It’s like the tnb anime team goes ‘well we may never get to work on this show again, let’s wrap everything up QUICK’ for both seasons and we had to speedrun through character development, then they goes ‘but what if there’s a next season’ and refused to give us any answer at all plot-wise.

So I finished all the new episodes and gave it a night to simmer on it. Like many of you, I was underwhelmed overall, and have listed my grievances below!

- Rosicky's motivation for wanting to kill Little Aurora independent of Oroborous was weak 🫤 explain to me again how assassinating the woman who helped NEXT be more accepted in society avenges your friends, because I'm not seeing it. Your basic NEXT friends would all be in internment camps right now if they were still alive. Thanks pal, way to avenge 👍
- All that fan service between Antonio and Ivan leading up to the big NO HOMO 😮💨 Listen, I get it, I've seen enough anime to know a mainstream show will never EVER canonize a gay couple if they possibly avoid it. But there were ZERO interactions between Antonio and Agnes leading up to that little confession. Seemed wildly out of place based on what we were shown.
- Similar to my point above, all Kotetsu and Barnaby get at the end is a fist bump?? Not even a hug guys, seriously?? 😢😮💨 You can gaslight us all you like, but Kotetsu and Barnaby have seen so many romantic sunsets together we know what's up, and the fic writers/fan artists will fix it for you. Damn your plausible deniability anyway!
- WHY did they end Lunatic's arc like that 😭 Talk about wasted potential! It's like the writers didn't really know what to do with him from the start of T&B 2. Don't overthink it, his name is Lunatic ffs! Let him be a Lunatic 😩
- Kotetsu's loss of power arc was way too rushed. I'm supposed to think because he heard Lunatic's warning about Mr. Legend combined with the fact that he's been losing power for a while means he's totally mentally prepared for a sudden and complete loss of all his powers?? How can he possibly know mid-battle that it's totally gone forever? There should have been whole episodes about this.
- Kaede's role 🥱 During the first T&B she was an integral part of the grand finale! This time she's simply a reminder that all basic NEXT are in internment camps. Maybe that's more believable for her, since she's still a child, but couldn't she have done something more interesting?
- Mattia 🙄 Fuck that guy, am I right? Ok seriously, to break down my dislike... It feels like he's there, specifically, to give an obviously gay Barnaby a love interest. They spent some time on his character design, made him a nice guy, and had Barnaby make time to have dinner with him when he and Kotetsu supposedly never can. But why, when we have a clearly bisexual Kotetsu and plenty of chemistry between them already? And don't give me the whole, Kotetsu is loyal forever to Tomoe. Of course Kotetsu still loves Tomoe! Does that mean he has to be celibate the whole rest of his life, to prove his loyalty?? No. He can, and should, move on.

Ok, there were a couple more minor points, but I'll wrap it up there.
I'm glad we got more episodes, but like with so many franchises, be it TV, movie, anime, whatever, it feels like some of what made the original special was missing from season 2. We all know what that means...
Time to move on to AO3!
