I was at one point one of the “it’s important that Armand be a teenager” guys but then after thinking about it some more I revised that to, it is important that Armand has never experienced anything resembling a normal human life. He has NO lived experience of a nonviolent reciprocal human connection or a safe existence and this is what makes him simultaneously a very sympathetic and relatable Trauma Character and also exceptionally monstery even in comparison to other vc characters because he is like, more powerful and more violent and more traumatized than any real person could ever be

the thing that i find really compelling about armand is how he’s kind of just a black hole. the repeated image of him reading books by flipping rapidly through them and then discarding them like empty shells, the way he binge watches silent films and blade runner and videos of himself reading poetry, the idea that the beauty of his face can all of a sudden collapse like melting wax bc there’s no substance behind it, his desperate need to be loved loved loved by someone who can make him belong in the time he's in… he’s a void with teeth. this makes him sympathetic because he can be so childlike and open but it also makes him capable of like, off the charts evil AND - this is crucial - it makes him fucking weird. what doesn’t kill you for 500 years makes you obsessed with blenders. this post got away from me

Armand lived in Venice during the absolute sluttiest period for mens’ clothes and I gotta talk about it.

Anne constantly used Botticelli as a reference for clothes (who was at his peak in the 1470s/1480s) but Armand was in Florence when Savonarola died, which puts him in Venice the late 1490′s. Fashion was moving fast, there was a big moral panic over society falling apart and becoming too secular, and in Venice it was time to let your inner ho out.

The look: Short. Tight. Made of as many expensive scraps as possible.
