Because I'm a silly goose and kinda obsessed with my own art rn (rare), I'm gonna share some process sketches and junk of the tmagp characters as I was figuring out designs. Nobody will see this but that's okay!! This is just for me anyways lol.
Gonna put it all under this cut cuz it is loooong.
These are kinda the first iterations of Sam and Alice once the actual show was released (I had drawn Sam before, with the trailer. These versions of Sam are more similar to my first few attempts at him.)

Alice was always gonna have albinism. It just took a bit to figure out her clothes and actual silhouette. Sam, I had to redesign his hair on 5 separate occasions before I was satisfied.

I kid you not, I have like 4 pages of sketches in my sketchbook just on Sam Khalid. I love him so much <3 . I dunno what it was that made me change his hair to curly exactly, but I'm glad I did. He is now my corduroy boy ^^ .

Comparing Elisabeth's costumes in the Vienna productions of Elisabeth das musical (Act 2)
Part 1 can be found here. Once again, I'm comparing the original/1st revival design of Elisabeth by Reinhard Heinrich (lower referred to as the Heinrich design) and the 2nd revival design by Yan Tax (lower referred to as the Tax design).
Hungarian coronation gown
Heinrich version: White satin bodice with puffed sleeves and red velvet stomacher, decorated with silver lamé bows, gold trims and beading. White satin skirt with white lace ruffles and triangular silver lamé insets. Now, this costume was designed back when we didn't have Wenn ich tanzen will permanently in Elisabeth, so the audience only saw it in Éljen, which aguably originally gave it very little stage time. But I like how it has the same general vibe and shape as the original dress, but they made it their own by changing up the colors. And the way it mirrors her Shatten dress from Act 1 with the cut and the lamé inserts in the skirt but it's lighter and more refined is amazing. But once they included Wenn ich tanzen will in the 1st revival, this dress did look like it could use more grandeur. On the other hand, I do like that in 1st revival Wenn ich tanzen will, Elisabeth is in opposing colors to Der Tod's colors (white/red to black/blue).
Tax version: Royal blue satin bodice with cream puffed sleeves and white satin stomacher, decorated with white bows, lace sewn into the princess seams and faux pearl string lacing. Cream skirt with gold lace sewn on and a gold lace apron. This is gorgeous. This costume looks like it stepped right out of the historical photos. That blue is gorgeous, the choice of lace and decoration is just right (especially that scalloped lace inserted into the princess seams) and the sheer level of fluff is perfection. The only nitpicks I have is that I'm not a big fan of most of the jewelry sets they combine with this costume and that they absolutely butchered this costume when Roberta Valentini played Elisabeth.
Which is better? This might come as a surprise, but I will go ahead and say the Tax version! I like the Heinrich version as well, but the Tax one is just so gorgeous. The Heinrich version does show that originally, this costume wasn't supposed to play such a big part as is does now.

Insane asylum dress:
Heinrich version: Dark blue striped satin longsleeved bodice and bustled skirt with front buttons and white puffed undersleeves. Accessorized with a black veiled hat, white lace collar, white neckbow and white gloves. This dress is so elegant while also very visibly being daywear. I like the choice of color, since with the next costumes, her costumes just get progressively darker, showing her descent into depression. And the white accents are a nice remenant of her previous white dress.
Tax version: Coppery orange/yellow duochrome longsleeved bodice with front buttons and bustled skirt with duochrome purple/blue trimmings and details. The skirt has two draped apron layers, a strip of honeycomb smocking and a yellow-ish cream ruffle as trim. Accessorized with matching hat with a brown netting overlay, a golden brooch and earrings and a pair of orange leather gloves. This dress is just too busy to look at with a million different textures. The duochrome fabric is also a rather unlucky choice of material since it shows every single wrinkle if it isn't sewn right. Also, the color choice here makes no sense to me storytelling-wise and if you take into account, that they decided to light this scene in blue, she just looks super washed out. And I hate the hat they gave her here, because it literally doesn't match the costume.
Which is better? Heinrich takes it again. This costume is much better both visually and story-wise. The Tax one looks like there were too many ideas put into it and it just clashes so much.

Die Maladie:
Heinrich version: Dark blue/violet skirted jacket with front button closure, slightly puffed elbow length sleeves and a standing collar. Matching knee length breeches and black boots. Love the pants for a scene where she is supposed to have fainted while excercising! (We actually do have a pair of extant workout pants owned by Elisabeth, but they are more formfitting.) And the cut of the jacket looks a lot like the cut of Death's original 1992 jacket, which is a smart choice considering this is a moment where Elisabeth explicitly expresses an intent on ending her life, thus, bringing her closer to Death. Also, just the feminist sentiment of her getting to wear trousers for a scene where she definitely once and for asserts her dominance over her life choices is a great choice.
Tax version: lilac robe with bell sleeves and black lace striped decorations worn over a white nightgown (?). I wholeheartedly despise this costume. It doesn't give me any storytelling, it makes no sense within any context, it doesn't look like anything from this period of Elisabeth's life (the cut is almost looks like some weird mashup of Empire and Belle Epoque), and it just generally looks ugly. I don't understand at all why it's lilac and the black lace creates too much of a contrast and there is too much of it. And it features that sorry excuse for a necklace made out of rhinestones and felt.
Which is better? Heinrich completely won me over with the trousers. Plus, this is, in my opinion, one of the worst costumes from the Tax design.

Rastlose Jahre
Heinrich design: Black fitted bodice with a standing lace collar, slightly puffed sleeves and see through pleated detail over the chest. The bottom part of the bodice is out of satin and is made to look like an underbust corset and the bodice and sleeves are loosely decorated with sequins. This dress is gorgeous. It's both stark and sharp, yet gentle and vulnerable at the same time. That see through pleating is so gorgeous, kind of reminding me of the way her bertha collars were placed back on her Act 1 costumes, but, by making it incorporated into the middle of this high collared dress and see through, it's like a distant memory of her past she can't let go of.
Tax design: Black satin bodice with long sleeves with cuffs decorated with lace ruffles and bows. Black satin bustle skirt with asymmetrical draping and pleating, trimmed with a black/purple trim on the drapes. Accessorized with black leather gloves and a black velvet hat. I don't like the hat, but other than that, I don't mind this costume. It's a nice take on a bustle dress, the trimmings are interesting, but I am not really a fan of the asymmetry going on in the skirt.
Which is better? I would call this a tie, but I do lean a bit more towards Heinrich's design, so I'm giving it to the older version again. It just feels much more poetic and fitting for this period within the story.

Wie Du (reprise)
Heinrich design: White/light blue robe with flat scalloped lace collar and close-fitting long sleeves. Love the choice of light blue undertones as a mirror to her childhood dress in Wie Du in Act 1, but now, we get the colors on a much more fitted silhouette, showing us the maturity she has compared to the first Wie Du scene. I like the hair being a blend of both her younger and more mature hairstyles
Tax design: White satin dress with pagoda sleeves trimmed with white ribbons and blue/violet fringe. I don't like the choice of satin here, since it looks a tad bit too shiny and also am not a fan of the cut, since it makes her look a tad too dowdy. Also not a fan of the hair they gave her here, along with the very overdone old age makeup.
Which is better? Heinrich takes it again. His design is once again much more aesthetically pleasing to me.

Mourning dress
Heinrich design: The same dress as in Rastlose Jahre, but worn with a black tulle veil. Still love it here and the veil matches well with it. Also, I just noticed that with the inclusion of the vine on Elisabeth's costumes, the vine is made out of the same material and is almost lost on some of her clothes (especially those from periods of her life where she is most content) but it gets gets more prominent and noticeable on costumes from periods of her life where she desires/idolizes Death. Love, love, love the vine motif Heinrich came up with forever.

Tax design: Crushed black velvet dress/coat with cuffs trimmed lace ruffles and a fur/feather collar. This is the state this costume appeared in in the 2nd Vienna revival, but they did reuse the Rastlose Jahre dress for the end of the show from the following tour onwards (at least from what I saw in promo pictures). Not a big fan of this, since I hate the look of crushed velvet, even though the cuffs and collar are nice.
Which is better? Heinrich once again. The Tax design dress once again gave me a whole lot of nothing.
Conclusion: VBW made the wrong choice when they chose to scrap the Heinrich costumes, which just created such a beautiful poetic universe all on their own and replaced them with the vevry very generic Tax costumes. So, if I could say something to someone from VBW, it would be: either bring back the Heinrich design or comission a new set of costume designs that will restore some of the artistic finesse the Heinrich design had.

Ichiro: We saw him in full before, but I just want to reiterate how they intentionally got rid of all the connections Ichi had to the bros within his clothing. From Jiro's blue on his sleeves, the zip up shirt they all shared, and having the iconic BB lettering not there anymore- it seems like they're trying to distance Ichi's character from being so bro centric. Maybe to show growth how he's going to be more independent? It's a bit odd because being dependent isn't Ichi's flaw, that's Jiro and Saburo's... Maybe it's to show how THEYRE distancing from HIM 🤔
Jiro: This hair change is such a W for Jiro fans!! It was unclear if he actually changed it in art prior but this is a W SUCH A W!!! I miss the white stripes on his shoulders for contrast reasons but he looks just like a more mature version of his old design. It looks like he's wearing the checkered shirt instead of wrapping it around his waist which is cuter and makes much more sense fdsafdsfds.
Saburo: He looks all grown up LOL The time skip is only supposed to be a few months from what I recall, so at most he's now 15 but imo I think they're keeping them to og ages tbh. The mustard is such a good look for him! The more pastel yellow and school uniform esc coat of his old design did a lot to keep him looking / feeling young so this new design feels like he's growing up to be more comfortable to be who he is ;_;
Samatoki: He looks just as hot and he's somehow showing even MORE skin despite having a jacket lmao. Those popping buttons I see you Toki fdsafdsaf. Again he looks less like a gangster / yakuza but I wonder if they're trying to lean into that look. He pretty. Real pretty...
Jyuto: Thoughts have pretty much stayed the same, it reads like an Extra Wardrobe outfit rather than something he'd wear on the daily. In the new arc did he stop wearing his uniform since the government shut down? Did he just say fuck the dress code? I do like the outfit, it makes him look a lil more sleazy LOL
Rio: Rio looks good he looks good!! I don't have much thoughts on him since I never really do but I still find it hilarious he has the same pants as his old outfit.
Ramuda: He looks excellent as always but I do agree with the original poster that I miss his blue :C I think the yellow makes him look really young and it kinda doesn't jive with me ??? I love the hat though he looks very very cute. Ramuda also has the best shoes in the cast and I appreciate they didn't change it.
Gentaro: Gentaro is so funny I think they legitimately just made his back cape longer?? He also got rid of the high collar undershirt, which probably symbolizes that he's hiding less of himself to his friends. I love Gen but I need to see him not in motion to see how well this outfit fits him. ATM I think the longer cape messes up his silhouette by making him seem like a rectangle.
Dice: I miss the trench coat!! I miss the trench coat!!! I don't care if it would be smelly I miss the trench coat !!! I think getting rid of the black parts on his collar and outside his sleeves kind of make him look too... normal??? Like idk, where's the spice!! Give him fingerless gloves or sm shit he needs SOMETHING to make him look less like just a guy :C He's cute but I think his old fit is >>>
Jakurai: He looks SOOOOO GOOOD. We've seen this in full before but he looks CUUUTEEE. Like I'm no Jakurai stan but hooo boy that coat does smthn to me. He looks looser, like he's gonna have some fun, maybe go to the mall or smthn he looks good !!!!! Anons brought up Jakurai removing his doctor coat as a symbolism for his savior complex going away and I think it's really cool !!! One of the best new fits imo.
Hifumi: I like his og outfit much better I'm sorry 😭😭😭 I think with Materno's main color being light grey, Jakurai being in white, Doppo being a light grey now, Hifu being that off white just makes him blend together with the other members. Maybe it's the fact that he's set against a white background but he just gets lost among the other two. Having the darker colors concentrated around his head / upper body helps though.
Doppo: I love him my baby I love him I lve nye my baby my vobeoteoy frmajwfmweoijfghuefuwafjewanjmisafkowafewoawfeaiow. I say from my last post: "He’s getting loose he’s getting silly he’s CRAZY DOPPO IN THE HOUSE !!!"
Sasara: I like the outfit on it's own but I kind of... hate how it's matching with Rosho. SasaRo enjoyers rejoice but I don't like how it doesn't allow Sasara (and Rosho in turn) be his own character. It was mainly an issue I had with Rosho but this new fit puts in on Sasara too, that it kind of forces you to look at him in the lense of his relationship with Rosho rather than who he is as a chara on it's own. Also they made him less colorful :CC The bowtie is super cute though I like it.
Rosho: Rosho does look cute but again I wish it wasn't so obviously a callback to his relationship with Sasara!! I do like the hair, it's very cute fdsafdsa. He looks a lot more comfortable and a lot more confident but I'm unsure if its due to character development or just for cool points. Rosho looks like he smells good
Rei: He's too grey 💀 TOO GREY !!! I think getting rid of the hat and glasses was such a downgrade it does not look very good. It's a lot of my issues with Hifu's outfit without actually having a good clothing design to make up for it. I think it's nice how it could possibly be a call back to Kazuma Kiryu but that doesn't really make up for it :/
Kuko: I was wrong his hair did not get shorter 💀💀💀 But he is INCREDIBLE !! IT'S VERY GOOD!!! I have nothing to complain / nitpick about I think it's very good. (one nitpick I guess FDSAFDS. His bright hair now seems a bit out of place against the darkness of his clothing. Maybe making the purple accent stripes blue or red would have made it better? Unsure though.
Jyushi: He looks very good but I wish they gave him more interesting pants they're very underwhelming compared to his incredible top!! Like imagine sm crazy shit like lace racing stripes, some peekaboo patterns in triangles at the bottom of his flares, it would be very cute !!!
Hitoya: Very cute, very good, a stark improvement from his original look I have nothing else to say fdskafdasfdsa. Again, a 35 year old baby.
I think for some of the characters the outfits really really really really work (Doppo, Hitoya, Jakurai) but for a lot of them I think their original looks were much more iconic and much more fitting to themselves (Dice, Sasara, Rei). I hope we still get content put out with their original outfits because I'd legitimately be sad to never see Dice in his trench coat again :C

OMG OF COURSE I DO! Yippee!!! I don't have any colored pictures, but I will try to describe the colors for you. I just don't really like my own coloring, atm, but I will also try to post colored pictures, soon! As a little bonus, I will even show some characters I haven't written for, yet! OwO I will put a bit of information about them alongside their descriptions, hence the trigger warnings.
TW: Binge Eating Mentions, Alice in Wonderland Syndrome, Religious Figures
^I already drew Aluminum and Derek, so I will link it here. If you need more pictures of these two, just ask! Derek is pink and white, due to being a strawberry cow. His nose is pink with little black spots, and his nose ring changes colors, so just pick whatever you want. Aluminum is pale, skinny, and has blue freckles on his face. He also has purple freckles on his shoulders, magenta freckles on his stomach around his belly button, and red on the sides of his thighs, but they are usually covered by his patient gown, which he draws numerous eyes on in order to be able to see. The freckles would only really be visible if he changed into something else, probably after escaping the hospital. He also wears those gripping socks, which make their way up to his mid-calf.

^This is Dr. Victor Cogsworth, Aluminum's GI doctor. His eyes are green, and glow in the dark, allowing him to work a bit like a flashlight during power outages. His hair is black, with a white streak on the upper left side. His key, which winds him up, is gold and rests in his upper back. It is also removable. He tends to wear collared, button up shirts, ties, and dress pants alongside dress shoes. His lab coat is white, and is ends at his knees.

^This here is Father Cosmos, who goes by it/its. Its skin has a sort of black, blue, purple galaxy patters, which moves around a bit like liquid full of glitter, so it never stays exactly the same. Its eyes are a bit like black and white planets, in that the iris and pupil will be the same, looking like Saturn with its rings, with the right eye being black with white sclera (the part of your eye that is usually white) and the other being white with black sclera. The mouth on its chest eats, and has two rows of teeth, while the mouth on its face is for talking. Its hair is white, and around its head is a little set of planets that change constantly. It almost never takes its cassock off, nor its clerical collar, due to it being the only one in its community who wishes to spread the word of the religions of the mythical humans, alongside its friends, who are a rabbi, Imam, and swamis. It isn't in the hospital, but often visits the religious patients, and it and Dr. Cogsworth often meet outside the hospital at restaurants to have lessons on how to identify feelings. Dr. Cogsworth also talks to Father Cosmos about its binge eating, where it ensures him that it is going to therapy.

^The last character, who I just started designing, is Maya! She is only five, having just been admitted for a chronic case of Alice in Wonderland Syndrome (which I will talk more about in her short story). Her 'eyebrows' are actually an extra set of eyes. When they are closed, they are black, but when opened, they match her dark brown eye color. She has dark skin, with a natural grey afro. She has a fluffy grey shark tail, as well as a set of gills on her neck. Her patient gown is covered in bunnies, with other sets being covered in different animals. Her gripping socks are pink, going up to her knees.

Sharing this here mainly for @a-driftamongopenstars but also for whoever else would find this an interesting read.
What started as a fanfic idea mutated into a TTRPG campaign idea, which is hilarious because I don't really have much by way of a group to DM right now. (Not that I'm super comfortable with, anyway, because I am... very rusty.)
But it goes like this:
It's 1908 and the Industrial Revolution has come for Faerun. While the worship of some gods has become a bit tumultuous, worship of Gond, Waukeen, and Tymora is at an all-time high. Turns out the gods of invention, wealth, and luck benefit greatly from an era driven by capitalism and invention. The city this is the most visible in is good old Baldur's Gate, where the more things change, the more things stay the same.
But that... isn't really important to the party at hand. No, they find themselves stripped of their gear and not a shilling to their name, sitting in a cell. Despite various changes and reforms, the justice system is still harsh in The Gate. As such, the magic-proofed cells fill quickly.
Magic-proof because The Flaming Fist got tired of being the butt of jokes in The Baldur's Mouth. One too many "Is that an escaped prisoner using Gaseous Form or were you just passing wind?" jokes.
(Note: I'd have the players hash out what they're in for ahead of time in like a Session Zero thing. And you best believe I'd be using that information later...)
Luckily, or perhaps unluckily, for our adventurers, a trio stops in front of their cell. One, they'd recognize as the jailer, but the other two are odd. Far too well-dressed for these parts. One man, human, older, perhaps in his late 40s-early 50s, with a well manicured moustache and goatee, close-cropped salt-and-pepper hair, and a finely-tailored grey and blue three-piece affair. His companion? Roughly the same height as him, but an elf with blue and gold mottled eyes that sparkle a little too deviously. His manner of dress is an eccentric mix of Elven and human fashion sensibilities, and far flashier than his cohort. While he wears an undershirt in the more Elven style of the high collar affair you'd expect of by-gone days and tales of Sindarin nobility, over it is a rich blue frock coat with finely hand-stitched floral embroidery on the lapels in impressively bright-colored thread.
(Note: I would let players attempt a History roll to see if they know of the two gentlemen, if they wanted. It'd be easier for Baldurian players. A 12 would net them a general understanding that the elf is Astarion Ancunin, a perfume mogul in the city, but not much else other than that. 15+ Get varying increased insight into who they are, including who his compatriot is (Charles, basically his secretary and bodyguard rolled into one). A Nat 20 would get the very interesting insight that rumor has it that this isn't unusual -- Astarion pops into the jail quite a bit... to buy people.)
The Elven dandy grins and states gleefully that the party looks perfect and that he'd "liberate them" for approximately a thousand gold a head. "I do love the air of desperation on these fellows."
After a bit of haggling and discussion, the jailer and the human would walk away to get payment squared away, leaving the party with the white-haired elf, now leering at them through the bars.
"Don't worry, darlings. Once you get a few little jobs done for me, you'll be free as birds!"
And yet, something tells our fine adventurers that it most certainly isn't going to be that easy.

For once, a text message brought slight excitement to him. A message of confirmation that a certain something was ready to try out and be taken. He didn't know when Zarina's birthday was. He didn't even know his own, nor anyone else's in the Express. But landing in a town that thrived off of fashion and aesthetic, an idea had come to mind the last time he explored the area on his own. A gift, nothing more, to the woman he only assumed was a form of maternal figure to him.
He steps out of the Archive Room, making his way to the main parlor. Satisfied to see Zarina sitting there, he gives a short hum to get her attention. "Lady Zarina... Are you busy at the moment?"
No. Perfect. He invites her on a walk with him, leading her through the streets and towards a tailor shop. It was a nice afternoon for them, simply enjoying each other's company. He could tell that Zarina was curious about the purpose of their outing, as he seemed to be intentionally taking through certain corners, but he does not look at her nor indicate visibly that he had a plan. Once they reach a casual looking shop, he murmurs to stop here for a moment.
Once inside he greets the owner of the shop, speaking in hushed voices before he turns to Zarina and gestures to her to follow him upstairs. The owner leads them to a mannequin, covered with a sheet, and they carefully remove it to reveal a dress.
It was a beautiful dress, as blue as the night sky adorned with patterns of stars and crescent moons. A white collar that held an attachable see through cape. No matter how you looked at it, the wearer would seem as through they were wearing a part of the galaxy.
The owner has left them alone to take it in, and Dan Heng stays back to allow the silver haired woman to take a look at it, eyes trained curiously to see if she enjoyed it. A birthday loses its meaning after the third hundred years, Zarina noticed prior. Another year she lives, another year the world exists, another year she spends without those she cared for so deeply. The love of family will be her embodiment. As the Aeon of Origin loved humanity and the world, Zarina's love only extended to that specific group of people. Though, Astral Express brings the same feeling of attachment from her. They are the constant she hasn't had in a while, a presence she appreciates more than anything. Elio has spoken in wholehearted truths: she'll find something to bring out her previous self, her life.
She knows Elysia would've loved every single on of these people, embracing them like they are her heart. Sokolova's not a loving woman, not benevolent nor kind but these people... Who knew she'd find someone who would be seen as her son figure? Even if their appearances were the same in age, the experiences they've went through are intensely different. Though, there are too many who misunderstand when they go on walks together. It's quite funny watching Dan Heng's reaction to different inquiries and different whispers.
Walks... They're their favorite thing to do, isn't it? It's not the first time Dan Heng invites her out to walk around. It makes her smile contently when she agrees and accepts his invitation. However, she notices right away the difference in his attitude. There isn't much to talk about aside from the casual topics, but there is something hiding. In his eyes, in his expression, in his body language. There is anticipation of something. Dan Heng isn't one to be excited over many things. Thus, the silverette is curious as she follows him, asking if he's been around here. He doesn't reply much, but it's to be expected. Dan Heng isn't a talker, the silence remains preferable between them but she does find his actions far different.
There's unspoken trust in him. All because she knows lies and malice when she sees it. There isn't no one who can fool her on the express, no one can lie to her and not make her even partially suspicious. It's why Dan Heng's actions aren't poked at as she knows that there is a reason for his silence about where they go. It must be a surprise since he doesn't seem upset or tense as if preparing for a fight. And that's why she follows, humming behind him a tune familiar to him from the Belobog's theater.
All things considered, a clothing store isn't what she expected. Golden eyes look over the exterior of the shop, but her ears listen to the Nameless and his talk with the owner. How often has he come here? The owner seems to give her a smile and say a commentary about how careful and specific Dan Heng was. It seemed that the owner was quite delighted over what has been hidden from her. It's even funnier how she remains silent while following both men upstairs, noting ont he intricate and elegant designs.
Where did Dan Heng even find this shop? When did he visit it?
The questions aren't answered as the reason for this trip has been unfolded. The mannequin wears a beautiful dress and Zarina's breath stills. It's beautiful. It's undeniably, exceptionally beautiful. Sokolova steps forward, mesmerized by the fabric and the design of the dress. It befits her style and it makes her remember the significance of moonlight in her life. Memories come to her in a gentle wave, bringing her mind to the date that may be today or might've already passed. The day of birth. Another cycle of the Moon starts to be reborn with each cycle. She'd be the Moon Goddess in this dress, the attire befitting gods and goddess overseeing the humanity. Though, she wonders if it's fitting her nature, but she loves it. It amaze her how Dan Heng touched on her preferences and her interests, underlining the beauty of crescent moons (the Aeon of Origin smiles at you, the full moon gleaming behind her as she encourages you to step forward and accept the gift of life once more).
"It's beautiful," she finally speaks when she looks at Dan Heng. Her words are laced with gratitude as Zarina smiles softly at him. Though, she cannot deny that commissioning a dress without knowing exact measurements can be a terrifyingly dangerous gift! All because the corrections may or may not be possible. However, judging by the dress, there won't be any troubles. "How long did it take you to commission this, Dan Heng? What elegant and gorgeous work. You've paid such attention to detail... It must've been expensive."
But she won't deny it. No, she will wear it with pride and make sure others are aware of his gift and his attentiveness. There's no doubt in her mind that Dan Heng listens. A young man with lie ahead of him. The immortal life will follow him, but she hopes his journey will be a more joyous than hers. It's her birthday wish: Do not let him in this life to suffer tragedy.

"Thank you, Dan Heng. I love it. It's exceptional."
At the words spoken by Dan Heng, she chuckles and gives him an encouraging smile.
"Well, the fact that you seemingly got the general knowledge of my measurements is quite astonishing. I doubt we'll need much alteration, but let me try it on before saying anything," Zarina shows her excitement over trying this dres by turning on her heels to look back at the dress and gently touch the fabric. Another hum of approval is heard from her before she glances at Dan Heng. "Could you call for the owner's helper? She's outside. Tell her I need help with putting it on. I'll call you back when I'm done putting it on."
As she watches the young man go and the door closes behind him, Zarina's smile falters ever so lightly. Her melancholy returns as she remembers the faceless people who got excited over crafting her a dress. Was it her adopted son or her adopted daughter that was excited to gift her another outfit? Or was it someone who tried to win her favor? Memory was becoming hazier of those bygone days. However, at this moment, she is glad to remember this and to have this gift to remind her of today.
The best present is not material; it's the memory that keeps her here and today.
"Thank you, Dan Heng," she whispers again, closing her eyes and letting out a soft breathe. "I wonder how many we'll spend together..."
But first, she needs to put this dress on and show it to him.

The Untamed costumes 26/?
Jiang Fengmian's outfits 1: the dark blue (semi-)formal robe set (episodes 7 and 8)
This post has been a long time coming, because this outfit has given me quite a bit of trouble: it is as complex as it is gorgeous, it is only seen in a handful of scenes, and I have not managed to get good screenshots of many of it's features 🙁. So I am even less sure that usual that I have managed to figure this one out, but let's see what we can, and take a look at the first of Jiang Fengmian's two sets of robes: the dark blue set he wears for his visit to Cloud Recesses in episodes 7 and 8.
This set is (as far as I can tell) perhaps the most formal of the outfits I've looked at so far, and has four layers, as far as I can tell:
Undergarments / inner layer: the zhongyi (中衣) or zhongdan (中單) (the pants and the shirt), and the chang (裳) (a separate, typically pleated skirt). Dark blue.
A middle layer? skirt in golden brown.
An middle layer robe in dark blue.
An indigo blue zhaoshan 罩衫 (a long, open outer garment) as the outer layer.
I have usually tried to kick these posts off with at least a 3/4-view of the outfit, but I want to start easy here and try to take this bit by bit, so let's start with this 😅.

So yes, the collar of the shirt of the inner layer is nicely visible here and it is dark blue. And that is actually the only visible part of the inner layer (undergarments), so I am only assuming he's also wearing dark blue trousers (pretty sure of that) and a dark blue chang, the pleated undergarment skirt (less sure of that, but let's get back to that in a bit).
A couple of other things of note in the picture above: the nice pattern on his dark blue middle layer robe and it's navy blue trimmings; the light greyish-lavender features which I first thought might be the edging of a "second middle layer" robe, but probably isn't (let's get back to that in a bit, too); his signature white jade hair-stick and the white jade and silver guan with the stone (which, as far as I can tell might be kyanite, but I'm far from sure) and the black gauze ornament.

A nice side view of the gauze hair ornament and the guan, which is tied in place with a blue ribbon.
The lapels of the indigo blue zhaoshan have three pleats, and the fabric has a random, non-repeating texture.
About the light greyish-lavender features I mentioned above: looking at the picture above, it looks like the outer edge (the one towards the viewer) doesn't attach to anything. This is why I think they are not the trimmings of a "second middle layer robe", but just a loose, decorative strip of fabric worn over the dark blue robe, but I could be wrong, as usual 😅.

The outfit is partially hidden by the lovely pénjǐng-trees in the picture above, but what is perhaps the most distinctive feature of it, the gorgeous bixi (蔽膝, a long narrow cloth panel hanging at the front, attached at the waist) is clearly visible. The bixi is decorated with patterns (symbols?) very similar in style to those on the front panels of Jiang Cheng's aqua blue robe.
It can also be seen that the greyish-lavender strips (ribbons?) reach all the way down to the hem of his robes, nicely framing the bixi.

The sash has two layers. The inner, broader layer is of light brown fabric, which has a somehow metallic sheen and a texture resembling basket weave, perhaps. The outer layer is of the same smoke blue (?) fabric as the bixi, with matching patterns/symbols and a narrow edging in black.
It is perhaps good to mention here, even if it's better visible in some of the following pictures, that the bixi is also two-layered, with a slightly larger and longer panel of the light brown fabric underlying the blue panel (see the picture below). Similar to the sash, the blue panel has black edging.

In addition to the two-layered bixi, two things need to be pointed out from the picture above. First, the fabric of the indigo blue zhaoshan is sheer, which is visible here at the hem. Second, Jiang Fengmian is wearing a dark golden brown, patterned skirt under the dark blue robe, visible below the bixi.

This is the best view of the brown skirt I have managed to capture; unfortunately, it is not properly in focus as he is in motion. It can be seen that the fabric has some kind of a pattern, and it looks like the skirt might be pleated. I have listed the skirt as an extra middle layer as the fabric looks to be quite rich (damask, maybe), not something that would be worn as an undergarment, which tend to be simple, unpatterned silk (unless you happen to be Lan Wangji). But I do not know if he is also wearing a separate chang (undergarment skirt, which would most likely be dark blue) underneath the brown skirt.
And yes, both the dark blue robe and the zhaoshan have slits at the sides.

I love how the layers are spread out in the pictures above. You can zoom in and try to see if I missed anything 🙂. Also, the pattern on the zhaoshan is beautifully visible in the upper one.

So, I think that with the fantastic bixi and the layers, this is a rather formal outfit (at least in the CQLverse), fit for a sect leader. And I guess a bit of formality is only appropriate, considering the reason for Jiang Fengmian's visit to Cloud Recesses.

A loud grunt as back meets chest follows the sharp sound of a metal blade slipping onto the stone floor of the training hall. They both pant, the prince and his companion, as the former disarms the latter and now has his weapon held against the pale throat. The position is not threatening; the prince is careful to hover his blade far enough from fragile skin. What he does, though, is to push his body closer to the boy in front of him, leaning so that his lips graze the other's ear.
The prince breathes, slightly ragged, "Do you yield?"
His companion snorts inelegantly, hands around the sweaty arm holding the weapon upon him. "Yes, my prince," he says, catching his breath and feeling the prince doing the same behind him. "I yield for the tenth time in a row."
The prince laughs, releasing his companion then. He bends to pick the fallen sword, offering it back to the other boy. "Again?"
The other boy, sweating profusely and visibly exhausted, shakes his head. He takes the sword from the prince, walks to the side, and drops down on the floor instead. He wipes at his forehead with the baggy sleeve of his white shirt, and looks up at the amusement in the prince's rich blue eyes. "I don't understand why you insist on sparring with me, my prince," he starts, "I am not a knight, nor am I trained for physical brutality, and therefore can't be a challenging sport."
The prince gives a small laugh; his face flushed and unrestricted. He makes for the weapon stand, his steps echoing in the near emptiness of the spacious hall. He slides the sword in its sheath with the grace of someone who has done it so many times. "I much prefer the company of my dearest friend than anybody else at this moment," he tells his companion.
The latter appears taken aback by the statement, his brown eyes widening a small fraction, but he quickly shields it by inclining his head, "Well, no matter," he replies, clearing his throat. "I'm certain the guards are searching the castle now for you, my prince. You were supposed to be fitting dresses and practicing waltz. The ball is in a fortnight."
The prince groans in a manner that he can't do in public. He walks back to his companion, folding his sleeves up to his elbows and loosening the laces of his collar, exposing a sliver of his tanned chest. The prince inwardly preens in satisfaction as he catches his companion averting his eyes, cheeks red-tinged. He stands before the boy: his sworn companion since they had been children, the one closest to his heart.
Casually, he bows, extending his hand in silent invitation.
His companion startles, raising a questioning glance. He stammers, "Your majesty, what is this?"
The prince smiles, "Stiles," he says gently, "It is only us. Call me Theo,"
Theo sees him hesitate, "Theo," Stiles's voice is low, as if afraid that somebody might witness a disrespectful act and hang him for it. "What-"
"Dance with me," Theo announces the request, interrupting his question.
Surprise covers Stiles's expression once more, but he isn't quick to overcome this time. He openly gapes at the prince in disbelief. Stiles stutters for a moment, words escaping him. Theo prides himself on being the only person in the castle to achieve so. 
Stiles is naturally quick-witted and usually masters a look of impassivity and control, as he is training to be Theo's diplomatic representative for when the prince rises to the throne. But Theo always manages to fluster him, the same way Stiles is the only one to make the prince's heartbeat race in his chest and lull it to calmness. Some might argue that it is deep kinship as they grew up together. Theo recognizes it is much more - even, that it has nowhere to go.
But he will steal moments that he can.
Finally, Stiles settles with a weak reply, "There is no music,"
Theo arches a thick dark brow, "Isn't there?"
Stiles stares at him, watching Theo's face for something. The prince stays in position, waiting patiently, as they have both waited for this moment of admission. With hesitation at first, then with more certainty, Stiles reaches and takes Theo's proffered hand.
Theo pulls him up and maneuvers them to the middle of the room. The hall is reserved for recreation, most commonly by Theo himself. It is the room where he spends hours practicing his fighting stance with the best knights in the castle, or just by himself. There is not much furniture in the room aside from decorative mantelpieces and portraits of his late ancestors. There is a furnace and a carpet with a chair and table on it on one wall. A few statues scatter the sides, and finally, the weapons stand. Almost the entire floor is bare. And now, Theo and his beloved companion stand in it, holding each other the way they can't outside of these walls. 
There's a slight wildness reflected in Stiles's light brown eyes, and the little hitch in his breath tells Theo that he is not alone in his desire. Although Stiles peeks small glances behind Theo's shoulder, making sure that the doors are still closed, his long fingers stay firm within Theo's grasp.
Theo's eyes follow the way Stiles wets his lips, and he doesn't bother concealing it. When their gazes meet, Stiles drags another puff of breath, and Theo is transfixed. Stiles looks stunning, even when he is confused. He is the only man Theo will ever call beautiful. 
The prince lets go of Stiles's hand to slide both of his arms around his companion's waist and press their bodies together, faces inches apart from one another.
A nervous laugh escapes Stiles's mouth, and he attempts to school his features that of steady and unaffected. "If I didn't know any better, my prince," Stiles tells him, not correcting himself for using the courtesy address. Theo doesn't mind since he doesn't think Stiles has said it for politeness at all. "I'd think this is only a ploy to touch me and pull my body close to yours until there is no space between us."
Theo tightens his embrace, leaning so that their foreheads touch -the intimacy that Theo knows he will only ever share with Stiles, and not even with his future queen.
"If I confirm that it is indeed my intention," Theo says, almost breathless at their proximity and the fact that Stiles is allowing it and not running away in fear. He rubs the tips of their noses together, closing his eyes momentarily as they both sigh at the contact, before rearing back to meet Stiles's now darkened eyes. "Would you hold it against me?"
Stiles's response is yes and no.

He's smiling slightly, looking at the viewer with his dot eyes. His ears are slightly bigger than the other characters' thus being quite visible, in fact his red and white mushroom earrings can be seen. He's wearing a white collared t-shirt with a green wool vest, on it there's a ladybug pin. Underneath him is written his name "Archie" and in a smaller font a description of him that says "Scottish boi into cottagecore, still dreaming of that #cottagelife, likes nature, sewing, and yes he likes my little pony. He's the fatherly typ and he's pretty scary. Done with your shit".
Third one is Milo, he's mostly made by round yet defined shapes. they're a non-binary. They have white skin but slightly tanned with a few red spot since they have eczma, they have brown hair and eyes, both have a redish hue. They've got a grey collar which is much more similar to the ones dogs and cats have, it has a star pendant. His t-shirt is dark grey and on it is drawn a pentacle (not to be confused with the pentagram). Underneath their t-shirt there's a striped long sleeved shirt, with white and black stripes. Milo in the drawing is looking at his right with a cheeky smile. Underneath them their name is written "Milo" and in a smaller font there's a description "pegan enby, going through a goth phase rn, likes supernatural shit and vampire simp, no one knows their tiktok".
Lastly there's Codrin, mostly made from sharp shapes. He's a very light skinned dude, with very light blond long hair since he has albinism. His eyes are relaxed looking to the right, his left eye is a desaturated purple and his left one is desaturated blue. His mouth is open, showing some visible fangs. Overall his expression is an unamused one. He has a black shirt with a red square on in, in the square "smile" is written. He's wearing a grey hoodie that reveals his shoulders. Underneath them their name is written "Codrin" and in a smaller font there's a description "Romanian bastard who likes sticking his nose where it isn't supposed to, like dark web or ttc research, has no chill and eats goldfish 24/7" END IMAGE ID]

Mostly similar to his father, Vert. Having pale skin, and blue (kind of greenish) eyes. His hair is short, curly, and slightly pale blonde, with two strands on the sides of his head that are hard as a rock and unbendable, the roots coloured red as well.
His body is on the slim side, but still lean. The only parts that of a Red Sentient are his hands and knees down to the feet.
Avel wears a white turtleneck sweater with black stripes, collar and hems. A red vest that has gold trims and buttons. Three straps of brown leather on his wrists, and black, durable, leather gloves. His pants is made out of the same material as his gloves and tucked into a pair of boots with metal tips and soles.
Underneath all of these clothings, is a necklace with a silver moth pendant with rubies inlaid into the eyes and garnet on the wings.
How he was conceived?:
Before anyone asks, NO he wasn't a product of Mpreg.
Avel was born in a battlezone that held a machine that could mix any two species into a hybrid that would reside in an egg until it will hatch into a healthy baby.
The device has been inactive for eons now, until Battle Force 5 and the Reds arrived and started driving around the curved "Roads" around it. The kinetic energy of the cars soon powered the device one last time, tendrils came out and sucked some of the blood of BF5 and energy from the Reds.
The Reds' shells were shattered while BF5 had to retreat.
What was left in the machine, were five eggs in the size of an ostrich's egg. All of them floating in tubes filled with liquid.
Eventually, the eggs are taken by BF5 when Sage gets a energy signature that resembles that of a Sentient. After two weeks, it was discovered that the eggs had energy signature similar to that of the Red Sentients, and the BF5. It was decided that the best course of action is to put them in cyrostasis since most of the BF5 aren't exactly ready to become parents yet.
Unfortunately, the eggs were hatched sooner than thought.
Three Years later, during the fight against the Ancient Ones, the Hub was nearly destroyed and the eggs were later being transported to the Red Sentient Planet by BF5 and RS5 (Who were released from being frozen due to their help being wanted.)
Along the way, the eggs were starting to hatch with no way of stopping. By the time both teams already in the planet, all of the eggs have already hatched. Cries of six hybrid babies filed the air as their stunned parents look upon them.
Afterwards, when the Ancient Ones havr been defeated, both teams, Sage, and Jack Wheeler come discuss what should be done about the children. The suggestion of putting them in an orphanage was out, be it in Earth or in the Sentient Planets (Kyburi especially was against it).
While it was reluctant, it was decided that the both parents shall be present to raise their child. With Krytus and his team gaining the chance to redeem themselves while in parole. Both parents will get half of each each human month to spend time with their children.
Personality:
Avel can be rather passionate about his feelings. His emotions clear on his face, especially when he's feeling happy, sad, or angry. Eyes shining through with his emotions, nearly lighting up even.
He is also very determined to complete any tasks or goals he has been given. There few things that would make him back down from doing them, and usually its his dads that stop him from doing something stupid and dangerous.
Also a good strategist. Often taking note of the terrain around him, how it will affect ones movement, the visible weaknesses of his opponents and what visible weaknesses he has to cover up.
However, he would be a better strategist if he wasn't so arrogant. Avel brags about his achievements a lot to his fellow hybrids, along with trying to prove himself to others by doing dangerous stunts.
He is also quite the lone wolf. Often going off on his own during mission, thinking that he can handle it himself and that his team can just relax and watch him. This has led him into getting in a lot of trouble, yet he still does it.
Avel can be rather paranoid at times. Usually having a lot of knives on his body and even hair. The four posts of his bed even have retractable swords in them incase of an attack.
He has some insecurity about his abilities and not being able to create a vehicle compared to other pure Sentients. His attempts to impress everyone and prove himself stemmed from this insecurity.
Avel absolutely adores and looks up to both his fathers. Thinking that they're one of the greatest beings in the Multiverse. He has a positive relationship with both of them, spending enough time with both of them. Krytus is more of the stricter parent, usually telling Avel hunting and survival tips along with telling him a few tales during the Red's Youth. While Vert is more the relaxed parent, helping Avel with his vehicle and teaching him being a leader should be.
He wants to make them proud of him someday. Avel sometime feels like he isn't living up to standards, with both of his dads being famous in the Multiverse. Vert Wheeler, the hero of the Multiverse, and despite Krytus' infamous status, it's still well known how strategic he is, especially during the battle of the Ancient Ones.
Abilities:
Fire Manipulation: Capable of setting parts of his body on fire and controlling it. Avel can create waves, concentrated blast, and even melt thick steel if he can concentrate hard enough. But he cannot use this for too long, his body would start to heat up and make him tired before inevitable causing him to faint from exhaustion.
Claws: His fingers can turn into sharp knives if needed.
Heat Resistance: Avel can stand the heat, even if it is in extreme conditions.
Skills:
Sword Combat: With both of his dads skilled at the swords, it was obvious that Avel would be taught how to handle it and how to fight with it. His sword can split into two, thinner ones for greater range and can be set on fire as well.
Flexibility: Avel was born rather flexible, and has been honing it for a long time.
Vehicle:
The Acrotract:
A vehicle that has two modes. One mode is a rather simple looking, red and black, skateboard. The skateboard is used for missions that require stealth. The second mode is a long, slender, vehicle, shaped like a sleeping pod and a pair of scissors were mixed together. It can fire sharp missiles in rapid succession, let out oil slick from the back, can be driven upside down (much like the Saber), and can seperate into three, connected segments that could trap opponents, or make tall objects fall onto them.

A Faint Pale Rainbow

Characters: Dazai, Mori, Chuuya, Odasaku, Ango, Kunikida, Atsushi.
Pairings: None.
Summary: Most people by the age of fifteen have even just one person who brings colour into their life. Some have more. Dazai, however, sees nothing but black, white, and the many shades of grey in between.
Until he doesn't.
Warnings: Dazai-typical suicide references. Some spoilers for S3.1 and the FIFTEEN novel, if you haven’t gone through either of those yet.

When Dazai first came into the world, up until he first heard of the adults around him talking of soulmates and those important few who bring colour to your life, when he understood what those words meant... he had honestly thought that everyone saw in black and white.
He looked at his mother, in her long pale grey dresses and her dark grey hair, and his father, with his black suits and his black hair, and realised at a young age that for him at least, the world was just as distant and monotone as the photographs that he heard people talk about, that came before colour, that those who could see said were more than simply grainy, but also lacking in life. 
"It's like seeing before, well, you know," he heard one woman say. 
Dazai didn't know, and likewise didn't look up from his reading. 
The words on the page, at least, were supposed to be in black and white.
...
(The blood splatters grey against the wall, and he knows that eventually it will fade to black, unless it is washed clean, and even then the stains may remain.
He stares. It isn't as though the colour of blood is any different to the colour of anything else, so there is no need, no reason, to feel uncomfortable with the sight.
But still.
Even one such as he, who can only see in black and white and grey, can still serve as a witness, and that is all that Mori requires.)
...
Mori doesn't grant him colour, but he does offer something Dazai wants, and there is so little that he does want, that he could possibly look forward to, in this world that he has been excluded from being a part of, that although he complains he walks over to the man, and takes the Silver Message.
It looks pale, the silver shimmering enough that he knows that even those who can see colour, see it shine. 
The writing, however, is black... rather than the blue ink that should have come out of the pen.
(Whatever, he wonders, blue might look like.
Later, he will idly wonder which sort of colour Mori would have brought into his life, with the amount of influence the man had over him, for so long.
Black, he will decide, because Mori did his best to paint Dazai's life black, and keep him in the darkness. And yet, you cannot start to see black when black-grey-white is all you have ever known.)

He barely registers the impact as a kick until he's been thrown several feet and he has a foot on his stomach.
It hurts, and that irritates him, for several reasons - one being that he wanted his death to be painless, and another being that Mori had said that the mission wouldn't be dangerous, and yet, here he was, the wound over his eye bleeding through his bandages again.
He glares, as best someone who can barely feel the anger with which to glare can, because of the pain and because of the brat's attitude, this Nakahara Chuuya, and then he's having to force himself to move past the familiar protests of his stomach, as Hirotsu is meeting his match in a kid, albeit one who has apparently earned the title "King of the Sheep."
He touches Chuuya's neck, mildly fascinated on a distant level by how warm the boy runs, before being - again, frustratingly, because it hurt - kicked away in order for Chuuya to free himself to resume the offence.
Something about watching the scene take place, makes the world seem more intense, enough so that when something changes - something not the same, greyscale power exploding outward from a single source that he can now bear witness to Mori for - his eyes widen in shock, and then in disbelief, before being unable to focus on anything of the sort, with how the explosion is throwing him back again, along with debris, and the next time he opens his eyes (which, he heaves a sigh of disappointment over) it's to Hirotsu, who pulls him up, having already called for a retrieval squad.

It comes in slowly, and the more he thinks over it, the more of an effect it has.
At first, just barely there, the palest tones and the darkest shades, only just visible through the corner of his eye. 
Even so, it's enough to make Dazai pause, and it's enough to make him stare at his eye and his old bandages as they're taken off. The blood, which is supposed to be mid-grey and black, can no longer be called such. Something else is there, that he can't name, doesn't want to, isn't sure he can - because he isn't supposed to, not someone like him.
He stares at the addition to his world and he wonders how long it will last, how strong, or if one slight exposure will leave him with a hint of something he could almost grasp at for the rest of his life, and never the full vibrance that others speak of.
...
He walks into Mori's office in the Port Mafia headquarters with his arm in a sling, fresh bandages over his eye and his other arm, and cannot help but have his gaze fall on the boy he'd faced off against just the previous day.
It's there, again. 
Barely, but it's there. 
Chuuya's hair isn't the pale grey that he remembers it first being, lighter in shade than he (by now, only just) remembers his mother's, but... something else. The same something else that he can see jumping out at him from underneath the black (and with that amount of darkness, it can't be anything else) jacket.
The same that was slowly seeping into the very room, into the tones of the floor and Mori's chair and the scarf around Mori's neck that denoted his status as boss of the mafia.
Mori, whose eyes narrowed in a hint of a smile that Dazai pretended not to have seen.
"You two seem to have hit it off, having known each other just for a day," Mori says, and it makes Dazai react before he realises that he's reacting, because really - him, and that brat?
Perhaps if by "hit it off" Mori meant "Chuuya enjoys pushing him to a state of annoyance," but anything more positive than that was out of the question, colour or no colour, and by the sounds of things, the boy, this King of the Sheep, felt much the same way.
The blackouts that fully covered one side of the room opened, giving them a full view of Yokohama in full daylight. Dazai could still feel the brightness, still feel the harsh blinding light of the sun, even if he could not see anything other than a pale, off-white grey for the sky.
Blue... ah, I wonder what that looks like, he found himself thinking, as Mori explained just how bad the situation was, dragged out of his thoughts only when the word Arahabaki came up, and when Mori said that he would be working with Chuuya-
The reaction, a denial, came first. 
Perhaps he was curious - perhaps he wanted to keep the colour that he could now see, but to work with Chuuya, when there was absolutely no way-
He let his opinion on that be heard.
And then, to be called a kid in that tone of voice, by someone shorter than him, Chuuya looked like if it weren't for various things suggesting otherwise, he might even be several years younger rather than somehow being the same age.
The light streaming in through the windows both bleached everything white and silhouetted everything into deep shades of black. The moment they were released to start their investigation, when the blinds went down again and the room went dark, Dazai tiredly cursed his inability to see even the slightest thing, and that it would take even longer after yesterday for his eye to heal, so that he would be able to see with both eyes.
It doesn't take long, however - merely halfway down the building, bickering as they go, eyes staring after them as Dazai mostly makes futile attempts to ignore Chuuya and not give in to the attempts to rile up the emotions that he doesn't even truly have.
By the time they're outside and blinking again in the broad daylight, he can see that Chuuya's hair is a bright and vibrant red.
The colours, it seems, don't appear to care whether the relationship that one shares is one that is enjoyed or not. 
Then again, perhaps that is simply one more thing that makes him stand out, a stranger in the crowd.
...
Red stays with him, and he will look back on his first few days and weeks and wonder how he had seen such a colour as vibrant, because the longer he lives, the deeper the colours become.
Deep, and dark, and pale and pastel. All of the various forms of red.
At least, he realises not long after his own revelation, he isn't alone. Chuuya himself seems to find the sky particularly fascinating, for someone whose domain is gravity itself.
Dazai doesn't even notice when he starts to look forward to the colour of red rising to Chuuya's cheeks as the other boy bites back with anger at whatever jab or jibe or insult Dazai has come up with this time.
A measuring stick, a picture book of Issun-boshi, a collar for a sheep-dog, a microscope.
He both loves and hates the colour red, loves it in the way that it adds depth to the world, the way that something other than black-white-grey exists, hates it in the way that it still doesn't give him any of the answers he has been searching for, the way that blood now has a colour and he still feels nothing.
(Hates it, in the way that he can see the colour red cover Chuuya's skin when he enters Corruption, both the glowing marks that were the sign of an ability born of no human origin, and the crimson colour that gathers at Chuuya's fingertips, dripping down onto the ground, falls from his eyes and his mouth.
Chuuya is full of fire, warm and burning and red, and yet in Corruption he burns like a pyre, up in flames and with the threat of becoming only embers.)

His first hint of a new colour arrives when he meets Oda Sakunosuke, his own fascination with the strangest man in the mafia causing grey to turn into brown, and he spends a good several hours staring in the mirror when he first realises, because for the very first time, he can see the colour of his hair, the colour of his eyes, making him wonder why all everyone has ever said to do with the colour brown is that it's boring.
How can it be boring, he wonders? When it shows him things such as this?
...
Ango comes in via sepia, and at first makes Dazai think of the yellowed pages of old tomes and volumes and parchments, which is fitting for someone like him who spends all of his time among records rather than people.
His first guess is the fact that the lamp that's turned on in the small room Ango uses is too bright and light to be brown, and not quite right for red either, and yet isn't quite grey.
He had almost forgotten that there were further shades that he might be exposed to, and is delighted when further experimentation, poking and prodding at the potential connection, deepens the shades of yellow.
He finds it funny, at the time, wondering why Ango might elicit such a bright shade that shows Dazai things such as sunlight and sunflowers-
Until he loses Odasaku, and loses Ango in the process, or might as well have, and the browns that he had once seen so clearly turn to faded, muted versions of their past selves, and the next time he see the emblem of the Japanese government, its bright and cheery yellow sunflower form, there is a part of him that wants to tear it down and destroy it, to tear out his eyes to stop seeing yellow, to somehow, as if it were possible, exchange the unwanted colour in order for the full shades of brown to return.
He does not, and the yellow persists, and the browns in their full glory never return, even when he finds a coat the closest shade to Odasaku's as he could find, the lighter slacks, the darker waistcoat over a grey shirt.
...
He spends two years underground, somehow evading the eyes of those who would recognise him, and the world stays the same, with no new colours. 
His reds never fade, despite the bomb he placed under Chuuya's car, and he never stops seeing gold in the sunlight, in the flowers, in the jewellery of married men and beautiful women.
Sepia-and-red is a decent existence, he supposes, as he stares at the flowers someone has left at another grave. 
...
The first time he sees the colour green, Dazai isn't even paying attention, and blinks at the dim tone before going back to setting his mind on the case at hand, and questioning just what was going on-
As well as how not to let Kunikida onto the fact that he knew more than he was showing, or the very fact that he could see green now.
The next time they're walking along, he stares at the scenery, and wonders if this is what spring is like, because green is suddenly appearing everywhere, so much grass and so many leaves and the colour of Kunikida's notebook.
It... hurts, somewhat, and he can't figure out why, so he distracts himself with making fun of the way Kunikida was so gullible, and the way he made assumptions about things he shouldn't, and with coming up with new ways to waste his notebook paper with useless words full of lies and tricks, and-
"The sky is still blue," Kunikida says, and Dazai stops, remembering the way that brown had faded to sepia tones, and the fact that he could still see red in the bricks of the building they were in front of, and the way that the yellow never fading meant that he could see the blond of Kunikida's hair.
"Is it?" Dazai asks, because that is one shade that he never has been able to see, the sky stretching out into grey eternity.
He doesn't ask which one Kunikida means. The woman, or the child. Perhaps it doesn't even matter.
Green, after all... the cover of that notebook. The ushering in of new life, something that was almost alien to someone such as Dazai himself, who was only barely beginning to start to learn how to live as Odasaku had wanted of him, saving people... protecting the orphans.
Kunikida snorts. Doubtless making the assumption (incorrect again, in this case) that Dazai, for all his insistence at being a part of the Agency, for all that he was good at being a detective, must have never had anyone he held in such high regard.
...
One minute he's floating in the darkness, supposing that if this should work it wouldn't be a bad way to die, and the next he's waking up on the shore.
He groans, at first, irritated and not bothered about hiding it, but then he sees the boy in what constitutes as nothing more than rags, who has clearly dredged him out of the river, and who is clearly starving, and he blinks, slowly, before explaining himself and offering recompense for the boy's troubles.
He knows enough of red and yellow and brown to see that the tiger facing him is white, the black stripes stark against the pale fur, eyes glaring yellow, and he knows enough of himself that of all things, this too cannot kill him.
The moon shines down into the warehouse, and for a moment all he can see is monotone greyscale, and the memory of what he lived with for fifteen years makes his eyes go dark-
-until the others come in, and he's reminded of the fact that even if there are moments when the colours cannot be seen, they're never truly gone. Even his browns are never truly gone, just faded.
It's easier, he finds, to say that he will take the boy in and suggest him for the Agency, than to put that plan in practice. Not because of any difficulties with the others, or because Atsushi himself is difficult, per se...
But Atsushi looks at him strangely, and keeps his eyes widely staring at each new thing in a way that Dazai recognises, and he remembers Odasaku's words, and wonders if this is enough, if this is the start of something he can look his memory of the man in the eye for, and say, see, I haven't given up, I'm still trying.
It's a gradual process, he discovers, and it comes through slowly. At first, barely visible, and then, eventually, all around him, and he finds himself unable to care as Kunikida yells at him for lazing around, lying on his back in the park and staring up at the sky.
The blue sky. So very, very blue.
...
He's a little disappointed, when he walks into the office and no one seems to have been worried at all, so he kicks up a fuss, causing Kunikida to throw something at him (which misses, and nearly hits someone else).
Atsushi later admits that no matter what he had been going through, he'd never been able to worry too much about Dazai himself... not because he wasn't concerned for his mentor's safety, but because no matter what had happened, he'd never stopped being able to see the colour brown.
He doesn't know what to say, to that, so he just nods mutely, hands crossed in front of his face, remembering a time when he, too, had been able to see all shades of brown, and wonders - is that how Atsushi sees me?
He wonders, How do I live up to this?
