“  𝐰𝐞'𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝. ”  ⋰ old valyria verse.
This verse draws inspirations from historical influences like ancient Rome, Pompeii, and adaptions of Spartacus, Gladiator, and the stories of Atlantis. This verse contains triggers of sexual abuse, slavery, and all around gore and violence. Credit also to @killthebxy for his excessive world building with me.
Twelve years before the Doom, Lord Aenar Targaryen’s maiden daughter, Daenys the Dreamer, had a powerful prophetic dream along with visions that Valyria would be destroyed. Her father did not believe his daughter, and as such, did not leave for Dragonstone, remaining within their homeland, and continuing their family line there. Within this particular verse, Aerys was brother to Aenar, in order to make the timeline of the family work appropriately.
The Targaryens in this verse have worked their way up slightly on the social ladder than they were in canon, because of the extra time they’ve had within Valyria. They possess a moderate degree of wealth and prestige, and though they do not possess any dragons of their own specifically, they have poured substantial wealth into society, and have a reputation for their investment endeavours. As part of that, Daenerys has been betrothed to one of the wealthiest men within Valyria.
In most verses, her default betrothal is to a man named Daemar, who is a cruel man who owns a ludus of gladiators, brought for entertainment in arenas within Valyria. He owns several dragons – one of whom is Balerion – and is known for his brutal treatment of the creatures. Daemar is an abusive man who believes he has no need to be kind to his wife, as he practically purchased her, and gives her very little autonomy within the household. This is up for negotiation in threads – I’m fine with changing who she’s betrothed to, or having no betrothal at all, but this would require additional plotting.
Valyrians in general are prone to practices she loathes. Daenerys hates the idea of slavery, and all it stands for. She does not condone the fighting pits. And above all else, she would never even consider harming a dragon with whips, or controlling them with a horn. She is the only Targaryen who seems to have a distinct bond with them based on a more emotional level, and as such, will never resort to methods of control. The dragon she bonds with in default canon is Balerion, who ultimately saves her from the Doom of Valyria. Bonding with him is a surprise, given he’s not been able to be tamed thus far.
Personality wise, she is much like Daenerys in the start of canon. Gentle, yet timid, and at the mercy of her family - but with an inner strength that grows more and more as time goes on. Flashes of the dragon can be seen from time to time.

PLOTTED STARTER WITH @killthebxy
SHE WAS CONVINCED that there weren’t things her husband could do worse than what he had done, and yet already she had been wrong. Their wedding night had redefined the definition of brutality for her – and indeed, every night since then – leaving porcelain curves decorated with bruises and bitemarks alike, concealed in some form by layers of silks and fabrics to represent the luxury they were both all too used to by now. Indeed, the very appearance of a happy couple mattered more to her husband than their own marriage itself did; and at this stage, the beauty was convinced her husband cared naught about anything but using her in an attempt to bear a child to continue the poison in his blood. It terrified her, day by day, that she might truly bear a child to this man – as much as she craved bringing a babe into this world, or being a mother, there was nothing worse she could think of than bearing one to this man. And yet as cruel as he was, he surprised her with new horrors by the day, making her think the day prior had truly never been as bad as she thought. Day by day, worse and worse.
But there was nothing quite so bad as when he fixated on the person she truly cared for.
Amethyst hues raked over that stronger frame, already braced for a fight at the command of the cruel man he called Master, a poor excuse for a living and breathing creature who relished his power over others all too much. How long had it been, since that first night she’d gone to him? Stolen moments between them – small, by nature, otherwise they would be caught, but enough that he’d somehow managed to steal her heart in the meantime, standing before them all without even a shred of fear. No, she realised then, he’d never show it even if it thrilled through every inch of him; he relished in the glory of the fight, even if that knowledge burned her to consider. After all, this was just entertainment for the highest bidder, was it not? And yet, it wasn’t even a sanctioned fight that stood before them all today – this was just pure bloodsport.

Nothing would be gained from this fight, but for reputation alone.
“My love, is this not wasteful? Your greatest champion, in an alley brawl?” Voice soft, daring to speak with the most gentle of touches to his wrist, amethyst hues flickered to cruel gaze – but even she could see the trepidation there, the reluctance, and that frightened her. The silent admission that he’d bitten off too much, and had lost all control; that meant there would be no calling this off. Fear flashed through her then, as the Targaryen turned her head to allow her gaze a simple onceover of the champion once more – Valyria’s greatest fighter, so it seemed, condemned to be thrown into the viper’s pit.
“Did you forget something, Daemar? Where is his blindfold?”
Oh, she was sure those words made her heart stop.

ft. @killthebxy as Jon Snow ( and also a large part of the world building attached to this story, particularly when it comes to lacing in Roman history ).
