Match Review: Manchester United U18s 4-0 Leeds United U18s
We all hate Leeds scum, Leeds scum. We all hate Leeds scum.
Tumblr media
Ahh, bragging rights in the Battle of the Roses. Always fun.
United ran out clear winners and wrapped the game up by half time thanks to goals from Gabi Biancheri, Bendito Mantato, Zach Baumann, and Ethan Williams.
Biancheri's opener came in the 13th minute thanks to some heavy pressing on the Leeds right-back and a poor pass back aimed at the keeper which the United striker intecepted, before passing the RCB and slotting home past the keeper.
A lovely ball from LB Harry Amass found Mantato at back post just a few minutes later, before Baumann (CAM) bagged a close finish off a Mantato pass in the 31st minute and Ethan Williams repeated the exact same move 15 minutes later to bring an end to the half.
Mid-table Leeds were no match for Manchester United, who dominated possession and dominated the attacking momentum of the game. Leeds weren't bad, but United are a level above and far more clinical. Mantato's G/A contributions makes him a deserved player of the match, but it was a good team effort from United - especially the attacking quartet of goalscorers.
United still haven't drawn or lost a game in the league yet, but that'll be tested by Liverpool at home on Tuesday evening, 7pm.

Note
Jamie's trajectory as a footballer would have been: scouted as a youngster by Man City's academy (as young as 9 but on average more like age 12, probably when his dad first came back, hearing his son was on a pro track) and then working through the academy until he got his first pro contract at 17, and been eligible for the first team. But the club has teams below the First Team, they have a development team, an under 18s team etc that all compete in the highest level of the sport for that age. He would have made some money since age 15 or 16, and a LOT of money since age 17.
https://playerscout.co.uk/do-academy-players-get-paid/
thank you so much for sending me that article, it explained it so succinctly! This part also shook me:
"if you take the 1.5 million youth players currently playing in England, only 180 will develop and play in the Premier League.
That is a 0.012% chance of making it.
Michael Calvin author of the book No Hunger in Paradise: The Players. The Journey. The Dream, says this is about the same chance of being hit by a meteor. "
Damn.
The only thing I'm not fully grasping: once you sign a pro contract at 17, are you eligible for First Team (if you're good enough of course) or do you have to play say, on the U18s first until you age out of it? Like, with Roy for instance we know that he was scouted super young at 9 for the Academy. But then in my head he was so good that once he turned 17 he started right away on the First Team. Or is that impossible?

It's been some brilliant two weeks for our youth teams.
United men U18s won the U18 Premier League North title and the U18 PL Cup.
United women U21s won the U21 Northern Division title.
Ethan Wheatley has become the 250th MU Academy graduate.
YOUTH. COURAGE. SUCCESS. 🔴

The Connecticut Whale is a professional hockey team that plays within the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF; formerly known as the National Women’s Hockey League, or NWHL). The Whale is one of the Founding Four teams in the league and the only one of those four that has yet to win the Isobel Cup. They were really bad for several years, but now they’re really good!

anyway then they lost to Boston in the Isobel Cup Final and honestly I’m still Quite Annoyed About It
Whale games are broadcast on ESPN+ in the US, TSN+ in Canada, and ESPN Affiliates in other countries.
Whale home games will (mostly) take place at the International Skating Center of Connecticut in Simsbury.

U17 & U18 Tottenham teams on their own Finals
It's been a long time since i became a Spurs fan. However, it will be my first time to witness them championing their U17 premier league cup and U18 premier league cup. Although that thing is not a significant trophy for us, It will be their first glory for them and our Spurs future. COYS

Football Manager 23 Canadian Database
Compete in a complete restructuring of the Canadian soccer pyramid, complete with 11 levels of competitions, featuring a total of 528 teams from leagues across Canada. Fight for league cups, and a complete overhaul of the Canadian Championship, from an expanded Canadian Premier League of 16 teams, with full Promotion and Relegation. A completely reasonable future for Canadian Soccer, this file allows you to compete as any team in Canada as if Canada was England, allowing little Surrey United to fight a battle against Vancouver at BC place for the chance to represent Canada in CONCACAF.
Download here -> https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2886012558
Check out my discord if you would like https://discord.gg/6dBFcPzRNa
A Full List of Changes
Structure
There are 11 levels of Soccer in this database
The first 2 leagues feature 16 teams, and play for the Sinclair Cup
Level 3 features 32 teams across 2 leagues, and play for the Schmidt Cup.
Level 4 features 48 teams spread across 3 leagues, and play for the Fleming Cup. Top 8 teams of the Fleming cup play against Level 3 in the Leblanc Cup
Level 5 and Below feature 60 teams, spread across 3 leagues, divided into 2 groups of 10. The top Level 5 teams in the Canadian Championship feature in the Grosso Cup
And then Finally, USports, matching their real world structure, but in 3 leagues instead of 4, complete with a post season Memorial Cup style league, featuring both the League Winners, and the Cup winners, for a 6 team single round robin format
The best of these leagues play for the 3 League cups, to determine who gets a bye to the quarterfinals of the Canadian Championship, alongside the winner of the Sinclair cup
Each of the senior teams has a U23 team, and a U20 team, which feature in Regional Youth Leagues, which feature relaxed rules, and a 10 level structure alongside applicable Usports teams, creating a spliced pyramid
Usports gets U18 teams which play in an HSports (Highschool analogue) league
All leagues mandate a certain number of Canadians, a few U21 players, and a U18 player in your match squad
5 subs from 12 for all competitions, some exceptions may be 6 subs, or max of 3 stoppages
Each league comes with a number of awards, such as Canadian Team of the Year
Added Teams
Every team from the following leagues features in the database, up January 2022:
USports, Canadian Soccer League, Pacific Coast Soccer League, Vancouver Island Soccer League, Vancouver Metro Soccer League, Fraser Valley Soccer League, Alberta Major Soccer League, Saskatchewan Premier Soccer League, Manitoba Major Soccer League, League 1 Ontario Reserves, Ontario Soccer League, Ligue de Soccer Elite Quebec, Nova Scotia Soccer League, , New Brunswick Premier Senior Soccer League, and Newfoundland and Labrador Challenge Cup
Also featuring teams like Algonquin College, who have their stadium in the game, to operate as owner for that stadium
Expanding joint teams out, to represent the future where these teams can compete without merging. A joint team will have two parent teams, with the parent teams being whatever the original organizations are
Future Proofing by including future expansion teams like Saskatoon, Langley*, and Windsor [*See note Above]
And just for fun, a minimal amount of fantasy, like a Bundesliga expansion, and my College, BCIT, and Ayr United Sudbury, so Quill18 can have his fun
This brings the total number of Playable teams to 528
Staff
Most teams feature their real world head coach when one was able to be documented
And of course, some female staff from the various Womens league such as Bev Priestmen, who takes over the Canadian U23 national team, hoping to bring home another Gold Medal at the Olympics, or Karina LeBlanc who manages the Portland Timbers 2nd team, an analogue for the Portland Thorns, and Stephanie Labbe who manages Vancouver 2, for the same reason. Give me that NWSL license, Sports interactive
Features
Every team plays in a stadium, all 528
Some teams have their stadiums updated, or changed. Teams like FC Edmonton are future proofed to play into the larger, right next door, Commonwealth Stadium
Every stadium in the game has a team. Olympic stadium houses an amateur team. Can you get them to fill the stadium?
Every team has a proper Jersey, or if one could not be found, one assigned. You wont be encountering any default generic red and blue teams as you make your way up the pyramid
Some teams such as the Church based teams, or the ethnic Community based teams, have club visions to match their status. Churches are asked to develop through their own youth system. Academy teams are asked the same, but also to sign young players, USports teams are asked to recruit out of high school, and teams such as ICSF Columbus are asked to sign Italians. Some fun visions exist too. Can you guess what you might need to do as Goals City FC?
The 2020 Gold Medal Winning Canadian Women's National Team have been added as icons and legends to the applicable teams. Can the Whitecaps live up to expectations and move into Christine Sinclair stadium?
Be on the look out for some interesting challenges. The worst team in the game is Unathletico Vancouver. Can you lead them to Glory?

Match Review: Manchester United U18s 2-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers U18s
A little bit delayed on this one - the Christmas season of work/gifts/social events and more is upon us big time...
Tumblr media
It was nine consecutive wins for United's youth side on Saturday against a usually sticky opposition in Wolves. A bogey side for the men's side, the Old Gold has been a thorn in United's side at all levels - but not on this day.
Goals in either half from Gabriele Biancheri and Ruben Curley guided United to pristine nine wins from nine in the league this season. Wolves put up a decent fight, which on paper showed them to be under the cosh, but perhaps the eye test deceived given that Wolves had 11 shots but only the one on target. In contrast, United has nine shots and six on target.
A clumsy slide tackle gifted United a first half penalty, which was comfortably buried by Biancheri. Wolves did hang in with just the one goal deficit until the 92nd minute sending off of Caden Voice tipped the scales a little further in United's favour and allowed Curley to double the lead and seal the win for United.
Tumblr media
United now boast a six point lead over arch rivals Liverpool in the U18 Premier League, with a game in-hand on them too, and the two sides will clash at Carrington on this coming Saturday - December 9 - in an 11am kick-off (hopefully live on MUTV).

Kitman Labs and Fulham FC Expand Data & Analytics Accord
Tumblr media
Kitman Labs, the global enterprise SaaS platform providing the only single, centralized operating system for performance intelligence in Sports, today agreed to expand its relationship with English Premier League side, Fulham FC, to include medical and performance data.  The Club will be utilizing the Performance Medicine, Performance Optimization and Coaching & Development Solutions - combining medical, performance and talent development data into a single, interactive data and analytics system to unlock player performance outcomes and inform talent development strategy.
Kitman Labs and the Premier League announced the launch of the Football Intelligence Platform for all Academies last month.  By deploying the Intelligence Platform across the Men’s First Team and Women’s Teams (First + U18’s), Fulham will now unify all data and analytics in a singular operating system for the entire organization.  This integrated, “whole club solution” will serve to drive cross-departmental collaboration, eliminate data and information silos, and provide internal stakeholders with a complete, unified view of each athlete for the purposes of unlocking performance potential and expanding player pathways.
"We’re thrilled to be working with Fulham FC - one of the most accomplished and storied football clubs in the English Premier League - helping to bring innovation to how medical and performance data and analytics are being leveraged across the entire organization to inform strategy and decision-making with objective, analytics-based insights,” said Stephen Smith, CEO and Founder of Kitman Labs.
“The traditional approach to simply collecting medical and performance data will no longer suffice.  We needed a single system that combines diverse sets of data across the organization. One that ensures accuracy of information, allows the information to be shared and utilized in real time, and supports planning and player health and development with actionable insights" said Chris Hanson, Head of Medical, Fulham FC.
“Our recent transition to the Kitman Labs Intelligence Platform has allowed us to continue to improve and manage the processes relating to the capture, cleaning, enrichment, and analysis of our football related data. It’s continued to support our evolving commitments to interrogating data, interpreting results, and creating data-led insights and stories.
We have been able to combine data sets from multiple disciplines and data streams to calculate, measure and evaluate impact for the purpose of player development. Furthermore, the platform has supported key stakeholders from across the ecology of the club to reason, reflect and strategise as a consequence of these data-led insights.
As a pilot club, these processes have been well supported through a comprehensive deployment. The ongoing and iterative support structures have flexed and been reflective of our own cares, concerns and strategies to ensure a collaborative approach to moving to our new data management system” said Tom Hounsell, Academy Insights Manager, PDP Coach.
Kitman Labs has an established track record of working with top teams and leagues across a variety of sports, including soccer, basketball, rugby, and American football. The company's technology has been used by some of the world's most elite soccer organizations, including Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea FC, Liverpool FC and Sporting Lisbon.  Kitman Labs recently announced the launch and deployment of The Football Intelligence Platform across all Premier League Academies.
This launch follows other recent business strategy moves Kitman Labs has undertaken including two strategic acquisitions of The Sports Office and Presagia Sports. The combined companies represent the industry’s largest network of elite and youth organizations (2000+), creating the industry’s largest dataset of talent, performance, and medical data for all stages of the athlete lifecycle.

Who is James McConnell? 18-year-old midfielder training with Liverpool first team
Tumblr media
Who is James McConnell? 18-year-old midfielder training with Liverpool first team James McConnell has been making the most of his time since joining Liverpool, and it's no surprise that he has now been recognized as part of the first team. Alongside more experienced players, McConnell and a group of young players have been invited by Jurgen Klopp to participate in the team's pre-season training camp in Germany. Although McConnell, who is 18 years old, may not have had as much exposure at the senior level as Bobby Clark, Ben Doak, and Melkamu Frauendorf, nor does he have the football legacy of Lewis Koumas, or the high transfer fee that brought Calum Scanlon to Liverpool, those who have been closely following the Academy have always recognized McConnell's potential. He is known for his energetic and attacking style of play, and he first made an impression when he joined Liverpool's under-18 team at the age of 16 after transferring from Sunderland's U15 team. McConnell made a strong impression during his first start in the U18 Premier League North, scoring a great goal that contributed to a 2-1 victory against Stoke City in February 2021. Throughout the 2020/21 season, under the guidance of U18s coach Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, he consistently played at that level and showed progress, leading to him signing his first professional contract shortly after his 17th birthday in September 2021. During that season, McConnell showcased his versatility by playing in various midfield positions, both in attacking and defensive roles. He even played on the left side and scored a goal in the 4-0 win over Everton U18s in the derby match. However, it was the following season when McConnell truly excelled. He started the campaign as a key player in the central midfield for the U18s and scored in the 4-2 victory against Manchester United. His contributions extended to Liverpool's UEFA Youth League run, where he made a significant impact in the 2-1 win against Napoli, setting the tone for the team. He went on to start six out of eight games in the competition, helping Liverpool reach the quarter-finals. In addition, McConnell had the opportunity to play for the U21 side in the EFL Trophy. He played the full 90 minutes in an unusual right-back position during a narrow 1-0 defeat against Rochdale in September. Liverpool's confidence in McConnell was further demonstrated when he signed a new long-term contract the following month. He then made his debut in the Premier League 2, playing in the second half of the 2-1 victory over Everton in the mini-derby. However, McConnell experienced a setback when he suffered an injury, which kept him sidelined for several months. Fortunately, in February, he made his return to the U18s squad and immediately made an impact by scoring goals in consecutive games against Manchester City and Nottingham Forest. "We have missed James when he has not been available due to injury," said Bridge-Wilkinson after an impressive showing by McConnell in a 4-0 win at Newcastle United in April. "I thought he was really good at Newcastle. Obviously he is one of the older players in our group and he played with a mature head. He has got a lot of quality and I thought he showed that." Towards the end of the U18s campaign, McConnell continued to make an impact by contributing a goal and an assist in a subsequent match. He also achieved another milestone by scoring his first goal in the Premier League 2 when he came off the bench and headed home the only goal for the U21s in their final match against Crystal Palace. With upcoming friendly matches against Karlsruhe on Wednesday and Greuther Furth the following Monday, McConnell will aim to impress Jurgen Klopp and the coaching staff in the hopes of earning playing time. Given his track record, it would not be surprising if McConnell adds another notable achievement to his growing list of accomplishments during these upcoming days.
