a/n: HDTVTVRBEHS IM SO SORRY I COMPLETELY ABANDONED THAT STORY OH MY GOD im gonna be honest with you guys. its not good. i forgot the original ending i wanted.

prologue part 1

“Boss?” You heard a henchman wake you from your slumber in your own room. Opening your eyes to complete darkness, you tried not to lose your temper.

“What the hell do you want?” You asked with a huff.

“Right, uh, you told us to tell you when we had a location on those ‘Birds of Prey’ or whatever...we do.” You ripped your sleeping mask off of your eyes and bolted out from under the satin covers.

“You do?! Where? Tell me now!” You shouted while scrambling across the room to get yourself ready for this spur of the moment fight. The blue robe you wore dropped to the ground just before you pulled on a pair of pants and continued. You had to look good for this special occasion.

“A old factory, I guess. ACE or some shit.” He shrugged, looking away respectfully as you got your clothes on.

“ACE Chemicals?” You pulled the shoulder holster over your arms and covered it with a jacket, waiting for the oaf to confirm.

“Uh, I think so.” He was basically useless, an alarm clock at best. You swiped your weapons from your nightstand and pushed past him, ready to end a few lives. It was an eye for two eyes kind of situation.

“Should I call for backup?” He followed behind you as weapons were shoved into all sorts of pockets on your person, so you did what any reasonable person would do and shot him in the foot, the sweet sound of a yelp calmed your shaky nerves.

“Did I say we should call for backup? No, so don’t ask.” He dropped to the floor as he clutched onto his injured appendage, but you just kept on walking. This was personal, you were the only one who could avenge Dad and Papa Vic.

Now you were jogging to the car and stepping on the gas the moment you sat in the driver’s seat. There was no time to lose, no time at all. It was a bit relaxing to hear Britney Spears on the radio as you cut off traffic over and over again. There was a moment of contemplation when someone honked their horn at you, and I mean contemplation of murder. You were going to murder the person honking at you.

But you didn’t have time to stop. Who knows how long those little Birds would be at the factory and how long it’d be until you caught them again. So upon arrival, you ran to the trunk and pulled out the Thompson, your lovely little submachine gun.

With that rested over your shoulder, you left the car running and walked straight into the factory. There was no telling what they were doing here, but damn all the dangers of walking into a severely damaged chemical plant. You wanted your revenge, even if you didn’t make it out of here alive. Ideally, yes, you’d live the rest of your days sleeping peacefully knowing that you put your parent’s killers down, but as long as they were gone, you’d be fine with whatever may happen.

“This is officially the final step to my breakup! This is where I became ‘Harley Quinn.’” You heard a familiar annoying voice echo through the abandoned building.

“This place is starting to creep me out...” Another voice muttered, the voice of a singer. Someone who you and your family trusted until she stabbed you each in the back. God, your blood was boiling just thinking about having relations to these cruel women. But luckily for you, you were about to return a favor.

There’s one little detail I left out, you have been carrying a single hand grenade on your person since you learned about your Dad’s cause of death. It was the perfect revenge. In your head, at least. You yanked the ring with your teeth, you just had to give it a try! But grenades don’t work like that, that’s just a trope in media to made it look badass, as if a giant explosion isn’t badass enough. So you pulled the ring with all your might, this time with your fingers, and popped the pin out. The girls had yet to notice your presence, but that was about to change.

Timing was everything here: you had to give yourself time to escape, but you couldn’t give them time to escape. Maybe ypu should have thought this through before pulling the pin.

Fuck it, toss! The Birds were standing on the grates of the second floor, so there was an alerting clink when the bomb landed.

“Oh, shit!” Harley screamed and bolted. “Run for it!” As they scattered in all different directions, you spectated in excitement. The one that killed Papa Vic, the Crossbow Killer, hopped off the platform and landed on the concrete rubble below, then the sudden force of the explosion pushed them every which way. You, too, actually.

“What the hell? Who’s here?!” Canary cried as she checked her face for cuts, finding blood on her hands. Each of you was covered in dirt and grime, blood and bruises.

“Everyone okay?” The cop asked her company and heard a bundle of groans from the pack, could be worse?

Oh, it could be worse...especially once you revealed yourself to the little ragtags.

“Hi there!” You introduced. “A few of you remember me, huh? Hey, Harley, Miss Lance.” You waved with a pistol in your hand and Papa Vic’s sharp gift in the other.

“‘Course you’re here for revenge.” Harley blew a raspberry as she crossed her arms, but the rest of the group just stared at you. “You’re dads started it.”

“Wait, they were together?” Cass asked the wrong question at the wrong time.

“Shut up, kid. Love you.” Harley pushed the child out of the way and stepped forward. “So ya wanna get back at us, huh? Got it all planned out? Ya don’t have the discipline, sweetie. That’s what did your dads in.”

“Quiet!” You shouted with a haunting similarity to Roman. “Listen, I don’t need to kill all of you. I’d really love to, but I won’t.” You explained as you paced around shifting bricks. “Harley and the crossbow girl are who I really want. I thought about offing the songbird for being a narc, but if she flies away now, maybe I’ll let her go.”

“My name is Huntress.” The girl in distasteful purple makeup growled, you just had to laugh.

“I don’t give a shit what your name is, I just care how you die.” You held the blade out for her to see. “Stab my Papa through the neck, I do the same. It’s only fitting I use the knife he gave me to do it. Poetic, huh?”

“I wasn’t even the one that killed him! Technically it was the kid, tell ‘em!” Said the Joker’s ex-lady.

“Wow, thanks for throwing me under the bus!” Cassandra threw her hands up and you pointed your bedazzled gun at Harley’s chest. “Shit, look out!”

“It might not be a grenade, but it still goes ‘boom.’” You slowly tightened your finger around the trigger, but ducked and missed when a brick came flying towards you, courtesy of Little Miss Trouble.

“Fuck’s sake!” You screamed and came running towards the other target, who flipped you over her back, causing you to land on yours. I can’t even describe the noise you made.

“I had been planning to kill Victor Zsasz for years, alright? I had every right to do so.” She went off for the team to witness. “He murdered my entire family in front of me when I was a child! Do you know what it’s like to be an orphan?!” Huntress’s voice was sharp and rough, there was a slim chance that she’d be taking any more shit today.

“Yes, you idiot.” You glared up at her while she planted a foot on either side of your torso, aiming an arrow at your head. “I was adopted by Roman and Vic after they found me on the street.”

“That doesn’t change the fact that they took everything from me.” The others simply watched the show, how could they not? Helena’s stone-cold voice was chilling.

“And what do you think you did to me?” You asked with and unsteady tone. “I’m a goddamn orphan again!” You caught the back of her knee and escaped her reach for just a moment as you leveled the field by drawing your weapon once more. “I had it good before you came in and ruined it all.”

“Your fathers were the scum of the Earth, the world’s better without them.” It was a wonder how none of her team had hopped in yet, but it worked out for you. “If you thought they deserved to live, you would’ve shot me by now.”

“She’s got a point, y/n/n.” Harley chimed in, throwing you right off your rhythm. Leaving it to the psychiatrist to evaluate you during something like this. “Remember our nights at the club? I saw how controlling Romy was over ya. An’ how Vicky kept secrets. An’ how they put ya into some really uncomfortable situations an’ whatnot. I dunno what when on behind closed doors, but...admit it, y/n, it wasn’t as perfect as ya make it out ta be.”

“They did their best.” You watched each face turn to pity you, it broke you all over again. “Fuck! Fuck you guys!” You dropped your guard and pouted at how easily manipulated you could be.

“That’s more like it.” Renee chuckled as Dinah walked past her. Dinah had seen just as much as Harley, that’s why she went right up to you and took you in her arms.

“You should stick with us for a while. I promise we aren’t that bad.”

Chapter 9.) Still

Daryl and I run from some of the dead and out through some bushes, and once we get outside into a clearing I notice a car. I motion to the trunk; as I rush to the front to pop the trunk. Daryl gets the idea, and as thunder rumbles overhead helps me get in, he hops in after me and then closes the trunk amd ties it with an old red oil rag.

The thunder rumbles overhead as the dead start pounding and shaking the car.

I feel my chest clenching painfully, and try to breathe through any on coming panic attacks. Daryl notices, and uses one arm to pull me up so that I'm in between his legs, basically laying ontop of the poor man, my back to his chest. He holds his crossbow in one hand and me with the other. I clench my eyes shut and we stay like this all night.

I guess I fell asleep, because I wake up to him moving and notice the trunk filled with sunlight.

But the car isn't moving, and I can't hear any growls around us, so I undo the trunks hood, and we both climb out, I immediately stretch out, my whole body sore from the confined sleeping quarters we'd shared. Daryl comes out after me; and we both start rummaging through the car. Grabbing the things we might need. We do this all in silence. Not a word has been spoken between us since our spat.

As we walk, he begins hunting for food whilst I build us a fire. Then together we make clankers for if the dead get too close to our camp.

Daryl skins the rattle snake he catches; and I cook it on the fire.

Once it's finished, we sit down to eat, and it's honestly not too bad. But I'm getting restless, I need to find my boy. Dead or alive, I need to know. "We need to go," I say.

He ignores me, just like before. "Seriously, I need to find Mason. I have to." He continues ignoring me, so again, I get up and leave by myself.

I walk right towards a small heard of the dead. Of course, just my luck. I throw a stone to try to draw them in the opposite direction, and it works.

Or at least I think it did, until a twig snaps behind me. I spin around, knife at the ready, only to find Daryl. I breathe a sigh of relief, before he turns around and starts walking back to camp.

I think we're going back to pack up, but he sits back down.

"Fuck you!" I snap, turning back around to leave once more, why I even followed this jackass to begin with, I'll never know.

I hear him move, saying, "Hey, you had your fun!" and he grabs my arm, so I pull it out of his grasp.

"I'm not looking for fun, you asshole! All I want is to find my son. To see if he made it and you're just so damn content playing camp; but I'm not! We can't be the only one's who survived, so fuck you! Fuck your negative attitude; I'm going to find my damn son; enjoy your camping trip," I turn on my heels and storm away, pissed off as hell. What a fucking jerk! It isn't long before I hear him come trudging after me. I almost hate myself for feeling relieved.

We make it out of the trees again to see a big golf course, "Someone from the prison could be holding up in there." I point out.

I make my way to the building.

Once we hit the entrance, I hear thunder rumbling over head again and I cringe, I hate thunder storms.

It takes some jimmying but eventually Daryl is able to unlock the locked entrance door.

When we walk in we notice someone had made a mess of the place, and there are dead hanging from the ceilings. People who'd tried to commit suicide. More dead people are laying around the floor.

I notice Daryl shoving money and jewels into a bag, and I watch on confused until we hear the dead pounding on the entrance doors trying to get in.

"Come on," Daryl says as we rush throuth another set of doors that he slams behind us.

I start looking around for anything that we could possibly need later on, flashlights that Daryl had found in the first room turned on as we both search the country club. There has to be food somewhere, I think before I feel one of the dead grab me from behind, the guy dressed as a barkeep. I struggle to take out my knife, and stab the guy right threw the top of his head; ceasing his movements. I turn to see Daryl staring at me.

He shakes his head and just walks the other way without a word.

There's a point where we have to army crawl our way under a knocked over dresser of some sorts, and then we end up in a clothing store. One of the dead was placed on a manican with a sign that reads RICH BITCH on it.

We go through yet another door and just as we pass an old antique grandfather clock; it goes off, spooking us both.

"Okay," Daryl says, and then we turn around to walk right into a group of the dead, these ones moving. We get further into a larger room and Daryl and I immediately go back to back as we start killing the dead, once I put my knife through another one of their heads I turn to see Daryl hitting one over and over again with a golf club until his skull basically explodes.

I notice a bar in front of us, and all of a sudden some alcohol sounds fucking fantastic.

I turn to look at Daryl, "I don't know about you, but I'm going to get a drink."

I see a look of disaproval on his face, but choose to ignore it.

I walk over to the bar to see almost everything is gone or broken.

One bottle ramains, but I'm distracted as glass shatters behind me, Daryl is breaking the glass to a picture frame and then he takes the picture.

"You have your drink yet?" He asks, meeting my eyes.

"I guess? It's no bottle of Jack Daniels, but ... I guess Pink Schnapps will do the trick seeing as I haven't drank anything in over a year."

I uncap the bottle as Daryl starts throwing darts at what I'm assuming is the pictures of the heads of the Club.

I hope he's distracted because I feel the weight of the last few days weighing down on me. Tears start coming to my eyes heavily, and somehow I'm unable to blink them back.

I close my eyes, allowing myself a short cry just while Daryl's distracted only to hear the sound of glass shattering once more. I open my eyes to see the bottle of Pink schnapps broken on the floor.

"Ain't gonna have your first drink in years be no damned peach schnapps." He snaps before approaching an exit door, "Come on." So I follow him once again. A more managable task on our hands. Find us a drink.

Back in the woods we trudge, and we approach a house not unlike the one I grew up in, and my stomach drops.

"Found this place with Michonne," Daryl says.

I follow him, as we approach the house, my heart racing in my chest. Memories of my childhood racing back to me. Memories I've kept at bay for years.

He goes into the shed behind the house and grabs what could only be moonshine from inside, handing it to me. We go inside the house and he pours me a shot in a milk glass.

I shrug and drink it down in one gulp, feeling the burn of the strong alcohol rush down my throat.

I grab the jar of moonshine to pour Daryl a drink only to hear, "Slow down."

I roll my eyes, "I'm not an idiot, this one's for you."

"No, I'm good."

I eye him for a second before asking, "You sure?"

"Someone's got to keep watch." Is his response.

"Okay, suit yourself I guess." I mumble as I pour myself another drink.

"Just drink lots of water," he orders, gruffly.

I bite my lip, and raise an eyebrow at him, "Yes, Sir." I say, before chugging this glass as well.

I look around the house, shaking my head.

"What?" Daryl asks, and I shrug.

"I grew up in a place just like this," I mutter, not making eye contact with him.

"Bullshit," he says. "I may not come from much, but I recognized your hushand. He comes from a whole family of rich folk."

I nod, "He did. I didn't. My dad was a self medicating Schizophrenic who was obsessed with teaching my siblings and I how to survive the Zombie Apocolypse. Funny that he drank himself to death before he could prove himself right; that this really is how the world ends."

"Siblings, how many?" Daryl asks, as he grabs a board to start boarding up the windows, I start doing the same.

"Fourteen, I had four older sisters, nine older brothers and my baby brother. When I married Tyler they all stopped talking to me, said I was betraying the family."

We both hear the telltale growling signalling to us that one of the dead is near by. I step forward, but he raises his hand to stop me, "It's just one of 'em."

I grab my bow, but he walks over and takes it out of my hand, gently. "If he keeps making too much noise we'll kill 'im."

I nod, and notice how close we are in proximity, so I step back, "Now that we're all boarded up for the night, you may as well drink with me."

"Hell, might as well," he agrees, and I smile and hand him a jar of the moonshine.

He sits down in the grungy chair and we do a mock cheers as I sit across from him on the floor, "Home, sweet home," he says.

Later in the night we sit on the floor, our shoulders touching as we sit and talk.

"Did you have any siblings?" I ask him, before taking a drink.

"I had a brother, Merle." I nod a little. "If you came from the likes of this, how'd you meet Tyler, then?"

"After my mom died, I ran off. It was about a year of living on the streets when I was begging for money, or food, or..." I shake my head. "anything really; when Tyler's mom walked past. She offered to buy me dinner and some different clothing. I let her, I was desperate just to be out of the cold. She then bought me clothes, and took me to dinner with her family; Tyler, his sister and father. I don't know how it happened, coming from such different backgrounds and all, but we fell in love. We had three beautiful kids, and," I blink back some more tears, "And I got to live a fairytale for a few short years before the world turned upside down."

We sit in silence for a while before he asks how old I am. I look down at my jar of Moonshine, "Twenty Seven, you?"

He snorts, "I'm gonna take a piss." He stands up and walks to a corner of the house, dropping his jar so it shatters on the floor, causing me to jump.

"Daryl, be careful; we have to be quiet." I chastise.

"Can't hear you!" He yells, "I'm taking a piss!"

"Daryl, please, don't yell."

"What, are you my chaperone now?" He yells, as he starts peeing in the corner.

I look away shaking my head. I know his kind of drunk all too well. But this time, if he were to get physical, I'm not too sure I'd be able to get away like I used to be able to get away from my dad.

Daryl zips his zipper back up and is kicking things on his way back over to me, the dead guy outside starts groaning louder.

"Sounds like our friend out there is tryin' to call all of his buddies."

"Be quiet," I beg, standing up as well now.

Daryl turns away from me to grab his crossbow, "Hey, you ever shot a crossbow before?" I shake my head no. "I'm gonna teach you right now." He comes towards me and grabs my wrist tightly in his, "Come on." He kicks the door open, "It's gonna be fun."

I stay quiet as he pulls me down the stairs and over to the growling dead man.

"Dumbass." He seethes through his teeth, dropping my hand. "Come here, dumbass." He shoots an arrow at the guys shoulder, pinning him to the tree next to the house.

"You want to shoot?" He asks, gruffly.

"Not rea-"

"Oh, it's easy," he grunts, grabbing my shoulder with one arm and pulling me to him, the crossbow still in his other hand. "Come here." He puts the crossbow on my shoulder, "Right corner." He says, taking the shot and hitting flawlessly. He moves me away to reload, and I'm starting to get fed up with him as he repeats, "Come here." And pulls me close again, though this time his arm is practically around my neck. "Eight ball." He shoots directly in the middle.

He pushes me away again, and starts walking towards the dead man, "Come here, Anne. Let's pull these out. Get a little more target practice."

I shake my head, pull my knife out of my pocket, dodge around Daryl; and and stab the poor dead guy right in the head, pull out my knife and round on Daryl.

"What the hell you do that for? I was having fun."

"No! You're being an asshole!" i argue. "What if that was someone we knew from back at the priso-"

"Don't. That ain't remotely the same."

"He was alive once, Daryl. Probably had a family at one point. So it's exactly the same!"

"What do you want from me, girl, huh?" He gets in my face, so I can feel his every labored breath across my face.

"I want you to see what's going on around you! To stop being a dick head and realize that I have a son out there! That you have family out there! But you don't even give a damn about that, do you?"

"Is that what you think?"

"I don't think shit, I know it."

"You don't know nothing."

"I know you're too scared to even think about the possiblity of someone you care about still being alive!"

"I ain't afraid of nothin'." I ignore him, too riled up to give his response the time of day.

"I know that you've let yourself come to some fucked up conclusion that if you don't care about anyone, then you'll be fine. But that's not how the world works; Daryl! You end up caring about people, and they might end up dying, but you can still hope that they don't! Or that the ones you already care about didn't die!"

"How's what I'm doin' any different from you? Huh? Your whole families probably dead and your sat here drinking Moonshine and tellin' a stranger your life story."

"Fuck you, your not even listening!"

"No, you not listenin'! Everyone we know is dead!"

"You don't know that for sure!"

"Might as well be, 'cause you ain't never gonna see 'em again. Carol. You ain't never gonna see Mason again."

"Shut up!"

He turns around, "No! The Governor rolled right up to our gates." His voice breaks, taking me by surprise. "Maybe if I wouldn't have stopped lookin'. Maybe 'cause I gave up. If I'd have listened to you and Carl about shootin' before Hershel died! That's on me!"

"Daryl," I whisper.

"No, And your son. Maybe- maybe if I was faster in gettin' those meds."

I pull him around and hug him, as he starts crying, and then grips onto the back and side of my shirt, holding tightly as he sobs into my shoulder, bending down to do so.

Later that night we sit on the porch of the house, our legs brushing each other, I'm drunk enough I basically don't even care about what had happened earlier.

"Fuck, wish this is how I felt all the time."

Daryl looks at me and hums, "You're lucky you're a happy drunk."

"Yeah, some people make real asses of themselves when their drinking," I tease.

"Yeah, I'm a dick," he uses his knife to shank the wooden post holding the porch up and then looks at me, a smirk on his face, "when I'm drunk."

I push his knee playfully and he grins before his face turns serious, "Merle had this dealer. This janky little white guy. A tweaker." Daryl itches his arm, "One day we were over at his house watching TV. Wasn't even noon yet and we were all wasted. Merle was high. We were watching this show and Merle was talking all this dumb stuff about it. And he wouldn't let up. Merle never could. Turns out it was the tweaker's kids' favorite show. And he never sees his kids, so he felt guilty about it or something. So he punches Merle in the face. So I started hitting the tweaker," he moves his hands in a punching potion, "like, hard, hard as I can. Then he pulls a gun, sticks it right here," he touches the side of his forehead. "He says, 'I'm gonna kill you, bitch.' So Merle pulls his gun on him. Everyone's yelling. I'm yelling. I thought I was dead. Over a dumb cartoon about a talkin' dog."

I watch him closely, "What happened then?"

"The tweaker punched me in the gut. I puked. They both started laughing and forgot all about it."

"But you didn't. Because that isn't something you forget about."

"You want to know what I was before all this?" I nod, "You were right. I was just drifting around with Merle... doin' whatever he said we were gonna be doin' that day. I was nobody. Nothin'. Some redneck asshole and an even bigger asshole for a brother."

"What happened to him?" I ask, softly.

"We were together for some of this. Then he got himself handcuffed to a roof by Rick, he cut off his own hand before we could get to 'im. Then he joined the Governor. He's dead now."

"Do you miss him?" When he doesn't answer I fall into my own childhood story.

"My dad used to have us kids learn every bit of fighting he could get us into for free. I learned how to walk on broken glass, nails, anything that could hurt your feet. I could do it without cutting myself by the age of eight. Two of my siblings were out of the house by the time I came around, but there was still thirteen hungry mouths to feed, and as soon as we'd hit twelve we started working to pay rent and buy our own food. But we kept up on the Zombie Bootcamp; that's what my brother Dave used to call it. I could hunt, skin and cook a deer when I was only ten. I was raised to live in this world, yet..." I sigh, "I thought somehow Tyler and I'd find a safe place? Raise our kids, maybe they'd fall in love themselves and have their own kids... I'd become a grandma someday, Tyler would be old and grey." I shake my head, "Dumb right?"

"That's how it was supposed to be."

"Out of all my siblings, I shouldn't have been the one to live."

"You did."

"I don't have the heart for this world. You somehow manage alright, and I wish I could."

"I'm just used to it, things bein' ugly. Growing up in a place like this, you get it."

"We got away from it."

"I didn't."

I shake my head at him, "You did."

"Maybe you got to keep on reminding me sometimes."

"I can do that," I smile, and we lock eyes for a moment, my heart skips a beat, and I look away, feeling myself blush. "But I don't think I'll be around too much longer, so start remembering it quick."

"Stop."

"Serious, if I can't find my son," I shake my head, "I'll have nothing left to live for."

"You ain't a happy drunk at all," he comments.

"You're right, I'm usually a flirtatious drunk."

"Right, then what's this?"

"A bad buzz," I tease, before becoming serious again. "Don't let your past define you, Daryl. If you stick your head in a place like this, it'll eat you up inside. You have to try and forget it, your childhood traumas."

"What if you can't?"

"You keep blaming yourself for things you didn't do. You let guilt and anger build up until it kills you. So not letting go isn't an option."

"I think I'd prefer the flirty drunk."

I smirk, "Nah, emotional drunks can be fun too."

"Yeah, fun." He says, sarcastically.

"Hey," I say, and go to push his leg again, but he takes my hand right before I can.

We stay like this for a few minutes, eyes locked, his hand holding onto mine before he breaks the silence while letting go of my hand, "We should go inside."

"Or we could burn the place to the ground; be all symbolic and such."

He stands up and takes my jar; he then stops in the doorway, "We're gonna need more booze." We exchange smiles.

We go inside and ransack the place, throwing alcohol on every single object there is. When we get outside, he offers me the matches, "You wanna?"

I shake my head, "I've burnt my past. It's your turn."

He nods, and lights the match, throwing it at the building which immediately bursts to flame.

Kingdom- Chapter Seven

Gajeel has had the dream about dying for the blue haired girl for as long as he can remember. Which is weird, since he’s never met anyone with blue hair in his life.

Levy has always loved myths and legends. So much so, in fact, that she was currently getting her master’s in mythological studies.

What neither of them realized was that they were living a legend all their own.

Hey y’all! This is one of those chapters that has to exist to get us from point A to point B, which are my least fave to write tbh lol mainly because those kinds of chapters are the hardest for me to write -.- Anyway, I’m gonna be taking a week off from writing because 1) I wrote 60k words in September and ya girl needs a break lol and 2) Voltron S4 happens Friday so I wanna use my free time to binge XD im an adult i swear. ANYWAY, that being said, I’ll be sharing other writers’ fics for the week instead of working on anything myself! Kingdom will most likely be back around 10/20-10/23 time.

Almost as soon as the door to Gajeel’s complex slammed behind her, a searing pain shot through Levy’s skull, blinding her momentarily as it nearly knocked her down with its force. The brick of the entryway bit into the skin of her back as she stumbled back into it, the air whooshing out of her lungs in one loud gasp. Her hands found the stone pressed into her back, feeling the coolness from the Fall chilled air beneath her fingers as the pain settled into a thrumming ache.

A beat passed.

And then another.

Curious eyes watched as people walked by, interested enough to twist their necks as they went but not enough to become involved. It was the kind of faux concern that made the passerby feel like a good Samaritan for showing the most basic level of human compassion without actually doing anything. The feeling of it made her skin crawl.

“I’m never drinking again,” she moaned to no one in particular as she breathed in through her nose and slowly out through her mouth. Levy had never been one to get the textbook hangover, always sidestepping the nausea and headaches that almost always made Lucy turn into a recluse for at least a day. Of course, she’d also never really been one for drinking until she lost an entire chunk of her memory either. She groaned again as she fought back the shame of waking up in Gajeel’s room without any recollection of how she’d gotten there.

Unfortunately, there was always a first time for everything.

Several moments came and went as she regained her bearings, her breath finally settling out as the pain dulled but never fully subsided. Only after the city stopped spinning around her did Levy finally push out of the doorway, counting each step in an attempt to ground herself. It took several counted sets of 100 steps before she finally reached her own complex, the cool AC of the bright hallway freezing the sweat on the back of her neck that had accumulated from the walk. Her front door was a welcome sight as she stumbled towards it, swiftly sheathing the key in the lock as she pushed it open.

Before her lay a mess of cups, knocked over books, and discarded clothing. A nagging sense of alarm bubbled in her gut as she looked over the chaos that told the story of her night. The casual disarray didn’t align with the vague memories she held of her and Lucy as they’d spoke and drank, never once touching her bookcase. Even the clothes that she’d tried on had been laid out on her bed, waiting for her to return home and replace them on their hangers.

The pain that had rooted itself in the line between her temple and the base of her skull flared as she took it in, trying to match the scene before her with that of the scenes in her mind. It felt like a crime scene as opposed to a living room after a fun night of partying and the sense of foreboding didn’t escape her as her eyes swept the area. Pushing down the bitter bile that was raising in her throat, Levy shut the door behind her and dropped her keys on the small dish that sat on the shelf by her door.

I just don’t remember, that’s all, she thought to herself as she walked further into the room, eyes scanning the chaos as if she could pull answers from the scattered mess. The longer she looked, the easier it was for Levy to convince herself that the disorganization was just another piece of missing memory wiped away by alcohol. It was the only explanation that dulled the edge of the sharp unease cutting down her spine. With a resigned sigh, she walked through the living area and by her desk, gaze taking stock of the state of it, only to feel her pulse leap.

Levy stopped in her tracks, the dull ache in her temples roaring to life as she stared at the opened book of stories. Spread wide with its painted pages staring upwards, it sat otherwise undisturbed on her desk amongst her notebooks and writing utensils. Her limbs seized as her eyes traced over the wide span of the tome as she worked her way through the muddled thoughts of the night before once again.

She’d closed the book.

Levy could still hear the heavy thud of its leather cover closing over its ancient pages as if the sound was still echoing against the cream walls of her room. Even if she was missing a piece of what had happened that night before, Levy knew Lucy would never have allowed her to return to the book, the night partially born from the belief she was overworked.

Drawing closer to her desk and swallowing her heart as it beat its hummingbird rhythm in her throat. With each step forward, the pain at her temple ebbed away, chased from her by the stifling weight of exhaustion as if the very air around her was sucking the energy from her bones. It was a visceral thing, starting at her very core and working its way through her limbs until she ached with the numbing chill of it. Faltering, the chair at her desk met her as her legs gave out and plopped her onto the soft cushioning.

The portrait lay before her now, as vivid as the painting of the queen from the day before and filling her with the same sense of ominous dread. Thin black lines and swirling colors swirled across the alabaster page, moving together to create an intricate scene filled with such beauty and despair, it almost hurt to look at it. Laying on the ground of what looked like a castle room, was a black haired knight in onyx armor. The ruby of his eyes was bright, only challenged by the vivid scarlet of the blood that had spilled out beneath him from a gash that stood out on his armor just over where his heart had beat beneath the darkened steel. His head was cradled in the lap of a blue haired woman whose face was partially obscured by the azure strands that fell over it as she looked down at him. Garnet stained the sun colored dress she wore with macabre streaks.

Just beside the woman, right at her knee, was a blood stained dagger.

As she stared at it, the strange debilitating sensation racking against her insides fought with her will as she tried to keep her eyes trained on the image. It all looked so familiar. Prickling over her skin with the same demanding tingle of deja vu, Levy fought to reach out towards the memory that commanded to be remembered.

The world crackled and shifted around Levy as she pulled herself closer to the page. Her heart thumped in the base of her throat, angrily combating the tiredness that was threatening to sink her as she stared at the woman’s sorrow filled face. The thick, cloying taste of familiarity threatened to choke her as she tried to swallow it down and keep it locked behind her teeth. Her gaze slid from the woman to the knight’s blazing red eyes as she struggled to bring her hand up towards the painting. Levy’s eyelids grew heavier as she traced the outline of the couple with a shaking finger. The resemblance was striking, and she felt her lungs fighting against the cage of her ribs as she fought off the torpor that was sliding like thick concrete through her limbs. There was no doubt that the blue haired woman was the same as the one from her dream.

The same as her.

She stared at the painting’s downturned eyes, rivulets of tears cascading down her cheeks as her thin hand was frozen in a caress over the man’s face. Her own fingers trembled with the illustrated touch that she could almost feel against her own skin. A sadness crawled slowly into her chest, curling around her heart before evolving into a breath stealing, earth moving despair. Sobs for a heartache she didn’t even know rolled off her lips as tears blurred her vision, melting the blacks, blues and reds of the image together into a molten bruise.

He died. The stray thought flitted through her mind as the heavy cloud of fatigue weighed her down, guiding her head down onto the desk beside the book. He died in my arms.

Darkness was eating away at the edges of her vision as she ran the pad of her index finger over the grim expression on the knight’s face.

On Gajeel’s face.

As the shadows spilled over her sight, the distant sound of voices hummed in her ears. The paralyzing blanket of sleep settled over her as her eyes finally closed, the chatter increasing as she sunk into its inky depths. Before her senses faded completely, a single, heartbroken howl ripped through the darkness.

“Gajeel!”

“She’s pretty,” Lily said as he fixed Gajeel with his onyx stare. A strange light glittered in the depths of his eyes as he looked at him as if he could pull a response straight from him. Something about Lily’s interest felt wrong, a hidden agenda lurking underneath every word as he’d questioned him about the blue haired woman from the bar. Though they were best friends, Lily had never shown an interest in Gajeel’s personal affairs. He could count the number of times his brother had asked him specifically about his love life-- or rather, lack thereof-- on one hand.

One finger, in fact.

And it was when Lily had pushed his way into Gajeel’s apartment without so much as a hello. It had raised his hackles, as well as his guard, though he had let the man in all the same only to find himself on the receiving end of an inquisition. After dropping his heavy black jacket down onto the back of the couch, and settling himself into the soft leather, he’d made himself at home as Gajeel’s own personal interrogator. If he knew that this was what Lily had had in mind when he’d called him that morning, he wouldn’t have even answered the phone. He’d barely listened as his brother spoke, lost momentarily in the inky coloring that had stained the skin beneath Lily’s eyes as if he hadn’t slept at all.

He looks older, he’d thought to himself as he continued to speak, asking more and more questions about Levy.

A throbbing pressure blossomed between his ears as the visit went on, making him more irritable than usual as Lily continued to poke and prod him for answers. He told himself that was the reason he was giving Lily monosyllabic answers that were bitter on the tip of his tongue, and not because for the first time in his life, he distrusted Lily. If his brother had noticed the barely hidden suspicion that darkened his tone, he didn’t let on as he persisted with his insistent questioning.

The last question was what broke him of his stoic stance, the words erupting from him before he could stop himself.

“You seem awfully interested, Lil,” Gajeel nearly spat as he fixed his brother with a scowl. His face stayed carefully blank at the angry remark, which only filled him with caustic apprehension. The feeling razed his insides and burned against his ribcage until there was nothing left but stinging nerves.

You have to make sure she gets home safe. Lily’s voice from the night before was clear over the muddled pain that had settled itself deep in his head. The thick sweetness of suspicion coated his tongue as he remembered the way his brother had suggested he take her home. At the time it had felt as if Lily was just concerned for a girl who was too drunk to be alone. Gajeel would have helped her anyway, without the suggestion that had been thrust upon him until he’d finally conceded. Now, he couldn’t shake the bitter realization that maybe Lily had an ulterior motive behind his good guy act.

“You aren’t telling me something.” Gajeel ignored the betrayal that made his words quiver against his lips. Silence stretched between them as they held each others gazes, a battle of crimson and obsidian waging against each other in a show of dominance. Hours forced themselves into the span of just a handful of seconds before Lily dropped his gaze.

“Are you still having that dream?” His voice seemed distant as Lily finally spoke. It carried the heavy weight of insinuation over its bluntness, not even bothering to mask the innuendo in the words. Almost as soon as the words had left his mouth, the headache rammed angrily against his skull, blocking out all other thoughts as it hammered away at his brain. A grimace twisted his face as the sharp pain stole his breath.

The room pitched on its axis and his stomach rolled with the sudden lurch. Everything shuddered and shook around him as Gajeel clutched at his consciousness, Lily’s face blurring in his vision as he frowned. Darkness descended over him as his lips parted in silent protest. The last thing he heard was Lily’s soft voice as it cracked and twisted over his words.

“I’m sorry, Gajeel.”

I have a question about car insurance. I was recently shopping around for quotes for car insurance. I had gotten an email about Washington Mutual Car Insurance, so I decided to get a quote. I was astounded when they quoted me with $2500 every 6 months or $5,000 a year. I was just completely blown away. My car, a 2004 Nissan Sentra, is barely even worth that much. I called them up and asked why they were quoting me that rate and they said it was because of my age and credit score. Last company auto renewed my policy but i wasnt aware of this as had moved address, so to cancel it I had to pay 133 as id already started going with someone else on top of the initial deposit amount i had to pay for both companies which has took a large chunk of my money for what i feel was no fault of mine, then a month later im getting letters from my current insurance asking me to pay an extra 90 plus 25 admin fee or my policy will be cancelled AGAIN meaning a cancellation fee because when i said i had held my licence for 8 years they recon its 7 ive held it for and this makes my policy go up, thing is i got my licence on 22/08/2003 and took my poliocy out on the 19/08/2011 so they're making out when i took out the policy i only had licence for 7 years for sake of 2 days who the hell wouldnt have said 8 to that? it just seems theyre trying everything now days trawling through all your stuff finding the smallest detail just so they can get money off you or cancellation fees cos that way they're not risking anything on insurance but still gettin money off you for cancellation fees its a joke and I can really see why people think there's no point having insurance anymore. Plus I have never made a claim since I started driving but because others have in the country im being punished with premiums going up. Will it just end up where everyone who simply cant afford it thinks sod it and drives round with no insurance? surely that would make things even worse but all these cancellation fees if it happens again that I have to cancel that will be 550 ive paid in the last 2 months and still my car wont have insurance????? arghhhhh its doing my head in surely something can be done to help the customers a little more as insurance was always a headache but this is becoming ridiculous now. ..""

Hi. On April first, my neighbor hit my dad's car in our neighborhood. Our garages are facing each other, and my dad was going backwards to get out of our garage. He was already in the street and he was ready to go in his way. Suddenly, our neighbor back out from her garage very fast and hit the driver door of my car. She didn't stay in that position, she moved and my dad did the same. The white bumper of her van had no visible damages, but my door needs to be replaced. Also, there is white paint in car in the place she hit it. We asked for her insurance, but she didn't have it in that moment. We wrote the plate number and took some quick pictures. I called my insurance to report the accident. In the night, when she returned home, we asked for her insurance, but she refused. We called the police and she agreed to give us her insurance information. In fact, she wrote the information herself. I called her insurance(Geico) the next day, and she had already made a claim, and she only said she didn't hit my car; she didn't give more details. My dad gave his version of the accident with a lot of details, but she didn't do it. Her Insurance tried to contact her, but there is no answer from her. I see her everyday, so I am sure is not responding on purpose. Now, her insurance called me and told me that because she is not responding, there is no way to confirm she was involved in the accident. therefore, they denied liability. I was shocked because they took that decision only because they cannot contact her. They didn't came to take pictures of the place or the cars. So, I tell them I was going to send the pictures I took. I did send the pictures but now, the adjuster is not in his office, and he will be back next week on Thursday.
