gravity falls queer headcanons, just for funsies <3

i'm gonna put these under a readmore actually because Wow There Is A Lot More Shit Than I Expected. gaze upon my based ass gender and sexuality takes at yer own risk /j

Dipper i think the general consensus in the gf fandom is that he's transmasc. and as a trans guy i LOVE this hc!!!! but i Also love to see dipper portrayed as other trans identities. like... tgirl dipper is also a favorite of mine, she holds a very special place in my heart. nby or genderfluid dipper even!!! i could go on, but bottom line is he is whatever i want him to be at any given time <3 as for his sexuality? probably some flavor of acespec but he's personally unlabeled, previously questioning but i figure he eventually decided it's not worth his time trying to find a label that fits. he definitely likes people of all genders though

Mabel mabel is ABSOLUTELY the sorta person to aggressively hoard gender labels and pronouns like a crow collecting shiny things. crunch has ALL the gender and ALL the pronoun. in fact, sometimes it makes him kinda sad when someone who knows bee goes by all pronouns exclusively uses "she" for fluff (not that this happens often!!! a quick glare from the grunks and the offender is put in their place lol). she lovessss femininity and actively embraces it all the time but it's not ONLY a girl- xey id as an autigender xenocollector girlboy and also as pan and nebularomantic!!!! boom probably knits their flags into all cake's sweaters too >:D

Ford previously identified as a binary trans man, but after spending three decades in another dimension and interacting with different species with other perceptions of gender, they now id as transmasc nonbinary. he doesn't mind he/him or they/them but he also likes neopronouns! (better believe ford has neos in languages you've never even heard of!!!) especially space-themed or science-themed ones. him and mabel definitely get along over using neos btw. also rift is demiromantic, demisexual and gay :) he was overjoyed when they found out about the ace/aro spectrum- because for a long time they felt like the fact that they only seldom felt attraction meant something was wrong with sol.

Stan trans nonbinary man who isn't picky with labels. while him and ford are both transmasc and nonbinary, he has a VERY different experience with it than his brother- he's very much a man, except she also likes to be a woman sometimes just for fun. stan probably spent a lot of time in his youth trying to be hypermasculine so he could pass better and fit in but now he Doesn't Care and just has fun confusing people by being a grumpy old guy who's also a lady sometimes. prefers he/him but genuinely doesn't care if people use other pronouns for her. also my man is bisexual as FUCK, mostly equal attraction to all genders but plays up his love for women a lot becausee... growing up during the 60s will do that to you i think.

BONUS ROUNDDDDDDDDDDD

Soos unlabeled sexuality, genderfluid and/or nonbinary with left bro in the words of one wise anon on tumblr dot com. uses he/him but other pronouns are fine too

Fiddleford greyromantic, bi and polyamorous binary trans man! like wendy, he's never cared much for the idea of medically transitioning. uses he/it but doesn't mind other pronouns

Bill aromantic, asexual and agender babey. uses any/all pronouns, though people usually default to he/him, which she doesn't really mind either!

I saw your post about neopronouns, so please explain: thou

(Btw, no need for this to be concise or anything. You just seem to really enjoy this subject so I wanted to give you an easy way to ramble. I love seeing people talk about the things they love!)

Where art thou, 'thou'?

All (bad) jokes aside, the linguistic timeline of 'thou'—or, more accurately, thou/thee/thy in the modern form of identifying pronouns—is one of my favorites I've ever looked into. I find it so fascinating. Thanks for the ask!

To best understand this, I think it'll be fun to make a timeline. So, here we go:

Old English

We're just getting started.

When modern speakers hear 'thou', we mainly associate it with religious texts or Shakespeare, which is understandable—the usage of 'thou' dates far back.

'Thou' was a singular pronoun, derived from Proto-Germanic, appearing as 'þu' (thu) in Old English (which, for the record, was over a thousand years ago—long before Shakespeare—and used between the years 450-1150). The fact that it was a singular pronoun is the important bit. Today, we see 'you' as being numerically ambiguous; we could be referring to a singular person, or many people, but in older forms of English the pronoun to refer to a singular person was for 'thou', leaving 'you' as a plural.

Middle English

Here come the French.

Then, as French continued to influence English, turning it to the much more readable Middle English (the language of Chaucer, for context), 'thou' was gradually pushed to the sidelines as the plural 'ye' and 'you' expanded to be used as a singular, too.

French's influence made the English 'you' the equivalent of the French 'vous': it is now formal—what you would use to address someone of high or equal social standing. In turn, 'thou' declined (in a process attributed to semantic derogation) to an informal pronoun used to address someone you were intimate with or, most notably, someone beneath you in the social rankings.

Early Modern English

Here's where things start to get bumpy.

In the mid-1600s, in comes George Fox who, in my words, would be described as a filthy prescriptivist. He was the founder of the Quakers, and a large part of early Quaker rhetoric was to avoid class distinction—something I could certainly get behind. Quaker speech, therefore, consciously avoided 'you', opting to use the more neutral thee/thou for everyone regardless of social standing. This extended to them sometimes getting into trouble for refusing to call judges 'your honour', and so forth. Thee/thou became associated with Quaker speech, and not many people liked the Quakers. However, this isn't the biggest impact on the usage—far from it, in fact.

The biggest reason, I believe, that 'thou' lost its popularity is because of developments in society—most notably travel and the industrial revolution, as well as the growing merchant class in the 17th century, which was when this pronoun really hit a decline. People stopped using 'thou' as often because it became harder to judge the class of whom you were speaking with. Social mobility disrupted the otherwise clear and stagnant order of British society. It would be a terrible insult to call someone above you 'thou' on accident, and so you would default to 'you'.

In fact, in Early and Late Modern English, 'thou' became an insult. Perhaps in one of the more surprising turns from something that was once a simple pronoun, to 'thou' someone (morphed into a verb) would insult them. As more people used the pronoun as a method of insulting others, it was favoured even less.

Rolling back to George Fox, a famous line of his goes as follows: "We were often beset and abused, and sometimes in danger of our lives for using these words to some proud men, who would say, 'What! You ill-bred clown, do you thou me?'"

From a simple, singular second-person pronoun, to a token of informality, to an insult, 'thou' has definitely had a ride. And, with its current association with religion, poetry, and the old classics, I earnestly hope it doesn't stop rolling.

Sexuality Headcanon: everyone in revue starlight is wlw in some way! I will admit I haven't thought abt the juniors' labels much until now, so probably questioning wlw and currently unlabeled :3

Gender Headcanon: Stella gives off the energy of someone who has no idea you can just choose your own expressions. once her eyes are open to it I think she'd be absolutely fascinated. unsure if she would explore her own though! maybe? she/her but would definitely love neopronouns! she'd identify as a princess and/or a magical girl 100%

A ship I have with said character: ohhhh my heart is exploding I love Stella and Shiro so much they're literally the pair ever. I love me a good devotee trope, a knight and their princess, and the poor things they make me so worried. I just want them to be okay!!! and maybe this is me being biased as Shiori, but I also have a huge soft spot for Stella and Shiori, it's something I never see talked about that I wish I saw more! I think people forget Shiori is still a junior even if she is an edel. hehe

I think about the fact that stella had a dream about shiori in her new juliet card like all the time!!!!!!!!! and the!! the!! the kiss stella and shiro had on stage!!!! it's so cute omg

A BROTP I have with said character: all of the Juniors, especially Ryoko and Shiori! she'd also get along well with Yachiyo and Mei Fan solely because they're. always around the juniors helping them and are also the youngest edels outside of Shiori.

A NOTP I have with said character: i think it's obvious, none of the upperclassmen outside of Shiori, but for personal reasons I'm not a fan of Stella and Ryoko as a ship!

A random headcanon: there was a post I saw forever ago or tags or smth about what if minku only recognized fumi as the girl who always gets pranked in ichie's vlog videos and so I think it'd be so so funny if most of the juniors barely knew about the previous frau jade which means they wouldn't idolize fumi all that much and that includes stella! she would just think fumi is cool and awkward, "shiorin's silly older sister who brings us snacks and looks mad all the time" skdakjsdskjd another fun one is that stella would probably try to tack an anime trope onto random situations to justify them happening, "this is just like in ... !", or would constantly act and pretend like she's the main character in an isekai or something

General Opinion over said character: Miss Stella!! My favorite real life magical girl. Not much to say that wouldn't have me endlessly gushing and rambling about her tropes and what about them makes me so normal so I'll keep it brief but Stella. Stella, Stella, Stella, she's probably my favorite junior! Maybe it's the Homumado of it all between her and Shiro that does it for me or maybe it's because of my memories as Shiori being so fond, who knows!!! who knows. nothing but good things and opinions about Stella! I wonder what kind of event we'll get with her that gives her a new card like Shiro, Kuina, and Minku recently! I bet it'll be with Ryoko to round them all out omg

Sexuality Headcanon: same as stella I hadn't thought about the juniors' in this way all that much because i often feel it's not my place to but something about her makes me want to say she'd have her lgbt awakening fairly early on, she's always idolized her upperclassmen. she plays up her denial when teased because of her dramatic personality but, maybe bisexual! we need more of those <3

Gender Headcanon: whoa siegfeld junior high your class president is gnc as f-

i don't think she wouldn't care about neopronouns much? but minku would, and Kuina enjoys seeing all the fun ones Minku adds to her hoard. I don't know my personal headcanon for Kuina yet unfortunately! maybe another time!

A ship I have with said character: Kuina and Minku!! I don't think I could see either of them with anyone else they're just so perfect for each other to me. mini yachimei how could you not love them !

A BROTP I have with said character: easily easily easily Kuina and Mei Fan! especially with the new circus event coming out, the parallels between Kuina and Mei Fan and Minku with Yachiyo, Minkuina and Yachimei .... you know, you know. I love that Mei Fan watches out for her and that both have so much to relate and reflect from each other, and I love that the edels have their assigned junior to see themselves in or be a senpai towards. Also, Kuina and the other juniors + Shiori naturally! they're besties!

A NOTP I have with said character: none of the upperclassmen! I don't think I could see Shiro/Kuina much but that's basically it!

A random headcanon: Kuina is a squishmallow collector and enjoyer, she's embarrassed to show anybody outside of Minku but it's something she dedicates a lot of energy to!!! and she never cared a lot for idols until Minku, and now she goes out of her way to keep up with the new trends and news just to talk about it together.

General Opinion over said character: I LOVE KUINA!!!!! That's my little special guy!!!! I feel so responsible over everything that happens to her she's like a little sister to me and I love her soooo much omg, she's probably my favorite junior alongside Stella!! and yes this is my bias but I wouldn't want to leave the others out bc all of the juniors are such good characters!! I cannot wait for the circus event to make it to the world wide server, Sun and I only play in ww but we do keep up with the translations!! that story makes me feel so much in all directions so I'm literally kajshdkhasdhadshd crazy crazy but anyway! Kuina! She's so ambitious and dramatic it's so funny, it's so cute the way she sees Akira and the others :sob: she deserves more cards asap i'm so serious btw

i believe in ship and let ship, kink tomato, don't like don't read, and am heavily anti-censorship and strongly believe that you can enjoy things or find things attractive in fiction that you wouldn't in real life.

i also believe that bullying, doxxing, seeking out people simply because of the things that they like in fiction or what have you, are much much worse than lolis or shotas or incest in fiction.

<- that doesn't mean you aren't allowed to feel uncomfortable with these things, it means you shouldn't to harass people over it.

i ship incest, i ship age gap occasionally, i ship all sorts of weird things. if that's not your cup of tea, block and move on. i forget to tag things a lot.

i don't care what labels you use, i care about whether or not you treat others with respect.

"terfs" do not treat others with respect. "radfems" do not treat others with respect. those who call others slurs- yes, even if they are allowed to reclaim those slurs- do not treat others with respect. those who use slurs that they are not able to reclaim do not treat others with respect. groomers, child or animal or anyone else molesters, etc, do not treat others with respect.

-------stances on endogenic/traumagenic system debate----------

man, i don't care. genuinely. and i mean that in the nicest way possible. i've noticed that people who are endogenic systems oftentimes do seem traumagenic. this doesn't mean that i think endogenic systems or nondisordered systems don't exist. i'm just saying that there isn't enough research about it, and at the end of the day, as long as you treat others with respect, and that includes yourself, it doesn't really matter.

-------stances on dysphoria or dysmorphia----------

being trans is feeling like ur body doesn't match up with your identity. that's not necessarily dysphoria. you don't have to have dysphoria to not be cis.

for dysmorphia, you can have dysmorphia for non human shit.

for otherkinity and the like, you do you! as long as it isn't hurting you if you recognize it, it doesn't matter <3

i haven't watched it in a while but i have so much love for boy meets world,, AUGH pleaseee. also i watched girl meets world like 5 times before i dipped my dogs into the boy meets world series! shawn hunter my beloved..

i love doki doki literature club!! yuri is such a mood, i just think they're neat, natsuri ftw!

mirai nikki, i just think they're neat, it's continuity is weird, i haven't finished the series tho!! i started the manga before i started watching the anime series ( i think im on vol 7 of the manga? idk )

i love legend of zelda so much it's like my first fandom, i don't know everything 'bout the lore but i love it so much.
