Getting decent rest might seem near-impossible , especially when one’s world is suddenly ( & rather rudely ) SHAKEN into waking , prying the good Captain from sleep with little more grace than flagrantly wrenching someone away from a modicum of momentary p e a c e .  Vasco is greeted by not one of his companions , but two : standing there is Lhore with Kaen standing just beside her , the both of them looking particularly d i s p l e a s e d by their predicament of meeting each other ( hard to say which one is more so , the two of them are comically mirroring one another’s vexation to a tee , frowning & glaring as much as they are ) .

Even as he wakes and begins to sit upright , Lhore continues to hold a TIGHT GRIP on his shoulder , claws minding themselves as they g r a s p at him.  ❝ Good , ❞ She sighs a bit , a fleeting look of relief meandering over her scaled features and loosening the tension in her expression , ❝ You’re awake. ❞  How could he not be when she was just busy giving him whiplash ?  ❝ Now , ❞ She motions over her shoulder with her free hand , gesturing dismissively at Kaen who watches her gesture with a narrow-eyed squint as if ( just barely ) withholding the intent to make her pale-clawed fingers burst into flames.  ❝ One of your … C h i l d r e n — ❞

❝ — Ah’m n o t a child ! ❞  Kaen snaps in offense , arms crossing.  Seriously , why do people keep assuming that ?  ❝ Stop sayin’ tha’.  Lissen , all Ah said was — ❞

❝ — Have found me , ❞ Lhore continues , pointedly IGNORING & SPEAKING OVER the faun’s agitated rebuttal , uncaring of w h y they came to see her ; it doesn’t matter.  The point is , Lhore isn’t a people person.  She doesn’t intend to make exceptions for a lonely brat like this.  ❝ Vasco , please , I implore you , would you be so kind as to collect them ?  I fear if we are left alone together we may get into a tiff.  And I would hate for that to happen. ❞

At this , Kaen barks a laugh – mocking enough that Lhore turns ‘round and glares at them – shaking their head.  ❝ Speak fer yerself , lady , ❞ They say snidely , furred ears flicking upright , antlered head lifting h i g h e r in mock arrogance , ❝ Yer not worth th’ effort o’ screwin’ wit’ anyways ! ❞  Such a comment earns them exactly what they want , the qilin’s features breaking out into a HORRIBLE SNARL , a warning growl eliciting in response to their words.  Kaen can only s m i l e back at her , knowing they’ve earned the pleasure of getting under her skin.
