follows: they are distinct beings but in the Schrodinger-esque sense that they cannot exist simultaneously within the same observable spacetime.
Attempting to observe the two simultaneously is thus highly unadvised.

(A wild Vaepossum appears!)
A small furry creature - inexplicably, he has draconic eyes and wears a badlands headband - wanders up to Arikos, long triangular snout nosing around for snacks.
He looks hungry...
Upon seeing the creature with some surprisingly familiar features, Arikos can't help but flash a smile.
"Well, hello there fuzzy little friend-brother! Let's see, what have I got..."
Eventually Arikos fishes out some Rowa resin candies, and kneels down and offers them while giving the odd possum a pat and scritch under the chin.

He looks hungry...
Fyra is used to weird little creatures sniffing at her feet, given her adopted son. She crouches down to look at the odd possum, reaching into her pack to pull out some cured meat.
"Want a treat?"

He looks hungry...
At first she's startled by the creature, Serosh stirring a bit in response. But then she takes note of the doofy looking eyes, slowly kneeling down and holding her hand out for it to sniff.
"... Hel-lo? She asks, softly, soon finding some jerky and crab meat she bought from old Boggart and offering it to the wee beastie. "Nomnom...?"

He looks hungry...
"hmm?"
Taking notice of the little fellow. He smells like a possum...but an odd smelling possum. Also what's with the head band?
She was sitting under a tree, in the shade. Nouma was eating a loaf of bread. Taking a qaurter off.
"Want some bread little guy?"

A third stuffed animal is handed to him, to join the crab and sheep - a possum with a pointed nose, button eyes, and a long tail.
"Look at this creature!"
His arms are getting full, but he hugs it all the same.
"I can't explain why, but I understand this little guy, y'know?"
