as much as i love dovewing getting the hell out of thunderclan, i wish it wasnt framed as “oh she HAS to go because her family is in shadowclan now” and shes done this huge betrayal and sort of mistake for leaving thunderclan (best clan evarrr). rather than her finally taking control of her life and cutting off the people who hurt her. frame thunderclan as a toxic place to be for once and she finds freedom in shadowclan (or yknow you couldve just kept her with the guardian cats but whatever)

Bonefall Rewrite Masterpost
uh
HELLO THIS IS UNDERGOING CONSTRUCTION. PARDON THE DUST.
“So what exactly is the Bonefall Rewrite?”
It is a fix-it redux of the Warriors books, sticking to the canonical order of events while making the narrative stronger and eliminating pointlessly uncomfortable aspects.
Full disclosure, it is mostly notes, outlines, and thoughts because I’m tired all the time
There are three FOUR goals;
To make a more thematically consistent WC series with a more conclusive stance on anti-authoritarianism and consistent politics for both Clans and the individual cats that constitute them.
To flesh out the culture of the clans, as well as those of the groups they interact with.
To expand on related supernatural elements including StarClan, nature entities, nature gods like Midnight and Rock, and the Dark Forest
NEW! To be cool as hell and add better battles, deaths, and dramatic scenes.
All of this is being attempted while following the ‘iconic‘ events of the main series and allowing the clans to still be flawed while textually addressing their problematic elements. I’m trying to limit massive changes; the point is to tell a more compelling version of the WC series with the same skeleton.
To that end I’m avoiding creating OCs and re-namings when possible. The exception being duplicate names because I will NOT allow there to be four Robinwings, three Milkfurs, or two Ashfurs
Other ‘fixes‘ include stretching out the timeline, shuffling around litter orders to diversify sibling dynamics, a reworked Lake map, and MASSIVELY untangling the family tree to allow for better genetic diversity and generally make the canonical pairings less gross.
“Sounds cool, where should I start?“
With this HISTORY LESSON! It’s a mega truncated guide to how each arc affects the future ones politically, just mentioning the biggest changes I’ve done to each arc so far.
Other important ‘meta’ changes you may wanna start with,
Here is my redux of the Warrior Code
I try to avoid renamings, but here is every character with a name difference from canon. Conflicts, saved kits, honor titles... (if you ever don’t recognize a name and it’s not on the wiki, check here!)
Better reasons for the scarred cats to be named like that (looking at you, Crookedjaw)
The first draft of the reworked Lake Territory map
Color-coded version
Rules and Guidelines for Family Tree reworks
StarClan’s shifting morality and a redux of the Dark Forest
After that, you can search the tag #Bonefall Rewrite, or, check these links below! I tried to sort everything that’s relevant into sections (so please lmk if I missed something you think should be here)

Individual Cats + Reworked Relationships
Initial thoughts on The Daisy Chain (her and her family)
Spottedleaf is a rogue StarClan warrior WITHOUT that weird crush angle, and Redtail is rule-obsessed
Redtail was a strict and disciplined deputy in life, and mates with Runningwind
More examples of Spottedleaf and Redtail’s dynamic
Runningwind, Redtail, and how they as parents have affected their children, Longtail and Sandstorm
Spottedleaf’s ghost is channeled with tarspot-blighted sycamore leaves; further principles on how I approach Redtail and Spotty
Redtail would HATE being a spirit guide
Graypool is the sister of Willowbreeze from an OLDER litter (Diversifying sibling ages in general; Longtail is the older brother of Sandstorm, Tigerheart is younger than Dawn and Flame)
Spirituality Overhauls

  #Forget-Me-Not AU
Bluestar has a friend from each clan and the group meets in secret. These friends are Oakheart, Lizardstripe, Barley, Ashfoot, and Deadfoot! There are also now two Barleys; Senior, and his nephew, Junior. They symbolize their friend group with forget-me-not flowers.
  #Father!Lionblaze AU
Lionblaze and Cinderheart are now the parents of Ivypool and Dovewing. Birchfall is Dovewing’s beloved mentor, Ivypool is the apprentice of Brightheart. Ivypool’s role is also greatly expanded in TBC, actually taking Bristlefrost’s place in some events.
This post will be continuously updated as I keep working on the rewrite, so keep checking back!

OKAY SO -- AVoS Thoughts
AVoS
Alderheart should have been SkyClan’s medicine cat, hands down - not only would it have made complete narrative sense, but it would make for great conflict in the story, further Alderheart’s development, and make the Broken Code more tense with his absence from ThunderClan.
Violetshine is amazing, I love her, I want nothing but happiness for her and I’m so glad she got it!!! Have that family girl!!!
I really wasn’t a huge fan of Finleap/Twigbranch or Tree/Violetshine. Both relationships felt so underdeveloped that when they started having real relationship drama in the last book I was just not into it. Tree/Violetshine is more likeable but Finleap/Twigbranch just did not do it for me - the two of them should have separated, tbh. It would have been kind of neat to see Twigbranch acknowledge her feelings for Finleap as a childhood crush and that because of their opposing views on their future they couldn’t have a real relationship.
Molewhisker should have joined SkyClan - not only would it have made sense for him to develop a fondness for the Clan due to constantly journeying to find them, it would’ve been a side character getting some interesting development.
Sandstorm should have guided Alderheart in his dreams. Instead it just feels like he forgot about her by the end of the series, which is really sad considering she’s his grandmother and he felt so responsible for her death.
The first three books were a whirlwind of pacing while the last three lagged so slowly... felt like getting off the highway after going 80mph. Darktail’s plot could’ve - and should’ve - extended at least another book. I feel like there was just more he could’ve done to destabilize the other Clans, as WindClan and ThunderClan were hardly affected by his being there. He was a great villain despite that, and I couldn’t wait to see what was happening with him and Needletail and Violetshine.
Leaders should listen to their medicine cats - what the hell happened to that??
How many life threatening storms were there in this arc? Too many.
Tigerheart’s Shadow
Tigerheart learned... nothing at all. It seemed like his journey was a setup to him learning alternate ways to lead, but in the end all he ended up doing was shoving Clan ways where they didn’t belong. Fierce and Fog’s conflict could have been solved the same way Tigerheart solved the rabbit issue but he somehow didn’t think the situation called for pacifism until foxes got involved. It was interesting to see how Fierce’s group lived so differently, though.
Tigerheart and Dovewing’s relationship was nicely developed and while I’ve always been a fan of it since OotS, I like it a lot more now. The way they both care for their kits is adorable development.
My biggest gripe is the fact that Tigerheart took nothing he learned from this book - alternate leadership styles, the compassion of the healer cats, etc - back with him to the Clans. The moment he becomes Tigerstar he flips for some reason and becomes a huge asshole - having a compassionate, strong ShadowClan leader could’ve been great.
I still stand by the idea that they should’ve just had Shadowkit and not two other kittens. Pounce and Light will likely have no development at all throughout Broken Code and its really sad that the Erins don’t take stock of sibling relationships for the most part.
Way too many prophecies - so many the characters themselves were getting confused. Having one strong, central prophecy and smaller meaningful signs weighs a lot more than trying to tell someone the same thing a hundred times.
All in all, AVoS has been a great arc to read! I’m kind of sad I wasn’t able to keep up to date with it was it was coming out. It’s a great arc with a ton of great development and a really good main cast - but pacing issues and nagging narratives that go nowhere or do nothing drag it down. The Erins still have a lot of issues they need to work on - pacing, interesting conflicts, interesting relationships - but this arc could be a step in the right direction, and I’m hoping WP finds their feet in all this in Broken Code and beyond.

Gosh getting into society’s feeling towards certain genders or identities is such a big ich for me especially in early wc books. Like around Bluestar’s time and her growing up the clans definitely have a clear bias and idea of what Molly’s should be. That being mothers. And only cats who act more Tom like in their minds usually ever get into positions of power. This is a big thing for Blue and a part of why she is so complicated in her own feelings bc she isn’t a loving mother or a cat who wants kits or a mate of her own ever. And that’s so interesting even if it’s all made up in my head!
I like to think in a better version these biases were properly put into the world and we see as cats like Firestar come into power the society changes a lot. Their more open, less harsh on outsiders atleast on his end. But there’s still cats who preach the old ways. In a ideal version more forward thinking cats like Squirrelflight, Harestar, Tigerheart would push this even more. So when tbc comes around it’s the main conflict as lines are drawn between the new and old thinking cats. PO3 maybe a reason so many cats woke up and realized that having such harsh views really didn’t make sense at all. It’s just such a interesting concept to follow through-
Seeing the narrative change through the clans is just so good to me. I think some past leaders were already pretty progressive like Tallstar and Crookedstar, and Leopardstar but she also upheld the harsh code views so she’s kind in the grey area to me. Idk just the idea of seeing the progress is so tasty. I meant this to go behind my last ask lol but kinda went outa hand
For realll gender in warrior cats is so weird. In early TPB it's like it was a factor, and it worked REALLY well with the harshness of clan politics and the extremely restrictive society. Then, in later books, it's like it pops up only randomly, unfocused, no real point made about it.
I think the newest arcs are starting to change, and allow the following arcs to 'respond' to the previous ones in a really good way. TPB to TNP to Po3 to OotS felt... far more contained in hindsight, so we were really denied the way that Firestar's impact should have set the cultural changes into motion.
Like it's a delayed reaction; I'm glad it's happening now, but for my rewrite, I want to set it up even sooner.
Anyway on the subject of Blue, these sorts of things are exactly why she's going to at the very least be a little bit genderqueer... the way that she loves her kits, but doesn't "fit" the ideal of motherhood, the WAY she has a sort of distant romantic fondness for other characters, but her ambitions and life goals 'get in the way' of her society's expected courting...
I'm probably projecting a bit onto her, haha. Bluestar brings out so much love in me. I think the closest labels I would put on Bonefall Bluestar would be agender (she/they out of convenience) and demiromantic. But I found a lot of happiness in myself and my own identity when I started using queer, so it extends to all my writing as well.
