#Repost @bricks_in_time with @get_repost ・・・ #onthisday 28th June, 1969; A police raid on a New York gay bar sparked a backlash that would change the course of history and kick start the modern gay rights movement. Police brutality towards the LGBTQ community was commonplace in 1960s America and raids on gay bars happened often. On this occassion however the people inside the Stonewall Inn decided they'd had enough. They fought back and pelted the police with bottles, coins and shot glasses. The Stonewall Riots, as the event became known, were commemorated one year later with the first ever Pride parades. A movement was unleashed that would slowly help transform the lives of LGBTQ people around the world.
