The perfect summer—

The long awaited Sunny and Adam get back together fic!!

Au Masterlist!!

Sunny’s second semester had been a bit of a blur, her boyfriend-turned-ex started his professional hockey career, while she continued to navigate her way through adulthood.

Summer was all she wanted.

She made it through her brother's playoff runs, family wedding season, and finally, the Hughes siblings all found themselves in the same place at the same time for the first time in almost a year.

Lake Michigan was easily her favourite place to be, the boat days, the golfing, and even her summer job at the country club was something she looked forward to. The lake house was her happy place, and summer provided all of the right things to end her miserable school year.

Now all she needed was for Adam to finally call her to talk about everything.

Luke stumbled onto the deck where Sunny was lounging, her latest read in her hands as she ran her fingers through the ends of her hair.

Brows furrowed in concentration as she was quickly pulled away from her book and looked up towards her brother who aggressively cleared his throat.

“Yes?” she looked at him with a big smile, sitting up slightly so he had room to sit on the end of her lounge chair. “I have a question, and feel free to say no,” he began rambling but abruptly ended as he watched her face grow annoyed, “I wanted to invite Luca and Adam here to train for a few weeks, I promise that he-” Sunny cut him off “Of course, Adam can come over, he's your friend, and we are all good,” she smiled as Luke let out a breath he didn't even know he was holding.

“You're the best sun, I'll make sure he's on his best behaviour,” he said as she smiled and nodded her head, his hand reaching up to mess up her bangs which gained him a smack to the chest with her book.

And there it was, the perfect situation for them to finally talk about it all, properly face to face since he ended it in his bed all the way in Columbus.

It was anything but perfect.

It seemed to be that every boy in the house was destined to make sure Sunny and Adam were never in the same room alone. A whole week of supervised conversations and overbearing boys who imposed themselves in the middle of their almost moments.

The only time they seemed to have a conversation alone was his first night in the house when he found her down in the living room, curled up in a ball on the couch with her book in her hands.

“What are you still doing up?” she whispered, her eyes tired as she looked up from her book to the boy who was sipping on his glass of water. “Can't sleep, you?” “Rutger fell asleep in my bed, and I'm not sleeping on his air mattress in your and Luca’s room,” she slowly blinked, as Adam moved from the counter to the armchair.

“I can make him move back to our room,” he offered as she shook her head. “Leave him be, I'm okay on the couch, it wouldn't be my first time sleeping on it” she smiled, covering her mouth as she yawned and shut her book.

Adam watched as her gaze on him grew soft, “I feel like I've barely seen you since I got here,” he whispered. “I know, I've missed you.” “I've missed you too,” he watched as she smiled and pulled her blanket up to her chin. “Tomorrow, tomorrow I want to talk about all of this, I need to talk about it, it's eating me up,” she said as he nodded and stood up from the couch.

“Good night sunny.” “Good night Adam, love you,” she said in between yawns as he flicked off the lamp next to him and headed back upstairs, heart thumping in his chest as he crawled back into bed next to his brother.

It was safe to say Adam did not sleep well that night, short ‘love you’s’ filling his mind every time he closed his eyes

Tomorrow turned into three days, no conversation was had between the two thanks to the boys not allowing them any sort of alone time.

“Is there a reason every time I speak to Adam someone miraculously shows up to make sure we have company?” she looks over to Quinn who is also just silently sitting on the edge of the doc. He lets out a short laugh and looks at his sister who is clearly not amused by this, “Jack just wanted to make sure that you Adam remained civil, I told him it was a bad idea.”

A groan left the girl's lips as she looked at her older brother, annoyance filling her expression as she laid back on the hot wood of the doc, “I miss him, and I think he feels the same way” “So what does that mean for the two of you?” “Well I haven't gotten to ask because our brother is an idiot,” she said through a clenched jaw.

She looked to Quinn who was holding in a laugh at her, her glare narrowing as he laid down beside her, "I'll keep the boys busy tonight so you two can sneak away," Quinn offered with a smile as Sunny's glare grew soft.

"Thank you Q," she sat up and grinned at him as he offered out his fist for her to bump. "No need to thank me, I like seeing you happy, Adam makes you happy, it's not like I'm sacrificing my life," he shrugged. "This is why you're the better Hughes brother," she watched as his smirk grew cocky. "Not hard to be the best when my competition is dumb and dumber."

Quinn lived up to his promise, the boys returned from their golf outing and immediately were ushered into the game room for darts, pool, and beer after dinner.

Adam and Luca were in the kitchen getting more beer, laughter dying out as Sunny walked into the kitchen with a sweet smile on her face which prompted Luca to leave as quickly as possible, giving the two space to talk.

Sunny sat on the kitchen counter, adjacent to the boy who popped the bottle cap off of his beer with the ring on his finger, awkward silence filling the space between them as he took a swig and then offered her a sip. To which she crinkled her node and shook her head, "Still not a beer girl?" "You could never get me to drink that," she mused with a look of disgust resting on her face, "but I wouldn't mind a cider," she batted her lashes. "They taste almost the same?" She shook her head, as he placed the cold can of cider in her hands, remaining in between her legs, face to face as she placed the can on the counter next to her.

The laughter died in her throat when she realized how close they were, the smile on his face growing as her eyes flashed down to his lips.

"Maybe we should talk before you get any ideas about kissing me," he joked which was met with a slight push to his chest to make him back up. "Okay, you go first," she grinned as he leaned up against the counter. "This year was a shit show, but it was a lot better when you were in my life, not just because I needed someone to talk to but because I just missed listening to talk about your life or your little visits, and I fucked everything up by pushing you away," he answered honestly.

she nodded, "If I were to say that I wanted to get back together, would you want that? Or do you need more time to figure out what you want?" she asked, her eyes moving from his face to her hands as she picked at her nails. "I don't need time sunny, I never needed time, I just thought you needed an out," he whispered as she nodded and looked up at him.

"if we get back together I want some rules," she proposed, "I want better communication, and I want you not to make decisions like that for me, if I wanted an out or a break I would've told you," she watched as he nodded.

"Can I hug you?" he asked softly as she opened her arms, his face burned itself in her neck as her hands found the back of his head, fingers intertwining with his outgrown hair as he squeezed her torso, "I'm such a fucking idiot for letting you go." "You are," she whispered, "but I was never going anywhere Adam, you’re stuck with me," he pulled away and smiled at her, tears lining his eyes as he let out a laugh. "Good, I wouldn't have it any other way."

"Can I kiss you now?" she asked but was met with no answer as his cold hands cupped her face and his lips captured hers in a sweet kiss, slightly sloppy but very passionate, almost to make up for the lost time as her hands found the back of his neck.

his arms lowered from her face, one hand finding her hip, the other finding the counter to stabilize him, trapping her on the granite countertop as she smiled into his mouth.

He pulled away, swollen lips and shaky breaths, as his forehead leaned against hers, "I don't know how I lived without you for nearly six months," he whispered as she grinned and started to kiss along his jaw. "We have a lot of lost time to make up for," she whispered in his ear as he curtly nodded his head and picked her up off of the counter, laughter filling the kitchen as he made a beeline to the stairs, the opened beer and ciders forgot on the counter as they headed to her room.

Sibling quarrels—

Request: We need a blurb or a fic about Sunny and Jack not speaking to each other…certainly not surprised that Jack would sleep with her best friend.

Au Masterlist!!

Sunny stood quietly just around the corner of the hallway leading to all the Hughes children's bedrooms. Her jaw dropped as she peered around the corner to see Jack leaning in to kiss Evelyn, the girl dodged his romances, her hands pressed against his chest, trying to push him away before she did something she regretted

"I can't," she said weakly as Jack's face dropped, his grip on her hip tightened as his free hand tucked her hair behind her ear, "I can't do that to Sunny J, not again," the girl's tone was on the edge of giving in to the urge, her eyes tracing over Jack's lips as she chewed on the inside of her cheek.

Sunny's vision blurred as her hand covered her mouth to stop her jagged breaths. It was like watching her worst nightmare unfold right in front of her eyes, Jack's hands all over her closest friends, staring at her with not even a hint of guilt or care that he was putting a wedge in her friendship

"She doesn't need to know," Jack whispered as his forehead rested against Evie's, "I won't say anything if you don't, I really enjoyed it the first time." Sunny's stomach turned, as she closed her eyes to stop the burning of the tears welling up in them. How long had this been going on for exactly?

His lips chased hers as he tilted her head to kiss her gently, deepening it as he bit down on her bottom lip, her hands moving from his chest up to his curls before falling again to push him away. "It was a bad idea the first time, it was wrong, and it should never have happened," Evelyn detached herself from the boy's hold. "It didn't feel wrong to me?" Jack smirked as she shook her head embarrassed, her cheeks warm from the memories of the whole affair that had taken place only mere days ago. "It feels wrong lying to her Jack."

Evie straightened out the bottom hem of her party top and brushed off the centerman's almost convincing comments as she found her way out of his room and into the hallway where she saw Sunny standing with teary eyes and furrowed brows. Jack walked out hot on her tail to try and convince her one more time, but his eyes widened as he saw the streaks of tears that had rolled down Sunny's cheeks.

"Fuck," Jack whispered as Sunny clamped her jaw shut, shook her head and headed back down to the little party that Ellen was throwing in celebration of her two sons being home during their off-week.

Quinn knocked on his little sister's door and slipped in as she gave him the go-ahead to enter. A sad look on his face as he stood in the door frame and watched her for a second, soaking in the sadness that she was radiating.

"Mom said you were upset," he said sitting in her desk chair, as she readjusted the way she was sitting to face her oldest brother. "I'm mad at your brother," she said with a frown. "He's only my brother? What did Luke do now?" Quinn laughed at what he assumed to be some petty fight between the two, the usual Sunny and Luke narratives.

"Jack slept with Evie," she blurted out causing Quinn to go wide-eyed, nearly choking on his spit as she crossed her arms over her chest and collapsed back down on her mattress. The oldest Hughes was at a loss for words as he stared at his little sister who was now staring at the ceiling with tears in her eyes before looking at Quinn.

"She was the one person who was completely separate from you guys," she cried into her hands, "my whole life has revolved around you guys and hockey and your careers, and that's fine. But that's all people seem to want me around for, you, and Luke, and Jack!" choked cries left her lips as Quinn moved to lay down on the bed next to her hugging her into his chest as she cried even harder. "Evie was way beyond all of that, she was my only real break from being the Hughes' little sister, I was just Sunny to her," she whispered as her face buried itself in his chest, crying as he held her.

Quinn had no way of consoling her, no words were gonna fix her fragile state, tears soaking his shirt as she slowly lulled herself to sleep.

The house seemed tense that morning, everyone could feel a shift in the air, but no one exactly knew what was about to be unleashed as Quinn quietly left a sleeping Sunny and headed down to where the rest of the Hughes family found themselves relaxing. Quinn smacked Jack up the side of the head, a gasp leaving Ellen's mouth as she placed her mug down on the coffee table, "Quinn!" "I can't believe you did that," Quinn said sternly to Jack who stared guiltily at his hands, not daring to look up, praying that if he ignored Quinn's glare just enough, he could shrivel up into a ball and die without having to have to talk about this in front of his mother and father. "Can we talk about this somewhere else?" he asked looking around the room at all of the Hughes family members except for the youngest.

Quinn let out a laugh at the embarrassment creeping up the middle brother's cheek and then looked at the confusion on his parent's faces, "I'm not saying anything, but you need to apologize to her," he spat before walking out the back door to take a breather.

Jim sat up, brows raised at the middle son, surprised at the anger coming from his normally reserved oldest child, "What did you do, and to whom Jack?" Jack shrugged as he looked at his younger brother whose eyes widened with realization, connecting the dots to all the things that had occurred over the weekend, the tear-eyed Sunny who swore to Luke she was never talking to Jack again, the disappearance of Evelyn early into the previous nights party, and now the guilty Jack.

Ellen and Jim found out a week later after Jack and Quinn flew back to their respective towns, and Luke returned to Ann Arbor. Sunny moped around the house, which raised some major alarms for both of her parents, at first Jim thought it was just cause Sunny was lonesome without her brothers, but to Ellen, it all seemed deeper than that.

"Hey Sunshine," Ellen said knocking on her daughter's door with a snack plate in her hand for the bedridden girl, "you feeling okay," Ellen leaned forward and felt her daughter's forehead to see if maybe all of the melancholy had been due to an illness. "I'm fine," Sunny shrugged as she patted next to her, ushering her mom to sit down with her on the mattress. The girl leaned her head against her mom's shoulder as she took the plate of fruit and little snacks and started to eat the apple slices with peanut butter, smiling as she looked at the little heart-shaped cookies on the plate.

"Do you want to talk about it? Maybe I can fix it." Sunny frowned as her mom pressed a kiss to the crown of her head, "it's not really something that can be fixed." "Why don't you invite Evie over for the night? You guys can go down in the basement and binge-watch reality TV shows like you do with her when she's upset," Ellen suggested, not picking up on the way her daughter's brows furrowed at the proposal. "I can't," Sunny sighed, "she slept with Jack," Sunny shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant as she continued to eat the fruits in front of her.

Ellen's face dropped as she sat up, "I'm sorry what?" "Y'know what's funny, Quinn had almost the same reaction, but with fewer words," Sunny smiled at how motherly her older brother was. "Evelyn and Jack are seeing each other?" "No, Jack just had sex with my best friend because he can't stand the thought of me having something that isn't his," Sunny smiled and placed the plate on her bedside table as she got up from her bed to grab the remote to her TV from atop her dresser.

Jim chose the wrong second to walk in as Ellen sat with her jaw dropped and Sunny ranted about her inconsiderate brother. "what did Jack do now?" Jim joked as Ellen looked at him, an angry look resting on her face as they filled the man in.

Evelyn reached out a week later, tears in her eyes as she showed up at the Hughes' front door after Sunny's ballet practice. "I'm the worst," the girl muttered as she stared at her best friend, "I don't even know what I was thinking, I've always seen him as a brother, it was just a lapse of poor judgment," Evie cried as Sunny stood in the doorway. "You slept with my brother Evie, it's not poor judgement, you had sex with my brother and then lied to me," Sunny was not in the mood to deal with this anymore.

She was trying to pull together everything that had upset her over the course of the week and put it out on the table so that Evelyn knew just how badly this had hurt her.

"I forgive you," Sunny said calmly as Evelyn let out a sigh and leaned in to hug her best friend, Sunny's hand stopped her quickly, "I forgive you, but right now I'm mad at you and need space, I will reach out when I'm ready to talk about it," she said calmly as Evelyn nodded and sunny shut the door in her face, the girl returned to her car teary-eyed as Sunny watched her through the living room window.

Sunny stood at the bay window, watching the downpour of rain that hit the panes, arms folded and brows pulled together as she just stared numbly. Ellen softly said Sunny's name as she lifted her blanket up to offer her a spot next to her, so they could snuggle and watch movies instead of dwelling around the house The girl sniffled as she curled up next to her mom, Ellen pressed a kiss to the crown of her daughter's head, "I'm proud of you for setting that boundary," Ellen whispered as Sunny cried even harder, "It'll all pass Sweetheart, just give it some time."

"Has Jack called you at all?" "I haven't talked to Jack in like two weeks," she mumbled into her hands as she wiped away her tears, "and he told Luke he wasn't going to apologize and I needed to get over myself," Sunny's lip quivered as Ellen ran her fingers through her daughter's hair as she let out a huff, "Your son is a bitch" "He is," Ellen mused as she pressed her cheek against the crown of her daughter's head and took a deep breath, "your brother isn't the brightest, he'll come crawling for forgiveness soon enough,"

"I'm thinking about renting a car for when we are home for Sunny's grad, do you wanna split it with me so we aren't stuck stealing Luke's car all trip" Quinn rambled as Jack placed the phone to his ear, as sighed. "I don't know if I'm going," Jack said, his tone was almost shameful as Quinn's brows furrowed at the stupidity of his answer. "You're not going to our baby sisters grad?" Jack's lips formed a straight line as he found the words to make his excuse sound less stupid than it sounded in his head, "we haven't talked since February, I don't know?"

"You haven't spoken to her since All-Star week? did you even try to apologize?" Jack rolled his eyes "She said she didn't want to talk to me, what was I supposed to do?" Quinn could feel the headache settling behind his eyes as he abandoned his calm composure, "You were supposed to call her and fix what you ruined, like fuck jack, I don't know if you forgot but you slept with her only friend and then left without apologizing, she's dealing with it alone!"

A moment of silence crept up on the brothers as Quinn returned back to sitting in front of his laptop, "figure your shit out, you're embarrassing yourself," Quinn spat angrily as he hung up the phone to deal with the rented car on his own, leaving jack to his thoughts.

Sunny smiled sadly as she hung her graduation dress and gown on the back of the door, humming along to the Hozier playing over her record players as she flattened out the puffy sleeve of her sage green dress. She maneuvered her way around the room to rummage through her jewellery box, looking for her favourite hoops and rings to complete the look.

A quick knock at the door startled her as she walked over to open it, Jack stood on the other side, an awkward smile on his face as Sunny opened it with a shocked look. "I thought you couldn't make it?" "I wasn't gonna miss your grad Sunny, I'm still your big brother, I'm gonna be here for all of your accomplishments," he sighed as she looked at him with tears now welling in her eyes, his arms opening to let her pull him into a hug.

"You've been a shit big brother this year," she mumbled into his chest as the tears now started for him. "I know," he cried as her hands gripped the soft fabric of his shirt, "I'm so sorry Sun," he mumbled into the crown of her head as she cried harder into his frame.

"What took you so long?" she asked pulling away to wipe the tears from her face as Jack pulled her back in for a second longer, soaking in as much Sunny love that he could for its absence over the past five-ish months Jack shrugged, finally letting her out of his grasp so she could pull herself together, "I don't know, you've never been mad at me so I didn't know how to apologise." "That's such a bullshit response J," she glared and sat on the edge of her bed, ushering him to sit next to her. "I was embarrassed at how bad I fucked up, so I thought if we ignored it, it would go away," he said honestly. Sunny smiled, "you're a fucking idiot," she said as she leaned her head against his arm.

Jack took a shaky breath as his arm wrapped around her shoulders, the guilt in the pit of his stomach slowly lifting as silence took over the room. The last song on the Hozier vinyl ended as Sunny got up to flip it, "What about Evie? Are you guys okay?" "We are okay," Sunny said with a content smile, "I'm still unsettled that you two-" she cringed and shook her at the topic, "but we are okay," she mumbled as Jack nodded.

"I should probably apologize to her," Jack mumbled as Sunny nodded. "Probably," Sunny grinned as Jack hopped up from her bed to go back to greet the rest of their visiting family.

Jack hugged Sunny one last time, "I hated not talking to you," she mumbled Into his chest as he nodded. "Well it's never happening again, I'm gonna do everything in my power to annoy you for the rest of my life, so don't worry," he said swaying her back and forth. "Please do," she said reaching up and ruffling his hair as he squeezed her one last time.

Note

Growing up the Hughes brothers knew that their dad’s favorite child was Sunny. They always used her as an escape goat when it comes to getting in trouble. They knew if they named dropped her, Jim would let it go.

The boys were menaces when they were little, as little kids they would blame stuff on her because she was just a baby, because they caught on that Jim held such a soft spot for his little girl.

Even as they got older they would try to use her as a scapegoat, but let's be real Ellen and Jim are too smart to fall for their dumb son's antics.

They would blame her, and she would just look at Jim, and he would immediately know that his little girl could never do dumb shit the way his sons would, so he's a not falling for it.

The boys definitely have the “I can't believe you would pin that on your little sister,” rant burned into their brains after years of trying to pin things on her.

Adam Fantilli x Sunny Hughes

Request: "i was so worried. it was killing me, not being able to reach out and touch you." Adam and Sunny. When they were talking about their break up.

Au Masterlist!!

Sunny’s head rested on his bare chest, comforter pulled up to her chin as her eyes grew heavy with sleep. The rise and fall of Adam's chest had lulled her into a state of peace as his thumb ran over the exposed skin of her waist. Comforting silence filled the room as they individually unpacked the past hour of getting back together and then ran upstairs in desperation to get a moment alone.

“I missed this,” he mumbled as she came back to a state of awareness, blinking away the sleep as she nuzzled her face into his chest. “Me too,” she inhaled deeply, breathing in the clean smell of his cologne as her chapped lips left a kiss on his skin before she propped herself up on one shoulder to look at him.

His eyes glistened with sleep and love as he raised his hand to fix the mess of curls on her head, fingers trailing down her neck and chest as he ran over the love-bitten skin. Smirking proudly of his work, her smile soft as she felt the light brushes of his fingertips against her chest.

Soft moments like this filled the void in her chest that had been empty since their break up.

“Missed touching you, talking to you, kissing you,” she whispered as she leaned forward to press a gentle kiss to the underside of his jaw, lips running over his stubble before finding his cheek and pressing a sloppy kiss to one of his smile lines, and finally her lips found his. Adam's hand moved from their place on her hips to cup her cheeks as her tongue swiped along his bottom lip, a groan leaving his lips as she bit down on his bottom lip.

He pulled away first, his arms wrapped around her frame and pulled her on top of him, “I missed holding you,” he mumbled into the crown of her head as she melted into his chest. Sunny's face pressed against his soft skin, hand intertwining with his as she lay in his hold for a second longer, letting him soak in the feeling of her in his arms that had been absent in his life.

She pulled away to look him in the eyes for a second, “I was so worried about you, it killed me a little to not be able to just reach out, just call you when I needed to, or even just to hear you talk” she whispered, her eyes looked down to the chain hung around his neck, the chain she bought him for his draft. Adam squeezed her hips, a slight frown on his lips, “I thought I was doing the right thing,” he confessed. “I know, it was just hard, not being able to reach out and touch you, to love you,” she answered truthfully, tears brimming her eyes as Adam nodded, hand still kneading the soft flesh of her hips.

“I'm sorry,” he whispered as he pushed the hair away from her eyes so she could see him, tucking her tangled curls behind her ears, a soft smile on his face as he wiped away the remnants of tears on her cheeks. She shook her head as she felt the gentle caress of his stare on her figure, “I don't need your apologies, s’not your fault, it's been a hard year for everyone,” she leaned in quickly to peck him on the lips.

The quick kiss turned soft and sloppy as Adam's wandering hand found the subtle skin of her ass, hoisting her up to straddle his lap. She let out a breathy moan against his lips as his hands found solace on her thighs, giving the sensitive skin a gentle squeeze as his lips moved down from her lips to her neck as he mumbled about making it up to her.

Shared promises rolled off both of their tongues as the sense of tiredness washed away from both of them, instead lust filling the void as they hid up in the privacy of her room from the plethora of boys in the den downstairs, oblivious to the heated moment happening right over their heads.

Request: Luke and Adam teaming up and sending the UMich hockey team to look for the Hughes Sister. Sunny forgot her phone and went to a party with some friends. She felt she didn’t need to tell Adam or Luke since they were busy and would tell them afterwards.

Charlotte grinned as she applied the finishing touch on Sunny's make-up, glittery gloss to finish the going out look as she checked her phone again to see if their ride was ready to pick them up. "They're here!" she said rummaging around their dorm for her purse that she had misplaced once again.

Sunny threw on her cute going-out jacket as she tried to speed her roommate up, not needing to hear the continuous rant of Lottie's lack of time awareness. She pushed her roommate out the door and down the stairs to the car that was parked out front with their two other friends, and the sober boyfriend of the night who was driving them to and from the party they'd been invited to.

"Shit Lottie, I forgot my phone on the vanity," the girl groaned as she dug through her purse for the phone that wasn't there, "Can you text Adam or Luke to tell them we are going out and that I'm safe?" Charlotte nodded, barely listening as she sang along with the Drake song playing over the aux, "They don't need to know your every move babes!" Macy yelled over the blaring music as she turned to see Sunny nod. "I guess yeah"

Adam frowned as he tried to call the girl for the third time in the past hour, a confused look on his face as he flipped through random Snapchat stories to see the very drunk Charlotte, Sunny, and Macy scream-singing to Katy Perry.

Luke's contact popped up on his screen causing Adam's confusion to grow, "have you heard from Sunny, she hasn't responded to me all night" his tone concerned. "No I was trying to call her as well, I think she went out though?" Adam listened to Luke groan in annoyance. "She didn't tell you?" "She tried to call me while we were at practices, but other than that I don't think so?"

Adam ran a hand through his hair as he thought of a possible way to track the girl down, "I'll call Charlotte and see where they are," Adam said as Luke began texting Macy's boyfriend who was more than likely trying to wrangle them into his car.

"Adamo!! I missed your presence tonight!" the very drunk girl said on the other end. "Hey Lottie, is Sunny with you?" The girl gasped on the other end, "We left to get pizza and forgot her there, shit she was with some girls in our residence building," the girl rambled before pulling the phone away from her head to tell Macy's boyfriend to turn the car around. "Was it that Alpha Phi party?" Adam asked as he searched his pockets for his car keys. "Yeah, at the off-campus house" she said just before Adam hung up and texted Luke who texted the team group chat.

Sunny was beyond drunk, giggling as her newfound girlfriend sunk another pong ball in their competitions cup, "booo you suck," the girl on the opposite side of the table said as she downed the full cup of beer.

"Sunny oh my god," Rutger said as she caught his attention, a worried look on his face as he maneuvered his way around the kitchen to be by her side, "your boyfriend and brother are looking for you." "Adam's here!" she said looking around for her boyfriend who was nowhere to be found. "He's on his way sunshine."

Sunny's cup pong partner grinned as she nudged her new friend, "Who is this?" "Oh, this is Rutger, my brother's friend!" she grinned as she squished his cheeks. "I'm hurt that you don't consider us friends," Rutgers brows furrowed as he removed Sunny's hands from his face. "Oh sorry, this is Rut my best friend, Rut this is..." "Kayleigh" "This is Kayleigh, she lives in the dorm right next to mine and Lottie's," she said moving out of the way, patiently waiting for her loving boyfriend to find her just as Rutger had promised.

The hazy look in her eyes quickly disappeared as she was pulled through the crowd, a very angry Luke greeted her as he pulled her outside. "What were you thinking?" "I forgot my phone, Charlotte wasn't supposed to leave my side all night!" she defended as her brother ripped into her in front of a crowd of people. "That's a shit excuse, Sunny!"

Her cheeks blazed with embarrassment as she felt a pair of arms wrap around her, "you okay?" "I'm fine, really, I found a group of girls that live in my building and wasn't gonna leave their side until I saw someone I knew and was safe enough to get me home," she mumbled into her boyfriend's chest as he ran a hand up and down her back, "I need some water and some sleep though"

Luke was still on a rant as Adam slid a sweater over her frame and brushed her hair out of her face, "she gets it, Luke, you can give her a talk tomorrow, but for now let's just get her home," Adam reasoned as Luke stopped his yelling and nodded shortly. "Make sure she calls me in the morning," the blonde said as he crossed his arms over his chest and death stared at his teammate. "Will do" "Keep her safe, love you both," Luke said before he made a beeline straight to his car.

Sunny let out a snort as she grinned up at her boyfriend, "Lukey loves youuu," she said in a singsong voice as Adam rolled his eyes at her drunk tactics. "Let's get you home, you smell like beer," he said before kissing her on the side of her head and leading her to his car.

There is only ever one pregnancy scare, cause Sunny and Adam are both very careful and do everything in their control to prevent mishaps.

But this instance happens just a few weeks after his draft.

Sunny is late, a whole two weeks late, and she is never late. So she's panicked in the passenger seat of Adam’s car the pregnancy test box in her lap as they both awkwardly stare at the road. Neither of them speaks as they anxiously countdown the seconds till they are home.

The tears in her eyes build as he parks in the Hughes’ Lake House driveway. She turns to look at Adam who looks equally as nervous.

“Sorry, I’m being dramatic I’m probably fine,” she laughs at her nerves as she wiped away her tears and hid her puffy face in her hands.

“No no, it’s okay to be scared, I’m terrified,” Adam reached over and grabbed a hold of her hand and brought it to his lips to kiss her knuckle, “we have options if you’re not ready, and if you are ready then we’ll figure that out as well,” he says as she nods and gets out of the car.

The two of them quickly ran upstairs to their shared bathroom, anxiously starting the time on her phone as she slipped the test back into the box to remove it from her sight.

Adam pulls her into his chest as they stood in tense silence, his hands running through her hair as she chews on her bottom lip.

The alarm goes off and causes the two of them to jump, as they both stare at the box, the box that holds their future. “Can you do it?” She asks as her arms wrap around his torso and her face buries itself in his chest.

Adam let out a sigh of relief as he stared at the negative sign, saying a silent thank to god as she unravelled herself from him to verify the result.

“Thank god,” she whispered as she looked up at her boyfriend, “not that I don’t want your baby, just not right now,” she said with a look that resembled an apology as she washed her hands and kissed his cheek.

“Your brothers would’ve killed me,” he mumbled as she took the box and slid it into one of her purses so she could dispose of it without her brothers tracking it back to her. Sunny hummed a short “mhm” and kissed his cheek, as he laughed at her nonchalantness.

Luke had been completely oblivious to your and Adam's relationship up until World Juniors.

It was actually comical, to the point that most of the team knew, and he stayed unaware

No one other than him and Dylan was left out of the know (let's be so real, Dylan is even more clueless than Lu)

The two of you portrayed yourselves as simply platonic.

Luke sensed some sort of tension between Adam and you but thought that it wasn't something to worry over.

When in reality your relationship consisted of fleeting stares and friendly touches in front of him but was filled with sickly sweet romance behind closed doors

Adam was such a sweetheart though, he understood the dilemma with your relationship and still wanted to try (the payoff was *chefs kiss*)

And every warm smile or gentle kiss was so worth the struggle of hiding it from your brother.

You had told Quinn a few weeks after your guy's first kiss

He was the only Hughes family member that you trusted to not tell another soul, and he kept his promise

World Juniors had been literal torture, you were struggling to juggle your double life

With trying to keep the other Umich players (bitches) on the USA team from telling your brother

And being so close to Adam at all times but not being allowed to speak or associate with him was even worse.

Jim had been the first to clue in after you had asked to attend one of the Canada games (specifically the one where Adam scored his first goal of the tournament) with him

Your father had been watching as your breath hitched the moment you saw him gain possession of the puck, biting back a loud celebration as the puck hit the back of the net.

Jimmy gave you a knowing look as he watched you glance over to him, wanting to see if he had caught the slip-up.

"I've always liked Adam" "he's really sweet to me" "that's all I ask for" and that's where the conversation ended, never brought up again.

Jack and Ellen were next to see it all, Team USA and Canada had both been staying in the same hotel (the universe was just teasing you at this point)

The three of you had decided to explore the Halifax waterfront (If ever in town do this, I love downtown Halifax!!)

While leaving the lobby you quite literally ran into Team Canada, a quick apology leaving your mouth as you looked up to see Brandt Clarke, a laugh leaving his mouth at the panic in your eyes

That's when you caught the eyes of Adam whose face was now a bright shade of pink, a smile on his lips as the two of you hugged shortly

You slowly glanced at his appearance, clad in his game-day suit you smiled, "you look very handsome" you spoke quietly before leaving to join your brother and mother once again

Jack had a smug look on his face as he watched your return, a grin on your face before you met Jack's suggestive stare, "you and Fants?"

Ellen was over the moon

The two of them had an obscene amount of questions about the two of you (which obviously you spilled your entire guts to your mother cause she's literally your best friend and you've been bottling this up)

Luke was last to find out, team USA had won bronze, and their heads still hung high even if it wasn't the outcome they had wished

The Umich boys decided to go and watch the gold medal game in support of Adam, the six of you (consisting of You, Rut, Dylan, Gavin, Seamus, and Luke) in the stands as you watched Canada take home the gold.

The cheers were deafening in the barn as the boys celebrated their win

The six of you decided to go down to where the Fantilli family sat, right in front of the glass, a grin on your face as your boyfriend skated over to see his family.

You guys made short eye contact through the glass, his adrenaline high as he winked at you while signing the jersey of the girl standing next to you

Luke's brows furrowed as he watched the two of you communicate through stares (eye-fucking as he would call it)

His jaw dropped as he pulled you away from the celebrating group, his blood boiling as he made it outside of the arena

"You're sleeping with him?" "I have no idea what your talking about Luke" "this has to be a joke" he scoffed before walking away from you

Luke left the arena by himself, taking your parent's rental car and leaving you to find your own ride back to the hotel (the Duke's being the sweethearts they are gave you a lift after you lied about Luke's absence)

You showed back up to the hotel room to find the entire Hughes family sitting tensely on the beds

"They all knew, I can't believe you" he spat as you stood defenceless in the doorframe of the room.

"I'm sorry" you croaked as you looked around the room at your other family members who stared awkwardly at you

"I need to take a walk" he pushed past you as you watched him leave the room fuming.

A frown worked its way to your face as Quinn pulled you into his chest, "I'm fine" you said fighting his touch as he placed a kiss on the crown of your head, "it's fine really" tears staring as you stood there and just shook.

like he loves going when sunny’s in them, but then she leaves and he goes because he misses her

Jim especially loved the open practices where parents and friends could watch them perfecting their craft.

He was a coach, and seeing the transition from unpolished to flawless was one of his favourite parts of being a coach, so he loved watching how she received criticism and how she applied critiques to her techniques.

He learned that it's less of dance and more of an art, it's elegant and poised and that's why he loved it so much, it's so unlike anything he's ever witnessed. And it's his little girl up there dancing her heart out, his little Ray of sunshine, shining on stage.

It makes him almost emotional to think about it all.

And then she finished her final recital with the company she grew up in, and Jim was heartbroken cause his little girl wasn't so little any more.

He thought that chapter of her life closed when she transitioned from high school to University until one day he got a call asking if he wanted to take a day trip up to Ann Arbour just to see the open practice for the Nutcracker.

Jim sat in the crowd, off to the side, just far enough to be away from other viewers but close enough to see Sunny in the spotlight, silent tears welling in his eyes as Sunny spun across the stage, his little girl shining once again

Boys night in—

Request: Sunny bonding with the UMich hockey team and them taking her under their wing. They actually enjoy her company and find her funny and apparently kicked Luke out of being the beer pong champ. Adam and Luke feels left out.

Sunny was quite reserved, much like her oldest brother, the only boys on the Umich hockey team who actually seemed to know anything about her was her brother, her boyfriend, and a few of the sophomores who had visited the lake over the summer.

So when a snap from Luca popped on her phone with Rutger's dorm room number, asking her to stop by for drinks, with no mention of Adam or Luke, she could do nothing but stare in shock. She sucked up her nerves and threw a few drinks into her tote bag, did her hair, and made her way up the two flights of stairs to the boy's dorm.

Luca grinned as he opened the door to see her awkwardly stood with furrowed brows and an expression of something that resembled anxiety. "Glad you could make it Sunshine," Rutger grinned as he waved for her to join them, the only other boys in the room being Gavin, Kienan, and Seamus who smiled and offered her a seat.

"Why am I here?" she looked around at the random grouping of boys who stared at her with innocent smiles, she sat down next to Rutger who offered her his phone for aux. "It's boy's night in!," Luca shrugged as he took a seat next to Shea, "My brother and yours like to hog you, we want to get to know you," he said offering her a beer to which she declined and pulled out her own drink from her bag.

The night started tense and mellowed out as the drinking went on, giggles filling the room as Rutger and Sunny danced along to the boy's horrible rendition of ABBA's greatest hits. She fit right in, grinning as Gavin and her gossiped about some of the girls who lived in their building, and going shot for shot with Seamus as the boys cheered the girl on.

The real 'deal breaker', as Shea put it, was cup pong. A game the boys had been trying to perfect since frosh week when the seniors obliterated them and never let them live it down.

Sunny hid her face in embarrassment as she missed the first cup, Rutger laughed at her flushed cheeks and handed her the second ball so she could try again, but this time she sunk the ball right into the cup and grinned as she looked up at a surprisingly scared looking Kienan.

The boys stood shocked as it moved to her turn again, sinking both balls and gaining balls back, to which she sunk both of them again. Kienan stood in shock as she finally missed one and pointed at him to drink up. "Shit sunny, you're better than your brother," she shrugged and laughed as Kienan missed the cup both times. "Comes with the competitive Hughes genes," she mused as she sunk the last four balls she needed to and jumped up to hug Rutger who was jumping, equally as hyped as she was.

"You're so much cooler than Luke!" Rut joked as he spun her around, giggles filling the room as the door swung open.

"Can I have my girlfriend back now?" Adam asked as he maneuvered his way around the messy dorm to be next to his girlfriend who hugged herself into his side. Luca groaned, "how you know she was here?" he laughed, drunkenly as his young brother watched him with amusement. "You posted her doing shots with you like an hour ago," Adam pulled up the video of Luca's private story that made Sunny laugh in his chest.

Rutger nodded, "you can have Sunshine back," he said as he patted the girl on the crown of her head, "but we really like her, so don't break her heart, or ill have to kill you," Rutger winked at the girl who nodded and sent him a wink back. "I promise!" Adam said walking the girl back to his empty dorm.

"Did you have fun?" the boy asked as she perched herself on the edge of his bed, allowing him to remove her mascara, and help her get dressed as she stared at him in a sort of haze. She nodded softly, "your friends are some of my favourite people," she mused with a smile as he placed a kiss on her temple, a smile on her face at the warm feeling spreading across her body. "I'm glad," he said stripping her of her clothes and pulling one of his large shirts over her frame, grinning at how the article swallowed her up whole.

A laugh left the girl's lips as she finally looked down at her phone, a plethora of messages from Luke, the last one a simple, "I can't believe I didn't get an invite, you're all bitches," he joked making the girl snort at his whiney tone. She tucked herself into Adam's bed as he started getting himself ready, he walked out shirtless which made the very drunk sunny grin to herself as she moved over to make room for the boy.

She kissed his shoulder and snuggled into his side as he finally relaxed, "thank you for introducing, me to your friends," she whispered as she peppered a few more kisses to his chest. "Love you," he mumbled and wrapped his arm around her to pull her into his chest. "Love you too," she whispered before falling into a deep sleep.

It's so awkward!!

The entire Hughes family (minus Sunny) are in Jim and Ellen’s hotel trying to pick one last place to go out for family dinner before they all have to head back to their separate lives.

Luke stormed in, with a frown on his face and collapsed down in the edge of the bed

Ellen’s brows furrowed as she waited for her daughter to walk through the door behind him, but she didn't walk in, “Luke where's your sister?” “probably with her boyfriend,” he snaps as he angrily propped himself on his elbow to see his family. All the Hughes’ in the room sat with knowing looks is in their faces, looking anywhere else in the room than the angry boy. “You all knew, what the fuck!” “Luke, did you leave your sister at the rink?” Jim raises his voice as Luke just shrugs and ignores the question.

To be truthful the entire Hughes family loved Adam, he had the sweetest family, and he himself was very respectful towards Sunny and that’s all they could ask for.

Luke's attitude didn't drop, for the rest of the evening, even after a pitiful and teary-eyed sunny walked in to finish packing her bags.

Jack definitely ripped into him a bit right before they headed to the airport, “It's a stupid rule” “you had the same rule for her when were were kids!” “yeah luke, when we were kids!”

Quinn also gave him a lecture, less yelling at him and more of warning him that if something were to happen to Sunny all because Luke was being petty Quinn would fly home and smack some sense into him.

Jim and Ellen are in that stage of their lives now where if their kids are having issues they are leaving it up to themselves to fix it. So although they are pretty visibly upset with their son they don't vocalize it for their sanity.

Anyways, as the argument and fight progresses between the two of them the entire family is practically waking on eggshells around the two of them. Until Ellen snaps after asking Luke if he'd talked to his sister too which he scoffs and says no. “She's your sister, Luke, she would never purposefully hurt you! Drop the bullshit and fix your mistakes!”

Quinn is trying to keep the lines of communication open to both of his siblings, trying to be understanding with Luke and more reassuring to Sunny

Whereas Jack just goes hellfire on Luke for being such an idiot, and mean to their little sister. He feels a lot for sunny, he knows how sensitive she is and wants all the best for her so he absolutely doesn't tolerate Lukes fuckery

When they are all finally on good terms everyone can take a deep breath for the first time in a little over a month. And all is well
