THINGVRAI Benry grub plush - GIANT EDITION

all because my bestie said 'hey what if grubrey plush but blahaj size.'

made mostly of minky, with his eyes being gold spandex, his claws and antennae mochi minky, and his teeth felt. stuffed with (a lot of) polyfill and plastic pellets. he's about 33 inches long from snout to butt, and weighs nearly 6 pounds!

his mouth doesn't open any farther than this, and he doesn't have a belly pouch like my (comparatively) smaller grubrey plush.

hi i recent-ish-ly refined my grub plush pattern, and made me a new grub to cuddle, as my old one with the opening mouth is starting to look a bit warn out from all the hugs, oops.

this time he's made of mochi minky (which won't get worn out looking as badly as the higher pile regular minky), doesn't have the opening mouth and is also stuffed with this 'cluster stuffing' i found that makes him SO nice and squishy, omg. very nice 2 hug.

(also i labeled this as v3 but technically i'd made another grub first with this new refined pattern, but with sleepy eyes, buuuut i forgot to take photos of him before shipping off to a friend who bought him. whoopsy doopsy.)

THINGVRAI “Benry-Thing” v2

because i wasn’t satisfied with some of the details on the first version. made him a bit more monstery this time, and also didn’t forget his vest and gun holster;;; i imagine this is right after a soldier or something attacked him, damaging his head and left shoulder area, followed by thingrey regrowing those damaged parts to retaliate. and also scare the shit out of the guy that shot him. probably a lot of ‘time to be mean’ blue-to-green pouring out of his mouth too, heh. gave him a random vortigaunt eye since he’s probably assimilated a couple of xen critters while they’re all dealing with the rescas. those big claw limbs were probably made using headcrab dna, too. (i didn’t think about it until after having already started painting, but i should’ve made his left eye socket full of a bunch of little eyeballs, like a houndeye’s. that wouldda been cool/freaky. ah well) made with sculpey and cosclay, painted with acrylics and sealed with sculpey glaze and mod podge.

updated that grubrey design evolution picture thingy. his eyes got set farther apart, his antennae got thicker, and he in general got chubbier. chubby grubby. i also got better at colouring him, hah.

so i turned thingrey into a pokemon ‘cause why not. i have no idea what his first and final stages would be called, but i’ve come up with the name “Malignamute” for his middle stage. species names are “the assimilation pokemon,” “the false dog pokemon,” and “the imposter pokemon.” his final stage has a signature ability that functions p much the same as zorua/zoroark’s “illusion” ability, coming into battle disguised as another pokemon on the team until he takes damage. first two stages probably have something like infiltrator and/or unnerve. or maybe opportunist? only moves in his first stage’s movepool are transform, screech, bugbite, and absorb. probably something in his pokedex entry about hoarding other pokemon materials for their genetic information. final stage’s dex is like “its mimicry was at first thought to be for nefarious purposes, but further research revealed this alien pokemon just seeks companionship, and takes on others’ forms to seem less intimidating.” and maybe that’s also why his middle stage is specifically mimicking dog pokemon, because dogs are ‘man’s best friend’ and hey! he wants to be someone’s best friend! he just wants to hang out and have fun with people, man

for those wondering about the sudden stop in hollow knight skin work, this is why. inspired by squishmallows and those microbead filled pokemon plushes. he’s 13 inches long from snout to butt, made of mochi minky and metallic spandex, stuffed with polyfill, and has buckram in his antennae to keep their shape. took about a week to make. he is VERY squishy.
