Hey, um, have we talked about Nureyev's decision to re-use the moniker "Ransom" yet? Like the meaning of the word, to ransom something is "to free from captivity or punishment by paying a price"... And we know the price now. We know who he's trying to free.

Gosh, he's so dramatic. He literally joined the Aurinko's dead-set on being reminded of Slip every time someone had to address him. He chose it to remember what he was there for. Don't get attached, remember the goal.

And then Juno was there, and Nureyev was suddenly begging him not to use that name with him because he didn't want to think about the man he failed while he was with the lady he loved.

After Final Resting Place, a lot of fic writers grappled with whether Nureyev intended his invitation to sound like an ultimatum (run away with me now or I'll leave forever) and usually they fell on the side of him not meaning it quite that way.

Following the Next Page I propose that is WAS an ultimatum, just not for Juno, for Nureyev.

He couldn't stay, he couldn't stop, but he loved Juno. His only hope was that Juno willing to get on that ride. It was selfish, but it was his only chance. Now Nureyev is asking the opposite of Juno for the exact same reasons. He loves him.

Friendly reminder: Juno and Nureyev are canonically obnoxious kissers.

Don't think about the fact that Juno learning to trust Nureyev and Nureyev trusting him, going on a grand adventure together, discussing/thinking about spending the rest of their lives together- only to be left because one side thinks he has done too much wrong to deserve something as good as a life with other-

Is *exactly* what Nureyev went through when Juno left that hotel room. And is exactly what Juno is going through with Nureyev now. But Nureyev went through it alone.
