for a WHILE now i've had an idea for an instrument i call the OPTIGURDY that is part optical sound synthesizer utilizing a tonewheel (a la optigan) but played like a hurdy gurdy where the wheel is hand cranked to alter frequency and the keys switch the active phototransistor with one for each track on the wheel but i have rudimentary at best knowledge of electronics so the idea has collected dust haunting my mind.
and now i have just discovered someone already made it.

anyway my trans Devo headcanons:
He got a tonewheel for his birthday when he was 16, and that's where he learned what being queer was from Seldom's broadcasts. He identified as a lesbian pretty strongly for a while, but he always kinda knew that wasn't quite it. He was 17ish when he finally admitted to himself he was trans. (and once he started perceiving himself as a man more often, he realized he was bi -- he just hated the idea of being with a guy as a girl)
He's not a binary/monogender trans guy. BUT he is in heavy denial about it. He'll get there eventually...
Seldom gave him guy's clothes when he came to his school, but they're all very basic and colorless and boring. He was never a big fan of them. He didn't really come into his own with masculine presentation until Nermal's Pile; she lets him try out whatever he wants. He's still kinda feeling things out, but he's way happier and has a lot more fun with it now.
Hair length isn't strongly gendered in Founders' Wake, it’s more tied to practicality. Guidance always kept his at shoulder-length and never let him change it at all. He was growing it out after leaving, but after confronting Orlean in the infinite clam he had a breakdown and chopped it all off. Amber helped him tidy it up and he's kept it short ever since.
There's some sort of magic HRT in Founders Wake, but since magic is rationed he hasn't gotten on it yet. Seldom was helping him with it; he's on a waiting list.
His chest dysphoria used to be a lot worse, he did a lot of unsafe homemade binding back at the parish, which gave him chronic back pain. Seldom convinced him to stop and got him a proper binder. Even that he can't wear too often cuz of his pain. It sucked a lot at first, but he's started to make peace with his chest and his dysphoria isn't quite as bad. He still binds more than he probably should though.
He has a decent amount of bottom dysphoria, he packs pretty much constantly.
The name Damian is the one he first picked out when he was accepting himself, as a replacement for his birth name (not Devotion, the Cern one). But he started to really hate being called Devotion, and Devo was something he could spin as a nickname without raising suspicion. Guidance hated it and told people not to use it, but at least a few people did, so when it came time to pick a new name, he was attached enough to it he went with that instead of Damian Cern (also cuz his relationship with the Cerns is. complicated.)
(The Cerns do call him Damian, but Tolliver had no idea, he isn't exactly a part of family dinner. Last he heard he had some little sister who he’d never met. So when Devo was like "my real name is... Damian Cern" Tolliver's response was a cover for him internally going "what the fuck what the fuck since when do i have a relative named Damian hold on????? did i forget a cousin or something????????? oh my god this is humiliating" Devo does not clarify and Tolliver is too proud to admit to not knowing so it's a good couple weeks after that when he finally learns how exactly theyre related)

This company re-issued the famous hammond B3/A100/C3. In itself that is not very special, except for the fact that the Pari.e ‘new’ K61 contains REAL tonewheels, It’s weight is less then 50 kg, and cost less then €5000 for a new one..It sounded just as good as the original thing.
Was very promising: Pari.e in Italy.

Prompt idea: Devo showing up at Brother Seldom's doorstep for the first time.
This prompt has lived in my head rent-free since I saw it in my inbox and it has turned into much more than a one-shot, so I'm once again putting it on AO3 (first chapter is up now!)
The Point of Learning: Chapter One

content warnings: religious trauma, child abuse, deadnaming (not maliciously from Seldom, Devo just hadn't changed his name yet, but it's malicious from Guidance in ch 2), misgendering (similarly, Seldom doesn't misgender him but Guidance does). More content warnings on future chapters.
Back on the surface, when kids believed that their teachers lived in the school buildings, they were wrong. When Brother Seldom’s students thought that now, though, they were absolutely right. Technically, he had a bathysphere home in the Forecastle, but he rarely left the Ballast these days. There was a little dormitory, just a dozen or so rooms, attached to the schoolhouse where he slept. It had been built because in those early days, right after the submersion, there had been quite a few children without guardians, and Seldom had refused to let them all get swept up by the church. Even then, he’d been disillusioned by the church’s practices, and thought it was best for children to get a secular education in addition to whatever religious upbringing they or their families wanted.
The dormitories were usually empty now. Life in Founder’s Wake was getting safer every year, and fewer children were orphaned or abandoned. To Seldom’s irritation, the ones that were usually got taken in by the church. He had long-since sworn off any ties he had to the Benevolent Parish, and his interactions with Guidance had started to become openly hostile lately, so he didn’t feel particularly welcome in that part of the Conservatory.
Sitting alone at his desk in the schoolhouse, the room illuminated by small golden cubes of glowing hard light embedded in the walls, Seldom was working on a script for his weekly tonewheel broadcast tomorrow. It was getting late, but he didn’t want to stop before he had finished his work.
There was a very, very quiet knock at the door. Seldom almost thought for a moment that he had imagined it (who would be knocking at the schoolhouse at this time of night?), but then the knock came again, and Seldom could see someone’s shadow through the window. He put his pen down and cautiously approached the door.
Standing on his doorstep was a young person, fairly tall, with dark skin and the blue-ish glow to their eyes that marked them as a magic user. Seldom didn’t note anything else about them because he was distracted by the symbol emblazoned on the front of the robe they were wearing--a hand, holding a balanced scale. They were from the church.
“I’m sorry, I’m just not interested in being preached to,” he said before the visitor had a chance to open their mouth. Seldom stepped back, preparing to close the door in their face.
“No--no, wait, please,” the visitor stammered. He had the thick accent of someone raised by the church to speak Celestial and only learned Common later in life. “I am not here to preach to you, I need your help, please.”
