phenomenal episode overall. kendall demanding clouds because he saw them in berlin and trying not to cry when the stagehands cannot in fact build berlin in a day. matsson walking barefoot across a tarmac. shiv and tom biting deep into each other's forearms to see who can withstand the pain the longest in public at a fancy business event. roman firing a random woman because she didn't seem to think he lived up to his dad. roman firing gerri because she doesn't think he lives up to his dad. roman regretting firing gerri immediately and asking ken to undo it but ken is overjoyed and says it's what dad would do so roman smiles and says okay. kendall floating faceup in a body of water that he dove into of his own accord. shiv booking an empty conference room to cry in when no one's around. gerri saying fuck. karl serving cunt. roman genuinely feeling bad about not including shiv, apologizing to her, and asking if they could all hug. kendall announcing a bizarre dystopian real estate project that's framed as 'like a cruise but on land and forever and by forever we mean forever we're talking cryogenics.' tomshiv playing straight chicken all episode. roman listening to an edit of his father insulting him over and over on the ride home. everything i ever could've wanted

thinking about connor in prague saying "dad's theory was you got two fighting dogs, you send the weak one away, you punish the weak one." in relation to this episode, and the way the siblings view abuse inside their own family.
shiv and kendall and their belief that connor and roman are the weak dogs that got the brunt of logan's worst behavior, because abuse is reserved for the kids who can't behave - the ones who aren't smart and mature enough to make it in the world. abuse evokes pity, because abuse is what happens when you expect too much from people who obviously aren't capable of more.
and then they go forward in life, believing that they're just naturally more intelligent and more capable than connor and roman, as if being raised seeing what happens to you if you aren't a perfect child wasn't the entire point of the "punish the weak dog" mentality that logan instilled in them. the looming threat implied behind any praise they do receive that tacitly tells them "you're not like roman and connor" because everyone knows what happens to roman and connor.
the absolute height of the rich capitalist mindset. "we're succeeding because of our own merit, and other people fail because they don't have what it takes" when in reality they're succeeding because of arbitrary rules made up by someone who knows that infighting makes meaner dogs.

funniest thing about stewy is that he’s a fucking anomaly in the roys social circle because not a single person in that family has any fucking friends. they genuinely only fraternize with family or waystar employees and then here comes stewy. the prodigal sons third-oldest friend best friend childhood friend. and guess what. he’s here to cause problems on purpose.

you know in all the bells say when shiv tells roman that logan would never pick roman because he thinks there's something wrong with him and it's one of the few times she says it matter of fact, not as a jab or insult??? I think about that all the time. because it's like...she can recognise Logan's Something Wrong attitude. it's the same attitude Logan treats Shiv with for being a woman. Roman and Shiv's invisible bond is not just as the 2 youngest, or their joint anxiety of Kendall, but the 2 who's Wrongness™ is not correctable, and an inalienable inherent failure of their genders in Logan's eyes. Roman's a man, which of course gives him privilege over Shiv, but he's "weak" "wrong" etc in a way a man shouldn't be according to Logan. So even his male privilege is conditional on his ability to hide that supposed Wrongness, but he can't because it's inherent. Meanwhile, Shiv can denigrate women, be ruthless in every way a man would be expected to, but these attempts to circumvent her gender and put her ahead of her brothers only make her less valuable as a woman to Logan. She is doomed whether she acts more like the men or around her or whether she adheres to what's expected of her as a woman. She fails either way and so does Roman. So, most of the time the best they can do is hold that failure over one another, fighting over who's virtue is greater, until they realise they've always been standing side by side in the gallows and awaiting the same noose.
