guardian as a title {Machine Gun Kelly}
Summary: Casie's not technically your kid, but as you think about your future with Colson, maybe that won't always be the case.
A/N: 2512 words. I keep seeing fics about having a kid with MGK, but there's a lot of folks who can't have kids or don't want to have kids, but they shouldn't be excluded from having fluffy family fics!! And hes already got a kick ass daughter, so here. Written on my phone so potentially buggy. I just kind of love writing MGK who's so loving and protective of his daughter okay??
----
It took a long time to meet Casie. Colson had been hesitant; if you met his daughter, that meant whatever was going on between the two of you was real, was serious, and he'd been burned too many times to make that step so easily. Of course she knows about you, but she understands her father's hesitation, and the two of you unknowingly share patience, waiting for Colson to feel ready.
So you and he had been dating for almost a full year before you finally meet her. He picks a fancy restaurant for the three of you, and as you're making your way there, you realise you're actually nervous. By now you know where you fit in Colson's life; his friends like you, even his management team likes you, but Casie? You have absolutely no idea how she feels about you, but you know without a shadow of a doubt, that if she ends up not liking you, you can kiss any sort of future with Colson goodbye. To him, Casie hangs the stars in the sky, and he'd choose her every single time, not that you'd ever expect anything different.
You get to the restaurant first, and the reservation is under his name, so you head on in and nervously start on the ice water they bring to your table. About five minutes later, you hear Colson call your name, and you look up from your phone, eyes wide, and stand abruptly. Casie looks nervous too, all of seven years old in a pair of dark blue jeans and a pretty blouse, and you smile at her as they approach.
"Hi," she's quiet, looking you over and evaluating you, and after a moment you offer your hand. She shakes it, grip surprisingly strong for a seven year old, and she tells you its nice to meet you.
"Its nice to meet you too, I've heard so much about you," you tell her, and she gives a little smile at that. Colson pulls out her chair for her and she thanks him. She's so proper, making a show of putting her napkin in her lap as you pour her a glass of water.
Its awkward at first, of course it is, but then Casie asks what you think of the album Colson's about to release, and the tension breaks. Your enthusiasm for his music goes a long way to reassuring her it seems, and its suddenly much easier to relax into the conversation.
After dinner, you suggest swinging by McDonalds for milkshakes, and Casie practically cheers. You graciously slide into the back seat before any confusion arises, and when Casie's putting on her seatbelt, Colson looks over his shoulder to you and gives a warm, grateful look. Its going better than he'd hoped.
Its still a little strange; you practically live with Colson, though previously you've been crashing on a friend's sofa whenever Casie's come to visit, so its strange to wake up in his house on a Saturday morning, and find the two of them eating waffles and watching cartoons. It's… endearing.
Casie's staying for two weeks this time, and on the third day of her stay, Colson's called away for a meeting about his album that was releasing in a few months. He says it'll only be a few hours, but you need to watch Casie. Its easy enough to keep her entertained; after lunch she pulls out her DS, and sits next to you, not really paying attention to the Spongebob rerun on TV.
"What are you playing?" You can't help but be intrigued at the strangely familiar music coming from the device. She turns the screen towards you and you see a little dog panting happily. Nintendogs. A wave of nostalgia hits you. "That game's so old," you say with a gentle smile, but Casie just looks confused. Its turns out to be Nintendogs + Cats, but the premise is still the same. She's surprised that you take such an interest in the game, and is more than excited to show you the tricks her dogs can do, and tells you very matter-of-factly that you can walk the dog to the dog park, so long as she supervises. By the end of the day, the two of you are acting like old friends, and Colson comes home to the pair of you curled up on the sofa trying to decide which dog she should get next in the game.
She names it after you. Its far more touching than you realised it would be.
For the next few months, whenever she visits, she makes sure to tell you how Y/N The Dog is doing, right up until she gets Animal Crossing: New Leaf and lets Nintendogs fall to the wayside.
You love her dad, and you take a genuine interest in her, and after several months and a few meetings over coffee, her mom trusts you to look after her when Colson's away doing press for his album and his new tour. Thats all that matters to Casie.
You start to think the world of her; she's an incredible kid, bright and fun, but strangely sensible at times, and effortlessly cool. You find yourself thinking that if you were ever to have a kid, you'd want them to be like her, though you know children of your own aren't on the cards for your future. You'd known that for a while now, and so did Colson, though neither of you try to dwell on it much.
Whatever chance Colson takes to support his daughter, you're there too. Recitals, public speaking contests, science fairs; if you're able to be there, you'll be there, making a conscious effort to befriend her mother along the way. Its clear you intend to stick around; you're good for Colson and you're good for Casie, and that's the mpst important thing.
As your year with Colson turns to two, to three, to four, the two of you start to consider what your future together would look like.
He proposes quietly over dinner at the same restaurant he took you and Casie all those years ago. Of course you say yes. Of course you both FaceTime Casie the next day and she cheers so loudly her mother's dog starts barking in the background.
"Can I help plan your wedding? Please, please, please?" She begs, and it hits that oh, that's right, a proposal leads to a wedding. You had been so caught up in the moment that the reality hadn't quite hit you. You were going to marry Colson Baker. Your smile widens at the very thought.
"We'll talk about it when you're next here," Colson tells her with a grin, his hand in yours, fiddling with the engagement ring. Casie is over the moon, and her mother peers into the video chat wearing a warm smile, congratulating you both.
After the call ends, you're quick to start peppering him with kisses.
"Do I take your last name?" You ask, breathless, straddling him.
"If you want," he shrugs, easy smile on his lips.
"Y/N Baker." There's a kind of awe in your voice as you say it, and Colson reaches out to cup your cheek in his hand, and you turn and press a kiss to his palm.
"Y/N Y/L/N-Baker," he suggests softly, and your expression lights up as you lean into to kiss him again, a giggle escaping you.
"I hadn't even considered hyphenating!" You say with delight.
Casie helped pick the wedding colors, and was quick to start a pinterest board for inspiration, and seemed more excited than ever, bursting with ideas and always eager to help, always asking questions.
"So you're gonna be my step-mom?" She asks, and you make a thoughtful noise in the back of your throat. You're on your phone looking through wedding dresses, and she's playing Breath of the Wild on Colson's Switch, and she pauses the game to look at you. "Do I have to call you that?" She sounds dubious, and you laugh lightly.
"No way," you assure her, "only call me your Step-Mom if I start acting like a Disney villain, okay?"
Casie snorts a laugh and agrees, going back to her game, but something about the interaction sits with you. You keep thinking about it, keeping coming back to it, and you're not quite sure why until the day she breaks her arm trying to skateboard in the driveway.
Thankfully its Summer and you're home, but Colson's on set filming The Dirt when you hear her start to cry. You get her to the hospital quickly and call Colson, and he says he's on his way. The nurse approaches you, looking at the paperwork you've filled out.
"I'm so sorry, ma'am," and that's never a good sign, "we really need a parent or legal guardian here to fill out this paperwork for her."
"I'm going to be her step mother in less than a month-" you tried desperately, giving a crestfallen look to where Casie was being administered pain medication. The nurse gave a deep sigh, and you already know that almost step mother isn't enough, "her dad's going to be here in fifteen minutes." You tell the nurse, and she gives a patient smile, somewhat reassured.
Colson comes in his full Tommy Lee getup, and rushes to wrap Casie up in as much of a hug as he can without hurting her. Its a heartwarming sight, and just having him there eases the rest of Casie's anxieties.
"They wouldn't let a doctor see me because Y/N's not my legal guardian," she whined, a little out of it from the pain medication, "she takes such good care of me; everyone here's a dick," she grumbles, and Colson laughs gently, sitting beside her in the hospital bed, casting you a grateful look. He won't admonish her on her cursing, not here, not now. There's a warm fondness blooming in your chest at her words, a protectiveness that you hadn't realised you'd been harbouring until today.
Casie stays in the emergency department overnight, with you and Colson by her bedside the entire time. You call to inform her mom, who's just glad that you got her to the hospital quickly. The next day, she's released with a cast and pain medication, and is entirely too grumpy for her usually sunny disposition, though she cheers up quickly when you tell her she can have whatever she wants for lunch and dinner.
"I'm gonna have a cast for your wedding!" She bemoans the next day, reading over the instructions the doctor had given you.
"And you're gonna look fantastic regardless," you tell her, but she just throws herself onto the sofa with a huff. Eventually she rolls onto her side and switches on the TV, occupying herself while Colson calls you into the bedroom.
He's sitting on the edge of the bed, fidgeting, looking surprisingly serious. When you enter, he looks up, expression pensive.
"Everything okay?"
"I just hate to see her in pain," he admits with a sigh, but you can tell that's not all that's on his mind. You won't push him, will let him work up to whatever he has to say, and so you just sit on the bed beside him and wrap an arm around him.
"So I've been thinking," he starts, "and Casie's been thinking it too, and we ran it past her mom, because we wanted everyone sort of on board before we brought it to you," and you're not quite sure where he's going, but your heart is in your throat, "and yesterday just made me think we should have talked to you about it sooner -"
"About what?" You ask, voice quiet.
"What do you think about becoming one of Casie's legal guardians?" A bright warmth floods through you at his question, and your at a loss for words, so he continues, "you do take care of her, and you know, you're family, and she adores you, and it means there won't be anymore shit like what happened yesterday at the hospital -"
"She'd sort of be my kid too?" You ask, quietly hopeful, and Colson goes quiet, takes in your smile and realises what he's implying. Slowly, he nods.
"She'd be your kid too."
"And she- you're all okay with this?"
"Casie and her mom both love you, babe, you've made it clear that you put her safety first; her mom wouldn't have agreed otherwise."
"And Casie… wants this?"
Colson nods sincerely, pulling you in close to him.
"What do you think? I know its a lot of responsibility -" he starts, but you cut him off, grinning.
"I'd kill for her; honestly I couldn't ask for a better kid," you tell him, and he's trying and failing to suppress and enormous grin.
"She's is gonna roast the shit out of me for taking so long to ask you," he admitted, and you snort a laugh, "I had to talk her down from a proposal of her own, though I will say, she designed a pretty sick banner. Ask her about it, I'm sure she'd love to show you." He chuckles fondly, before growing quiet and contemplative, "I'm so happy about this, babe."
"You should be," you huff out a laugh, but there's a disarming sincerity in his eyes when he looks at you.
"No, I mean it, before I met you, I was always so fucking worried that the girls I met would be put off by me having a kid, or they'd get jealous of the attention I give her, but she's my fucking daughter, man, and I knew if I met someone who loved her even half as much as I love her, I'd have hit the jackpot," he paused, giving you a warm, appreciative look, "and here you are."
"Oh," and you feel tears pricking your eyes, unable to stop smiling at the sentiment, "you're a good fucking dad, you know that?"
"I hope so," he says softly, before his expression brightens, "you wanna go tell her the good news?"
You head down to the living room while Colson collects himself, and you find Cassie drawing on her cast with sharpie.
"Hey, you mind if I float you an idea?" You ask, sitting beside her. She hands over the sharpie and offers her cast for you to sign.
"Is it about the wedding?"
"Not really," you say airily, avoiding her intrigued gaze, "what would you say to me becoming your legal guardian?"
Casie cheers before you can even finish the question, and before you can finish signing your name, she's wrapping her good arm around you.
"You're gonna sort of be my kid, is that okay?" You hear yourself asking, and she rolls her eyes, grinning.
"No, I'm cheering and hugging you because I hate the idea," she snickers, sarcasm dripping from her words, but she gives you a sincere smile, "dude, I love you, I'm pumped to be your kid, can you not tell?"
My kid, you think to yourself with a smile, the best kid I could ever ask for.

Tech Whiz ~ Matt Devlin - Part 1.
Hey guys, so I recently watched all the episodes of Law and Order: UK that Matt was in and came up with this idea for a story.  Hope you all enjoy and let me know if you want to be tagged in future parts.  Edits will be made later on.
Pairing: Matt Devlin X OC. Summary: Saylor Clarke gets a new job working on the tech aspects of solving the crimes that Ronnie and Matt investigate. She swears to herself that she will not get into any office romances but the more time she spends with Matt the harder it gets not to fall for him. Someone on the sidelines however are always watching their every interacting, when things go to the next level Saylors mystery admirer will make themselves known in the worst way possible.
Tagging those who showed interest in my post about this story, if you don’t want to be tagged in further parts let me know and i’ll untag it immediately.  Thank you for showing support though <3 @dreamingundone , @fyeahmeninroyalnavy , @alittlepronetopanic

As it is for anyone, the first day of walking into a new workplace was a nerve wracking experience. It was only made more daunting as Saylor took in all the bodies dressed in various formal suits and ties, pencil skirts and blazers.
Of course, Saylor was also dressed presentably, but the big difference between her and her new colleagues was the dip dyed shoulder length emerald hair she sported, the numerous piercings in her ears - which were mainly covered by her hair - and a small green ring through her nostril.
She was grateful her sleeve tattoo in progress was covered under her blazer or she would have felt even more uneasy than she already did. Her only body art on show was five thin lines encircling four of her fingers. They were dainty and usually most people didn’t even notice them unless they were in close proximity to her. Even so, she loosely clasped her hands into fists in case anyone decided to peer too closely.
Still, alternative styles evidently were not a popular sight in the The Crown office, because as Saylor walked down the aisles of cubicles, eyes zoned in on her. She tried to remind herself that this was not the first time she’d faced stares over her appearance and that it no way detracted from her professionalism or ability to do her job. That’s all that mattered, and she would remind them all of that in due course.
Arriving at a standard looking office that overlooked the city, she met DI Natalie Chandler who went over all the necessary debriefing and documentation with her. The woman’s kind nature lifted some of the nerves rattling through her and she hoped she would get to work with Ms Chandler in the future.
Natalie then led her over to the middle of the bustling office to a set of desks where two men had their backs to her.
“Guys! This is our new tech master, Saylor Clarke.”
Both of them swung around in their chairs, the older gentleman who sat to the right and she shared a warm smile with him, but what caught Saylor’s was the young man on the left. “I’d like you to meet DS Ronnie Brooks and DS Matthew Devlin.” She smiled, meeting both their gazes in greeting.
“She’ll be taking over from Angela from today.” Before Natalie walked away she gave both of them a pointed stare. “Be nice! Look after her.”
“We’re always nice!” Matt called after her playfully then turned on Saylor and she forgot her own name for a breath. “Hey, Mathew Devlin but you can call me Matt.” He held out his hand for her to shake.  Worried her hand would be sweaty due to the first day nerves and her body’s response to meeting someone as striking as Matt before, Saylor hesitated, but suddenly she realised how rude that would look and slipped her hand into his. It enveloped hers and she hoped he didn’t hear the way her breathing jittered at the contact and noticed the electricity that skated up her skin leaving goosebumps in its wake, and she truly hoped he didn’t feel the slight moist covering on her hand. If he clocked onto anything at all, he never let it show as he gave her a friendly grin and returned to his desk.
With ocean eyes that shamed the carribean shores, sunkissed skin that enhanced every muscular valley in his bare forearms and bone structure that rivaled the godly marbled statues she’d seen at the A&E, it was fair to say Matt might have been the most mesmerizing man she’d ever laid her eyes upon.
One word came to her mind. Shit.
How was she going to stop herself from crushing on Mr Devlin?
“Ronnie Brooks,” The older man stated, waving a hand. “don’t worry you’ll settle in right away. If you need anything though don’t be afraid to ask us. Me and Matty will be happy to help.” They both offered her bright and reassuring smiles and she felt instantly welcome in their company.
“Thank you, guys. It’s nice to meet you both. I guess I better go log into my computer, and get it all set up.” Ronnie pointed out her desk which was a little way across the room from theirs, she thanked him and made her way over, cursing herself on the way for being so awkward.
Her first day seemed to flash by, and before she knew it, it was dark outside and people started leaving the office in drips and drabs. Nothing too exciting had happened through the duration of the day. It wasn’t as though she had expected to be thrown straight into the middle of the chaos on day one, but admittedly, lack of productivity had her itching in her seat.
However, her day was pleasant nonetheless; she had managed to set up her computer almost exactly the way she liked it, she’d gone and spoke to some of her other new colleagues around the office to get to know who she would be working with and had been pleasantly surprised at the warmth she was met with. She shouldn’t have assumed they would judge her based on her looks, she needed to squash that insecurity.
But mostly, she had chatted with Matt and Ronnie. Apparently, not much was happening in the way of cases, so they had time to tell her about some of their most interesting cases and how tech had helped them catch their criminal in the end. She looked forward to being able to be a part of that team and process in the future.
Both men were incredibly charming and sweet. She counted herself lucky that she’d been put in an office with such lovely company. Ronnie was instantly like a father figure to her, he seemed gentle and caring and she was in no doubt that he’d be the first to her aid if she needed it. Matt on the other hand spoke to her in a more flirtatious manner, which of course she could never honestly say she minded. It was actually an honour to have such a beautiful man trade playful banter with her, but she had to remind herself that this was her work place now and no matter how she may want to, nothing past friendship was to be permitted between the two of them.
There was only one person she met in that office that first day that made her uncomfortable; Mike had walked up to her desk, and she could tell right off the bat that this man was typically shy. Knowing this feeling all too well she greeted him warmly, but as soon as he started speaking she got an unsettling feeling from the interaction. She couldn’t, however, put her finger on what exactly it was that was making her so uneasy about the man who had only said one word to her.
After the single interaction though, she didn’t see him for the rest of the day so she brushed it off and buried herself in customising her systems to her personal preference.
At the end of the day, she was at her desk switching everything off when she felt someone approach her from behind. She sent a silent prayer that whoever it was, it wasn’t Mike. Regardless, of the lack of action she’d seen through the day, she still felt drained from all the information she’d had to retain and had no energy left to try to understand him.
“How are you getting home?”
Turning, a jolt of excitement spiked through her fatigue when she saw Matt standing a few feet from her wrapping his scarf around his neck. “Not to sound creepy or anything, I just thought It would be decent of me to offer you a lift seen as it’s pitch black outside and you said earlier that you live on the other side of London.”
She smiled not only at how genuinely adorable this man was with his slight pout, but also at the fact he remembered when she’d idly said where she lived. Then she quickly reminded herself not to overthink his basic capacity to listen to information. She couldn’t let her head run amok. “Thank you Matt, that’s really nice that you thought of me. But I have my bike.”
“Bike? As in a peddle bike? I mean I could probably fit it in the back of my car. London traffic in the dark isn’t the nicest to people on bikes.”
“Erm, no, my motorbike.” Matt looked taken aback at this. Saylor simply laughed at his surprised expression.
They both started for the door. “Okay this I have to see!” She looked at him confused but she couldn’t hide the amusement on her face. “Oh no I didn’t mean you riding a motorbike I meant the actual bike.”
“Sure! You can come meet Alvin.”
Matt stopped in his tracks in the middle of the foyer, Saylor stopping a step in front of him, eyebrows raised. “What?”
“You named your bike after a chipmunk?”
She burst out laughing at the remark, envisioning the small rodent in question. “No.” she shook her head. “I named my bike after the Glam Rock star Alvin Stardust, a childhood favourite.” Sniggering to herself as she walked out of the revolving doors.
Matt was close on her heels as she walked to where her bike was parked on the side of the street. Stopping in front of it, she reached inside of her jacket to grab the key for the little storage box on the back of the bike.
“Matt meet Alvin, Alvin meet Matt.”
“Wow, such a beautiful bike.” Matt slowly walked around observing every detail of the vehicle.
“Thanks. I try to keep him in tip top shape.” Matt paused again looking over the bike to Saylor who had finally freed her helmet from the box.
“You do maintenance on the bike yourself?”
She looked up to find Matt staring at her in something akin to awe. “Yeah, I won't let anyone else touch him.”
She got up on the bike and started up the engine. Itroared to life.
Putting on the helmet, she turned to Matt one last time. “If you’re lucky one day I might let you ride him, I’ll see you tomorrow.” She winked at him, closed the visor and as Matt walked back to the pavement, he watched as she safely pulled out and sped off.
The last look on his face said it all; maybe she wasn’t the only one that was going to struggle toeing the line between friendship and something more.
...............
The next morning was uneventful, but Saylor didn’t mind too much. It gave her additional time to settle in and socialise some more. Which included Matt.
When she got home the previous night she couldn’t shake the smile from her face. Her interactions with him the previous day had left her feeling like a campfire had ignited in her stomach and set a flock of butterflies into a frenzy above.
“Hey, a few of us are heading out for something to eat tonight if you would care to join us?” She turned in her chair to find Matt and Ronnie stood behind her with hopeful smiles on their faces.
“Sure, why not.” She leaned back in her chair and grinned at them both.
“I hope I’m invited too.”
As if out of nowhere, Mike appeared beside Saylor, that uneasy feeling came back to her. She shifted in her chair then glanced at Matt who seemed to sense her unease. He moved to perch himself on the corner of Saylor’s desk, putting himself between them. She looked up at him and gave him a silent ‘Thank you!’
“Sure. Everyone's invited.” Ronnie chimed in.
Saylor and Matt both snapped their heads to Ronnie. Obviously, he hadn’t read the room, but it was too late. Mike said he would meet them at the pizza place later and had walked off.
Unable to pinpoint exactly what it was about Mike that gave her the creeps, she felt a little bad, but every time he was near her, the hair on the back of her neck would stand up and she had the greatest desire to be as far away from him as possible.
“Jeez, Ronnie, why’d you invite him? Can’t you see that he makes Saylor uncomfortable?”
Ronnie looked at Saylor, confused.
“Does he make you uncomfortable? I can go over and uninvite him?” Ronnie started walking to Mike's desk but Saylor reached out an arm and stopped him.
“No, no. It’s okay. I’m probably just overreacting, he’s probably a really nice person, I have to give him a chance. Besides this is only my second day, he barely said two words to me. Can’t be making enemies straightaway, can I?” She smiled at them both, trying to be as lighthearted as she could. Ronnie said a simple okay as he walked back to his desk.
“Did you bring the bike today?” Matt said still perched on her desk, she swung back round to face her computer.
“I got a cab today actually, I never ride when it’s raining.” She chuckled to herself. “One of my mum's rules, actually. I understand though. Plus, I’d rather not turn up to work drenched.”
“So, you’ll be getting a cab home?”
She just nodded as she typed away on the keypad. If someone would have asked her what she was working on she wouldn’t have been able to answer. It was hard to concentrate when she had such a handsome man distracting her.
“Or I could give you a lift after the pizza place, I mean I’m the designated driver so....”
She stopped typing and looked up, catching his eye. “Sure, I guess it saves me some money. Unless you want gas money which I will happily provide.”
“Don’t worry about it. Just buy me a coke at the pub.” He snapped his finger and pointed at her with a wide grin.
“You got it.” She tilted her head as she looked at him, matching his grin.
“Great, I guess I’ll meet you back here when it’s time to leave.” Nodding again, she watched as he got up from the desk and walked away with the biggest smile on his lips.
Sighing, she knew she’d spend the rest of the day trying not to overanalyse said smile and tame the butterflies wreaking havoc inside her.
By the end of her second morning she’d already made some amazing friends. She just hoped that it would stay like that, that she wouldn’t ruin this job for herself like she did the last one.
No way would she let that happen again.
Time ticked by ever so slowly. Every time she looked at the clock, only mere minutes had passed. Now and then, she’d peer over to Matt’s desk. Most of the time he’d have his back to her, but sometimes he’d be talking to Ronnie and would catch her eye, a dazzling smile appearing on his face.
She didn’t have the adequate vocabulary to describe how adorable Matt Devlin truly was.
After her lunch, she’d been given some work to do which she became immersed in, completely forgetting about the time and what was happening around her. She only became aware of her surroundings again when Ronnie placed a warm hand on her shoulder.
“You ready?”
She looked up to him smiling down at her, she saved her work and switched off the computer. “More than ready.” Grabbing her bag and jacket, she met Ronnie by the door.
“Matt just had to go drop off some paperwork, he said he’d meet us by the car.” Nodding, she followed Ronnie out to the back parking lot.
Less than a minute later, Matt came strolling over to them smiling, swinging his keys around his finger.
Ronnie let Saylor ride shotgun, even though she insisted she would be fine in the back seat.  “It’s the most gentlemanly thing to do.”  He smiled as he got into the back. She looked at Matt over the roof of the car rolling her eyes but got in the font anyway.
When they reached the little pizza place, they found a booth near the back and settled in. Once Matt had taken his coat and scarf off, he got the drink orders and went to the bar.
Ronnie and Saylor were having a full blown conversation when the bell above the door chimed, indicating that someone had entered the restaurant.
Both looking up at the noise, they could see four people entering and looking around. Saylor only recognised one of the people. Mike.
“Oh god.”
She shook her head and looked to Ronnie.
“What is it?” She enquired.
“That women behind Mike, she’s from the evidence team. Completely obsessed with Matt, finds any excuse to come up to the office to see him.” He sniggered, evidently amused.
“Honestly, can’t say I blame her.” Saylor laughed at the surprise on Ronnie’s face.
“I’ll remember that remark!” He jokingly threatened her, but before Saylor could reply, the group had reached their table, and the women who Ronnie had pointed out sat down next to Saylor.
“I’ll go help Matt with the drinks now we have more people.” Ronnie got up and headed to where Matt still stood at the bar.
Saylor just stared after him in complete disbelief that he had left her with a bunch of strangers.
Not even a second after Ronnie had left his seat, Mike slid in the booth next to her. She tried her damn hardest not to shift away from him when he shuffled in closer to her.
Finally, the two men came back from the bar, hands full of drinks and distributed them out to everyone. She caught Matt's eye when he handed her, her drink then his eyes shifted to both sides of her. His eyes showed concern but he mouthed a ‘sorry’ to her. Replying with a gentle smile, she let him know she was okay. For now.
“Hey, I don’t think I’ve seen you around before. My name is Alice! and this is Chase, we work in the evidence lab.” Alice held out her hand which Saylor shook, then proceeded to shake Chase’s hand as well, of which he held onto her hand a second longer but then just smiled at her and sat back into the booth.
“Saylor, I’m the new tech wiz in the office.” She changed her attention back to Alice who was now sizing her up.
“Oh, lucky you. You get to be in the office all the time and be around Matt.” Saylor looked to Matt who was conversing with Ronnie and tried to think innocent and professional thoughts.
“He’s an amazing person. I mean I’ve only known him for two days and he’s been nothing but kind to me.”
“He’s more than amazing. Have you seen him? He’s so yummy. If only he could see how amazing I am, I’d take him straight home and do nasty things with him.” Saylor was taken aback by the way Alice was talking about one of her coworkers.
All she could do was laugh uncomfortably and turn away hoping to end the conversation but she forgot that the person on the other side of her was Mike. She was trapped.
“Don’t take no notice of her, she has no filter and has been completely obsessed over Matt for years.” Chase reached over and moved Alice out of his way so he could sit next to Saylor. “I’ve heard way worse come from her mouth about that man.” Saylor gave the man a ‘oh god’ look but smiled at him anyway, glad that finally she was sitting next to someone she could converse with normally.
The rest of the meal was relatively normal. Although she missed the time with Ronnie and Matt, she found that Chase was also someone she could see herself calling a friend in the future. He’d also saved her when Mike shifted unbearably close to her so again, but then Chase switched seats meaning she was back next to Alice, and she’d take that over sitting next to Mike any day.
When they were getting ready to leave, Chase also offered her a lift home but she had to decline, looking up to see Matt waiting for her by the door, his sparkling eyes dancing in the candlelight. “Thank you, that’s really kind, but Matt already promised me a lift home. Thank you for saving me tonight, twice!” She laughed.
“No problem. Anytime.” Then he did something unexpected. He grabbed her hand and kissed the back of it. She didn’t know how to react so she just smiled and waved her goodbyes.
“You ready?” Matt smiled at her, opening the door.
“Yes.” She walked out into the rain, Ronnie trailing behind her and the three made their way to the car parked just outside.
They dropped Ronnie off first and bid their goodnights to him, and then for the first time that night, it was just the two of them.
Saylor gave him the directions to her flat before any conversations started.
“Seems you have many admirers already!”
Saylor chuckled and turned to look at Matt, the streetlights highlighting his sharp features as they drove. “That's funny because I hear you have admirers too!”
“Urg, if you’re talking about Alice, I don’t want to hear about it. She’s a nice person and I respect her but agreeing to go on a date with her was one of the worst decisions I've ever made.” He glanced at Saylor in the passenger seat to see her beaming at him.
“You went on a date with her? I bet that was eventful!.”
“Oh! it was, but I’m not going to give you the satisfaction of hearing about it.” Saylor huffed out a ‘spoil sport’ and went back to facing the front of the car.
“Did you enjoy tonight?”
“I did, everyone’s so nice. Shame I didn’t get to speak to you and Ronnie much. I was kind of trapped between Alice and Mike, who, for some reason I can’t put my finger on why, but he gives me the creeps.” She shivered in her seat.
“Yeah, I could see how uncomfortable you were with him earlier.”
“Luckily Chase was there to put a barrier between us.” She didn’t look but she could tell he was glancing at her.
“Ah Chase! think he has a thing for you.” They both looked at each other when Saylor laughed out loud.
“Yeah well nothing will come of it. For one, he’s a nice guy, but I don’t feel any attraction towards him. And secondly, I promised myself long ago not to date coworkers.” Matt's face fell, and for a moment she thought she saw disappointment in his eyes, but it was only a flash.
She couldn’t say anymore though as he pulled up to her apartment.
Looking up at her door, she sighed. She’d told Matt that about coworker relationships, but every time they were close, all she wanted to do was be in his arms and just feel his arms wrapped around her.
She opened the door but turned back to Matt. “Thank you for being so kind to me in my first few days and for dropping me off home.”
He smiled in reply and she wondered if she’d ever get tired of that smile. She doubted it.
Without time to think it through, she reached over the centre console and kissed him on the cheek. Once she realised what she had done, she moved back a bit to read his reaction, but all she saw was shock and happiness all mixed together,  and gods, she really wanted to kiss him. She could see he wanted the same as his eyes travelled down to her lips.
But she couldn’t let it happen.
So, she pulled back further and finally got out of the car.
“Goodnight Matt.”

For the Hero/villain ideas: Patton as a villain who is always willing to watch out for young heroes (capture instead of kill, give them snacks, etc.)
This is part 1! Here’s Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6
Virgil groaned as he woke up. His head was pounding and it felt like he had been run over by a truck. Several times. Virgil tried to move his hands up from his sides to cup his head but his hands only twitched in response. He forced his eyes open and looked down at himself. He was covered head to toe in bandages and was lying down on a large bed. He raised to his head.
His stomach dropped. This wasn’t his room.
That was when the memory from the night before hit him. He had been called by one of the older heroes, The Prince, to help out with a group of thugs that The Prince thought had been hired by one of the city’s villains. He had asked Virgil to take care of them while he went after the villain himself.
Virgil had agreed. Even though he never handled the big name villains like the Prince, usually going after things that the big heroes didn’t have time for, but he wasn’t about to let these thugs walk around his neighbourhood and do whatever they wanted.
He had thought that everything was going fine. It was a small group of people unloading boxes from vans. Virgil had recognized the logos on the boxes as Dr. Logic’s. A man that had a history of selling to villains. He hadn’t hesitated to attack. It had been an easy fight, Virgil disarming the grunts easily and knocking them out. But it had been a setup. The first box he had opened up had released a violent electric shock up his body that had sent Virgil to the ground. He didn’t remember anything else after that.
Whoever had been brought those boxes had known that a hero would be coming to stop them. And had decided to keep Virgil as a little prize.
Panic started to set in. What were they going to do to him? His mask was gone so they probably knew who he was and his powers weren’t responding. This was a nightmare.
Virgil had heard stories about villains did to heroes, had seen some of the Prince’s scars. He hadn’t thought he’d ever had to deal with that sort of thing. Virgil didn’t deal with villains, he dealt with street crimes. He never thought that a villain would be coming after him. He never should’ve taken this job, he was going to be killed, tortured, picked apart piece by piece.
A whimper escaped Virgil when he heard a door creak open. He tried to steel himself for what he knew was coming next. He had to be strong, he had to be strong. Prince would come for him, he would. He just needed to hold out until then.
He looked around the room desperately for something that he could use to fight back but there was nothing. It was an empty room with only the bed Virgil was on, another door that had to hold something terrible in it, and a chair beside it to fill it. He tried to sit up but his muscles barely twitched. Had he been drugged?
The door swung open and Virgil shrunk back into his bed. Be brave, be brave, be brave.
A man, short built with blond curly hair walked in with a covered tray in his hands. He was wearing khakis pants and a blue polo shirt with a grey sweater tied around his shoulders. He looked over at Virgil and smiled happily when he saw Virgil looking back at him. “You’re awake! Good morning, Shadow!”
Virgil clenched his jaw and stared defiantly back at him. He went through the list of villains in his head and tried to match this man to one of them but no one stood out in his mind as this man. Maybe another member of the villain’s crew?
“I’m glad you’re awake,” the man sighed. “I’m so sorry that this happened. I thought that it was going to be The Prince who would be going after my crew, not you. I should’ve known better than to think that, especially since you tend to look out for that side of the city.” He kicked the door closed behind him and set the tray down on the tray.
“What’d you do to me?” Virgil asked. He cursed himself when he heard the waver in his voice, something that the man had picked up on, no doubt.
The man smiled at him reassuringly. “Just a shot that’ll keep you from moving for a while. I couldn’t have you running around my home, now could I, kiddo?”
Virgil tensed up when the man walked over to the closet and start rummaging inside. He glanced over to the tray on the chair and tried to imagine what could be under it. What was this man going to do to him?”
The man turned around with a pile of blankets, something that made Virgil blink in confusion. He watched as the man laid blanket after blanket over him, tucking him in as he went.
“My name’s Patton, by the way,” the man, Patton, chirped. “You’re gonna be here for a few days so I thought that I should tell you. It was going to get really awkward really quickly if I hadn’t. I wouldn’t want you to not know what to call me. So you can call me Patton, or whatever makes you comfortable.”
Virgil asked hesitantly, “And what does your boss call you?”
Patton paused in his task and stared at Virgil. Slowly, a smile grew on his lips and a bubbly laugh came out of him. “Oh, oh kiddo!” He shook his head in amusement. “I think you got me mistaken for someone else. I know that I don’t get out much and there aren’t many pictures taken of me so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised that you don’t know you I am.”
He leaned over and brushed Virgil’s bangs out of his eyes. “I think you’ll know the name ‘Heart’ better than Patton.”
Virgil’s breath hitched. Oh fuck. Oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck.
It wasn’t his luck that he had been caught by a bad guy. He had to be caught by the bad guy. The big one.
Heart was known by everyone. He was an Empath and one of the villains that every Hero knew to be on the lookout for. He was the villain that seemed to have a hand in everything that happened in the city. The real-life boogieman parents warned their kids about.
And now Virgil was his prisoner.
“No need to be scared, kiddo,” Patton cooed. “I know I have a bit of a reputation among Heroes but I’d never hurt a young one. You’re only fourteen, aren’t you?”
“How do you know that?” Virgil asked, fear rising. He was trembling, shaking now. Any chance of staying strong was slipping through his fingers and he wasn’t sure that he’d be able to handle it if  Patton started anything.
“I did some digging when my crew brought you in!” Patton sat on the edge of his bed and patted his limp hand. “Virgil Shae, fourteen years old, lives at the city’s Orphanage and is a freshman in High School. You got some cool powers there, kiddo, they’re really something else. You do great work with them!” He leaned over to the tray and uncovered it, placing the dome on the floor. On the tray, was a plate of orange slices and a cup of apple juice with a bendy straw bobbing inside.
Confusion replaced his fear and Virgil could only stare at the plate in bemusement. Was the juice laced with something? Was Patton just playing with him? “What are you playing at?” He asked with an edge in his voice. “When are you going to drop this act and start it?”
“It?” Patton cocked his head. “Kiddo, I think you’re confused. I’m not going to hurt you. You’re just gonna stay here for a few days while I wait for Prince to show his head.” He picked up an orange slice and popped it in his mouth. “I took another young Hero a few months ago. He was poking around one of my operations. I think his name’s Sleep. Did I hurt him?”
Virgil thought back to the story that Sleep had told him about his brief time as a prisoner of Heart. He hadn’t been hurt at all. Kept in a room with plenty of books and a Gameboy to keep him entertained. A minion would give him a plate of food every few hours and he was released after a few days. Sleep didn’t say much about it but was insistent on the fact that Heart had never touched him. Not once. He shook his head.
“See! I promise you’re safe.” Patton grinned and held an orange slice to Virgil’s lips. “Now, you haven’t eaten for a whole day now and you need to get something in your stomach. Eat.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I’m telling you, Prince,” Virgil said in a bored voice. “No matter how many times you ask, the answer won’t change. He didn’t hurt me. I was drugged up for a few hours and I wasn’t able to move much or use my powers. The muscle thing wore off though and I was fine. I was given food and wasn’t touched.” He shrugged. “Heart gave me a DS to play around with.”
“What?!” Sleep crossed his arms petulantly. He was sitting on the edge of roof him, Virgil, and The Prince was standing on. Virgil was sitting a few meters away from him and Prince was pacing between them anxiously. “That just ain’t fair, gurl. He only gave me a Gameboy.”
“Sucks to be you,” Virgil drawled. Remy flipped him the bird in reply.
Prince stepped between them. “That’s enough. Now, are you sure he didn’t hurt you, Vee? You said he knew your name?”
Virgil nodded. “Yeah, knew a lot about me. Knew where I live too.”
Prince sighed and shook his head. “That’s not good. He has both of your names now. Okay, I’m not taking any risks. I let you go back home, Rem, but now? You’re both relocating to my HQ. We need to keep you both safe. We might have to get you guys new IDs. This is such a mess.”
“He’s not that bad,” Virgil shrugged. “He seemed to like us, at least.”
Remy nodded. “Maybe he just doesn’t like you, Princey.”
Prince gasped dramatically and clasped his hands to his chest. “Everyone likes me! Heart just doesn’t appreciate my witty banter, that’s all!”
Virgil rolled his eyes and stood up. “Whatever, Princey. Now, are you gonna show us our new digs or not? I’m hungry. Patton might be nice but he didn’t give me many snacks except for orange slices.”
Remy grinned at him. “Sucks to be you. He gave me some pineapple.”
“What?! Lucky jerk!”

4, 5, 13, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22 for our new child!
Thank uu for making me think about them, ha. I’ve decided tocall them Raime (might have been watching ds playthroughs while drawing them*cough cough*), but Anathi is what their mom calls them as a term of endearment.
How much effort does your OC put in when it comes to giving presents tofriends?
None! Or a lot maybe, just by generally knowing exactly what people like, I guess there’s some effortinvolved in getting to know people so well. They don’t think much about it whenthey see something they know their friends would enjoy they just get it forthem, whatever it might be. That also makes them less of a person that wouldgive gifts on special occasions, more someone who just randomly hands yousomething that made them think of you. I don’t think they would feel the needto give a gift when it is generally expected, and would not feel embarrassed bynot doing so, they generally don’t care much for social rules and expectations.Their motto here is: Gifts should come from the heart and not on a schedule!
Does your OC have a role model or someone they idolize? How would theyreact to meeting them?
Okay now.. is it kinda upmy own ass making Gyo that person?? But here’s my reasoning: Being a soldiernow, lil’ Raime is obviously very interested in the military, so there you havethis highly decorated army general, a man that went from being sentenced todeath for murder, to selling his life to the army as a way out, to becoming aliteral war hero in his very first battle despite being a nobody without even aname except the one the army gave him, that made it to being proposed for theposition of general at an incredibly young age only through his deeds and onlythen revealing his noble background cause social norms would’ve never allowedhim to fill the position otherwise, that went to train the most specializedelite troop of the empire, that reached immortal status which is basicallyalmost unheard of??? [Who is now mostly being used as a babysitter which I’msure the other army generals find highly satisfying and amusing…] There is aHUGE legend being built up around Gyoubu some of it exaggerated but a lot of ittrue and it’s a story underdogs absolutely love cause it makes them think ofthe things they could accomplish themselves. So when Raime grows up and decidesto want to join the military for whatever reason (maybe even that legend itselfwho knows, they come from a very simple background and the only way to rise tothe top would be by their actions too so that should be inspiring) and ofcourse there’s a lot of admirable generals, all of them nobles of some kind, and to be fair so is Gyo (though the rumor is he is not really the person heclaims to be and Raime really enjoys that idea), but nobody’s quite asinspiring considering Raime’s background. So they train and train and train andgo through basic military training and then come to the point where they hit awall, where the others learn to supernaturally strengthen their abilities, asis custom for soldiers in and out of the empire to a certain degree, to enhancetheir reflexes and senses and speed and strength, Raime just.. can’t. Not likethe others at least, and these things are dangerous enough even when they suityou. Which is crushing their spirit cause how can they ever be as much of abadass as General Gyoubu now?? So you have a bunch of instructors justscratching their heads cause this kid somehow still managed to keep up with theothers to this point, where others that aren’t capable of the enhancement areusually weeded out and join provisions or whatever. But they still can’t reallyfigure out what to do with them, cause in theory they are inferior in any wayto any potential basic enemy soldier and nobody wants to be the person thatsuffers losses cause they put a weak link on some task. So they advise them tosay goodbye to their military career, at least in action, and look for anadministrative position or anything else off the battlefield. And then fuckingGeneral Gyoubu himself!! says ‘eh I’ll take them idk I’ll find something forthem to do’ which does not sound very heroic maybe but at least they can stillbe of use in a way they imagined as a child. So in their mind Gyo hasabsolutely saved them which is absurd to them cause the thought that Gyo iseven aware of their existence is wild and now he even sees some potential inthem even when nobody else does?? So when they first meet Raime very much plansto be all courteous and collected and stuff but in their mind Raime has made thisconnection between them as two people fighting the odds and ends up acting inappropriatelyfamiliar, which I think is already the way they cover up nervousness anyways,so they end up being a little too loud & close & booming, and I thinkthat is exactly what makes Gyo give them their job, cause of all the peopleunder his command they are definitely the last person someone would look at andrecognize their military training.
How well does your OC take compliments? Do they get flustered or try toturn them down?
I think that dependsentirely on the kind of compliment, and if they find it actually flattering orsomething they have never considered themselves. Compliment their martialprowess?? They’d laugh and grin and probably even agree, chest swelling withpride. If it’s something they are insecure or unsure about themselves thereaction would probably be a little more timid, but still accepting. Outwardlyat least.
How does your OC feel about their mortality? If they’re immortal, dothey see this as a curse or a blessing?
Ahh, frustrated I thinkwould describe it well? Maybe as a child they have imagined reachingimmortality, but they never really believed they could get there, so it’s notexactly like they sit there thinking ‘now I’ll never get there!!’ but more like‘I can’t even do the simplest step on the way there’ so it just reminds them ofhow hard they failed, even if they always expected to fail, they never thoughtthey wouldn’t even get to try. It is probably only the knowledge of thepossibility of prolonged life and immortality in their world, but they considerit vastly unfair to only have been given that short amount of time while othersget more. At the same time they don’t fear death very much, or rather they don’treally consider the consequence all that much, they just don’t think that farahead.
If your OC is trained in combat, what kind of opponent would they dobest against? What kind of opponent would they lose horribly to?
I think Raime’s entireadvantage in any situation is unpredictability. They do best against peoplethat are bad at reacting in the moment, people that think and plan rather thanfeel. They would do the worst against opponents that have fought them before oroften enough to know Raime’s tricks. Other people, in most cases, they don’texpect their competence, they don’t consider them a threat, they consider themdumb and believe they would fight straightforward only with strength andwithout much tactics. They underestimate that Raime is incredibly adaptable. They can look at a situation and instinctually end up with the best reaction. That makes them blend in very easily, pick up peoples habits and imitate them, charmthem, or act exactly the way people expect Raime to be to direct theirexpectations. Then they use the confusion in deviations to strike.
Your OC overhears someone talking smack about one of their friends. Dothey come to their defense or get involved in any way?
Oh yeah. Immediately andpassionately, loudly. Not exactly aggressive, but they make it very clear thatthat kind of talk is not going to be tolerated any longer while they are around. They might even drag them to apologize, if the friend is present.
Your OC’s neighbor is blasting loud music in the middle of the night. How do they react?
Electronics don’t existso it’s more like people playing instruments, having a party?? Lol Either way,if they really are annoyed by them Raime would have no problem to go over thereto shut the whole thing down, again, not aggressive but determined. Buthonestly in most cases I think they would probably just get roped up in the partymood and just join them?? They love having a good time, they mix easily withothers, unexpected party?? Hell Yeah!
How does your OC react to cheesy pick-up lines? Would they ever use one?
Uhm yes please, and yesvery much. What even is cheese? There are just pick up lines and Raime is bothvery fond of using them and fairly susceptible to hearing them. Raime isearnest and eager and honestly can’t see a fault in being cheesy, and I alsothink somehow they manage to radiate that they actually just want to say somethingnice or funny and are not trying to be skeevy, so I imagine people generallyreact in a positive or neutral way.

So, I finished V’s route and I just need to get everything out. Obviously, this will be riddled with spoilers for Seven’s route, both secret endings, V’s route.... really, the whole fucking game. This will be very long, and probably quite unorganized. Also, cursing, because this is me. You’ve been warned.
I want to start off by saying, that we really fucking owe Cheritz big time. I will never, ever complain about hourglasses again. I’ve never complained about the hourglass cost on DLC, instead saving my complaints for missed chats and such after you’ve already played a route, but damn if they aren’t easy to earn and Cheritz deserves all the fucking money. If I see anyone else complain about the 300 hourglasses needed to unlock V’s route, I will fucking fight you. Not only is the route worth so freaking much more than that, but they are stupid easy to earn and cheap enough to buy. There is so much content in this route alone that it could easily be the Casual route twice. There are 18 visual novels before the first game branch alone! I counted 68 total for the route, and that was just rushing through quickly. Days 7 and 9 have VNs for all but 2 of their chats that day. And many of these VNs were longer than the entire party of the Good Ending. There is so much content and story in this route that I am shocked and amazed at the work that Cheritz put in. And I didn’t even play it with sounds!! I went back and listened to some of the voice acting and the music and it blew my mind. Cheritz has given us so much, and this is a free game!! They deserve all the love. All of it. Forever. In fact, this shit needs it’s own post. Done. Someone needed to say it, and it will be seen better in it’s own post. Moving on.
So, I got the Good ending. I wasn’t surprised, except for the fact that I was aiming for the normal ending. Despite only, accidentally, opening two emails from guests, I still managed to invite 22 people. I mean, how? Was there even 22 possible guests?! I usually save right before a party so I can get the normal route and then load the save, open the emails, and get the good ending, but that didn’t work for me this time. I think what it might’ve been, was that I had done Seven’s route just before and never gone through the party, so when I began Another Story, I was still getting emails from guests in Seven’s route. So I will have to do a full replay to get the normal ending, which is annoying because the whole thing is just so heartbreaking. I have been spoiled on two of the bad endings though. I know there is one where you basically become Rika’s lover, and then another where V doesn’t learn to treasure himself and allows you to become his new obsession. You decide to force him to do a photoshoot of you basically in an orgy and he goes along with it because he just wants to make you happy.
I will say, I wasn’t happy with the Good Ending. Maybe Day 10 just took too much out of me and I wasn’t able to see anything good, but I wasn’t satisfied. Yes, V ventures off and learns to love himself and that is great, but there was just something about it that left me feeling very unfulfilled. Maybe his After Ending will make up for it once it’s released, but I felt that his ending was the worst for me, barely beating out Yoosung’s ending.
After playing through his route, I have to say, everything is V’s fault and happens because V is the most selfish person in the game. That isn’t completely a bad thing, but I believe it’s the truth.
V is the one who obsesses over Rika, believing it to be love. Yes, everyone makes mistakes and this is one of his, but it all stems from him being selfish and wanting to find his meaning without really trying.
All of the members could’ve been “saved” had V just seen past Rika and paid more attention to the people he surrounded himself with. (I’ll go into this in a minute)
The twins never would’ve been separated.
Saeran wouldn’t have died.
Rika might’ve been able to be saved, because she would’ve gotten proper treatment if he had pushed it on her a bit more and also not kept her condition a secret. Knowing Yoosung and imagining what kind of parents he must have, you know damn well Mrs. Kim would be in there with a wooden spoon making her get treatment, regardless if she wanted it or not, because Mama Kim is all about what you need, not what you want. #MamaKimForPresident
There wouldn’t have been a fucking bomb in an apartment! It was a residential area for Pete’s sake (who is Pete and why do we sake him? /random)! What if someone had been injured?! Seriously!!
There would be no discord within RFA, because there wouldn’t be secrets in RFA. Aside from maybe who the Choi Daddy is, because that could be important, but that is more a Choi secret and not an RFA-V-is-an-idiot secret.
Now, despite it all being his fault, I still can’t bring myself to hate V. Everyone makes mistakes, his are just greater than others. I understand why his guilt pool is overflowing and I still stand by him deserving to be saved. However, after playing his route, I feel like I understand why we weren’t given that option originally. I always felt that he could’ve been shot but survived in surgery. I still, partially, stand by the idea that he didn’t need to die, except, maybe he did. He let things get too out of hand. In the Casual/Deep stories, I really feel like he did need to die. It wasn’t fair to lose him, but things had exploded out of control so badly that I feel like his death was needed to bring a close to everything and set the world back on the right track. Having him live, would’ve caused more stress for longer, making the characters continue to suffer instead of allowing themselves to begin to mourn, which honestly might’ve been the exact reason V lied about Rika dying to begin with. So everyone could mourn who she had been while he dealt with who she became.
In Another Story, he didn’t need to die, but I also can’t get behind the idea of him ending up with the MC. It’s fine for him to have fallen for her, but I truly feel like she should’ve been with someone else. Anyone else. I think I felt so unfulfilled with the Good Ending because literally, no one else is saved. Jumin is still emotionally stunted, Jaehee is still a workaholic in a job she hates, Yoosung is playing LOLOL and seems to still be skating through university, though at least not as depressed and hopeless as before since he received some closure but not enough to set him straight, Zen is fine, but he also didn’t need saved as badly as the rest. Then there is Seven. Poor, goofy, loveable Seven, who doesn’t smile or have any real emotions in the ASGE (Another Story Good Ending) at all, who, assumingly, doesn’t know that his precious brother is dead, and is still working at a dangerous job that he hates and that only makes him hate himself.
The fate of Saeran really is the worst for me. I think out of everything, that burns my britches the most. That precious baby didn’t deserve his fate at all, and it’s all V’s fucking fault and you won’t convince me otherwise. Saeran died, Seven is left in the dark, but V is all better and loves himself and is ready to jump into a relationship after being away from everyone and everything for two years and I am supposed to be ok with that? No. I adored V, right until the moment that he said he was done with the secrets and then turned around and lied to Seven’s face about who the hacker was. That chat, right then, Day 8, “17:32 - It’s all my fault”, that was the moment I threw my hands up and said “I’m done.” Tbh, going into this route, I expected death. I expected Rika would die though. When her apartment blew up at the end, I wasn’t shocked in the least. I was when she showed up at the party the next day, but not when the apartment blew up. I didn’t expect Saeran to die though and that really killed me inside. Here was a poor, innocent little cinnamon roll, who yes, did some bad things, but not nearly as many in AS as he did in the CS&DS, since he didn’t have those extra two years of angst and the elixir to screw him up more. He was still pure and warmhearted, only truly beginning his spiral. He could’ve been saved and wouldn’t have been tainted like he was after the Secret Ends, he could’ve returned to the Saeran he was before. He could’ve stayed Ray instead of Unknown. When I was spoiled early on in AS, my dislike for Rika grew into absolute hate, until I actually saw the end of Day 10 for myself. Contrary to my belief, Rika doesn’t order him to stay behind and die in Mint Eye as his “mission”, she had told him to escape. He chose not to, because he had “nowhere else to go”, something that could’ve been avoided if V had just told the fucking truth and allowed Seven to contact Jumin sooner so they could drag him out of ME kicking and screaming if they needed to, so he could get his brother into detox and therapy and spend the rest of his days helping him to find happiness. Saeran’s death was completely needless, which is probably why it is so heartbreaking and I can’t get over it. His death alone took AS’s enjoyment level from a 3 to a zero. The story is a 5 star all around, but enjoyment level... unless you are a masochist, yeah, it’s pretty low... I couldn’t even cry at that point. I was just, numb. V should’ve told Seven. He should’ve. I will never forgive him for not doing so.
And on that note, why was this a thing to begin with? I won’t ask for a Saeran route, I know that we were blessed by the great Cheritz Gods to be given a V route as it was, but I would hope for another Secret Ending, or something, somewhere, even a simple VN memory... or a series of VNs for Saeran as he is looking back at things. Anything. I need to know why. Why were the twins separated to begin with? Why did that even make sense? Yes, Choi Daddy is a big bad who would want them dead so they can’t make him look bad because appearances are everything, but why did they have to be apart? Seven joined the agency to hide his identity. Alright, that makes sense, but who was hiding Saeran’s? He didn’t join the agency. The agency didn’t even know he existed. Yes, V and Rika got Saeran out, as promised, and he was clearly happy for a time, but then what? Where did he go? What did he do? And why didn’t V know, or expect for that matter, that Rika would pull him into ME with her? He very clearly didn’t know Saeran was there until he ran into him, and such a thing seemed to still be the case, that he had only learned he was there recently, in the other routes. Why were they drawn apart and what happened to Saeran during the time V stopped giving a shit until he was drawn into ME? It’s the only thing in this game that I feel desperate for an answer for. Anything else is meaningless. But the fate of Saeran matters to me. It might be my Seven-bias speaking in that, but it still remains so.
The lack of resolution really bothers me. No one else was saved. V’s, and eventually MC’s, friendship could’ve been enough, but it didn’t happen that way. V went off on a trip of self discovery and left everyone alone to their own devices to hope they get better, or not, he doesn’t care. Even coming back in the ASGE, he finally treasures himself, but even his words was off-putting. “I want you to love me, because I love you like I love myself.” I might still be mourning Saeran, but it just felt... wrong. It felt unhealthy. Sure, V was healthy, but after 2 years... was anyone else? Zen, really didn’t need saved. He lacks confidence, but true friendship and care could’ve handled that. Yes, he needed to reconnect with his family, but even that could’ve been handled through friendship. Jaehee needed encouragement, to be told she was better than she was allowing herself to be. MC could’ve been her bestie, regardless who she ended up with, and still given her that push to the coffee shop that she deserves. It wouldn’t have happened as quickly as it did in her route, but it still could’ve happened. Yoosung... he got some resolution. I feel like his (outside of the Choi Boys) was the most tragic of plots. I wanted to strangle him through AS, he just... ugh!! He got on my nerves so hard. It was so frustrating to watch. I understand the boy was in pain and hardcore denial, and he got that closure when he saw how out there Rika was, but he doesn’t appear to ever get help. The whole group really felt like empty shells in the ASGE. Only V felt like he had any life in him at all. Even Zen felt like he was forcing himself. Jumin, he could’ve been better also. He didn’t need MC, he just needed V. V was so selfish and narrow minded, that he couldn’t even tell that his closest friend was in pain and in need of help. He couldn’t see that Jumin had feelings for Rika, past what was appropriate for his BFF’s girl. Had he seen, knowing Jumin as well as he flattered himself, he could’ve done more for his friend to help him be around women. And having MC around, even without a romantic attachment, would’ve been good for him to become more comfortable and trusting around women, especially if she were to never work with him. Seven, wouldn’t have needed saved if V had never tried to pull the Choi Boys apart to begin with, but I bet if he had said something after AS, Jumin would’ve pulled all the fucking strings to help him out of the agency and to keep out of Daddy Choi’s sight so he and Saeran could live in peace. But all V could see was himself, and he ruined six beautiful people and contributed to the faster decline of a seventh. And Seven not knowing about Saeran... I can’t live with that. I can’t love, trust, or even respect V with that. At the end, it really felt like V was the only one with any kind of a happy ending. Yes, it was his route, but even in Seven’s route (which I consider to be the true end), everyone was better off aside from maybe Jumin. The whole route just contributed more and more to me seeing nothing more in V than his abhorrent selfishness.
I really expected to hate Rika through this, but in the end, she was still a victim. She isn’t blameless, Gods no, she deserves serious judgement and I will forever be convinced that she shouldn’t be allowed to get off on a plea of insanity. Her disease didn’t make her do all the wrong she did, it just twisted her moral compass away from the rest of society and it’s laws. I do, however, feel more pity for her now. I can’t blame her for things. Before AS, I blamed her for 90% of what had happened, but now, I can see that it wasn’t as much her fault. V coddled her and placed her on such a high pedestal that she couldn’t get down on her own and couldn’t see past his light. She couldn’t ask for help because she was so suffocated by his obsessive love that she was in fight-or-flight mode and just wanted to run. If V hadn’t been so obsessive, and even controlling, then she could’ve gotten help before it was too late to turn back. But he was so determined to by her messiah or die a martyr, that he foolishly took things in the wrong direction and became a controlling boyfriend. He controlled her treatment, her death, her darkness. He controlled everything about her, trying to keep her from doing anything without his hand, because he was supposed to save her. He was supposed to make her his greatest masterpiece and no one was allowed to break his control to change that. So in the end, I went from loving V to barely liking him. Sure, you could push it back on V’s parents, namely his father, for him becoming the way he did. But at the end of the day, everything really does stem from V’s selfishness allowing everything to be his fault. Everyone is responsible for their own actions, but his influence was the catalyst to everything wrong that happened.
TL;DR: V deserved to be saved, he really did, but Rika was much more of a victim than the rest of the game leads you to believe. He never should’ve been with MC, because he really doesn’t deserve her past friendship, and I will never forgive him for lying to Seven and preventing us from making a harder push to save our precious Saeran.
