His first canvas was his classroom walls, where he drew his favourite cartoon characters. “Art remains a passion in my life that gives me an adrenaline rush,” says Soni, who pursued a degree in textile design from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi. He adds, “Art is a medium for me to know myself and is one of the greatest passions that I have cherished over many years. I grew up in the western part of Uttarakhand, in a small town called Uttarkashi. I remember my inclination towards art was when I started reading comics at the age of eight. I picked up those characters as an inspiration and soon, started making my own comics.” About six months back, he started posting his work on his Instagram account, and there has been no looking back since then. His work has been acknowledged by Bollywood actors like Varun Dhawan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Parineeti Chopra, Sushmita Sen, Mrunal Thakur, Chunky Panday and Sharman Joshi, Bhavana Pandey and English actor Scott Adkins. Production houses like Dharma Productions and Excel Entertainment, among others have spoken about his art. Soni has also been awarded by Choice Inc, a US-based company, for one of his works. Recently, he was also selected by Creative Gaga and has had his work featured in the category of Best Indian Illustrators. Talking about the impact that art has had on him, Soni shares, “To me, art is like a hilly road with many curves, and you don’t know what to expect after a curve. As you create your art, each time, it unfolds a surprise, and the result gives me a kick.
