Game of Love/ Alexia Putellas x Reader
Warnings: Nothing but fluff. Maybe one swear word
Author: So this is my first time writing, because I always wanted to try it and I have to say I´m a vey slow writer but it is a lot of fun. Also english is not my first language anyways enjoy (-;
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You barely get nervous, but here you are. You're about to head out to the pitch. It is the Champions League final 2024, and Barcelona is facing none other than the mighty Lyon. But this Barcelona is different from the ones that lost to Lyon before. This Barcelona is determined to win.
You get pulled out of your thoughts by a familiar hand on your shoulder. You recognize that touch among billions, and her scent will forever be your favorite. Alexia and you have been dating for four years.
You signed to Barcelona 6 Years ago and Alexia and you immediately clicked. You became friends with her on instant and after some time you started to devolve a small huge crush on her. What you didn’t realize that she felt the same, but after a night out with the team to celebrate your Copa de la Reina victory, where everyone, including Alexia, drank a bit too much, things between you and her got really heated and after some shameless flirting on both sides, grinding on each other on the dance floor and some more drinks, you found yourself the next morning in an unfamiliar hotel room with brown hair sprawled everywhere. You couldn´t help but admire her and hoped that also for her this was not only a one night stand. So after she woke up, you both got to talk and finally admitted your feelings for each other.
And here you are now, facing your lover, who only for you breaks her serious game face, which, in your opinion, is one of the most attractive things in the world, into an encouraging smile. "Are you ready, mi amor?" Alexia, of course, notices your nervous state. "You don't have to be nervous, okay? We are a different team now, and you have the season of your life." It is true; you have the season of your life and have already won the league. "Thanks, baby, I really needed that." She nods, gives you a quick kiss on the forehead, on your nose, your right cheek, your left cheek, and finally, your lips.
You can't help the butterflies that erupt in your stomach, and you smile into the kiss. "Break it up, lovebirds, will ya!" Mapi chuckles behind you. You break away from Alexia's soft lips, giggle, and hug your girlfriend. "I love you," you mumble in her neck. "And I love you more." She steps out of your embrace and kisses the top of your head. Just about when you wanted to protest that you love her more, she shuts you up with one final kiss to your lips and eventually takes her spot to lead out the team.
The game couldn't start any worse. In the third minute of the game, Ada Hegerberg scored a beauty, leaving Cata Coll no chance. In the 20th minute, it was 2:0 Lyon, thanks to Van de Donk. Only 5 minutes afterward, Ada Hegerberg scored her second goal of the evening, and it was 3:0. You immediately got flashbacks to Turin 2 years ago, but you had to shake these thoughts out of your head. Lyon presses high, and Barcelona was lucky not to concede any more goals. The ref blew the halftime whistle, and both teams headed to the changing rooms.
Everyone's heads hang low. I sit at my cubby talking with Aitana about strategies when I feel a presence next to me. It was Alexia, who immediately joined our conversation to outline the game. She placed one hand on my thigh and gave it a few encouraging squeezes. Jonathan came in: “Chicas, nothing is lost yet. We all know what we're capable of, and if anyone can turn the game around, it's Barca. Vamos!”. "VAMOS!" Everyone in the changing room knew that this game was not over, and with new hope and confidence, we headed out to the pitch to start the second half.
And with confidence, we played. We started the second half way better, and after only ten minutes, after an amazing pass from Alexia, Aitana could find the back of the net. And that was all we needed.
A corner kick, Mariona made it 3:2.
Alexia passed the ball to you, and you began to run down the field, suddenly having a lot of open space. Just as you were about to shoot, you felt some cleats colliding with your ankle, making you stumble to the ground in pain. Your ankle throbbed, and not long after, the medics arrived.
At the same time, Alexia shoved Ada, who made the tackle. "You could've hurt her. That has to be a fucking card!" Ada shoved Alexia back and growled, "I didn't fucking touch her. She fell to the ground because of nothing." Just as Alexia was about to respond, with what would have definitely been a hard push, Mapi grabbed her. "Ale, calm down. Let her go! Y/N needs you more. She isn't worth it." With one last angry glare at Ada, Alexia made its way to you. "Mi amor, are you okay?" "Peachy," you responded. "Is it bad?" Alexia mumbled to the physios. "No, it's alright. She's alright to continue to play."
The tackle was rewarded with a free kick, which Alexia easily slotted into the top left corner. You ran to her, and all gathered in a big hug. "Freaking yes, Baby. What a goal!" You gave her a secret kiss on her neck.
With now only 5 more minutes left on the clock, everything hurt. But you couldn't just give up. You sprinted to recover a ball and sent it to Patri, who dribbled around one Lyon Player and passed it back to you. And you did what you can do best. Shoot. You just took the shot. And…
"YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!" Everyone was screaming from the top of their lungs. Your shot probably won Barca the Champions League. With only a few minutes left, Barcelona did everything they could to defend their lead, and that was what you did. Throwing in every ball, running even though it hurt.
The whistle blew. Barcelona had done it. You are the champions of Europe once again. You sank to your knees, overwhelmed with emotions. You soon locked eyes with those sparkling hazel eyes, and a beaming smile made its way across your face, as does it with Alexia. You made your way over to her and pulled her into a tight hug. "I'm so proud of, Ale," you mumbled into her neck. "And I'm so unbelievably proud of you, mi amor. That goal was a beauty." You chuckled. "It still feels surreal. I mean, we won it now for the third time, but I never get tired of it." You looked up at her, and the desire to just kiss her grew inside of you. The way her eyes sparkled, her teeth-showing smile, and a look of adoration towards you only intensifies it.
Without hesitation, you fulfill your desire and press your lips against Alexia's. The taste of victory is sweeter than any championship, and in that moment, the world disappears around you. The cheers from the stadium, the flashing cameras, and the ecstatic teammates fade into the background, leaving only you and Alexia, lost in the celebration of your shared triumph.
Breaking the kiss, you rest your forehead against hers, breathing in sync as the magnitude of the moment sinks in. The elation, the relief, and the sheer joy are palpable, and you can't help but grin. "We did it," you whisper, more to yourself than to Alexia, as if saying it out loud would make the reality even more concrete.
"We did," she replies, her voice filled with a mix of happiness and disbelief. "I knew you'd make a difference, but that last goal..." She trails off, shaking her head in amazement.
The team gathers around, enveloping both of you in a collective embrace. Laughter, cheers, and the occasional tear of happiness mingle as you bask in the glory of the victory. Champagne bottles pop open, and the sparkling liquid showers everyone, marking the end of a long and challenging journey.
Amidst the jubilation, you steal a moment alone with Alexia. Hand in hand, you slip away from the chaos and find a quiet corner of the stadium. The echo of cheers becomes a distant hum as you lean against a railing, gazing out at the pitch where the triumph unfolded. She pushed you gently against the wall and kissed you softly, with so much love. After a few minutes, you broke apart and rested your foreheads together.
"It's incredible, isn't it?" Alexia murmurs, her eyes reflecting the shimmering lights of the stadium. "All those years of hard work, the setbacks, the victories, and now... this." She gestures to the field below, still alive with the energy of the recently concluded match.
You nod, a profound sense of accomplishment settling in your chest. "And to think it all started with that Copa de la Reina celebration."
Alexia chuckles, her hand finding yours. "A night we'll never forget."
And with that, you join your teammates again for the celebrations.
You knew that whatever will happen on the pitch, you would always have a safe place off the pitch.
Alexia

Bumped Heads & Bedtime Stories (Alex Morgan x reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: So this wasn’t planned but once it was in my head I had to write it. I hope you all like it.
Alex and Charlie watched on proudly as you took the field with the Matildas for the Semi final of the World Cup. The younger of the two got up from her mother’s lap and stood directly in front of the TV when the camera zoomed in on you as you exchanged pendants with the German captain.
“Mommy look it’s Mama” Charlie says excitedly.
Long distance was hard for the two of you when you started dating, more so when you got married but all of that failed in comparison to when you had Charlie. You played for Lyon and had done since you were a 21 years old. Alex feared what your bond with Charlie would be like when you lived half way across the world for the majority of the year but she soon found out she had nothing to worry about. Charlie adored you and the bond you two shared was unbreakable.
“It is and she is wearing a shirt just like yours” Alex replies to her daughter.
“This is her shirt Mama, look” Charlie points the your last name on the back of her shirt.
“But you support America, right Charlie?” Kelley asks the small child.
“No! I support Australia” she didn’t pronounce every letter but it was enough to be understood.
Alex knew this was an argument she could never win. You hadn’t tried to get Charlie on your side, the girl automatically chose you. The two of you asked her who she would support if Mama and Mommy play against each other and each time Charlie said you.
The Matildas were putting in yet another dominating performance just like they had been doing the entire campaign. The advantage they had with it being a home tournament made a huge difference and every game sounded and was played like a final.
You were 2-0 up going into the second half. Sam had scored from a corner and you had scored from a free kick. You were currently the top scorer on the tournament which shocked most people because you were a left back but you were also a set piece specialist. The ball almost always found the back of the net whether it came off your foot or your head.
It’s why when the next corner takes place you are heavily marked but some how manage to free yourself. As you jump for the header you feel your head hit something but it felt a lot harder than a ball, this much is proven when you fall to the floor and can feel your head throbbing in seconds. Your first guess is that you got elbowed so you stand to your feet but then feel a warm liquid running down your face. Yes, you had built up a sweat but it was winter in Australia no way are you sweating this much. It is only when you look down that you see drops of red on your shirt and when you raise your hand to where the pain is your hand is covered in blood.
Alex was unaware of the incident that had taken place on the pitch as she was getting some water from the hotel bar. The first wave of panic is brought on when she hears Charlie shrieking and her cries get louder and louder as she runs towards her.
“Mama’s hurt. Blood” Charlie all but jumps into the Alex’s arms. The child is inconsolable.
Your wife doesn’t know to react. She knew that she had to stay calm if she had any hope of calming Charlie down but right now she was finding that incredibly difficult.
When Alex returns to the seating area she sees all eyes are on her before heads turn towards the TV.
“How bad is it?” Alex asks calmly.
“Lots of blood” Charlie is the only one to answer her question.
“Can you one you please tell me what happen to Y/N?” Alex begs her team mates.
“It was a corner. She jumped up for a header but one of the German defenders had a hold of her shirt. The keeper came out to punch the ball away and kneed Y/N in the head. She got up almost immediately—“ Kelley tried telling her best friend.
“So she’s ok?”
“She had a cut on her head. Like Charlie said there was a lot of blood. She refused a stretcher and help from the physios because she wanted to play. Sam and Ellie had to help her of the pitch. She looked out of it”
Alex tried to process what she was being told. Head injuries are serious and regardless of whether you used a stretcher or not, the suggestion of one is enough to instil worry.
“Was it bad?” She wasn’t sure if she wanted to the answer.
“No”
“Yes”
Only one player said yes and it was Kristie.
“Sam refused to play and walked off the pitch with Y/N. I know my girlfriend, I has never seen her look like that and she has never walked away from a game. It’s the semi final. She wouldn’t have gone with Y/N if it wasn’t bad”
Kristie’s statement made Alex feel two things; relief because you had your best friend with you and panic because the blonde was right, Sam wouldn’t have left the match if it wasn’t bad.
“Charlie” Naomi walks up to the little girl who surprisingly doesn’t shy away from her “do you know how many goals you mama has scored so far? I think it’s 2”
Your daughter reaches of the defender and goes into tell her that you had scored and how you scored them.
Time after time, Alex got your voicemail. She was about to give up and drive to the hospital that were closest to the stadium but then Kristie got a call.
“It’s Sam” She holds the phone towards the forward “She’s with Y/N”
Alex took a deep breath before holding the phone up to her ear.
“Y/N”
“Hi Al” you voice was quiet and if she hadn’t already have known she would be able to tell something was wrong “I need to go to the hospital for some checks and stitches”
“Which one? I’ll get one of the cars and be there as soon as I can” Alex was already searching for a member of staff that would have car keys.
“No, don’t come. Stay with Charlie. Hospitals are no place for children and you hate them almost as much as I do. I should only be a couple of hours if I don’t have to stay over. I’ll come to you afterwards”
Alex wanted to argue. She needed to see that you were ok with her own eyes, anything less wouldn’t do.
“You’re going to come here as soon as you can?”
“I am”
The whole USWNT waited patiently, some more than others, for you to arrive to their hotel.  Since you began dating Alex, you had become part of their family. They all watched the incident happen and would feel much better when they saw you in the flesh.
Hours pass and you still hadn’t arrived, they hadn’t even heard from you since the call with Alex.
Charlie went quiet and Alex knew it was because you needed to see you. The young girl always shut down when she missed you and she wouldn’t return to her normal until she saw you or felt like you were close to her. Because of this Alex had packed several of your hoodies so that they can be a source of comfort your daughter and her as well.
“Kells, will you take Charlie up to get one of Y/N’s hoodies. I’d take her but I want to be here when she—“
“Of course”
The choice of clothing must have been a hard decision because the pair was gone almost half an hour. The defender returns to the hotel bar.
“Kelley, please tell me you haven’t lost my daughter?” Alex asks when she notices her friend is alone.
Alex walks towards the defender who had assumed Charlie was right behind her.
“Mama!!”
The word is heard throughout the bar and the giggles that follow lift a weight that had been hanging on each players shoulders.
When you enter the bar, your daughter in your arms, everyone can see what the accident had done to you. The left side of your forehead is slightly swollen and you had stitches just below your hairline. You welcome Alex into your arms and place a small kiss to both her and Charlie’s temples.
Sam hovers near you. You hear Kristie call her over but she shakes her head.
“Go. I’m fine” you pat your best friend on her shoulder “Thank you for staying with me Sammy”
“I’m only over there if you need me” Sam gingerly walks over to her girlfriend.
You sit down with Alex next to you and Charlie on your knee. Your daughter inspects your injury all whilst been careful not to hurt you. She presses your stitches a little too hard which causes you to wince.
“Does it hurt?” Charlie asks and you can feel Alex’s eyes burning into you.
“It does but I’m ok”
“Are you?” It is now Alex’s turn to ask you a question.
“I am. I have no concussion and no major damage”
“Then why is Sam here and why is she watching you like you’re going to pass out at any minute?”
“I lost consciousness a couple of times, I think I scared her” You once made a vow to be honest with Alex and it seemed important now more than ever.
You look over to where Sam and Kristie were sitting and like Alex said, Sam was watching you like a hawk.
“I’m here because I have her medication” Sam answers Alex’s first question.
“Medication? You said you were ok. If you were ok then you wouldn’t need medication”
You give Sam a look as if saying look what you’ve started.
“Sam. Show Alex the medication you were talking about”
Sam holds up a pack of paracetamol earning a laugh from the girls around you.
You hated taking painkillers but the doctor give you strict instructions to take them every 4 hours. It has been 2 hours since your first dose and Sam had taken it upon herself to make sure you took a second dose, after that it would be Alex’s job.
“Sam wanted to see Kristie without it the girls teasing her for it so she’s using me as an excuse”
Sam couldn’t argue with you on that. The team, you included, loved to tease her about how much she missed her girlfriend. You got just as much stick but you agreed with your tormentors whereas Sam would get defensive.
You took Charlie upstairs to get ready for bed since it was made obvious that the team would be staying downstairs for a bit and one late night wouldn’t harm the child.
Whilst Alex did believe you when you told her you were ok, she still wanted a second opinion and your best friend her best option.
“How bad was it?” Alex joins Sam and Kristie at their table. Sonnett, Lynn and Kelley was also at the same table.
“You want the truth?” Your wife nods her head “At first it was really bad. The physios couldn’t stop the bleeding and they didn’t want to go to hospital until they did. Y/N was out of it but she was trying to act fine. Her eyes wouldn’t focus on anything, it was almost like we weren’t in the room with her” Sam tries not to cry but the lump that if forming in her throat was making it difficult.
Alex didn’t share the same need for control. Her tears fell freely as she heard your best friend tell her what happened moment by moment. Turns out she did have a reason for concern and quite a few at that. Looking at the way you walked in you wouldn’t have thought anything had happened but after listening to Sam, Alex realised you had to be putting on a brave front.
When you return with a pyjama clad Charlie Alex tells the group that is is time for the Morgan - Y/L/N’s to go to bed. You saw the look in her eye and didn’t argue.
Once the door had shut Alex started to cry.
“Hey hey, there’s no need to cry” you pull her in tight and hold her close. You knew that you would have scared Alex so you let her cry.
“You scared us” Alex speaks into your chest.
“I know, I’m sorry” you grab her hand and pull her towards the bed. Once sat down Alex buries her head in the crook of your neck and you hold her tightly again.
“Yeah mama, there was a lot of blood” Charlie walks over to the two of you. Alex pulls away and quickly wipes her eyes. She didn’t want your daughter to see her cry.
You wanted to say wait till they see your Matilda’s jersey which was now more red than yellow but now wasn’t the time for jokes.
“I know there was but it all got cleaned up and then I got these to stop it from bleeding again” You point to your stitches.
“I got you this” Charlie climbs onto your lap and holds up a band aid which had Pepper pig on. You take it off her and hand to Alex with a nod of you head. Alex then places the unnecessary band aid across the stitches but makes sure that the cushion covers your stitches.
“Can we watch a movie?”
“Yes” Alex answers.
“Actually, the doctor told Mama she isn’t allowed to watch any movies tonight”
“You said you didn’t have a concussion” Alex whispers knowing full well what people who have concussions get told.
“I don’t but the brightness makes my headache worse” you reassure your wife.
“Why?” Your child was curious and didn’t understand why you wouldn’t be allowed.
“Because whilst I am ok, I do have a poorly head. What about a bedtime story instead?”
Charlie happily takes you up on your offer and even gets herself into her bed.
“What do you think Al, is it time our daughter finds out how we met?”
Alex rolls her eyes at this. You two had very different sides when it came to the day you met. You were adamant that it was love at first sight, especially for Alex but she didn’t agree.
“Only if you tell her the truth”
Once Charlie is tucked up in bed you side on the side with Alex standing over you.
“It started when Australia played America. I had to mark your mommy and she kept trying to take my top off” This earned you a slap from Alex but a giggle from Charlie so it was worth it.
“I did not”
“You ripped it off me remember”
“It was an accident”
“Oh baby, you keep telling yourself that. Do you think it was an accident Charlie?”
“Nope” Charlie agrees with you, of course she did.
You continue telling the story and every so often you would hear Alex scoff at your recollation of events. She saw you as this cocky Aussie but you did catch her eye that first day but she wouldn’t call it love at first sight. Lust would be more appropriate given then you ended in her hotel room that night.
“Then a couple of years later your Mommy moved all the way to France because she missed me and wanted to see me everyday”
“I didn’t move for you. Well not just you”
“Ha! I knew it” you look up at Alex with a smug look in your face.
“I miss you everyday Mama”
“And I miss you my sweet one”
You continue the story up to the point where you propose to Alex when you see Charlie trying really hard to fight sleep. You end it there and promise to finish it another time.
You get into your own bed, well technically it is Alex’s bed, and with a watchful eye you enjoy the show she is putting on as she gets changed.
“So I’ve been thinking”
“Are you allowed to do that?” Alex jokes.
“Actually not but just allow it for the time being. My contract is up with Lyon this summer and I have meeting after the world cup to discuss my contract. How would you feel if I request a transfer?”
Never in all the years of dating and marriage had Alex asked you to leave Lyon, not even when Charlie was born. You were one of the best players in the world, Lyon was the team that made you into that and in return you gave them several champions league titles. Sure the topic had been brought up before but you were always under contract so it was hard.
“Are you saying you are ready to leave?”
“No. I’m ready to stop leaving. Charlie is getting older and you heard her, she misses me and I know you do” Alex throws her top at you “You do and I miss you too. I’ve given my life to that club but it’s time I put our family first”
You wouldn’t admit it but today scared you and you knew that it could have been a lot worse than it was. It made you appreciate these moments you had with your family and you wanted to have more of them even if it did mean moving the San Diego.

Tropicana sold Folies Bergere in '75 to an entity called Production Leasing operated by Joe Agosto, and the show was leased back to the Tropicana. Nominally Agosto was just the owner of the Folies but Gaming Control Board investigators believed Agosto was managing the casino and overseeing a skimming operation for the Kansas City mob. The sale and lease-back of the Folies was an apparent move to shield Agosto and the company from the Board’s oversight.
Agosto was later arrested and subsequently plead guilty to a casino skimming conspiracy in a deal to become a witness in the Justice Department’s investigation into the crime syndicate’s influence over several Las Vegas casinos. Tropicana was sold to Ramada Inns Inc. in '79. Agosto died of a heart attack 8/29/83 while in federal custody.
“I owned Aztar stock in the 90s. It was the parent company of the Tropicana at that time, a spin off of Ramada motor hotels. Reading the annual report was amusing. The deals and sub deals on everything. Quite complicated for just a hotel. But the one thing I remember distinctly is the part where all the furniture belonged to and was leased from a Kansas City company. I was always reputed that this hotel was controlled by the Kansas city outfit. No smoking gun just a notation in a financial disclosure.” - Gus Archer to Vintage Las Vegas, 2024.

Olympique Lyonnais Behind the Scenes (Episode 5)
This covers the month of January. Better late than never but alas some of us have jobs that we want to keep and cannot be chronically online. The Behind the Scenes translations is one of those times where I wish I was technologically apt because then I could just upload the video and add subtitles, alas, neither OLPlay nor my technology skills will ever make that happen.
I have no shame in confessing to this - I didn't want to do this one because Carpenter is in it and I am so irked by all the fucking Arsenal fans/stans suddenly thirsting for her to join their godawful team after the abuse she is has gotten from Arsenal stans the past two years. To act like she should join that club after what those people have said / done is so completely tone-deaf. Likewise, suddenly using "le clean sheet" every time your goalkeeper does their actual job is not as cute/funny as you think it is. It's annoying. It's so fucking annoying.
I will also save those godawful stans the time and say that Lyon / Carpenter do not address Carpenter's engagement to van de Donk as Lyon is a serious club who doesn't use a player's personal life as a marketing ploy. The purpose of the Behind the Scenes is to get to know the players' mentality and thoughts about the month's events.
Blah blah standard disclaimers apply; @OL Comms I feel like chipping in to contribute my Starbucks fund is the least you could do considering all the free work I am doing for y'all; how amazing would it be if some of you would actually get the mental help you so desperately need; y'all know the speech.
OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS BEHIND THE SCENES (EPISODE 5)
Ellie Carpenter: We had a lot of games. We had Champions League games. I think it was a much needed break for everyone.
Selma Bacha: We really needed to have a break, because there are players who went straight into the World Cup so they didn't have a lot of rest. Everyone benefited from the break. For me, I went to Tunisia, where my family is originally from. So I had a great time with my family. And then we started up again. The break was short.
Damaris: It was good for everybody I think to go home, to be with our families and friends. Just to push football aside and enjoy ourselves. Yeah, that's always a good thing.
[OPENING CREDITS]
[TRAINING FOOTAGE FROM GIRONA]
Sara Dabritz: We went to preseason camp. It was really good. We spent a lot of time together. We had a nice hotel. It was intense but it's like that in camp. But I think it was good for us to prepare for the [second half of the] season.
Carpenter: The training camp in Spain was a nice way to come back at the start of this year to train well, to get the basics back, get back in the gym. And it was also really fun for the team morale. The camps with the team are always really fun. We have to work fun but also enjoy ourselves off the field.
Bacha: It was hard because you come back from break and you have to dig deep and work hard. So it was really hard because we had a fitness test over there.
Carpenter: The worst moment was probably the running test we had to do, the 1.5km [1 mile] sprint test.
Bacha: Honestly, that's when you realize that Olympique Lyonnais is a family. You can see it in the video clips, we're encouraging each other. The cohesion was top.
[TRAINING FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Bacha: My favorite moment was the team cohesion activity with the golf carts. Honestly it was so good. We had to do stuff - well, we had to do funny things. It was the best part.
Carpenter: Driving around the hotel trying to find clues, that was very fun.
[TEAM COHESION ACTIVITY FOOTAGE]
Carpenter: Yeah, we knew we had Paris FC as soon as we got back from Christmas break. After having been off we thought it might be hard to come back and play against a top team in Europe, in France for sure.
[LYON - PARIS FC GAME FOOTAGE]
Bacha: We got right into it. We know that those sort of games, they're going to very very big games because Paris FC is a really good team who has really improved and recruited really well. And honestly, it was a big game. We had to work for that win, so the game was won on mentality.
[GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Carpenter: Paris FC has shown that they're a great team, they're a top team in Europe, doing well in the Champions League and, yeah. The intensity was high. I think you could feel that everyone just came back from holidays but we'll fight, until those last five minutes when we did score.
[GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Bacha: Ah, Ada's goal, that's just Ada Hegerberg. That's it. There's no other forward who can do that. Honestly, when we celebrated - even I spoke in English, I said "what a goal". [Hegerberg speaks English when she's annoyed, which is why Bacha brings up the linguistic switch] Her shot was really incredible. You can watch it over and over. If you ask her tomorrow to do it it, she will. And it's true that she's the kind of player whom you can count on in big games. Everyone should have an Ada on their team.
Damaris: Yes, it was a magnificent goal. Speaking for myself, I was far back. It was a long ball, I headed it forward. I saw the ball stay there and I saw Ada [Hegerberg] call for the ball. When you're behind, you can see everything. Right before she took the shot, I was like "well, that's going to be a goal."
Carpenter: Yeah, she's a big game player, she scores big goals. So we needed that in that moment and she did that. So it was very cool.
[LYON - PARIS FC POSTGAME FOOTAGE]
Bacha: Honestly, it's good for us and it gets us going. I think we've been really good since the start of the season. And when I talk with players on other teams, or other coaches, they tell me that Lyon this year is unbeatable, so I hope it continues like that and we'll bring all the trophies home.
Damaris: The work we did for that game, we worked really hard. I don't think we were really efficient but we had a lot of opportunities to score.
Carpenter: Yeah, I think it was important that we started the year off with three points and continue our perfect streak in the league.
[LYON - MONTPELLIER COUPE DE FRANCE GAME FOOTAGE]
Dabritz: We had the game against Montpellier in the Coupe [de France]. I remember Amel [Majri] scoring a magnificent goal. It was a right on target.
Majri: Yeah, I saw Lindsey [Horan], she won the ball back. I called for it, she passed it to me. I think Ada [Hegerberg] was besides me asking for it as well, but I don't know, I think I was focused on what I was doing. So I just took a shot and it went it.
[GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Bacha: Yeah, it's really great. Good on her as well because you can see she is starting to get her rhythm back. It's not easy when you're not playing all the time. Here, honestly, I'm just so happy for her. I hope she continues like that because she's the sort of player we really need.
Carpenter: Yeah, I love playing with Amel [Majri]. Yeah, I think she's one of the best players in the world I've seen or played with. [is she though...] She's an amazing talent and you can see what she's capable of now when she's getting back to the top of her game.
[GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Carpenter: The team is in very good spirits at the moment, and you can tell that on the field. Off the field, we're a very close group and we work for each other. And on the field, you can see we're very connected. We're just enjoying ourselves out there, we're not too much pressure [on ourselves], we're just trying to play good football.
[GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Majri: So really, when I went to call for the ball, I could see that even if I got it, I didn't think I could do much with it. So I said to myself, "Amel, leave it", so I left it and there was Ada [Hegerberg] and then a goal. And I thought - well I'm not going to lie to you, when I left I thought to myself "I hope she gets it". And to be frank she was doing great work before, because Lindsey [Horan] got past the opponent, and she [Hegerberg] just shot across. Honestly, it's a great goal.
[GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Majri: Yeah, I'm happy because it's always nice to implicated in the build-up to a goal. I think that what I bring in terms of the style of play, I try to be involved in the ball movement, moving with the ball, moving without the ball. And I have good sensations, I feel good. Beyond that it's also the fact that I have been playing in consecutive games. But in terms of full games, I think it's one of my best performances since I have come back.
[GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Carpenter: I guess playing a team one week after the other, twice in a row, it's quite difficult. It was a different Montepellier we faced at their home as well, away. Yeah, it was a tough game, it was one we had to grind out. Yeah, we knew they were going to come out different, like after beating them in the Coupe [de France], we knew it would be a completely different game since they're at home, and they totally showed that.
Bacha: We know that the league and the Coupe de France have nothing to do with each other. We know that Montpellier is a very, very aggressive team. And we knew that playing at their stadium was going to be hard. But here, yeah, it was really hard.
[MONTPELLIER - LYON GAME FOOTAGE]
Bacha: The night before the game, I was really focused on myself. I knew there were people coming to watch us, members of my family. And then, corner. It comes back to Eugenie [Le Sommer], who gives it back to me, and I was like - I knew exactly where I wanted to put it. So I pulled it in and placed it on Vanessa [Gilles]'s head. So really, really happy.
[GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Bacha: It's that left foot, it's my left foot. What can I say. But beyond that, I work really hard. I know that I always want perfection. Because I know there are games where the crosses aren't good, but I really want perfection.
[GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Bacha: My second assist for Ada [Hegerberg], it's vintage Ada-Selma. It's that connection that I think not a lot of people have. Honestly, with her, I know where she wants the ball and - honestly, I don't even have to look up. Because I cross, but I already know where she is.
Carpenter: Yeah, Selma [Bacha] is a great crosser, a great assister. Yeah, they're perfect, those crosses, pinpoint. If it wasn't for her we probably wouldn't have gotten the three points. So it was great to have her service [LOL at the Franglais here - the correct word would have been contribution], it allowed us to score goals.
[GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Dabritz: I remember that it was a very intense game. But it's always like that against Montpellier. It's always a game which comes down to the duels, to aggression. They came back with that goal, it was a game which was a little [Dabritz mimes going back and forth] But then we won it and that's the most important thing.
[GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Dabritz: We gave it all on the field. And it's normal to have games which are more complicated than others. And yeah, Montpellier is a good team, I can admit that.
Bacha: That's why I said that Olympique Lyonnais, the mentality - honestly, there are few players who can walk on to this team and say they already have that mentality. [@/any team other than Lyon. A blood lust isn't innate. It's learned behavior.]
[GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Dabritz: We went to Austria for a Champions League game. Those are always special games for us. It's a particular game, playing the Champions League, those games are seen as the highest level.
[ST POLTEN - LYON PREGAME FOOTAGE]
Carpenter: Yeah, you never know really, when you go to other teams, other countries, how the pitch is going to be. Yeah, the pitch wasn't great. But we made the most of it and we had quite a good game.
Bacha: A stadium which was ... [Bacha laughs] It was a complicated game. No, playing on that pitch was complicated, it was a bit hard. But we started strong. We attacked from the start, even if we were starting to feel the tiredness. But we attacked from the start and were playing simple. And honestly, we were very efficient as well.
[ST POLTEN - LYON GAME FOOTAGE]
Dabritz: And yeah, we played a really good game, with a lot of goals and a really good performance from the entire team.
[ST POLTEN - LYON GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Bacha: [forcefully] We never underestimate a team. When you play simple and individually you're clean, technically you're clean, and you're all on the same wave length, honestly there are not - we're good.
[ST POLTEN - LYON GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Carpenter: Getting players back from injury, it's always nice, especially when they're providing assists and scoring goals. That's even better.
[ST POLTEN - LYON GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Dabritz: Yeah, it was a good goal. [laughs] We really enjoyed ourselves on the field, we had nice combinations, we were explosive offensively. At least I think so. So we were really happy after the game.
[ST POLTEN - LYON GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
[TRAINING FOOTAGE / COUPE DE FRANCE LYON - FC NANTES FOOTAGE]
Bacha: Yeah, it wasn't an easy game because maybe in our heads, even if I think it's not really like that, but instinctively it's human nature and we underestimated them. FC Nantes came in with their game plan. They're a really good team, I was surprised. The first half was difficult. I think it's a little bit because exhaustion is starting to creep in. But the changes at half time did us some good and we were really efficient. The coach [Sonia Bompastor] yelled a bit at half time but it's normal. It's like that.
Carpenter: Yeah, I think fatigue comes into play there. I think it was our fifth or sixth game in a run. They were a different team, we hadn't really played them before. I think we can put that first half behind us and I think we really came out better in the second half. But yeah, I think we ended the game better than we started.
[LYON - FC NANTES GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Carpenter: Yeah, it was so nice to see Delphine [Cascarino] make her return from her ACL. Obviously it's such a long rehab, such a long journey. It's tough to have an injury and go through something like that, and it's her second one as well. But I think she's done an amazing job. You can see in the way she's come back, she still has her speed, has her footwork.
Bacha: It was a really good moment for Delphine, the return against FC Nantes. We saw her struggle, her mentality is just incredible. It's really hard to have the ACL injury happen twice, to have missed the World Cup when we were expecting her, we wanted her there. Now she had the mentality, she dug deep. I'm really happy to see her back because it will really do us good.
[GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D / LYON - SLAVIA PRAGUE GAME FOOTAGE]
Carpenter: Yeah, we knew we were first in the group and obviously qualified, but we also knew we needed to put out a strong performance [they did not]. We wanted to keep the flow going for how well we're doing this month [of January]. On game day, obviously not everything went to plan. Obviously I think fatigue played a little bit in that as well, but that's not really an excuse. We should be better. We had 10,000 people come and you know, the more people that come the better, at least for us. We want to perform well, put on a show, for them to come back again.
Bacha: First of all we have to thank the fans who come out and support us. They're becoming more and more, so we need to thank them and for them to continue coming out and supporting us. After, it was hard because - well personally, I could feel the exhaustion. Then Slavia [Prague] was playing with a really low block. They came to get something at Lyon, even if we were already first and already qualified. At the end of the day we're Olympique Lyonnais. It's not acceptable to have played that sort of game.
LYON - SLAVIA PRAGUE GAME FOOTAGE CONT'D]
Carpenter: Yeah, it was very frustrating. I think games like that, you want to play the next game very quickly after so you can have a good reaction.
Dabritz: We were a little disappointed because we weren't happy with our performance. We wanted to show to the public that we can put on good performances, they came for us. That's why we were a bit disappointed. Beyond that, we want to continue, we always want to improve, progress. We always want to give our best. But it's not always possible.
Bacha: I'd rather it happened to us then than get to the quarterfinals and you're knocked out I hope it will serve as a lesson to us.
Carpenter: No team is perfect in the world. Some teams have draws or a loss and it's not the end of the world. I think we need to remind ourselves that we're also human as well. Not every game is the best game. January is probably the biggest month we've had in a long time. We knew we had a lot of games, we had to get points, play well, perform. I think as a team we did that great, especially as we have some injuries at the moment as well so we had to adapt. I think the team has held up well. We're ready for February.

[CN] Victor’s Investment Date (Eng Translation)
⌚Warning⌚ This post contains detailed spoilers for a date, 投资之约, that is yet to be released in the global server! ♡
Tumblr media
[Translation Under The Cut]
┈┈ ◍♡◍ ┈┈┈ ◍♡◍ ┈┈
✧ [PART 1] ✧
Tumblr media
In contrast to the bustling daytime, Paris is embellished with a different appearance as the night descends. A short distance from the French window, we can also see the Eiffel Tower outside, adorned with its flowing lights.
I sit on the large cozy bed in the hotel and browse through the contract in my hands.
The purpose of this business trip was to enter into a long-term partnership with Prisme Inc., the first giant of French audio-visual companies.
As the largest shareholder of [MC’s Company Name], Victor also participated in the meetings.
Victor: This is already the third time you’ve giggled looking at this file tonight.
The mattress next to me sinks as that familiar temperature leans over.
Tumblr media
MC: This is, after all, the most significant affirmation of my and the entire team’s hard work.
Tumblr media
Victor glances at the official seals of [MC’s Company Name] and Prisme Inc.,  laid side-by-side, a smile stealing across the corners of his lips.
The number of Film and TV companies that have been able to collaborate with Prisme Inc. back in China can be counted on one’s fingers.
However, I also know that one of the key reasons they chose [MC’s Company Name] is because we have the strong backing of LFG.
MC: Thank you, CEO Victor, for coming to support me.
Tumblr media
Victor: There’s no need to thank me. You are the one who worked night and day to perfect the proposal; the credit is all yours.
He looks into my eyes, his gaze exuding completely undisguised praise.
Tumblr media
MC: It’s a pity, though. I heard that the famous investor Mr. Moyes is also one of Prisme’s shareholders.
MC: I thought I would have the opportunity to see him today.
This elderly gentleman is at the top of the list of the world’s wealthiest people.
While the financial crisis broke down many companies a few decades ago, he purchased and held his shares, acquired and merged companies at a steady pace. Within a few years, he became a prominent, influential entrepreneur.
Victor: Since the long-term collaboration has already been agreed upon, perhaps there will be opportunities to see him in the future.
Tumblr media
MC: You’re right~
I carefully put away the contract files and lean in closer to his face, grinning.
MC: Now, CEO Victor, can you tell me what you have in store for us next?
MC: You asked me to prepare for a seven-day itinerary, and it’s only been three days.
Tumblr media
Victor: Doesn’t a certain someone like surprises and mysticisms the most? The rest of the itinerary will be disclosed tomorrow.
This statement immediately sparks my curiosity.
MC: Let me make some deductions –– yesterday I saw you browsing on your phone for train tickets to Lyon.
MC: On this business trip, you’ve also brought a set of formal attires…
Tumblr media
I can’t make out any clues from Victor’s placid, unperturbed face. Just at this moment, the screen of his phone suddenly lights up.
I instantly catch a glimpse of the word “Lyon” in the email notification bar. Eagle-eyed and agile-handed, I fling him into the soft bedding and seize his phone.
He doesn’t get annoyed and simply raises his eyebrows slightly.
Victor: So this is your style of “deduction.”
Tumblr media
MC: As long as it gives the result!
Proud of myself, I smile at him and swipe open the email smoothly.
MC: “Dear Mr. Victor, we welcome you and your companion to participate in the four-day Moyes’ Economics Lecture Series starting tomorrow… ”
Tumblr media
MC: Mr. Moyes’ lecture series?!
I nearly hop up and down with joy when he sighs and jerks away the phone in my hand. With his other hand wrapped around my waist, he rolls over, making me sink beneath the coverlet as well.
Tumblr media
Victor: I knew you’d definitely make a din when you see it.
Victor: Sleep. I don’t want to catch the train tomorrow morning with a dummy still latching on to me to catch up on sleep.
┈┈ ◍♡◍ ┈┈┈ ◍♡◍ ┈┈
✧ [PART 2] ✧
Tumblr media
The next day we take an early train to Lyon.
The lecture series is being held in a hotel. After putting our luggage away, Victor and I walk into the conference room that the hotel has prepared for the lecture.
After sitting down in my seat side-by-side with Victor, I survey the doorway, my back straight as a ramrod.
Tumblr media
Victor: Don’t be so nervous.
Victor: I have listened to Mr. Moyes’ lectures before. The atmosphere was very relaxed.
Before I can ask anything in detail, the din of conversation gradually quietens down–– an elderly gentleman walks up to the front of the stage at a steady pace.
Even though time has left subtle ravines on his face, his smile filled with vigor makes him appear much younger.
Moyes: I’m very delighted to meet all of you here. I hope you all enjoy the rest of the time.
Moyes: Before we officially start discussing investments, I’d like to talk to everyone about something first that can easily influence investments –– “emotions.”
Moyes: If, at this very moment, you think of an existence that stirs up your emotions, that’s very good. Please write it down.
The ballpoint pen at my fingertips twirls as those fragments of everyday happiness and frustration naturally stream into my mind in a torrent.
When I return to my senses, the six letters “Victor” have already been written on the blank paper.
Tumblr media
Reminiscent of a drop of dew falling into the lake of my heart, it sends out ripples in circles. I turn my head, trying to peep at what the owner of this name has written.
But the notebook in front of him seems to have already been turned over, and what greets me is a brand new blank page.
Tumblr media
Victor turns his head slightly to the side, pressing his bent fingers against my head that is halfway there in an attempt for a peek.
I point to the big six letters “Victor” in my notebook and raise my eyebrows as a hint for him to “share intelligence.”
Tumblr media
His gaze hangs low as he looks at those six letters, the wisp of a smile flowing through his eyes.
Moyes, on the podium, claps his hands at this moment.
Moyes: So next, everyone, please bear in mind the answer you have written down––
Moyes: And be sure to stay away from it when you’re thinking about investment-related issues.
Tumblr media
MC: Eh?
Seeing the fraction of uncomprehending gazes, Moyes smiles.
Moyes: Some people may feel that a good frame of mind will make the decision-making smoother and more accurate.
Moyes: But, regardless of what kind of emotion it is, it will influence your judgment to a greater or lesser extent when thinking about investments.
Hearing this, I rub my nose and close my notebook with a bit of embarrassment.
Tumblr media
A faintly discernible soft chuckle drifts from the side. I pout and poke him gently under the tabletop.
The person I poked doesn’t even arch an eyebrow. He turns his hand over and gently clasps my troublesome hand. His finger pad strokes along the seams between my fingers, and the slightly tickling sensation makes me unable to resist shrinking.
Though my eyes are still on the podium, my train of thoughts briefly wanders to our tightly interlaced hands.
But the expression on the instigating culprit’s face remains utterly rock steady as he looks intently at the PPT screen on the podium, as though the little foul plays underneath the table have nothing to do with him whatsoever.
Tumblr media
Moyes: There is only one particular type of investment that requires a significant amount of emotional impact; because it has the potential to become the longest and the most important “investment” in your life.
Moyes changes the direction of the topic under discussion, looking over at Victor and me here with a smear of friendly teasing on his face.
Moyes: It’s the “love relationship.”
The temperature on my face ascends at a galloping speed as though I’ve been caught by the teacher doing little tricks in class.
Some chuckles of approval resound in the conference room, and some people shrug their shoulders indifferently.
Moyes: Those of you who wish to participate in this “investment,” I hope you guys will consider it carefully.
Moyes: The risks are very high. But of course, the returns will also be beyond the reach of any other investments.
My gaze involuntarily lands again on that name I’ve written down.
The hand under the table squeezes my palm – gently and solemnly.
┈┈ ◍♡◍ ┈┈┈ ◍♡◍ ┈┈
✧ [PART 3] ✧
Tumblr media
After the lecture, Mr. Moyes leaves us with a little “game.”
He’s asked us to either work alone or in teams to complete a simulation project depending on the circumstances of our own company.
Carrying the late-night takeout snacks in my arms –– black truffle cheese fries and creamy egg crêpes –– Victor and I weave our way into the public lounge of the hotel.
A number of  “classmates” who listened to the lecture have already gathered here. We find ourselves a seat by the window and put down the computer and takeout.
The instant I open the paper boxes, the tantalizing aroma of deep-fried food interweaving with the fragrant sweetness of the crêpes assaults my nostrils, making me unable to refrain from swallowing a mouthful of saliva.
Tumblr media
Victor: It seems that the morning lecture on “staying away from the elements that influence one’s emotions” wasn’t all that efficacious for a certain someone.
MC: Creative thinking and thinking about investments are not the same! And good emotions and carbohydrates are just as important!
MC: Moreover, how can you stay up all night to “catch up on homework” without fine food?
I twirl a french fry between my fingers and hold it up to him with a smile.
Tumblr media
MC: So, let’s “Cheers” to the task of our forthcoming partnership…
Halfway through my sentence, it suddenly occurs to me that perhaps someone here might have noticed Victor. This kind of childish behavior will affect his image, right?
Embarrassed, just as I’m about to retract my hand, the french fry in Victor’s hand has already gently touched mine.
Tumblr media
Victor: To our happy partnership.
While enjoying the delicious food, we begin to make a mind map of the overall concept based on the direction of our investigation. At this moment, two of the “classmates” from the lecture come over.
Entrepreneur A: Aren’t you Mr. Victor of LFG?
Seeing Victor nodding his head, they look really delighted.
Entrepreneur B: We have a few small questions related to financing that we would like to share with you guys. I wonder if it’d be convenient for the two of you?
Tumblr media
I look at Victor engrossingly, and when I see him returning my gaze, I gently close my eyes.
We encircle around a table and discuss the case regarding equity financing.
Entrepreneur A: One problem in my reasoning is that according to the national provisions, existing companies can only liquidate their equity in the secondary market after three years of being listed.
Tumblr media
Victor: In that case, it may be worthwhile to include the existing company as a subsidiary of the new company in the listing.
Victor draws circles on the paper. Now he doesn’t have that oppressive aura he has around him when he sits in the conference room and listens to the reports, the comfortable casual wears adding a few extra layers of nonchalance to him.
Most of the late-night snacks I bought have been wiped out by the end of this enriching and intense discussion. I can’t help but yawn three times in a row with the feeling of a satisfied stomach.
Tumblr media
Victor: How do you get tired after having your fill?
MC: All the blood heads towards the stomach for digestion…
Tumblr media
The curves of the tip of Victor’s brows turn a little helpless as he snaps his laptop shut, then stands up.
MC: Where are you going?
Victor: To prepare something refreshing for a sleepy dummy.
Tumblr media
Curious, I follow him all the way to the small bar outside the lounge before realizing that he is going to prepare coffee.
The mellow and rich fragrance evokes a thread of memories from not too long ago. A similar scenario seemed to have materialized back then too.
MC: Victor, do you still remember that competition you organized back then to analyze the failed acquisition of SE?
Tumblr media
Victor: How can I forget? The fact that a certain someone used to work against the clock till night and liked to eat fried food – none of it has changed at all.
[Tidbits]: They are talking about their “Evening Party Date” (already released in EN)~ :>
MC: You were my “examiner” at that time. In comparison, have I improved since then?
The answer to me is –– a cup of finely made latte.
Tumblr media
Victor: If you want to hear praise, just say it directly.
I take a light sip. The creamy notes laced with the faint fragrance of coffee nourish my taste buds.
MC: Thank you for the treat.
Tumblr media
Each with a cup of coffee in our hands, Victor and I walk into the small terrace of the lounge.
The fragrance of leaves weaves into the night air, clearing my head quite a bit.
MC: Listening to the lecture with so many people and discussing the topics makes me feel like I’m truly back on campus.
Tumblr media
Victor: And does that include being caught in the act by the teacher in class?
I give a wry grin.
MC: A few twists and turns on the way are what make the student life so vibrant. CEO Victor, haven’t you experienced the 20 must-do-things in your university life?
Victor: Such as?
Tumblr media
MC: Such as – binge-watching a drama with your dormitory roommate after the lights are turned off, sneakily sitting in on a lecture you didn’t sign up for…
I tilt my head, recalling the things that were popular on university campus.
MC: And then there’s also the nights of nervousness and heart palpitations of going on a date with the person you like in a deserted part of the campus.
Before I’ve even finished speaking, I suddenly feel an intense gaze on me.
Victor: A certain someone’s school life was “rich” indeed.
Victor tosses me a rather indifferent glance. I realize that he’s misunderstood me and hasten to explain.
Tumblr media
MC: I haven’t experienced the one I mentioned just now either!
Tumblr media
Victor: [STILL SULKY LOL]  Oh yeah?
I can’t discern either delight or anger from Victor’s voice. He simply rests one arm on the balcony in front of me. Though his action seems casual, it blocks all the ways of exit for me.
His body leans forward slightly, adding a layer of fervently scorching warmth to the coolness of the night.
Before I can muster the strength to say another word, the sound of laughter passes through the other end of the floor-to-ceiling curtains behind me.
Entrepreneur A: I think I saw CEO Victor here just now. How come he disappeared?
Entrepreneur B: Probably took advantage of the break and went out on a date?
When they are far away, I find that I’ve been holding my breath at some point. The man in front of me lowers his gaze as he looks at me, the bright moonlight haloing him with a silvery frosting.
Tumblr media
Victor: [feigning sulkiness haha]  What are you so nervous about?
Tumblr media
MC: [sulking biiig time]  I’m not like the Great CEO who doesn’t blush, or his heart doesn’t pound wildly no matter what happens.
A soft laugh disperses into the dim lights of the night, and my ears grow even hotter.
MC: …are we going back?
He slowly lowers his head, reducing the already nose-to-nose distance between us to zero. Our intertwined breathing dyes this unique night with an ambiguous hue.
Tumblr media
Victor: [HIS VOOICEEE]  There’s no rush. We still have time for a cup of coffee.
┈┈ ◍♡◍ ┈┈┈ ◍♡◍ ┈┈
✧ [PART 4] ✧
Tumblr media
Four days have flown by in a flash. On the last day of the lecture series, we share the projects we’ve been working on over the past few days.
Amidst the applause, Moyes steps up on the stage to deliver the final summary.
Moyes: Thank you all for bringing your marvelous participation. I’ve benefitted from this too.
Moyes: I hope everyone will keep in mind – don’t fight for money as though your life depends on it, instead let money “work” for you.
Tumblr media
A special cocktail party has been arranged at the end of the lecture for everyone to make friends and create networks.
After I’ve added quite a few people’s contact details, I sit on a stool on the side to rest and look at Victor, who is surrounded by people.
The black tuxedo outlines the body posture of his tall and straight figure in utter perfection, giving an elegant gentlemanly temperament to each one of his movements and gestures.
As half a glass of red wine travels down my throat, I feel my entire being warming up.
I watch as Victor grows larger and larger in my field of view and finally stops in front of me, my brain somewhat sluggish.
Tumblr media
Victor: Tired?
I nod indolently, seeing him draw the wine glass out of my hand and take my hand in his in one smooth motion.
Victor: Let’s go out and get you sobered up.
Tumblr media
Misty fine rain is drizzling outside. Victor borrows a long-handled umbrella from the hotel and gathers me to him under it.
I lean on Victor as we slowly walk on the white-stone ground that exudes the smell of history.
The grey sky stretches out infinitely into the distance, the world quiet and gentle.
MC: By the way, you mentioned that you came to listen to the lecture series last time. When was that?
Tumblr media
Victor: Just shortly after founding LFG.
MC: So that’s... you still hadn’t graduated from university then?
Seeing his tacit green light, I imagine the Victor who had just receded from his childlike appearance and nature, and my eyes can’t help but crinkle into a smile.
MC: Did you all do projects after the lectures back then too?
MC: Did you also use to drink coffee in the middle of the night and watch the night scenery?
Tumblr media
Victor: So many questions.
He tilts the umbrella a little more towards my side, patiently answering every question.
Tumblr media
Victor: Laying out mini-games is a usual practice of Mr. Moyes’ lectures, though it was another topic the last time.
Victor: Drinking coffee and watching the night scenery was simply a way to rest, just like a certain someone likes to eat late-night snacks in the middle of the night while catching up on homework.
The delicious, deep fried late-night snacks and the hand-ground coffee seem to have surmounted the reaches of time, slowly entangling us together before we met.
Tumblr media
I don’t know what suddenly has come to his mind, but a smile fixes itself on his lips.
Victor: There is one question which he asked the last time as well. It’s about the emotional elements that can influence your investment.
I tilt my head, locking eyes with Victor.
Tumblr media
Victor: But last time, I didn’t write anything.
Victor: Several years have passed, and now many answers have been poured out on my blank paper.
In that pair of deep, incandescent eyes, I’m the one and only reflection. It causes me to be incapable of helping myself from taking another step closer to him.
Tumblr media
MC: And, is that answer right in front of your eyes?
His soft gaze lands on the corners of my lips that I’m unable to stop from turning up to their ends. Victor doesn’t reply and just looks at me deeply.
Tumblr media
Victor: I see the smile at the corners of your lips is about to fly.
Tumblr media
MC: There is nothing more indomitable in this world than “being able to influence Victor.”
MC: But I’ll have to stay away from you when you’re thinking about investment-related matters in the future, lest CEO Victor makes a mistake in his work.
He tightens his arm around me as he draws me to himself, the glint of a certainty flashing in his eyes.
Tumblr media
Victor: [the tease and the confidence asksdksdk]  You can give it a try for yourself and see if you have that ability.
We walk up to an old-fashioned small train station. The sound of a train passing over the tracks drifts from not afar, accompanied by the sound of bells ringing coming from the Dome Bell Tower.
It’s as though this is a sign that the day is coming to an end.
As the feather-like drizzle gradually stops, the horizon reveals the color of a warm, deep rose-tinted sky.
I can’t help but slow down in my footsteps, wanting to make this time go even a little bit slower.
Victor turns his head and seems to sense my emotions.
Victor: Just wait here, and don’t run around.
The black view of his back soon disappears around the corner of the street. When he returns, he has a double train ticket clutched in his hand.
Tumblr media
Victor: This train station has a sightseeing ride around the city, and this just happens to be the last one left right now.
Victor’s back is faced against the glow of sunset, the twilight increasing the tenderness around him a little more.
He gently clasps his black hat to his chest, like a gentleman walking out of an old silent film, and inviting his beloved woman to dance with the tender sentiments harbored in the depths of his heart.
Victor: [SCREEEAMSSS AND DIES]  May I invite you to ride with me? Mademoiselle.
I lift the hem of my skirt slightly in response to the invitation, smiling as I take his hand.
Tumblr media
MC: Of course.
His five fingers pass through the seams of mine, with a gentle yet irresistible strength.
MC: This doesn’t seem like a gentleman’s way of holding hands, does it?
Victor: [HIS VOICE. DIES 2.0]  Before being a gentleman, I am a businessman.
Victor: [HIS VOICE. DIES 3.0]  This is, after all, the one and only “investment” I want to invest in forever. I must hold on tight.
He lowers his head slightly. The glow of sunset ignites a blaze in those deep eyes, and it streams down our ten interlocked fingers, flowing into my heart that he has set on fire.
I gently sway our interlaced hands and wink at him.
MC: In that case, I’ll have to work harder to become your most worthwhile “investment.”
Tumblr media
MC: However, Mr. Moyes also said that the return of this investment would be significant, and so risks would be just as high.
MC: Is CEO Victor not afraid of suffering loss? After all, I’m certain I will get a steady return and won’t suffer any loss from my investment.
Victor: [DIES 5.0]  When have I ever been afraid of risk?
His raspy, deep and low voice is even more intoxicating than the red wine at the party. I stand lightly on my tiptoes, meeting the breath that is slowly approaching me.
Our elongated shadows gently overlap, blending together and immersing in the soft dusk.
Tumblr media
Victor: [BLESS YOU WU LEI]  I’ve been ready with all my patience and energy to carry it out since a long time ago.

Wait, because I agree with you. I also feel like music is missing something. But I’m not sure if it can be pinpointed to one thing but more like a combination of things. Sometimes people use the excuse of people being older and that’s why they have a problem with some of today’s music but I’m GenZ and even I notice something is missing. I actually find myself listening to alot of older music and watching old performances now. If you have any music recommendations I’d love to hear them. Any genre
Oh anon, you are sending me down my favorite road!
I like the music today but it’s not about being older and just not liking something. I’m not old by any means! Being 30 is not old Or mean you don’t get todays music
Most of the songs that become viral, that people love on TikTok, a top 10 song for a few weeks, or just the “it” person of the moment, they don’t have the longevity factor. They just don’t!
20 years from now, no one will be talking about a good 75% of the music today. They will talk about Chris Stapleton, Adele, Taylor Swift, and maybe Harry Styles and maybe Jack Harlow:
The substance I’m talking about is definitely found in a few of their songs. Especially with Adele. Taylor is just up and down for me and a lot is repetitive 🤷🏽‍♀️.
Chris Stapleton is the singer they will talk about in 20 years. He had the longevity. He has the voice. He writes songs that reach your soul no matter what they are about. That’s what this generation needs. Not the next TikTok viral song.
I make it a point to turn older songs on in the car with my son, niece, and nephew. I want them to know about The Eagles, Al Green, Journey, Prince, Salt n Peppa, tupac, NSYNC, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Nelly, Brandy, boys II men, nas, usher, Reba mcentire, brooks and Dunn, faith hill, George strait, George jones, Johnny cash, frank sinatra, the temptations, Aretha Franklin, And the list goes on! I want to give them a variety!
I will tell you that my all time favorite video and favorite performances across the board is BB King with Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, and Jimmie Vaughan playing The Thrill is Gone. Hands down the best performance there ever was.
While mentioning Chris Stapleton, go watch his Grammy performance and CMA Awards performance of Cold. Omg will it blow you away! Watching reaction videos of Chris Stapleton is one of my favorite things to do on YouTube lol.
I’ve been on a Journey kick as of late. So from them:
Faithfully
Who’s Cryin Now
Don’t stop believing
Open arms
Lights
Eagles (my favorite band of all time)
hotel California
Desperado
Take it easy
Witchy woman
Lyon’ eyes
Take it to the limit
Country songs to listen to:
Stand by your man — Tammy Wynette(watch the show on showtime and George jones and Tammy Wynette)
Carrying your love with me — George strait
You never even called me by my name — David Allan coe (the version with Merle haggard, Waylon Jennings, and Charlie pride) you will love this song! I’ve lost count the number of times I sung this while out in a bar!
Fancy — Reba McEntire
Breathe — Faith Hill
Whiskey Lullaby — Brad Paisley
Some more random ones:
Tracy Chapman!!! Please!!! Especially “Give me one reason” and “Fast Cars”.
Al Green: the man has one of the best voices of ALL TIME! My son has to listen to “Love and Happiness” on the way to school every morning! But also “Let’s stay together” and “how can you men a broken heart”
Lynard Skynard’s “Simple Man” is truly just a great song. The meaning behind it and just the entire song is just so great.
Anything by Eric Clapton! Wonderful tonight, Cocaine, Layla (the mtv unplugged is my favorite version)
A few more:
unchained melody— righteous brothers
Anything ACDC(check out the live performance of Hells Bells in River Plate)
Living on a prayer — Bon Jovi
Early Mariah Carey—just the entire Butterfly album or DayDream album
Eminem
To understand Eminem, you have to start at the beginning. I watched his progression from the beginning and it is amazing what he was able to do. The man is one of the greats when it comes to rappers. No one will ever break the records he set. The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show are two of the greatest of all time!

A BRIDGE TOO NOIR
This past weekend Your Humble Narrator made his way west to attend the 25th annual Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival at the Camelot Theatre in Palm Springs, California.
Tumblr media
As in past years, the fest offered a slate of black-and-white crime films from the '40s and '50s. Also as in past years, some of them inevitably strained the definition of noir; this year's schedule included a Sherlock Holmes movie, 1944's The Scarlet Claw, and a Western, Day of the Outlaw (1959). But so what? The definition of noir as a genre is nebulous anyway. The point is that the chance to see cool old flicks like these on a movie screen doesn't come along every day. For sheer entertainment, this may be the most reliably enjoyable film festival in the country.
Also on the schedule were such familiar entries as the John Garfield boxing drama Body and Soul (1947), Anthony Mann's outstanding and still relevant 1949 immigration thriller Border Incident, with George Murphy and Ricardo Montalban, and the hard-boiled thrillers Dead Reckoning (1947) and The Enforcer (1951), both starring noir king Humphrey Bogart. But some of us are most likely to be drawn to the relative obscurities.
Tumblr media
This year, for instance, brought the opportunity to see No Man of Her Own (1950). In his onstage introduction to the film at the Camelot, TCM Noir Alley host Eddie Muller repeatedly referred to star Barbara Stanwyck as "the greatest actress in movie history." I'd certainly put her in the top five, anyway, and she's in fine, intense form in this adaptation of the classic Cornell Woolrich novel I Married a Dead Man (originally published under his pseudonym, William Irish).
She plays the heck out of a down-on-her-luck pregnant woman who, through circumstances generously described as coincidental, is able to pass herself off as the new daughter-in-law of a wealthy couple whose son has just died. Despite the obvious absurdities of the plot, the film is engrossing and even moving because of Stanwyck's impassioned star performance, and a fine supporting cast including John Lund, Jane Cowl, Phyllis Thaxter, Richard Denning, Milburn Stone, Carole Matthews as no-nonsense femme fatale and Lyle Bettger in a despicable turn as Stanwyck's sneering blackmailer.
The movie also had, for me, a madeleine of Proustian remembrance: Though I hadn't thought about it in years, the scene in which Stanwyck and Thaxter are upended in a train crash came back to me from childhood with the vividness of an acid flashback. I don't think I saw any of the rest of it back then, but that tidbit had been waiting in the memory banks to be revived for at least half a century.
Tumblr media
Other gems this year included Escape in the Fog (1945), with the adorable young Nina Foch dodging Axis spies in San Francisco, and the compelling Southern thriller Woman in Hiding, from 1950.
Tumblr media
The woman in question is Ida Lupino, who realizes she's made a major mistake marrying creepy Stephen McNally before the honeymoon even starts. Lupino's delicate beauty contrasts with her gutsy, heartfelt spirit, and director Michael Gordon manages a Hitchcock-worthy sequence set in the stairwell of a hotel. The cast includes, along with Lupino's real-life husband Howard Duff, a bit role by Joe Besser, a later-vintage replacement member of the Three Stooges.
Tumblr media
But maybe the real oddity of the schedule was Across the Bridge (1957), a British feature based on a Graham Greene short story and starring a mannered and sweaty Rod Steiger--with a German accent, no less!--as a short-fused white-collar criminal dodging extradition in a Mexican border town. On his way south he's thrown another man, who he resembles, off the train and stolen his passport, but he ends up with this guy's soulful-faced spaniel, Delores, dogging his footsteps (sorry) and gazing reproachfully up at him.
Directed by Ken Annakin, Across the Bridge was shown in Palm Springs in a fairly crappy digital copy, but the presenter assured us that they're working to get it properly restored. I hope they succeed. It's just about the most Graham Greene-ish thing ever, full of moral limbo south of the border and Mexican women wearing prominent crucifixes. And of course it's via "Delores" (suffering) that Steiger's rotten fugitive finds a fateful sort of redemption. In terms of performance, by the way, even full-tilt Stieger is no match for the beautiful Delores, who steals the movie like a dropped potato chip.

Jane the Virgin
“Jane the Virgin” is a comedy romantic-drama series that focuses on Jane Villanueva, a Mexican/Venezuelan/American young woman living in Miami with her mother and grandmother. Jane has taken after her grandmother’s religious ways, but a medical mistake has left her pregnant as a religious virgin. The storyline relates to representation of Latinx people in media and the adversity that Latinx people face in the name of discrimination in the U.S.
Tumblr media
The series in rich Latinx culture and identities, focusing on a multigenerational Latinx family. Not only this, but we also see intersectionality presented between Latinx culture, religion, and especially women.  Historically, work in the United States has been segregated, leaving professional positions to white people. For example, “… only 5 percent of the Mexicans were in professional and managerial occupations in 1920…” (Takaki, 2008). Providing contrast to this historic segregation of Latinx work in the U.S., Jane is presented as an independent, educated, and ambitious Latina woman who begins her career as a teacher and ultimately becomes a published writer. An important marker of the identity of these characters is the frequent presence of bilingualism. Jane speaks English with no accent, while also occasionally speaking Spanish at home with her grandmother who speaks very little English. Alba (Jane’s grandma) speaking Spanish here. There is a stereotype in the culture of the U.S. that Hispanics all have an accent when speaking English, which both Jane and her mother contradict. The show features the characters speaking Spanish and English to each other which is refreshing to see in a usual homogenic white English-speaking media. The language “issue” is addressed in “Chapter 61” while Jane’s grandmother is working in the giftshop of a hotel and speaks Spanish to her coworker. A woman overhears and tells her to learn English if she’s in America. Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon situation for many Hispanics living in the U.S., as I know many people who have personally experienced this same situation.
Tumblr media
“Jane the Virgin” demonstrates the challenges and resilience of Latinx people in a predominantly white society. On top of this, characters maintain cultural ties and preserve their language, challenging the need of “total assimilation”, or losing their individuality to become more Americanized. The series presents an important Latinx storyline without ever explicitly stating that it is about Latinx representation. It is simply embedded into the show, giving the series an authentic feel that many Latinx communities can relate to (well, at least the principles of the story). “Jane the Virgin” reflect a key concept of our readings, how can visual culture perpetuate or challenge stereotypes? As addressed earlier, the show features a female lead who is educated, accomplished, driven, and professional. The characters also challenge the accent stereotype apparent in our culture. The show does a little bit of perpetuating AND challenging the stereotype of Latinas being hypersexual, as Jane is a religious virgin (at least through most of the show), yet her mother contributes to this hypersexual stereotype. Learn more about this stereotype here.

[ad_1] Gawking at a twinkling Eiffel Tower, cramming into the Mona Lisa’s tiptoeing crowd, and tipsily serenading passers-by in scant French à la Moulin Rouge are some of France’s famed first-time experiences – well, they were mine, anyway. But if you’re aspiring for more than a pre-prepared, Paris-heavy checklist, you’ll want to venture beyond the crème de la crème capital to embrace all of that France has to offer. Oui, the world’s most visited country has an Eiffel Tower-sized list of activities, something I can attest to after a dozen or so visits. Powderchasers should beeline to the southeast for perfect winter pistes, summer sun-seekers can sizzle on the seductive southern shorelines of the Cote d’Azur or Corsica, while history-inclined travellers will find stories along Normandy’s D-Day beaches and its isolated island abbey.  And then there’s all that food and wine. Oh là là! Diving into France’s joie de vivre is as effortless as devouring your way through some of Europe’s best food cities, such as bouchon-heavy Lyon or perfectly wine-paired Bordeaux. But the menu doesn’t end there. From flitting between lavender blooms to micronation border-hopping, these are my picks of the best things to do in France. Taste your way through an appellation (or two) Madame et monsieur, what will it be? An oaked Chablis, light and fresh Beaujolais, or a criminally good Châteauneuf-du-Pape? Whichever you order, you’ll be embracing one of France’s best experiences: sampling a selection of the world’s finest wines. But in addition to popping corks at closely huddled tables, factor in a delicious Domaine visit, a boozy wine marathon, or an overnight vineyard stay to exhaustively appreciate the land of award-winning vintners and seriously credential-clad sommeliers. Settling into a tasting room, perhaps in a château or a more humble farmhouse, is the quickest way to gain intimate knowledge of France’s top-notch vins. When I worked in a French restaurant in London, one of the job’s greatest joys was occasional trips across the channel to meet knowledgeable makers and hand-select new vintages for the wine list – an essential “research experience” I think everyone should build have. And you won’t even have to travel far to say santé amongst the vines. Wineries are everywhere. There are the most famous appellations, of course, such as Bordeaux and Champagne – less than two hours from Paris – but don’t overlook the likes of Alsace, easy to explore if you’re at Colmar’s Christmas markets, or the very palatable rosés of Province’s vines, a perfect detour on a French Riviera road trip. The bad news? A designated driver in France is a must. View from the scenic Bordeaux to Bergac train which slices through vineyards Embark on a river cruise L’Hexagone is handsome from all angles, but perhaps even more so when cinematic castles and Cézanne-inspiring countryside unhurriedly glide by. For a trip with distinction – one free of traffic and hotel-hopping – why not explore France’s highlights on a river cruise? Like the country’s wine list, the waterway prospects are extensive, with cruises along the Dordogne, into the Loire Valley, or tracing the border-crossing Rhine all bundling many of France’s best experiences into one dreamy getaway. The most obvious first-time route would be a Seine river cruise from Paris. Leaving the city of love in your wake, a one-week cruise will smuggle you away to Calvados distilleries, Rouen’s jaw-dropping cathedral, and the half-timbered houses of Honfleur. For something slightly ‘offbeat’, consider the Loire Valley, journeying in a barge along the River Cher to see the 17th-century, river-crossing Château de Chenonceau. Or begin your waterway love affair in Lyon by sailing down the Rhône for terraced vineyard views en route to Provence’s vivid lavender and limestone towns. Whichever ship you board, you can be sure of a bon voyage. Whether you’re cruising the Seine or gliding down the Rhône, a river cruise in France affords another vantage point
Stay in a château Not keen on a cabin? No problem. There’s no need to set sail to upgrade your France sleeping experience. How about an equally indulgent night or two in a château? You might also be suprised at how affordable it can be. Sure, there are some out-of-this-world chateaux with equally eye-watering prices – the cost of one night at Airelles Château de Versailles can make a river cruise seem cheap – but hunt around for a small, family-run pick, and you can have your champagne moment at (nearly) lemonade prices. Why? Because there are thousands of these stately residences speckling the county. Unlike in the Middle Ages, when the term only referred to imposing castles and regal palaces, its use expanded to cover any large, decadent dwelling over the centuries. All excellent news for those of us on a budget. My first time feeling like French aristocracy (the good kind, not the post-revolution guillotine kind) was sinking into a four-poster bed in the bubblegum-painted Château Hôtel du Colombier near St Malo – and it was barely any more expensive than a hotel in town. So, widen those hotel searches, hunt out a regal countryside retreat, and regale yourself with one of the most luxurious things to do in France. Staying at Château Hôtel du Colombier was a fantastic experience See the lavender blooms Chances are you’ve seen a vibrant, violet-hued image of France where big skies meet endless lavender fields. And if you have, I’ll bet you want to tread through them, breathing in the sweet scent of blooms soundtracked by buzzing bees. Well, you’re not alone. A visit to Provence’s lavender fields is one of the most popular activities in France. Thousands flock to Luberon and Valensole from late June until early August to see this colourful, camera-friendly extravaganza. Advanced planning to snag accommodation is therefore critical, but be aware that in recent years, with climate change, there have also been shifts in when the lavender blooms. If the idea of expensive stays and crowded fields doesn’t sound appealing, follow my lead and head to Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in mid to late June instead. Last year, I spent some delightful days around Gringan and Montélimar in the Drôme, touring pretty fields, enjoying fair prices, and barely sharing the spectacle with another soul. Being slightly further north and not sporting the Provence label, this region has remained (slightly more) unsung. You might see more of the slightly shorter lavandin than true lavender up here, but honestly, it’s an almost unnoticeable trade-off. Seeing the blooming lavender around Grignan Pop to a micronation Fancy racking up a few more (imaginary) passport stamps on your trip to France? You’re in luck. In the south, you can nip across to two of Europe’s smallest countries, Andorra and Monaco. Plus, border-hopping to Luxembourg is also on the cards. But be warned, Europe’s microstates are small in landmass but gigantic in price. Little is cheap in these tiny corners. Hence, a fleeting day trip can be a France must-do rather than a stand-alone trip.  Monaco, hemmed in by France’s Cote d’Azur, is a quick train ride from Nice. Or an even shorter helicopter ride if you’re as lucky as I was at Monaco’s famed Monte-Carlo Casino and decide to splash the cash on your transfer back. Its pocket-size is perfect for a whirlwind visit, and you’ll have time to tour the 15th-century Prince’s Palace (come around 11 am for the Changing of the Guard), amble around pretty gardens, and see the fascinating Grand Prix circuit, which is in fact formed of the nation’s normal roads. Better still, time your visit for late May or June and get your Formula 1 tickets in advance to see the real deal. Pop to micro-nation Monaco for casinos, race tracks and wealth Across the other side of France, landlocked Andorra hides away in the Pyrenees mountain range, Spain just beyond. In winter, expect plenty of snow, while hiking and tax-free shopping rule supreme in summer. Luxembourg, however, is oh-so dreamy, and I’d argue that it deserves more than a day trip.
Spend a night or two falling in love with the fairytale-like, multi-layered Old Quarters of Luxembourg City, and you’ll likely agree with me that it’s one of Europe’s most underrated cities. Medieval Annecy is one of France’s prettiest cities (Top image: SUP on Lake Annecy) Slip away to medieval villages and towns Going off the beaten path in Europe is a delight, one that France elevates to another level. This country has gorgeous medieval villages and storied half-timbered hilltowns down to a tee. From walled Fougères in Brittany, which could have been plucked straight from a pop-up Disney book, to castle-crowned Najac in often-overlooked Occitania, you’ll soon stumble on a dreamy detour on any countryside road trip. And have you seen Semur-en-Auxois? Chef’s kiss! But these pretty villages aren’t just ten a penny; they are all packed with their own only-in-France experiences. Walking the ramparts in outrageously handsome Carcassonne before chowing down on slow stewed cassoulet. Crossing the cobbles of postcard-perfect Annecy to SUP atop Alpine lakes and admire canal-splitting turrets. Or kayaking along the Dordogne to see Bergerac’s beauty from another angle. These are just some of my favourite French memories. Seriously, do yourself a favour and forgo the cities for a side trip – or ideally, a longer sojourn – and get to see France’s more timeless side. It’s easy to spend a day, or longer, exploring the Louvre’s vast collection Linger a little longer in the Louvre Nearly everyone will tell you that visiting the Louvre Museum is one of the best things to do in France. And to an extent, I agree. However, I can also understand why people walk away wondering what all the fuss is about. Sure, this is undoubtedly one of the greatest museums and collections in the world – if you’re into it. But if you’re only coming to spot the Mona Lisa, which, to pre-warn you, involves quite an intensely crowded, camera-wielding experience, you might leave less than impressed. The Louvre is a museum that needs time. There’s a six-figure collection to admire here that could easily keep art aficionados engaged for days. If you can only spare an hour or two, missing some of the most spectacular pieces can be easy. My advice is to consider if it’s worth your time on a quick Paris getaway, especially given there is no shortage of other excellent museums and attractions across the capital and country. Or, perhaps join one of the fantastic guided tours, which not only showcase the best pieces in a short time frame but also explain some history about the magnificent building, part of which is a former Royal Palace.  Lyon’s Old Town is packed with bouchons, ideal for tasing the city’s traditional sausage-led dishes Eat everything  Charcuterie. Oozing cheeses. Refined cooking methods. Simple yet sublime sauces. The can’t-be-rivalled now UNESCO-listed baguettes. A well-seasoned, seafood-packed Bouillabaisse on a summer’s day in Marseille. Savoury, breakfast-stuffed galettes or freshly baked all-butter croissants. Bon appétit! Welcome to French gastronomy, where the degustation is endless. It’s no stretch to say that eating is one of the most tempting reasons to visit France, and you’ll tastebuds will be dancing from the very first hors-d’œuvre. Sure, it’s a cliché. But to be fair, the French invented that word, as they did the countless acclaimed dishes. Just ensure your à la carte escapade extends well beyond the big hitters. Forget escargot, macarons, and moules frites for a minute – especially the last one, as the Belgians would like a word – and extend your palate to all the provincial dishes. Whether you’re dining in one of Lyon’s many bouchon restaurants where sausages in all forms are the order of the day, trying the fatty-potato mix of Truffade in Clermont-Ferrand – the birthplace of the MICHELIN Guide – or having fresh Fine de Claire oysters shucked tableside in coastal Marennes, all the regional delights are delectable. Forget Disneyland and enjoy the fairytale feeling of Mont Saint-Michel instead
Make for Mont St Michel From an overlooked islet to a monastery, convent and even prison, the unique island of Mont St Michel has built quite the curriculum vitae over the centuries. Nowadays, crossing the water-flanked bridge to the abbey-crowned island is one of Northern France’s top things to do for millions of visitors. Long gone are the days when only pilgrims ventured to this less-than-easy-to-access coastal outpost, which first gained religious buildings in the 8th century. Not that it’s all changed. The coastal constant of high tide cutting off the island from the rest of Normandy remains the same, though the more modern, permanent road makes access far easier than the previously twice-a-day submerged footpath.  Fascinating stuff, right? Well, it gets even cooler when you realise you can stay overnight. Pick from a handful of heritage hotels, such as Hotel Le Mouton Blanc, housed in a 14th-century half-timbered building, for a memorable sleep. Then, enjoy exploring the Gothic Abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel, walking the ramparts, and picnicking in the gardens – after dark, with the daytrippers long gone, it’s arguably even more enchanting. Plan around the full moon, when the tides are most elevated, and you might witness the road completely underwater, allowing you to experience Mont St Michel as it was always intended to be: private and secluded.  Nice is the French Riviera’s crown jewel, but there are plenty of other adorable places to pick from Roadtrip the French Riviera From St Malo’s wave-battered, northern coastline to the gin-clear shores of sun-kissed Corsica, France earns bragging rights for its beaches. However, no other part of the country can compare to the French Riviera for worldwide magnetism. Yes, the Côte d’Azur, to use its formal name, is a French-language superlative: it’s très chic, luxe, and oh so élégant. Setting off on a road trip along the belles of French beaches will show you the best of it beyond fashionable Nice, the Riviera’s de facto capital, or cinematic-focused Cannes. Stretching from Menton on the Italian border to Cassis (depending on who you ask) near Marseille, this roughly 260-kilometre coastal road trip crosses some of Europe’s best beaches, making it one of the best things you can do in France when the sun is shining. Marvel at Menton’s pastel-hued seaside homes and dense lemon groves, track Monaco’s race track, splurge amongst Saint-Tropez’s trendsetters and slow down for a second in postcard-perfect Sanary. Be sure to pack a swimsuit, as once you’ve passed the pebbly beaches in and around Nice, you’ll be treated to spectacular sandy shorelines. Pick from the powdery sands of Plage de la Garoupe for a cape-yet-city coastal retreat or Plage de Bonporteau for a proper bay bolthole. Fancy throwing a few islands into the mix? Hop on a catamaran to Port-Cros National Park. Just maybe avoid August when it seems the whole of France is sizzling on the shores of the Côte d’Azur.  Caen is a fantastic French city break easily reachable by ferry from the UK Book a city break beyond Paris Some would say Paris is the best city break in France. I’d say au contraire. Sure, it’s one of the world’s most lusted-for cities, but there are plenty of reasons you might not become a super fan. Have you heard of Paris syndrome? It’s a terrible culture shock that traumatises some unsuspecting Japanese visitors in much the same way as Emily terrorises Parisians. In truth, it took me three visits to Paris before I started to see what the fuss was about. But I digress. The point is there are some serious contenders to rival the capital. Lyon is up there. You get the river strolls, first-class dining, romantic Old Town and hill-topping Basilica but wrapped up in a much more manageable marvel. Bordeaux? Yes, please. This charismatic city is about much more than wines, though they are a good mid-day sip between exploring the numerous museums and pretty corners that “little Paris” offers. Think Marseille is a gritty port city? Think again. It’s a culture-packed Mediterranean city reborn.
Then there are all the smaller cities, which might not have the City of Light’s dazzle but still boast some of France’s best things to do. Caen’s Abbey is a sight to behold, playful Nantes, with its mechanical animal marvels, is a perfect weekend getaway, and Grenoble packs a cultural punch even when snow isn’t falling. Paris is an absolute must-visit – just be sure to return to France to explore more of the good stuff. Top: Château Chenonceau | Bottom: Les 3 Valles [ad_2] Source link

Teamwork makes the dream work
Team away day with MBE Franchise Partner, Peter Lyons
Peter Lyons is one of MBE UK & Ireland’s longest-serving franchise partners, opening his first store in Marylebone High Street, London, over 25 years ago. His five highly successful central-London stores regularly top the company’s total sales chart across the network and he is a dedicated champion of the MBE brand.
Peter is committed to developing his team by giving employees a career path, celebrating success and rewarding hard work. Inspired by the performance of his centres, which had shown a 5% growth on the previous year and delivered a great first quarter, Peter felt the best way to thank and motivate his team this summer was to combine a review with some training and team-building activities that would take them out of their everyday environment. And what better way to do this than whisking them off to a five-star hotel for two days on the south coast, combined with a sail on the Solent?
Tumblr media
Peter says: “Twelve of us met in the Kensington store and travelled to our hotel in Southampton for individual presentations on store performance and the chance for everyone to share ideas. Everyone had their own sumptuous room.
“In the evening we wined and dined out until the early hours. After an early start the next day for the director’s review, we all boarded a luxury yacht to take us up the Hamble river, over to the Isle of Wight and around The Needles.”
Tumblr media
The team then had a fabulous lunch at The Hut restaurant at Colwell Bay. (If you haven’t checked it out, it’s well worth a look!)
“We returned home that evening,” continues Peter, “for a refreshed and invigorated start to the second half of the year with a renewed focus on accelerated growth and excellent service. I’m certain the whole team enjoyed the trip and that it helped motivate them to continue to proudly represent the Mail Boxes Etc. brand.”
