What everyone is saying that you’re not is that Disney is being stupid and hasn’t made an animated movie in what feels like forever just keeps remaking sequels are doing the hero movies so my standards are to the floor right now and also it’s nice to see some POC rep and the story not about romance

That's fair, the rep and non-romance is cool! and i am admittedly quite a snob in my media tastes. Representation is important and needs to be supported, so im glad Encanto exists at all, but that alone doesn't make me like a movie

tho I don't agree with disney not making an animated movie in a long time: if you look at "disney animation studios" (which made Encanto) specifically, they've very consistently been creating movies at a rate of about one a year, which is an impressive pace considering an animated movie takes several years to make. Most of those have been originals, its just that the Frozen and Wreck it Ralph sequels came out back to back. (the only sequels theyve made to date, btw - im not counting the home video animated ones cause while those were made by disney the corporation, they weren't made by their in-house studio)

Pixar has been more on the sequel path lately, but they also make at least 1 original for every sequel, amongst which Luca and Coco, which were both lovely little movies (and also not very romance focussed) -so eh. Don't get me wrong, Disney the megacorporation sucks, and if it were up to me they'd stop making cash grabby sequels altogether, but they can and do still make quite a few original movies
