The thing that gets me about this episode, in terms of starting to really build that close bond between Ellie and Joel, is that he failed her.

And then he said sorry.

He missed hearing a kid, Ellie had to step in, and Joel prioritized the enemy on the ground over checking in on Ellie. And he saw that mistake for what it was (I’d argue it’s normal to miss an enemy in this situation, but Joel’s used to Tess having his back and he now has a kid instead and if she has to step in at all, it’s a failure to him).

And when they finally get just a second to sit, he checks in. It’s awkward and hard for him and he’s buried this instinct so far down, but it’s a part of his makeup at this point, so he still tries.

And at the end of the try, he simply says sorry.

I wonder how many of the adults that failed Ellie ever apologized for it. We didn’t see Marlene apologize for leaving her in a military-ran orphanage and not checking in ever. it definitely could’ve happened in the bit we missed, but Marlene and Joel are very similar, in that they are laser focused when they have a cause or a job, so i don’t think she would’ve taken the time.

Especially not in the face of what Ellie could mean to the rest of the world. Marlene loves Ellie, only there’s a “but” because Ellie could save what’s left of humanity and that has to come first.

I’d be willing to bet that Joel is the first one to look at Ellie, apologize to her for how he perceived he failed her (and later apologize for what she has to go through so young), and mean it.

#tlou spoilers #tlou #THE PUN BOOK HELPED TREMENDOUSLY TOOOOO #this got me tho #ellie has seen joel beat a man to death to protect her #and has now also had him apologize for failing her #and for a girl who was left all on her own for so long that must be an overwhelming feeling #almost painful probably #this episode was real good at showing the push and pull of Joel too #he laughs at her dumb (AMAZING) jokes and asks her how she's doing and asks about her lift #but then pulls back almost immediately #turns his back to her or calls her cargo or physically moves away to try and create distsance #it doesn't work lol but he's trying #joel #ellie #also i looooove Marlene so this isn't a hit piece on her or anything #shes a great foil for joel and shes a great character #but she definitely didnt apologize to ellie

ran a 7:01 mile today, after two and a half weeks of not running (but doing a lot of hiking). i didn't feel great going into the run though because it's been raining and dreary the last few days which tanks my energy levels, so i think i can do even better. i set a goal of 6:30 by the end of june and i was starting to feel doubtful about being able to hit it, but i think i got this.

#the hawk speaks #running #my PR in high school was 5:45 but i typically ran around 6 flat because i had mental issues lol #fact that i'm only a minute slower than i was at my peak... while having not run in a decade and currently not training #training being the whole nine yards of varied run structures weight lifting other cardio etc #i am purely just doing 3 mile runs a couple times a week and going hiking once or twice on the weekends and that is ALL for exercise #no cardio no weightlifting or cross training nothing #no super long runs or mile repeats or 400 sprints or any of that crap #and i'm already closing in on my peak-athlete-6-days-a-week-training past self's times #amazing #yes i know a minute is a lot in the mile but when i say i feel so incredibly different running now than i did back then i really mean it #my energy levels are more than ready to beat my old PRs it's just a matter of getting the muscles back in shape #thank you carnivore diet for showing me i can enjoy a sport i was always good at but never loved #it turns out i hated it at the time because i was sick. and now that i'm healthy i can fall in love with it completely

Since that sports rpf breaking the containment post is making the rounds… does a fencing fandom exist on tumblr I REALLY need to know because every time I search it up here it’s either picturesque houses with wooden fencing or fanart of fence the comic…

I fenced recreationally for about 5 years, and because that was done rather unwillingly, I never actually got into the sport (as in I didn’t watch it whatsoever which is bad I know). However now that I’ll never be the one on the piste again it’s becoming increasingly compelling to me…

#the sport is filled with the Narratives that I love. the teammate-rival. a duel of strategy. the etiquette. how fucking FAST it is #the blade being an extension of yourself. taking care of it. the raw exhilaration of a victory (all those mask off Getty pics. god)#lifting yourself to glory nine minutes at a time. letting nine minutes and 14m of space decide your career.#also last year I watched a kvariety episode ft. the Korean men’s sabre team who had just won gold in the Olympics. their story is amazing #em speaks #additionally I will not name names but I used to know a guy who was good enough to be a part of team [redacted]#but he was tragically juuust not good enough to make it to the biggest competitions and the fact that he was poor didn’t help #I still think about him every so often. seeing all the fancams from svt’s concerts and hearing all about people’s concert experiences gives me a tremendous amount of joy 🥰

#love seeing non-carats and casual listeners who went to the concert say they had an amazing time too <3 #and it's precious how so many people have said that being at the concert felt like all the weight was lifted from their shoulders #and they could forget their worries and feel happiness for a couple of hours #it's the magic of svt isn't it ✨#love seeing all the interactions between the boys and carats too #reacting to the signs posing for pictures taking phones to take selfies coming down to talk to carats at the barricade #letting carats sing the aju nice high note hyping up carats dancing to snap shoot etc etc #too precious #no need to even talk about the performances and stages like... this is seventeen of course the performances are incredible 😪#they always change it up too like i've been keeping an eye on the fancams from basically all stops (yes i am very carat)#and no show is like the other there's always something different happening during ments during the encore etc #anyways i'm so happy that they're finally able to do concerts again #you can tell it's what they love doing the most and that they were really hungry for it #it's them in their element and it's beautiful to see <3 #io.txt

#another self care day for me!#i'm gonna play a game and then later i'll go my dads and watch a film #i slept well last night! my mum gave me a pillow she had spare and I stg it's magic i've slept through the night all week #without waking up a ton of times 😭 normally my sleep is awful #feeling a little sore from my strength workout yesterday so i'm gonna be having a day of rest #i'm not a massive workout person i do it 4 days a week and I walk a lot but i don't go the gym i aint paying #i lifted my dad's 30kg weights and my nephew was amazed lmao 😭#he's 2 but its still cute #anyway!!! anyone got any plans for today??? i hope you all have a lovely day! ilyyy #well i try to workout 4 days a week my low mood has made me slack lately but that's fine #hoping to get some new tennis and badminton equipment soon so i can spend the summer on the courts!
