In the Ballad of Lost Hollow there are so many tragic romances and people separated from their loved ones. In the fake backstories Lupe sacrifices herself for Hank, Henry's boyfriend leaves him, Helen is separated from her mother and sister who join the carnival. Also the nature of the cabaret is that they're separated from everyone else. Shira and Helen are actually separated as well. Raven and Lloyd are separated, Mary lost her husband and children. And in this narrative that is so hostile to lovers (both the narrative narrative and the overall narrative of Lost Hollow) Helen and Han still fall in love. But it's so short lived. They fall victim to the same fate as all the over lovers. They never even got to have a relationship before Helen sacrificed herself

i love that in see our show, a song about raven's objectifying affection for helen, helen doesn't get a word. even though in the text its clear at the end theres a conversation between raven and helen, we as the audience don't hear what she says. cuz we're experiencing it through raven's pov, and its not like raven actually cares about helen's thoughts feelings and words besides his own reaction to them

The fact that the AIs brought Lloyd in as a consultant for the Weird West Cabaret really puts things in a new perspective. For one thing, we can safely say that Henry's backstory wasn't homophobic since it was made up by Lloyd, a gay man (do you think Mary and the other AIs were creative enough for that? Please). Furthermore, Lloyd knew that Han Mi, not Helen, had the potential to be a posthuman, which is why Han Mi had to play a villain who was a racial stereotype as well as being an enemy of Hank, who she liked because of daddy issues. If the narrative gives you an enjoyable role, you don't question it. She needed to be unhappy with her part so she would ask questions like "who's controlling this? How can I take control?". This is more likely to lead her to flowering, by making her take control of the narrative. Lloyd being involved could also be a reason why Helen had that stuff about the Carnival in her fake backstory. Lloyd might have (?) known that Raven's Carnival was trapped in the collective unconscious, so he wanted the Cabaret gang to find it and help Raven escape. Them finding Raven could cause Han Mi to flower, which could cause Raven and the Carnival to be free, which may have made it easier for Han and Lloyd to find Raven later on.
