Trying to decide the details of the Bionicle world’s dating system for YaBr... I like to imagine that it was the League of Six Kingdoms that came up with the first, ‘official’ universal dating system by Mata Nui’s blessing; The dating was BLF (Before League Formation) and then ALF (After League Formation), with LF seen as a sacred year.

Of course, then the Barraki tried to overthrow the Great Spirit... In retaliation, Mata Nui declared by divine mandate that all records of the League be destroyed, so the Barraki’s influence be forgotten. This didn’t completely succeed of course, but it would’ve meant that among many other major changes, there would be the abandonment of the LF dating system.

So with the first universal dating system out of the way, which year would the next one center around? Around which particular event? I can’t think of anything in the Bionicle timeline that seems suitably ancient, but not too ancient (the early days of the universe need ambiguity)... Perhaps in response to the Brotherhood’s concerns, Mata Nui decided right then and there that this year would be center of the new dating system?

Not sure what to call it though, I’d prefer for it to be three letters maximum... And Mata Nui is two letters in itself, as is Great Spirit. I want an intuitive name, describing THIS as being the official year that Mata Nui declared society would structure their dating system around. Maybe I should just allow four letters... Anyone have any ideas?

It doesn’t even need to be the arbitrary year that Mata Nui made this announcement, either- Perhaps the year the Ignika was first used, to celebrate the Great Spirit’s health? Could be a specific, ceremonious event that people settled upon themselves, because Mata Nui didn’t consider this important enough to decide for everyone- Or he did, and it was later that he started neglecting his world.
