This scene in S7 E5 is so so important to the bridge between who Rick and Michonne were as people before each other and who Rick and Michonne are as individuals and a unit once they find and learn each other.
At this point in their journey they're at a crossroads. The Saviors have just murdered their friends and have put their community under a constant state of danger and strife. The very life and freedom they walked the extra 100 miles for is at risk.
And yet...
Rick is willing to accept it. He's already lost so much and he can't see a way out that doesn't include more losses that he's not sure he can handle.
But Michonne is willing to fight. While she too has lost so much, she can't see a way forward that includes rolling over.
Rolling over like Mike (who cost her her son).
Or rolling over like Andrea (who cost her the trust and friendship she carefully opened herself up to).
So here, when Rick says that he's going to go find things to appease this force weighing on them, that he's using his time and energy and power to essentially surrender, they're at odds.
For Rick, this comes with self-doubt, self-consciousness, and embarrassment. Maybe he can't keep them safe.
For Michonne, this comes with self-doubt, fear, and hesitation. Maybe she'll lose everything again.
But it's important to note that they're at odds with the method, not at odds with each other.
So. Back to this scene.
Rick says that if you change your mind, you can join us. You can join me. (Please don't leave. Please don't doubt me. That's a pain I can't handle.)
For him, Negan's presence is the manifestation of all his internal doubts. And we've seen what happened before when those internal doubts were presented in human form (Shane x Lori).
Lori turned from him. She doubted him. She lost faith in him. She, for all intents and purposes, left him.
So when he sees Michonne's doubt and hesitations, he thinks it's happening again. That she's turning from him. That she's doubting him. That she's lost faith in him. That she'll leave him. That she's disgusted by his "weakness". That she's at odds with him because we know that he internalizes his decisions as a reflection of himself.
That she can't handle, accept, or love this side of him.
But Michonne isn't even focused on that. She's stuck on her way of doing things. Of not being able to trust anyone and needing to be the only person who can step up. She's trying to not lose Rick and Carl and the others the same way she lost her son. She's reverting to hyper-independence.
So when she shifts his peck on the cheek to kiss him fully, when she holds his face and looks into his eyes, it's her saying "I see you. I understand. And I still need to do this for myself." (I'm not at odds with you. I'm trying to prove myself wrong. I need to see it through.)
His "thank you" is for her wordless affirmation. For her grace. For her love. For her acceptance of what he thinks he needs to do and who he thinks he needs to be in this moment to keep them all safe.
And with this, the bridge between them is strengthened. The Rick who still struggles with the weight of leadership that's been thrust upon him and the Michonne who hasn't fully trusted this new world around her begin to settle. And when each comes back at the end of the day having played out their individual methods and seen the proof they need firsthand, they have a new understanding of what they're facing.
Because this time is different.
Rick didn't have her before and Michonne didn't have him.
But now, they have each other. That's why she says that together they can defeat the Saviors. They need each other. His strength and hers. Different forms of strength made more powerful and amplified by the individual experiences they've had.
Le sigh.
This is one of my favorite scenes of theirs and in my mind lays the foundation for how everything in TOWL played out, from his escape attempts to her being able to break through his trauma. Simple perfection.

Just rewatched ‘Coda’ and this is never gonna be okay, I am a mess. I start crying from the minute they enter that fucking hallway. The reaction shots KILL me. The fact that you know Daryl is on the floor sobbing over her body just out of shot, I can’t— 😭💔
Beth Greene, you deserve so much better than this. Thank god for fix-it fic.

Daryl asking Rick to move on from Carl was nothing but a desperate plea, yet y'all focus only on that phrase rather than the entire conversation, before saying what have y'all so mad he said "I'd die for you and I would've died for Carl". He was telling Rick how much keeping Negan and the rest of the Saviors was affecting him.
I understand Rick's desire to honor Carl, but it was selfish to force the rest to accept his decision without thinking of how much it was affecting them.
Rick even sent Daryl to babysit the Saviors. Daryl had to go back to the Sanctuary, the place where he was tortured by Negan and his people. yet he tried HE TRIED.

The way that Shane is with Sophia and Carol vs. how he is with Ed in the same scene in ep3 gets me!
His body language is really telling:
With Ed, he stays standing and you can clearly see how annoyed he is with him. His trigger finger is twitching and his whole body is exuding anger. Shane seems to want to appear intimidating and in charge, which is understandable since Ed is a known bully, abuser and an overall asshole.
With Sophia and Carol it's completely different. He crouches, his voice is really low and he is respectful. He wants to appear as the complete opposite than he did with Ed. He asks them how they are to make sure they are okay and reassures Carol it's not on them that Ed doesn't follow the rules.
Mind you, this is just after the campfire scene when Rick is telling the group how it was for him when he woke up. Lori is regarding Shane with 'resentment' I'd say (with little she does look at him) and I imagine all the feelings and thoughts running around in his mind. We can assume he would feel angry at himself (and maybe even Rick) and guilt-ridden enough to want to get it all out. Ed adding more wood to the fire -breaking the rules Shane/the group imposed- would be such a good excuse for him to go off on him.
And yet, he doesn't. He manages to resolve the issue peacefully and goes so far as to make sure that Carol and Sophia see and feel that him berating Ed has nothing to do with them.
I honestly saw this scene going a whole different way, and I'm glad they surprised me.

So I'm rewatching TWD. I'm on season four. I've been trying not to watch season 3 and 4 as I'm currently writing a fic that's pulling from canon and was trying to stay near the episodes I'm writing from. The writing part is taking way longer than plan. So decided to continue the rewatch...got so many ideas for future chapters. Besides the point.
Just want to put it out there. In "Isolation" (4.03), Beth is in isolation with Judith. Maggie comes to her to tell her about Glenn being sick. Maggie is starting to crack/break down with her worry about Glenn. Maggie comes to her sister for comfort and support. Beth just straight out tells her to stop...stop getting upset and do what needs to be done. They all got jobs to do, and Maggie can't do her job if she's crying over Glenn. I don't think people see how strong Beth Greene really is. She's stoic in the face of these losses. She just lost Zach...says she doesn't cry anymore, comforts Daryl over it. Then when people are getting sick, she basically tells Michonne she doesn't want to know who's dead. She's got a job and she can't take the time right now to worry about who's dead or injured. Maggie later tells Beth that Hershel isn't in isolation...which Beth knows already. Maggie is the one that wants Hershel to stay away and hide. Hershel and Beth has to tell her that she needs to control her worrying and let them do what they need to do and for her to keep doing the things she needs to do. I don't know...I just feel like that's a side of Beth that people don't acknowledge as much. That she's burying her grief and worries behind this mask that will explode one day. I can see it exploding in her little side trip to get drunk after the prison falls. And later seasons, Maggie doesn't have that person...her sister and dad...to tell her to put her grief aside. Maybe they know Maggie is the type of person to focus on her grief. We saw that with Glenn's death and her war with Negan. I want more stories with Beth telling people they don't have time to grief. She's usually depicted as soft and leaning on people. These episodes she's the one people are leaning on and telling them to toughen up.

Also, holy smokes!!! The mind fuck Tyreese must have felt after finding out Carol killed Karen. It didn't register the first time I watched the episodes, but Tyreese didn't want to leave the prison to help the medical raid because he wanted to stand guard over the sick people--Sasha was in there--and asked Carol to look out for them and protect them when he decided he should join Daryl and Michonne. He just left his sister in the hands of the woman who killed his girlfriend thinking he was protecting her from Karen's murderer.

I love how throughout the Walking Dead the group comes across horrible communities with psychopathic leaders and then they come across the Common Wealth where the enemy is just capitalism.

God the fucking LAYERS of writing in this show. I love it.
Dr.Jenner telling Rick “the day will come when you won’t be” about him grateful for giving them a chance. Knowing those same words are the eventual title of one of the two lineup scenes.

SDCC got me in my feelings so much that I decided to rewatch The Walking Dead for the gazillion time. The first season is just a cinematography experience, isn't it? We have so many incredible scenes that put us on the edge of our seats! And every actor gives great performances, even those who appears only one or two episodes. So, because I love making random lists with gifs, here's my
🧟 10 highlights of TWD Season 1 in no particular order 🧟
1. Rick, Morgan and Duane just enjoying the hot water while showering on the sheriff's office. It's one of those simple and tender scenes TWD always knew how to do so we could connect with the characters.
Tumblr media
2. Jacqui! Just every scene with her. She's funny and kind and brave. I love the little moment she has when she is sitting all alone on the Winnebago stairs mourning Jim. I would gladly trade her for a few characters that we've met later and are still alive on the show.
Tumblr media
3. Glenn being Glenn: "Oops, let me get the cowboy/sheriff hat too!"
Tumblr media
4. Andrea and Amy bonding time. Oh the coloring of this scene. How we the audience understand their whole dynamic by just watching this moment. One of my favourites!
Tumblr media
5. Merle and how he's capable of saying something offensive on every single phrase that comes out of his mouth. I love him!
Tumblr media
6. Little Carl and his little t-shirt with a dog paw.
Tumblr media
7. Daryl's little angry fits and jokes. Zero patience, lots of sass.
Tumblr media
8. Carol finding a grenade on Rick's clothes and going "hum, finders keepers" LOL Good for her cause then she proceeded to save TF asses for the first time.
Tumblr media
9. The beginning of CARYL - not only because of the pickaxe scene, but how they start to be framed together from this episode on.
Tumblr media
10. Rick's insistence on wearing his full deputy uniform. Yep, it's a metaphor of where his mind, heart and soul are on S1, holding on to order and civilization, yada yada. But I find it hilarious.
