SNK 134: Why we need to move forward.
Tumblr media
Well...
That's horrifying...
Oh but whatever they are probably bad people in there. Thieves, greedy people, hateful mothers, men who beat their wives , liars, bullies, killers, murderers, rapist, child rapist and racist babies.
Yeah...
Tumblr media
This is a rhetoric that has been used for ages and is currently being used in this fandom especially on reddit and 4chan.
The justification of injustice.
When George Floyd was slammed on the ground and died because he couldn't breathe anymore, conservatives and republicans at large ignored the police brutaliy leading up to that.
He was just a cocaine or drug addict who one day pointed a gun at a pregnant lady. So he was a criminal and deserved that.
Of course ignoring the racial segregation that happened from the very legalized slavery hundreds of years ago and how poor and racially stigmatized black people are being in America right now.
When the Uyghurs are being genocided by China, the world blinds itself because China is one the worlds necessary assets in economy as it basically produces a good chunk of what is being used in the world. Most made by children, " but it makes us live "... Apparently that's the only logical reason...
When Palestinians and Israelis are literally killing each other over some complicated non sense that no one ever really understands and also Israël basically doing Apartheid at this point,
When the totality of the Middle East has turned into a warzone because of the United States's violent imperialism,
When most far right or extremist group decided that Islam and Islamic terrorism are the same thing,
When xenophobes and racist always attack immigration,
"If she wasn't wearing that skirt, she probably wouldn't have been raped",
When we have homophobes, transphobes, LGBTphobes, telling us what's natural and always bragging about "\___-_-___/ God, Holy Jesus",
When you have people who tells you that poor people chose their way of living when there are a small percent of billionaires and soon to be trillionaires having such a gigantic amount of wealth,
When 6 millions Jews were genocided which was 40% of Jewish people at the time and 2/3 of European Jews,
When the prime minister of Israël is saying that the Holocaust wasn't Hitler's Idea but Haj Amin al-Husseini, (who was extremely anti semitic, don't get me wrong)who suggested it to him maiking the prime minister a revisionist but at the same time making his actions against Palestinians justified,
When around the world Christianic places of worship are being vandalized,
When entire SYSTEMS of segregations have made societies work,
When the South American continent has been attacked by the United States because of different political beliefs,
When people use their rape as a way to attack other communities of a specific religion or color,
When Black Panthers uses racism against White people because of the story of USA and are being anti semitic but essentializing a whole group,
When Nationalistic Israelis tells you what is a good Jew and what isn't a good Jew,
When dozens of groups have been forced to extinction,
Natives who were being murdered, yeah? YOU DON'T SEE THAT A LOT IN YOUR COWBOY MOVIES ?
When literal "feminist" calls for the destruction of men while they can't educate the kids about what to do and what not to do, OH, can also be transphobic apparently,
When you have entire websites who encourages pedophilia,
And pedophiles killed, left alone and live a life of endless torment while no one does nothing to help them and fight those who encourages it even in the highest places of our society,
Oh and Hollywood, that's all I need to say.
And let's not even talk about animal brutality and the destruction of ecosystems.
And there is more and more and more and more and more and FUCKING MORE,
All that because of reasons, reasons, reasons, reasons,
All stuck in a cycle of hate, violence and discrimination that just never ends.
The selfishness,
The greed,
And at end, everything is meaningless. There is just blood.
This is what this chapter represent the meaningless of it all. How everything goes to shit...
How everyone, whether it's the oppresor or the oppresed, will justify the violence, the injustice.
Society does nothing cause society right now runs for the entitled and the entitled only and creates it's own monsters.
I want to ask those people who defend the rumbling.
After everything we saw in this manga, after what the real world has commited, after how much these real events have inspired this story, how can you say it was the only way ?
After everyone hided Hange valuable informations including Eren who had information about KRUGER who was a spy in MARLEY. Who has created a civil war in Eldia and activated the rumbling while killing Eldian civilians in the way.
After seeing the mental breakdown of Bertolt, who we don't hear about anymore, Annie and Reiner's mental breakdown over GENOCIDING AN ENTIRE GROUP OF PEOPLE, by the way Reiner totally didn't develop another persona at that time to cope with what he was doing, HUH ?
After all the deaths, Carla, Grisha, Dina, Faye Marco, Levi's squad, Ymir, Erwin, Sasha, Hange, Hannes, Floch and many others, how can you go and be like "CHAD EREN, BEING DADDY, FUCKING HIS MEAT WAIFU, PHILOSOPHER FREEDOM SEEKER"
"104th crybabies... xDdDDDD Prfrpfr"
Come on...
This isn't serious at this point.
And for the H character, we're gonna come back for her but...
GODDAMNIT!
THANK YOU, DEATH.
Tumblr media
This has sparked debates.
Some are thankful for this speech by the commander.
Others are finding it disingenous.
Others think it's too on the nose and not natural.
Others don't care.
On my part, I enjoy it but I take it with the context. Most of their airships have been destroyed and they are facing their doom upfront right now. It's more of a death plea at this point. Just like in the cave with Histor... GOD IT'S SO HARD SAYING HER NAME... with Historia who said truly horrible things at the point of an imminent death. At that moment, words like this can tell what you really are inside but even that is not enough to have a full picture.
It did have some interesting elements.
It is true, using, raising, breeding hate and shoving problems upon a group will always come bite you up the ass someday.
Marley in their extensive and violent coloniaslistic, imperialiatic behavior towards Eldia creates only weaknesses for them on an international field and create this monstruosity that is right now Eren.
Eren, a soldier who suffer from trauma and PTSD, who has terrible insecurities and everything to lose after losing so much and possibly in my book being influenced by another entity decides to kill them all.
But...
In no way does that justify Eren's actions, in fact it goes against it.
He is just as angry and hateful as they were back then but instead of destroying the system, he decides to genocide.
Essentializing the whole world as your ennemy and problem, and deciding to get rid of it is just continuing what has been started and continued for hundreds of years before.
No one ever thinks about the simple families, the innocent children, the homeless...
What about them Eren ?
What about the people who faced discrimination like Ramzi ?
What about the other groups that are almost extinct just like yours ?
What about the groups that tried to support the Eldians but were considered freaks ? HUH ?
What about the babies and innocent children ?
Isayama is even spelling it out for you this chapter.
Tumblr media
Is he not worth it ? To stop all this ?
He was born into this world just like every other baby.
Look at that while everyone, is trying to jump off, their trying to save the baby. Even if it's probably impossible. That's humanity right there.
And... jesus christ...
I literally saw people who said that the mother was dumb to give it to the people because titans were behind them.
I can't even...
Imagine if Eren is the daddy of H's Baby and that he completes the genocide, killing his friends or even persuading them and at the end he is saying you are free to this baby.
So this baby is worth more than this baby ?
He is more legitimate to live than him.
I can't even imagine what the arguments would be like with the Eren stans:
"He's protecting his friends."
While literally challenging them to fight and right now trying to kill them.
"Well, you know the Rumbling is horrible but they got what was coming for them. They did nothing to help Paradise."
While forgetting the complexity of human nature, how banalization of these acts of violence have come to be BECAUSE...
These just like me and you are just simple people. With simple lives and not too much power who can't do anything about it.
Most of the people today sees all the suffering in the world, they just don't have the power, nor the will to go against such complex geo-political conflicts.
Would you be able to just resolve the Israelo-Palestinian conflict ? I don't think so, so shut your ass down with this argument.
These people can't change the world with power that they have and the one that has the power to change that, is killing them right now. BRAVO.
" Well, uh, the child is a child, parents might be racist and uh... child maybe is racist or will become racist..."
God...
Just because someone has done horrible shits or is an horrible shit doesn't mean he should die like this.
Here it is people, how we work as human :
Fuck redemption and possible solutions, let's kill everyone who did something bad.
Y'all would have been perfect during monarchies time.
And like... having an argument on a baby should face genocide is just fucking disgusting.
AND DON'T GIVE ME THE BULLCRAP OF FICTION DOESN'T EQUAL REALITY!
That you are interested into what could bring the Rumbling in terms of thematics and story is fine.
BUT ENDORSING IT ?
Do y'all even hear yourselves sometimes ?
You just sound like every racist, bigoted, fascist and violent person that has ever existed.
You're just excited to see someone die because he commited something wrong, sadistic pricks.
You're no different. Perhaps the guy who was talking to Grisha in chapter 97, who was a Marleyan and gave serums to Eldian is right. When he was talking to Grisha, Isayama use it to break the fourth wall and talk to the readers.
Why do we watch this, all this violence ?
" Because it's fun!"
" People take peace for granted!"
" Of course we're abnormal in society's eyes."
" We wish to exterminate all eldians!"
" Your sister did nothing wrong. Shame she was an Eldian!"
The fun fact is that this guy is a racist fuck but he dies pushed by Kruger and killed by his very own creation: a titan.
Why do people endorse genocide ?
" Because it's justice!"
" They got what was coming for them!"
" Isayama is just showing us that genocide is not really wrong if you just understand the concept of morals. Puritans."
" Humanity can die, they deserve it!"
" I'm sad for Ramzi, he didn't do nothing wrong but you know... maybe he didn't have good ideas about Eldians."
While also saying why children could deserve genocide. \____@-@____/
Of course I found most of these on Reddit and 4chan, the nazi propaganda website. Tumblr is a little free of it.
Babies....
Literally babies...
That remind me of somethin'...
OH YEAH!
QUEER NO MORE.
Tumblr media
*put gloves on*
PUUUUUUUSSHH!!! COOOOOOOMMEEE OOONN!!!!
Breathe...
I SEEEEE THE HEAAADDD, IT'S HEREEEEEE!!!!
Natalie, bring the bucket, quick!
Of fuck she shitted on herself a little bit!
_________________________________________
So ?
Y'all like my fanfic ?
It's about how Erehisu is canon and how Historia is actually thinking about Eren right now because she is blushing.
But also about how Historia actually looks good and sexy while being pregnant and how she looks so happy!
She also is a lesbian that turned straight.
I'm so proud of my work.
_________________________________________
In all honesty...
This is... dissapointing and an insult to Historia fans. Why ? What is the purpose or the reason ? Being tragic ? To show how far Historia can go to protect her loved ones ? A female Eren so ?
I always leaned towards the fake pregnancy even if I don't know how something like that could be really pulled. I didn't understand this choice for his storytelling. The others I understand but this one...
O_o
What the fuck ?
So she really is pregnant ? But nothing leading up to it makes sense.
The character whose thematics still rings too much true for this arc is put in the background and as a breeding farm on top of that.
It even came to a point I started people to stop asking about her.
I had faith in her presence in the final arc. That she would have a role play.
But now ?
/\/\/\
For people who don't understand why this aspect of story is wrong, we have to break it down.
First off, Historia one of the first queer characters with Ymir in SNK. Others are suspected but these two are the few that holds a definitive representation as queer.
Most often in media or in real life, LGBT people have been forced into a situation that requires them to fall under heterosexuals lives. Here Historia is forced to be pregnant, yes in a way she agreed because of her people, but at the same time she didn't really want it.
For queer people, like me, this still rings true. Too much true. People literally forces you to go for your opposite sex everytime, to have a family.
No, stop forcing your view of your own life or desire of life on other people.
The fact that the fandom rationalizes that and says that she is happy and in love with Eren is just so fucking weird.
It either is blind ship following, heteronormativity or not understanding the story.
And I saw people saying she might be bisexual. This doesn't change anything. Also ignoring the fact that she hasn't shown any attraction to men other than women in the story.
If she is bisexual, it doesn't change anything, she is still queer. Not semi-straight AND EVEN IF SHE WAS A WOMAN WHO HAPPENED TO BE STRAIGHT, SHE IS STILL FORCED INTO SOMETHING SHE DID NOT WANT.
Bisexual is not semi-straight, semi-gay.
It's bisexual.
Bisexual, Straight and Homosexuality are not the same thing.
And if she was straight, that doesn't make it acceptable. It's just sick.
Just because you're a straight woman doesn't mean you are going to be more happy or have god like duty to have kids.
I just don't understand it...
A manga who was so progressive with his female characters reduces Historia to this.
Imagine...
Just imagine...
Eren is the father. I would shoot myself in the face. A forced straight relationship at the end for the pleasure of shonen readers and heteronormative readers.
" What if I have baby, Eren ?"
" Only if it is from me. I want him to live and have FREEDOM!"
" It's open bar, honey." *saying this after hearing the guy says he's going to genocide which goes against her own values and actions as queen*
Ew... Just ew...
And even worse she wasn't supposed to give birth right now, she was supposed to give birth in a few months.
She could DIE. SHE IS 19. This is dangerous.
Everyone is like this is normal.
THIS IS NOT NORMAL. *sigh*
This goes against what she is supposed to have as a character development.
The fact that she would be okay for genocide while as a queen she reached out to the most weak and in need is fucking incoherent.
No. This doesn't make sense. Even Eren said that Historia's action as a queen were to help others. How could she be okay sitting at her house ? Telling no one about what Eren was going to do ? And becoming a breeding farm ? What is the logic in that ?
Why make it suspicious than ?
The only thing that was able to make any logical sense to me was that the person we are seeing here isn't Historia.
I know if my theory is right, it's sick, even more sick.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The only times we saw Historia after the timeskip was during flashbacks, the reveal at 107 and possibly at the end of 123.
If this is her at the end of 123, I want to ask you why is she all prepared, why is she all dressed up and why is she wearing the same clothes in 134 that she is wearing 107. Something doesn't add up.
She is young, small-petite, blonde and her belly and face are hidden.
I was only able to go through the theory that this is a fake Historia. Than who it is than ?
Well, I searched for female characters who look like her or who could look like Historia right now. From all the characters that we haven't seen coming coming back and that has interacted with Historia, there is only one.
Tumblr media
Rico Brzenska.
For those, who don't remember her : She was a Garrison Member who helped Mikasa and Eren during the Trost Arc and also helped Historia while she was exhausted during the Clash of the Titans Arc.
She hasn't appeared ever since the start of the Return to Shiganshina Arc unlike many of the older characters.
She is the only one I see who could pass as Historia I think.
I know this is still sick. But this is the only way I would be able to make Historia get out of this crappy storyline and play some relevance in the story. And if we look at Rico and Historia in 107, they kinda look the same. They have the heart shaped face, they are both small and they both have this sort of closed eyelids.
One line that just stuck with me of Rico was:
"Hiding/Lying about Eren's rampage in the report wouldn't have benefited humanity. "
This was during Eren's trial before joining the Survey Corps. What was discused was when Eren lost control of himself during the Trost Arc and attacked Mikasa.
The second line that struck was the one where she holds Historia who is exhausted in her arms:
"Wow! Who is this girl, is she okay ?"
I don't know why it just pushed that theory. And I kinda believe it now, because no one can make me believe that there is something satisfying coming out of this. Why would she sacrifice herself for Historia ? Well, I don't really know but Rico was always a little wary of Eren, even after the Trost Arc but yeah ultimately for Rico being able to give her own life for Historia. I don't know about that. But with this manga you never now. It is a very dark and twisted theory but this is the only logical thing I can see right now since no answers have been provided.
Monkey is BACK
Zeke is back and like most of us predicted, Eren dragged him with him. And I'm not gonna lie, the way he was attached to the spine was pretty badass.
He is used as a puppet which reinforces the theory for me that all three of them: Eren, Ymir and Zeke are being used by the Attack Titan.
I cannot understand Eren's illogical behavior especially after seeing the train scene where he says he wants them to live long happy lives and than having him kill his friends.
Ymir the first being free and having eyes to returning to having no eyes just like before and Eren.
And Zeke would have never agreed to the Rumbling. And we can't see his eyes either.
And...
Thank you, 104th for existing.
Because...
Tumblr media
After how much shit they have gone through and after how much the fandom, not just the Eren stans, have mocked them. Like the fandom has been the biggest asshole to the the Alliance while they were the ones who were able to survive through the sentence " Genocide is wrong!" that so many people seems to find to be so hard to say.
I will root for them until the bitter end, I don't care. They are the one who are fighting. You can call Cringevengers all you want but I am glad they are winning.
They all suffered like Eren but they didn't prioritize their own and only feelings above everything else and they stood by for the values they fought for since they joined the Survey Corps. Even if I have to admit they have, for most of them, conflicted feelings with what they were doing and have done things like trying to talk to Eren while it's obvious he wasn't going to talk and that in a situation like this I don't think someone would try to stop Eren by just talking.
Levi, and it would be foolish to not recognize it, is being consumed by his promise but he is restraining it and still is able to think about the bigger picture.
There's one thing I really like about this is Armin asking Eren:
"Eren... I'll ask you one last time... "What part of you is free" after we rip you out from there... "
Hehe... yes... what part of you is free ?
To be honest, there's many things I don't want for the ending.
A Lelouch Ending, it was all Eren's plan. Literally wouldn't make sense. No one would be questionning his free will and he wouldn't have these weird shits happening to him.
A Code Geass ending, why would Mikasa have to kill Eren, what does that add to her as a character ? More tragedy ? No she doesn't have the scarf, it's pretty telling what place she's at right now.
Eren being the daddy. NO, JUST NO.
Everyone dies, genocide is the right thing. You know all the worst shit that can happen.
But most of all I want important plot points to be explored and moved over because ever since the timeskip, there has been no important plot points out the way. Eren's behavior, Ackertalk, Bertolttalk, Historia's Condition, Paths stuffs, answers!
Whatever... Trust me Peace is not something I take for granted. Being proud of myself and having a life with the least conflict and problem is something you fight for. Having rights, being recognized as a human.
Never lose that, fight for it. But never with injustice, be smarter and stronger. Cause at the end what unites us is not only what we have in common but what the perspective of what we have not in common can make a bigger picture of what we are as humans. We all are different and have a different story with similarities but in the end, we are human and born into this world. And in that, we must move forward. In the present, because of the past and for the future.
We all wish for the problems to go away but if it's for the solutions to be rigged with injustice, it will not work. No one has acheived with genocide and never will.
Tumblr media
It's kinda sad that this long of a post has to say this. Did y'all see that ? Pretty inspiring what I wrote. Oh well you know what ? If they can be bigoted why can't I myself.
Here's a song I wrote:
(Fuck everyone and you.
We hate women
There are only 2 genders, the breeder and the breeded.
Everything is degenerate.
We hate brown, Arab and Muslim people.
Genocide is cool
And Hitler was too.)
I know but you know what, at least if they want a spy for Nazi Germany someday. They'll know not to give it to me because I'd laugh at the stupidity of the people just like you and I are doing with the rest of world cause for all the shits it gives us, it's entertaining.

Catholicism-Related Homophobia Masterpost
Hello!
Mod Deryn here, as your local Roman Catholic gal, here to talk to you about some common comments/’arguments’/views/ideologies held/made by homophobic Catholics, and what your characters can say back to them.
TW for transphobia, homophobia, religion, and general bleh-ness.
I want to start off by saying that any self-respecting Catholic that actually practices what they preach would not be homophobic, because it literally goes against the 10 Commandments (basically the ten rules that you’re not supposed to break ever because they’re especially bad sins), and violates the second-most important commandment, which is to love your neighbour as yourself (Matthew 22:39). We as laypeople explicitly do not have the right to judge (much less punish) anyone, no matter what. We are called to love everyone.
Anyway, your homophobic Catholic is likely to be more of a ‘conservative Catholic,’ so to speak, rooting their arguments in traditionalism and condemning more progressive stances in Catholicism that are pro-LGBT. (Please keep in mind that while many Catholics refer to God as a He, I refer to Them as They, and will thus refer to Them as that).
Common Arguments that your Homophobic Catholic Character May Use and How to Confront Them:
1. The Genesis Argument (AKA Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve) This is a very common “argument,” and basically centres on the idea that in the first creation story (and yes!! there are two included in Genesis!!) God creates Adam (the first man) and then Eve (the first woman). In the second Genesis story, God tries to find the perfect ‘companion’ for Adam, and when nothing works, They make Adam fall asleep and pull out Adam’s rib and make a new human (Eve) out of that rib. Implausible as it sounds, it is one of the two possible explanations of creation that exist in the book of Genesis, the first book of the Bible, as well as the first book of the Torah.
It is important to realize that in the original Hebrew text, the first human is referred to as Ish, which means ‘humankind,’ and then, when Eve is created, they are then referred to as ish and isha (man and woman). Basically, men weren’t created first because just ‘humanity’ was created first. (To be fair, this is more of a side-note than anything, but I do find it important to note).
How to Confront this Argument:
A) Have your character point out that this creation story is, quite frankly, just that. A story. The Bible includes two separate accounts of creation for just this reason, to make it clear that the creation story is a story, not an actual account of reality. (And no, I’m not being a heretic, this is literally what’s taught in religion class. Ask my religion teacher with a Masters in Religious Education). The use of repetition in the first story (i.e. “And there was evening and there was morning, the [x] day”), the largely symbolic language, and other, subtler hints are meant to clue in the readers that the creation story is largely symbolic and not an account of real events. Most of Genesis is like this; stories and things that must be taken into the context of the time they were written in in order to fully understand what the messages are.
Almost all (Old Testament) Bible stories are not meant to be taken literally, and your Catholic homophobe will likely be the die-hard ‘the bible said this so it must be true.’ If that is the case, your character could mention some other things the bible mentions that are somewhat ridiculous in a modern context and have to be taken in the context they were written in - for example, in Leviticus 19:19, God instructs the people that “[they should] not wear clothing woven of two types of material.” Given that that includes most fabric nowadays, something has to give.
2. “The Bible says homosexuality is wrong!!” (AKA - I’m going to pretend I read this passage so I have a reason to be uncomfortable with you).
Your character is likely to be referencing either the story of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19) or that one line from Romans (You Know What I Mean).
(Rape Mention TW)
To sum up, in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, the people there are like, super sinful, so God wants to destroy them all a la flood style. But Abraham (God’s Main Dude - Jewish, Muslim, and Catholic people all trace their lineage back to him, I believe) was like ‘hey, wait a second there God, I have family there, don’t kill them.’ So to ‘test’ Sodom and Gomorrah, God sent two angels in disguise as humans to go visit Abraham’s family, who welcomes them in. However, the rest of the residents of Sodom all go to Lot (Abraham’s family - I can’t remember the exact relation), but they go to Lot’s house and demand to be allowed the permission of sleeping with Lot’s guests (the angels). Lot, being a good person, doesn’t do that.
The next morning, the angels tell Lot and his family to clear out before they destroy the two cities, they do so (although Lot’s wife looks back and gets turned into a pillar of salt), and are thus saved.
(End Rape TW)
This story has been interpreted in two major ways - one is that it is a warning against homosexuality, the other being that it’s a warning against inhospitality. The second one, in context, makes more sense. Lot is spared, not because he didn’t display any homosexual tendencies, but because he was a good host and tried to protect the angels. His wife, despite being not described as gay in any way, is turned into a pillar of salt because she disobeys their guests’ wishes.
Basically - the main biblical story that Catholics use to preach against homosexuality is a misunderstanding of the text.
The line in Romans about homosexuality is based off this story, in most interpretations, and is thus also based on a misunderstanding of the text, and thus unreasonable to take into consideration.
How Your Character Could Confront This Argument:
Assuming your character had read the passages in question (which isn’t necessarily untrue to life - when I first began realizing I was gay, I started scanning as much of the bible as possible to find out what the Bible actually said about homosexuality. However, I will admit that that’s a rather uncommon reaction, especially if your character has not been raised in a very faith-immersed environment. A character with less knowledge about this background could instead point out the inadequacies of the Bible as a set of rules to live one’s life (Jesus Himself did not follow all the rules that the Pharisees had set - for one example, He would heal people on Shabbat, regardless of the fact that it was supposed to be a day where you did very little - I don’t know the exact rules, but He wasn’t supposed to be healing people).
Not only that, but Jesus (who set out the New Commandments and basically was sent out into the world to create a new era of Love and, depending on who you talked to, basically voided the majority of the Old Testament) never actually said anything about homosexuality, and the Old Testament is where the majority of homophobic arguments are found, showing that a lot of people who use these arguments are ignoring the part of Bible they’re arguably supposed to be paying the most attention to.
3. God Hates X Group!
Nope. God is Love. The two words are literally interchangeable throughout the Bible. Remember that passage from Corinthians - Love is patient, Love is kind?
Now think... God is patient, God is kind. Slow to anger, rich in kindness...
In the Beginning, Love created the heavens and the earth.
It goes on.
The spiritual embodiment of love literally cannot hate. It’s just... not possible. Not only is this person presuming to know what an all-powerful and presumably omniscient deity believes in and thinks, they are also presuming to believe that God would hate Their own creation.
Again in the New Testament, there are a startling amount of parables about tax collectors. Why? Everyone hated tax collectors. They were often corrupt, took money for themselves, and sometimes left families destitute. It was a pretty common feeling among the people that these collectors were destined for hell (and good riddance!). However, Jesus goes on up there and tells them that tax collectors, prostitutes... all these people who are condemned by the public? They’re going to heaven first. Why? Because they’re still God’s children, no matter what, and God doesn’t hate them.
How to Have Your Characters Refute This Argument:
“Oh, I thought your God was a loving God?”
Listen, God literally sent Their own progeny, their only child, to be humiliated, tortured, and then killed. Why? To save everyone. No matter who, or what, or how, or why, they’re ALL being saved. Anything else violates Catholic teaching.
4. “You must be fruitful and multiply!” (AKA: Being gay is wrong because you can’t naturally reproduce).
Transphobia aside, this view is (again) based heavily on Genesis, which was written in 1400 BCE. It’s worth keeping in mind the context in which this was written (child mortality rates were high, people didn’t live very long, having lots of children was almost necessary because of mortality rates, etc). Using hermeneutics (the modern study of the Bible, taking into account context, storytelling format, authors’ bias, and so much more), we are able to make better judgements in relation to what the Bible says.
Now, it is generally understood that people aren’t required to have twelve children in order to obey God because that doesn’t make sense within a modern era. There are blessed single people who do not choose to be nuns but choose to live single and are thus sanctified (my grade six teacher is one, though I forget the exact title). All members of the clergy do not have children - priests because they represent God, and nuns and monks because of spiritual obligations to God. Obviously, if so many members (and important members!) of the church - both lay and clergy - are considered just as sacred as those who did have children, it stands to reason that the only thing that truly matters is their dedication to God, not the number of children they had.
Besides that, adoption is a thing, surrogacy and artificial insemination is a thing, and this is ultimately an outdated worldview.
How To Have Your Character Refute This:
If your homophobic character uses that exact line, consider having your character point out how long ago that part of the Bible was written. Alternatively, they could point out the number of LGBT+ couples/families seeking out adoptions and other methods of having children, point out the transphobia in their statements, or otherwise find flaws in their logic as seen.
-
TL;DR: In my opinion, while there are absolutely many interpretations of the Bible, hatred is not one of them, and using Roman Catholicism to justify homophobia is upsetting, to say the least, because using God to promote hatred goes against the whole point of a religion based on love.
Most of these arguments can be easily refuted by someone reminding the prosecutor that Roman Catholicism is about love, not hate.
And if refutation isn’t enough, maybe hitting them over the head with a bible will do it (but I generally don’t endorse doing that. Violence doesn’t really work).
Best of luck writing!

The Desire of Ages, pp. 537-542: Chapter (59) Priestly Plottings
This chapter is based on John 11:47-54.
Bethany was so near Jerusalem that the news of the raising of Lazarus was soon carried to the city. Through spies who had witnessed the miracle the Jewish rulers were speedily in possession of the facts. A meeting of the Sanhedrin was at once called to decide as to what should be done. Christ had now fully made manifest His control of death and the grave. That mighty miracle was the crowning evidence offered by God to men that He had sent His Son into the world for their salvation. It was a demonstration of divine power sufficient to convince every mind that was under the control of reason and enlightened conscience. Many who witnessed the resurrection of Lazarus were led to believe on Jesus. But the hatred of the priests against Him was intensified. They had rejected all lesser evidence of His divinity, and they were only enraged at this new miracle. The dead had been raised in the full light of day, and before a crowd of witnesses. No artifice could explain away such evidence. For this very reason the enmity of the priests grew deadlier. They were more than ever determined to put a stop to Christ's work.
The Sadducees, though not favorable to Christ, had not been so full of malignity toward Him as were the Pharisees. Their hatred had not been so bitter. But they were now thoroughly alarmed. They did not believe in a resurrection of the dead. Producing so-called science, they had reasoned that it would be an impossibility for a dead body to be brought to life. But by a few words from Christ their theory had been overthrown. They were shown to be ignorant both of the Scriptures and of the power of God. They could see no possibility of removing the impression made on the people by the miracle. How could men be turned away from Him who had prevailed to rob the grave of its dead? Lying reports were put in circulation, but the miracle could not be denied, and how to counteract its effect they knew not. Thus far the Sadducees had not encouraged the plan of putting Christ to death. But after the resurrection of Lazarus they decided that only by His death could His fearless denunciations against them be stopped.
The Pharisees believed in the resurrection, and they could not but see that this miracle was an evidence that the Messiah was among them. But they had ever opposed Christ's work. From the first they had hated Him because He had exposed their hypocritical pretensions. He had torn aside the cloak of rigorous rites under which their moral deformity was hidden. The pure religion that He taught had condemned their hollow professions of piety. They thirsted to be revenged upon Him for His pointed rebukes. They had tried to provoke Him to say or do something that would give them occasion to condemn Him. Several times they had attempted to stone Him, but He had quietly withdrawn, and they had lost sight of Him.
The miracles He performed on the Sabbath were all for the relief of the afflicted, but the Pharisees had sought to condemn Him as a Sabbathbreaker. They had tried to arouse the Herodians against Him. They represented that He was seeking to set up a rival kingdom, and consulted with them how to destroy Him. To excite the Romans against Him, they had represented Him as trying to subvert their authority. They had tried every pretext to cut Him off from influencing the people. But so far their attempts had been foiled. The multitudes who witnessed His works of mercy and heard His pure and holy teachings knew that these were not the deeds and words of a Sabbathbreaker or blasphemer. Even the officers sent by the Pharisees had been so influenced by His words that they could not lay hands on Him. In desperation the Jews had finally passed an edict that any man who professed faith in Jesus should be cast out of the synagogue.
So, as the priests, the rulers, and the elders gathered for consultation, it was their fixed determination to silence Him who did such marvelous works that all men wondered. Pharisees and Sadducees were more nearly united than ever before. Divided hitherto, they became one in their opposition to Christ. Nicodemus and Joseph had, in former councils, prevented the condemnation of Jesus, and for this reason they were not now summoned. There were present at the council other influential men who believed on Jesus, but their influence prevailed nothing against that of the malignant Pharisees.
Yet the members of the council were not all agreed. The Sanhedrin was not at this time a legal assembly. It existed only by tolerance. Some of its number questioned the wisdom of putting Christ to death. They feared that this would excite an insurrection among the people, causing the Romans to withhold further favors from the priesthood, and to take from them the power they still held. The Sadducees were united in their hatred of Christ, yet they were inclined to be cautious in their movements, fearing that the Romans would deprive them of their high standing.
In this council, assembled to plan the death of Christ, the Witness was present who heard the boastful words of Nebuchadnezzar, who witnessed the idolatrous feast of Belshazzar, who was present when Christ in Nazareth announced Himself the Anointed One. This Witness was now impressing the rulers with the work they were doing. Events in the life of Christ rose up before them with a distinctness that alarmed them. They remembered the scene in the temple, when Jesus, then a child of twelve, stood before the learned doctors of the law, asking them questions at which they wondered. The miracle just performed bore witness that Jesus was none other than the Son of God. In their true significance, the Old Testament Scriptures regarding Christ flashed before their minds. Perplexed and troubled, the rulers asked, “What do we?” There was a division in the council. Under the impression of the Holy Spirit, the priests and rulers could not banish the conviction that they were fighting against God.
While the council was at the height of its perplexity, Caiaphas the high priest arose. Caiaphas was a proud and cruel man, overbearing and intolerant. Among his family connections were Sadducees, proud, bold, reckless, full of ambition and cruelty, which they hid under a cloak of pretended righteousness. Caiaphas had studied the prophecies, and although ignorant of their true meaning, he spoke with great authority and assurance: “Ye know nothing at all, nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.” Even if Jesus were innocent, urged the high priest, He must be put out of the way. He was troublesome, drawing the people to Himself, and lessening the authority of the rulers. He was only one; it was better that He should die than that the authority of the rulers should be weakened. If the people were to lose confidence in their rulers, the national power would be destroyed. Caiaphas urged that after this miracle the followers of Jesus would likely rise in revolt. The Romans will then come, he said, and will close our temple, and abolish our laws, destroying us as a nation. What is the life of this Galilean worth in comparison with the life of the nation? If He stands in the way of Israel's well-being, is it not doing God a service to remove Him? Better that one man perish than that the whole nation be destroyed.
In declaring that one man should die for the nation, Caiaphas indicated that he had some knowledge of the prophecies, although it was very limited. But John, in his account of this scene, takes up the prophecy, and shows its broad and deep significance. He says, “And not for that nation only, but that also He should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.” How blindly did the haughty Caiaphas acknowledge the Saviour's mission!
On the lips of Caiaphas this most precious truth was turned into a lie. The policy he advocated was based on a principle borrowed from heathenism. Among the heathen, the dim consciousness that one was to die for the human race had led to the offering of human sacrifices. So Caiaphas proposed by the sacrifice of Jesus to save the guilty nation, not from transgression, but in transgression, that they might continue in sin. And by his reasoning he thought to silence the remonstrances of those who might dare to say that as yet nothing worthy of death had been found in Jesus.
At this council Christ's enemies had been deeply convicted. The Holy Spirit had impressed their minds. But Satan strove to gain control of them. He urged upon their notice the grievances they had suffered on account of Christ. How little He had honored their righteousness. He presented a righteousness far greater, which all who would be children of God must possess. Taking no notice of their forms and ceremonies, He had encouraged sinners to go directly to God as a merciful Father, and make known their wants. Thus, in their opinion, He had set aside the priesthood. He had refused to acknowledge the theology of the rabbinical schools. He had exposed the evil practices of the priests, and had irreparably hurt their influence. He had injured the effect of their maxims and traditions, declaring that though they strictly enforced the ritual law, they made void the law of God. All this Satan now brought to their minds.
Satan told them that in order to maintain their authority, they must put Jesus to death. This counsel they followed. The fact that they might lose the power they then exercised, was, they thought, sufficient reason for coming to some decision. With the exception of a few who dared not speak their minds, the Sanhedrin received the words of Caiaphas as the words of God. Relief came to the council; the discord ceased. They resolved to put Christ to death at the first favorable opportunity. In rejecting the proof of the divinity of Jesus, these priests and rulers had locked themselves in impenetrable darkness. They had come wholly under the sway of Satan, to be hurried by him over the brink of eternal ruin. Yet such was their deception that they were well pleased with themselves. They regarded themselves as patriots, who were seeking the nation's salvation.
The Sanhedrin feared, however, to take rash measures against Jesus, lest the people should become incensed, and the violence meditated toward Him should fall upon themselves. On this account the council delayed to execute the sentence they had pronounced. The Saviour understood the plotting of the priests. He knew that they longed to remove Him, and that their purpose would soon be accomplished. But it was not His place to hasten the crisis, and He withdrew from that region, taking the disciples with Him. Thus by His own example Jesus again enforced the instruction He had given to the disciples, “When they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another.” Matthew 10:23. There was a wide field in which to work for the salvation of souls; and unless loyalty to Him required it, the Lord's servants were not to imperil their lives.
Jesus had now given three years of public labor to the world. His example of self-denial and disinterested benevolence was before them. His life of purity, of suffering and devotion, was known to all. Yet this short period of three years was as long as the world could endure the presence of its Redeemer.
His life had been one of persecution and insult. Driven from Bethlehem by a jealous king, rejected by His own people at Nazareth, condemned to death without a cause at Jerusalem, Jesus, with His few faithful followers, found a temporary asylum in a strange city. He who was ever touched by human woe, who healed the sick, restored sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, and speech to the dumb, who fed the hungry and comforted the sorrowful, was driven from the people He had labored to save. He who walked upon the heaving billows, and by a word silenced their angry roaring, who cast out devils that in departing acknowledged Him to be the Son of God, who broke the slumbers of the dead, who held thousands entranced by His words of wisdom, was unable to reach the hearts of those who were blinded by prejudice and hatred, and who stubbornly rejected the light.

Note
On the character asks: 11, 22, and 23
11.  What do they think of creation? Do they believe in evolution or do they believe in God? What is their religion like?
Dottie: She was raised by a scientist. Her mother believed in God, but never really stuck to a religion, so Dottie was raised agnostic and never went to any kind of church. She believes wholly in science, while also believing that it cannot solve all of life’s questions.
Greta: She grew up religious, but now hates it with every fiber of her being. It was the reason her parents wouldn’t get a divorce, despite fighting all the time and taking it out on her. It was the reason they punished her as harshly as they did. The only good thing religion ever got her was her girlfriend, Ana, because they met in her parents’ church as children.
Singh: His parents are proudly Hindu and so is he. They live in India while he resides in the States, but he still observes all the holidays and wears the traditional clothes that his mother sends him.
Julie: She can’t remember much of her upbringing, other than her parents’ punishments and them sending her to the “Camp”, and how her sister, Mae, was her only ally, so whatever religion her family observed is buried somewhere underneath all that. She chooses to believe what science tells her, because it’s not like she can dispute it, anyway.
Rowan: They’re grandmother, Siobhan, was hardcore Irish Catholic (like FROM Ireland) and that’s how she raised their mother, Aisling, who rebelled against most of it and ended up giving birth to Rowan when she was seventeen. Rowan spent much of their early days in church with their grandmother, who forced them into dresses until they finally told her that they didn’t want to wear dresses to church. At least, not the ones that Siobhan favored. Since they had a young mother, she was open to allowing her child to express themself any way they felt fit. Siobhan took longer to accept it, but eventually allowed Rowan to dress any way they wanted in church, which meant a few suits and even cutting their hair incredibly short. Siobhan learned to ignore the whispers and stares directed at their grandchild as Rowan learned their bible verses. They, like Julie and Dottie, believe in evolution, but they still have the Catholic faith and read the bible to their grandmother in her retirement home.
Bailey: She was left at the doors of a church when she was four, with nothing more than a ratty blue blanket and a letter that identified her by first name only: Bailey. The nun, Sister Catherine, gave her the last name Bishop and took her to the hospital to be checked over, before sending her into the system, where she was surrounded by other nuns in group homes and homeless shelters for the youth. She was only in that system for a year before she was adopted, but she was scarred by the experience. As an intersex person, she was called an abomination more than once. When she was adopted by Henry and Ida White, she was relieved to learn that they didn’t require her to have any kind of faith. She wouldn’t have, anyway.
Dean: He is tiny and pale and freckled and a devout Jewish transboy. He had a Bat Mitzvah (at his stepfather’s urging) when he turned twelve, but he wants a redo now that he is in the care of his foster parents. A redo that they’re happily giving him. He says his prayers and celebrates every Jewish holiday and he believes in the stories that he reads in the bible. That being said, he does have an interest in science, but he doesn’t let the two interfere with each other.
Ana: Her father was a preacher and her family owned a church in the Bronx. She is the second-youngest of eight and grew up a devout Christian. Despite being disowned by her parents for their “religious concerns” regarding her bisexuality, she still believes in the bible and still wears a silver cross around her neck.
22. Does your character trust people right off the bat or does it take them some time?
Dottie: Yes and no. She lost her mother young and was adopted within a year, but some of her foster parents were needlessly cruel even when they appeared nice, so she has some reservations when it comes to new people. Especially as an older, black, lesbian teenager.
Greta: It takes a lot for Greta to trust people. She could barely trust her own parents because of how they treated her. Ana is the only one she can truly let in. She loves her siblings and foster parents, but it’s still hard for her to trust them fully.
Singh: He’s a gay Indian boy living in Greenwich Village, so it can be dangerous to trust some people. He’s cautious, but he doesn’t close himself off completely.
Julie: She has seen more than her fair share of cruelty, so trust doesn’t come easily to her. That said, there have been people who’ve pleasantly surprised her, so you never really know...
Rowan: They try to trust as openly as possible, but as an enby, that too can be tough. They’re strong and resilient and bounce back pretty easily, but not everybody can say that.
Bailey: She is really shy, but not untrusting. But, like most of her siblings, she is cautious about what she says and who she says it to.
Dean: There was a time that he trusted his stepfather. And then his stepfather became violent toward him and his mother, so he is not easy to trust. He tries to remain positive, though.
Ana: She is as trusting as a person can be. She believes that everybody--even the parents that disowned her and the siblings that refuse to acknowledge her existence--have good in them. Greta hates this about her and loves it at the same time.
23. Romance or affection? Quickest way to their heart?
Dottie: Big gay mush. She’s all for the flowers and the hand-holding and the soft kisses on cheeks. She’s the one that tries to do the big gestures, but sometimes it doesn’t go as planned.
Greta: She SAYS that she’s not into “all that romantic crap” but she still gives Ana violets for pretty much every occasion and takes embarrassing selfies of them together and she’s usually the one who initiates hand-holding.
Singh: He swoons, he sighs, he LOVES affection. Especially from a cute guy.
Julie: Julie doesn’t know how to handle affection, but she loves the love stories in her books and probably wouldn’t mind somebody doing that kind of stuff for her.
Rowan: Overly dramatic, goofy bisexual who thinks that they are a stud and will try to woo you with flowers and fireworks that they definitely obtained illegally.
Bailey: So very shy and awkward bean who turns bright red when somebody gives her so much as a piece of candy or a paper Valentine.
Dean: He’s a 12-year-old boy. He’s not much into romance, but he does get a little flustered when a certain somebody shows him attention and he has NO IDEA WHY THIS HAPPENS.
Ana: Over the top lover of all things romantic and affectionate. Her grump of a gf acts like she hates it, but Ana knows that she secretly loves all of it.
