was at a convention for physicians (actual medical doctors) and can count on one hand the number of ppl I saw wearing a mask
1 note · View note
According to the government and my doctor's guidelines, I am now allowed out in public, with a mask, because it's been five days since I started having symptoms and I don't have a fever any more. So I went out this morning & did the necessary errands that had been piling up. Then J called to say he was coming home early from a work trip, and would I take another test, because he can't afford to get sick in this busy season. I do still test positive, and not just vaguely either, so now it's masks at home & staying in opposite ends of the house.
I hadn't left the house since last Sunday morning, except once to go for a walk at the nature preserve down the road, and I've been here alone that whole time. (That's why you get so many posts - gotta talk to somebody.) I'm mostly better, but I won't be going out much for a while yet. Maybe to hike; that's safe, and keeps me from going stir crazy.

covid posting
Pretty sure I’m over covid, since all the symptoms are gone except for the “everything tires me out” phase, which will probably go on a long time. My coworker was well over covid, and came back to work but was still in the “I can barely stand up by the end of the day” part of it for a good ‘nother week.
And like, given that I live around a 3-4 on the fatigue scale, I can see the “everything is tiring” phase lasting... a very long time. Gotta ration my spoons.
So. June 18 exposure, June 20 symptoms, July 3 not achy/coughing but still tired. And probably testing positive for another 6 days.
I have coverage at work until next Monday, so I don’t have to go in until I’m testing negative. The kids have movies, and maybe even an art activity if my TA’s are enterprising.
I’m so thankful to have friends and family in the area, who have been keeping me fed and healthy and sane while I’m cooped up in my room, trying not to give my roommates covid. So far, I think I’ve succeeded! And given that the four of us share a kitchen and bathroom, that’s not nothing.
Go me!
That said, if any of them start showing symptoms in the next week I’ll be really bummed.

Kinda shocking how fast history falls into the "oh wow, yeah, that used to be a thing" category.

My dad lost his sense of smell

I'm mostly recovered from the Rona, and here's my takeaway:
My senses are haywire - I can taste and smell, but everything is flat and one dimensional. Gatorade just tastes sweet, my lotion only smells like vanilla, etc. This should go away over the next couple of weeks.
Imagine you have the flu. Muscle pain, fever, just generally feeling shitty. Turn that up to eleven and knock the volume knob off, then you have covid. It's fucking miserable.
Paxlovid leaves the worst taste at the back of your mouth. Tasted like throwing up and a Switch cartridge. Awful.
You have to be kind to yourself. Get a new book or game, eat what you want within reason, and keep yourself occupied while you're miserable.
Wear your mask, wash or sanitize your hands regularly, and test regularly.
Good luck!

That wtf feel when you’ve been quarantining away from your roomies for a full week, and then you hear they’ve brought their bf over to visit.
Like, bitch! I’m contagious and you’re bringing GUESTS? No! You wanna see the bf, go to HIS house. Unless his roomies have covid, in which case y’all gotta wait a couple of weeks.
Cosplay 2020 for us, skype each other for a couple of weeks, and then go over the non-infectious house. Can you do that for me? Because I’m trying so effing hard to expose the fewest people I can and you’re JUST making it harder.
Lord almighty, some people just do not have any sense.

"sorry I gave you covid”
The experience of calling everyone I’ve seen in the last three days to tell them I have covid is pretty uncomfortable. Is there a comfortable way to say, “Hey, I probably gave you covid, sorry about that.”
Then I got to call everyone I had appointments with for the next week, and cancel or reschedule them. Sure, one of them is a virtual meeting, so maybe I still have to go to that one. Ugh. WFH sucks. But no hair cut, no cute date, no hanging out in Worcester (because I’ve never been).
I very much felt like I’d given folks an STD. Lots of guilt, a goodly dosage of shame, and pretty much no way to apologize.
