You know... Anne Rice has a distinctive style. Her writing is not for everyone the same way that Lovecraft or Shakespeare aren't for everyone. They have very florid, descriptive styles. They are highly creative with language. But because she's a "popular novelist" it's okay to just trash it. Stephen King asked a group of popular writer friends if there was a question they were never asked at writer's talks, and Amy Tan said, "No one ever asks about the language." Writing is not easy. Writers are not typists. Fiction writers are not the same as journalists or bloggers or nonfiction writers. The techniques are different, and open. This is art. Popular novelists are allowed to be artistic with language.

Listen, there are valid critiques from academics regarding her style, her characterization, and especially her plot, but for fuck's sake, let it go. If you don't like it please, please, curate your experiences. Don't read it. Wikipedia and Google are free. Or just go around asking people on social media about fandoms instead of looking into source material. No judgment, seriously. You do you, and I genuinely hope you have fun.
