The appearance of your reflection in the glass of the exhibit tells you that your cheeks are very flushed. You could feel the heat in your face since you began wandering the art gallery with Minnie, and you could only hope she stayed oblivious to the truth: that you were hopelessly in love with your closest friend. You take a glimpse at her now. She seems intensely focused on the painting before her, so you wander off to the next room.
There is more glass that allows you to tidy your hair and adjust your outfit, but the longer you stare at your reflection the more impossible it feels to make yourself look presentable. You sigh and attempt to admire the artwork, but your thoughts are lingering on Minnie the whole time.
“y/n,” Minnie’s voice rings out from behind, then you turn to face her, “Smile, beautiful.”
Smiling comes on instinct when you are looking at Minnie, but it only widens at her command. She lowers her phone and inspects the screen.
“It turned out really good! Do you want to see it?”
“Oh! A photo? Yes, please.”
You are immediately embarrassed when she shows you. Your smile is toothy and wide. Your cheeks are rosy and your eyes are creased with delight. You begin to notice the imperfections. Like the stray hairs that will not settle, and that your shirt has come awkwardly untucked.
“I look weird.”
“What? No, it’s perfect. You look adorable.”
“Let me take one.”
Minnie hands you her phone and you trade places. She poses easily, and gives you her best angle as she waits for you to line up the shot. You snap a few photos then check them the same way she had. You shuffle forward, not looking up from her dazzling smile as you approach to show her the phone screen. You make a soft sound and your eyes widen as you stumble into her arms.
“S-Sorry.”
“You’re good, darling.”
You duck your head as she drapes her arms over your shoulders and inspects the photos. Each one is perfect, although Minnie always looks flawless.
“Pretty…”
“Not as pretty as you.”
She looks proud of her statement as you flail for an argument. She giggles then takes her phone out of your hand as you playfully push her in protest.
“Don’t tease me!”
“It’s true, just look at yourself.”
“Noo!”
“I have photo evidence!”
“Delete them!”
“I’m not doing that!”
“Minnie!”
“Excuse me.”
You both pause then turn around. One of the gallery attendants is standing behind you, hands neatly folded in front of her black uniform as she regards the two of you calmly.
“Would you two like a photo together? I can take it for you?”
“Yes, thank you,” Minnie answers, separating from you to hand her phone to the staff.
You fluster again when Minnie returns to you, because she immediately wedges herself back into your arms and pulls you close by your waist. Your cheeks are burning, and you feel your heart racing as you try to make yourself pose as naturally as possible. You both turn to the camera and you offer a small smile.
“Remember,” Minnie whispers, “Smile, beautiful.”
You laugh and beam as the photo is taken. Minnie steps forward to take her phone, and you are still a little dazed when the staff member speaks.
“You two are such a cute couple.”
Your words feel caught in your throat as you wait for Minnie’s response.
“Thank you!”
The attendant wishes you both well then departs, leaving you a little dumbstruck as Minnie casually checks the photos with a soft smile.
“They’re perfect. Come see.”
“M-Minnie…”
“Hm?”
She returns to you, takes your hands as you fiddle your fingers and anxiously avoid her gaze.
“Sh-She called us a couple.”
“Mhm, I know.”
“Oh.”
She tilts her head and frowns softly.
“Are you okay?”
“It’s just… I like you a lot…”
“I know.”
“N-No, I like you.”
“y/n, I know. I like you too.”
You finally meet her eyes and melt at the warmth in her gaze as she pulls you into her embrace.
“You do?”
She giggles.
“I thought it was obvious. I guess I shouldn’t assume I know everything you’re thinking. I just thought that this was… a date?”
“A date.”
“With my… girlfriend.”
You nod.
“Girlfriend.”
She grins.
“I know you’ve liked me for a while. I feel the same way.”
“Then, can I ask you…”
“To be your girlfriend?”
You nod eagerly, making her giggle. She watches expectantly as you take a deep breath.
“Minnie, will you be my girlfriend?”
“Only if you’ll be mine?”
You nod and grin as she leans in to peck your nose.
“Then, yes, it’s official.”
You let her take your hand and intertwine your fingers as you continue your first- official- date at the gallery.

*inhale* ah boy here we go! Another year of development comes and goes, and we’re on the 7th year.. Man, can’t believe it’s been 7 years since I started this game. My 20′s passed by like so haha.. So, after overhauls, and overhauls, and events that has caused me to not just lose motivation, but burn myself out to the point of avoiding working on my game for a period of time, I finally sat my ass down and reworked the game from scratch. And while I did say that I was going to maybe release the new demo either on the anniversary, or by the end of the year, I surprisingly exceeded my own expectations and finished the demo 1 day before the anniversary. That includes fixing bugs, raging over the missed bugs, raging with my friend over the missed bugs and telling them via vc how to fix them so we can proceed further, changing events, adding/removing stuff.. the pain of a game developer! *pensive* You know.. The good shit that game devs must do to ensure that the game is.. a little bit flawless, and in my case, as bug-free as possible.. unless we have a repeat of the infamous update 2... *shivers*
Introduction
So, without further ado and without going on a soppy bawling spree about how game development is hard and how drama is fucking annoying, here it is, in all it’s glory! The new version, and essentially the new demo, of Borderline! It took time to re-write the entire thing from scratch, which meant overhauling not just the story, but events and characters, the whole 9 yards just to make it as off-esque as possible, while keeping some originality in it! I did try my best, as this is a passion project that got quite big and I got too attached to it to abandon it like so, but I managed to get help for my game, even if it is a miniscule amount of people who went out their way, and even took their sweet time, to help me progress the game further and get to this final point. Even if it’s still in it’s demo phases, I still managed to get this far.. And I’m glad I did! I got a little bit more serious than I was with Ultimatum, and my writing got a little bit better with years so I can use my own project as a learning experience for future projects.. To get to the point, this is the new, final demo of the new version of the game. I will leave a link to the old version as well, as means of comparison and to showcase how far I have gotten, achieved and lost as a game developer.

I have included a couple things here, I didn’t include much without spoiling too much!

The future
Currently the plan as of now is to take a little break from development and try out new things I guess.. I still have to search for a job, wait to get a hard drive for my computer so I can kickstart my tutorial channel, and just.. live a little.. My depression has been beating my ass for the past month, but I’ve been managing I guess. So for now, the game is in a state of hiatus. I will upload patches here and there (with new art and assets and occasional bug fixes and what not), but that would be it for the most part. Doesn’t mean that I am quitting the game, it just means that I need a long break, I’ve hyper focused so much on the game for the past 7 years that my life began to revolve around the game and nothing more.. I’ve been breaking out the mold a little and expanding my horizons, I deserved this break, dammit!!!
Thanks
I have a lot of people I’d like to thank here.
@wolftheidioticfan - I remember when you were making Search, you were one of the people that inspired me to kickstart my own game. You one day offered your compositions for my game, and I accepted it. You then offered to help me design some monsters for my game, and from there, I would occasionally ask you for some assistance making puzzles and what not! Over time, we became good friends! I’d like to think you’re a really close friend of mine, and I thank you for taking the time patience to help me with my game and make it flourish!
@chimakiisane - Had you not inserted yourself into my life, or even my game, God knows what my game would end up becoming. You gave me really helpful, constructive feedback, even if you constantly said: “you don’t have to take it if you don’t want to”, but I still took them because I could tell that you wanted my game to succeed! You even offered your help in making really gucci assets for me! And I love it! You were very patient with me despite all the troubles you endured in your life.. Thank you for being that blessing!
@oreo-brain You just suddenly appeared, out of nowhere, drawing that gucci ass fanart that I saw when I was going home in the bus and I tried my best not to make noises when I saw them through my phone!!! And then I gave you a new version of the game to try out and you entered my rabbit hole! mwahahha Ok ok that may have not been intentional, but when I heard you say that my fangame impacted you in a positive way, I smiled a wide smile! You motivated me to work on my game again when I was stuck in a rut, and unexpectedly made progress within a few months! You even took part in testing out my fangame for bugs, and we both raged in the vc the other day when we were doing final testing for the game! You are a blessing in disguise that I needed to kickstart my passion again.
@thejudge - I personally did not know you, only through the word of mouth of the people who knew you before your sudden passing, who had said a lot of positive things about you. Your fangame was among the first fangames that I had played, and that made me want to give game development a chance. It took time to learn the basics of the program, but I was stubborn and didn’t give up haha. Thank you for inspiring me and everyone in the community. You are, even after half a decade, missed dearly. I hope to strive to be like you and walk in your footsteps; to be an inspiration to the new-gen developers who want to try game development as well.
To the people from my own server, and Chii’s server, I thank you for your time and help!
And that’s it..
What to expect in the game
I’ll keep this part short, there are still some stuff that needs to be worked on, mostly visual assets like sprites and art, but that’s mostly it. There might be some pieces that are looking weird, but I drew those like a long time ago.. You might notice a major difference in art style from zone 1 to zone 3 where my art changes drastically. a friend of mine offered to remake some pictures so expect that in the near future!
The game starts from the introduction, and goes all the way to the end of Zone 4 for now. There are some things that I have added into the game, some mechanics that you might find useful, or not..
-anxiety time
There are people who are anxious about performing time based events (or hate it), so I added an option to expand time in certain parts on these events (not counting events under 1 minute, talking more about events OVER 5 minutes or so), the maximum amount you can add is up to 45 minutes. so let’s say there’s an event in the game with a timer of 15 minutes. depending on your choice, you add to the timer. 15 minutes adds to 30, 30 to 45, 45 to 60. Or you’re lazy, idfc anymore...
-system boxes
*wiggles eyebrows* you heard it here, folks. I added a little thing in the game where you can change your boring system box from one color to the other. there are about.. pfft.. 12-13 colors to choose from, one referencing LISA’s system box, and one OFF system box. I will add more in the future. all you have to do is click around until you find your favorite color.
-sidequests
self-explanatory, there will be events in the game where you can optionally perform a sidequest.. you can earn some exp and some premium items that you might need in the future.
And that is it for now. Hope you enjoy this experience, if you do find bugs, please do contact me via dms with a screenshot of the bug where you found it!

1 Corinthians 10:14 (KJV)
Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
Fan Interpretation of Charming Gold’s parents from Running Man Animation.
When I was watching Running Man Animation, I at first never really paid much attention to Charming Gold. Before him, I was more interested in Pala, and even with the whole villain reveal, I still did not really pay him much attention until his backstory was revealed. I immediately became attached to CG after that.
In Charming Gold’s backstory, we are shown his parents and what’s interesting is that they are the only characters with faces. The other Pikok members have some sort of comedy theater mask on their faces, or even not drawn at all.
I probably thought more of these characters, if you can call them that, than what was intended. They were only present for precisely 15 seconds combined but there are so many storytelling elements on them. We were only shown their bust and side view and for this reason, we were never shown their full designs. It was hard trying to make their designs as it was in a flashback sequence with a yellow filter on everything so we, the audience, did not even know what colors they were. They do not even have names! They are called “Charming Gold’s mother” and “Charming Gold’s father” or “Charming Gold’s parents”. Even then, I actually liked these characters. Or their story potential regarding Charming Gold.
I’ll go talk about their names first instead of calling them “Charming Gold’s mother” and “Charming Gold’s father”. I named his mother Charming “Darling” Diamond because the diamond is one of the most valuable gemstones, fitting for the queen of the beautiful Pikok tribe. For his father, I was originally going to name him Charming Cobalt so his name is an alliteration similar to Charming Gold and also to reference his blue feathers. However, I thought that would make Charming Gold an outlier. My friend pointed out many years ago that Charming Gold's name is “Gold” but he’s blue. Since there are already characters with alliterations on their names I changed it to Charming Platinum. I made this as a reference that Gold's father is higher in power than him as platinum, which can also be known as white gold, is more valuable than gold.
On to their designs, as I said before in my Dazzling Diaspore character art I have a headcanon that the women of the Pikok tribe have duller colors compared to their male counterparts. I used a real-life image of a peahen so that’s why Diamond has a blue neck. Platinum has a hue of deep rich blue color, to further emphasize his authority over Gold, who has a standard blue color.
Using Charming Gold as a reference for their designs, I noticed that while looking at Gold’s design his whole body is a gradient. From a light teal on his nose to dark violets on the tips of his hair to even the icy blue color of his tail. With bold colors of red and gold on his face with purple eyes. I incorporated that detail into the designs of Pikok characters.
I did not want Charming Gold’s parents to be an exact copy of him, so I tried my best to make them look different, but still similar, to CG. Granted that, I may have overdone it. I did 3-4 color tests to see what I liked the most.
Another headcanon is the makeup they wear is a part of their face. So that eyeshadow and goatee on Charming Gold is actually a part of his face. While looking at the close-up shot of Platinum I noticed that there seemed to be some sort of bottom eyeliner, and since I wanted them to look like their son more so I made him have eye makeup similar to Gold. There seems to be no make-up on Diamond so I had to improvise.
Charming Gold seems to embody Korean beauty standards like his androgynous body and flawless skin. His backstory of being horrifically bullied is a common story in Korean Media, especially stories about beauty standards.
With that in mind, I designed Diamond and Platinum from those beauty standards. In Korea, facial hair is seen as unattractive, but according to history, men were not allowed to harm their bodies and that includes hair. That is why I had Platinum sport a beard than Gold’s goatee. (Side note: Fandom Wiki just described it as a “red line” but I personally see it as Gold having a goatee.) Diamond have freckles and a mole because from what I had researched these beauty marks are at best neutral or at worst ugly in Korea. I found no solid statement even though some KPop idols, who are known to follow Korean beauty standards, have these same beauty marks. She was shown to have pronounced eyelashes so I made sure to show that.
I also have a headcanon that as they age, their faces darken from a white to a gray color. I picked the gray from their grayscale.
For the clothes, Charming Platinum's design was simple enough as his clothes seemed to be a long-sleeved polo shirt with buttons paired with black pants and shoes. He had this cloth wrapped around him like a belt and was wearing a large cape or a royal mantle. He was noticeably wearing the same backless vest Gold wore in the show. Hence, I see the vest like a crown, where the king, Platinum, passed it down to his heir, Gold. And let me tell you, it was hard getting a decent reference for this very symmetrical pattern.
For Charming Diamond here, we were never shown much. I had interpreted it as her wearing a royal mantle and a sleeveless dress and that is all. I noticed that the design on her brooch has the same design that can be throughout the show, like the window in one of the references.
Their royal mantles are rather interesting to me since Charming Gold never wore one in the show; however, since the mantles have peacock patterns on them, I think they were supposed to represent a peacock’s tail, similar to how Gold wore one during Season 1. I did some creative liberty while designing their clothes as we were never shown their full frontal view. Clothes from the Pikok tribe are surprisingly rather simple.
For my headcanons about their deaths, it is rather simple. I did not really think much about it, just a vague idea about how they died. Charming Diamond died from an illness, and she never knew about Gold’s ability and that he was the one behind the missing persons cases. Charming Platinum was stabbed in an assassination attempt by a member of the Mong tribe, who Gold killed to save the former, ultimately revealing his secret power. Platinum later died from the injury he sustained but was on rather good terms with Gold after learning the latter’s ability.
I do not really like the idea that Charming Gold killed his parents. While yes, he probably killed all of the members of the Pikok tribe I just can not really see him as the type of person to kill his parents. Maybe that is just my rose-tinted glasses, but I like to interpret his relationship with his parents as complicated but loving. In his backstory, it was implied that Gold immediately went to his parents after being bullied again. We can assume that this was not the first time this had happened to him, and he possibly went to his parents for consolement.
When he realized that even his own parents were ashamed of him, he was completely heartbroken as implied by the emphasis on the single teardrop. Charming Gold’s parents were ashamed of him because of his appearance, so it is possible that when Gold gained his energy absorption ability and became “beautiful” they started to treat him better. They did have some sort of familial love for him before that, but it became more apparent after the “curse” was lifted. But this is just my interpretation.
For their personalities, we were never shown much. What little we get is where they are in a stressful situation, so we can not really know for sure how they normally act. But Gold’s personality and skill must have come from somewhere.
I might draw and flesh them out more but this is it for now. I have been trying a new art style where I lean into the gothic medieval style so that is why the art has a yellow filter, but there is still the other version where there is no filter. Drawing these two was hard because as it turns out, I’m not actually good with drawing two characters existing in the same space with correct proportions.
Thank you for reading!

Stack The Deck - PART 9
CW: regretful Whumper, Lima syndrom, trauma, paranoia
PART 8 ⇽ [Masterlist] ⇾ PART 10
・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・
Things had gone worse during the short break they took from each other. Morris came back to look at him, silent and frantic, while gathering his luggage.
Everything went by quickly after that, Elliot being lifted from the mattress and stashed away in the Civic's backseat, waiting to be picked up. He couldn't overhear the mysterious call Morris made in the next room, but whoever he spoke to made quite an impact on his behavior. Amber; she had to be it this time. He deserved to live after all, the high court decided.
Wordlessly, Morris had joined him in the car just moments later. Quiet curses roamed through the space between, his eyes always fixed on the man in the windshield's reflection.
It felt like a dream, entering the daylight again. Melting snow coated the meadows and industrial structures that slipped past them with anxious pace, hinting at the first signs of winter. It's Sunday, he realized, the first Advent.
Just a few more rehearsals, and their performance would be flawless. He couldn't wait to see the joy they always brought to the audience, the more reserved admirers of their art had their own way to express that.
Suddenly, the car came to a stop. Elliot faintly recognized the area, a few miles away from suburbia; he was closer to home than he imagined. As he admired the gentle blanket of white that glazed the street, an ice-cold gust of air surprised him. Morris pushed himself out of the driver's side to open the rear door, with a firm grab on his coat collar, he was pulled out to stand.
"Up you go, Ell!"
The soft crunch of snow underneath felt surreal, like it didn't belong there. Swaying lightly in the frosty breeze, boiling up from the inside but breathing out nothing more than little clouds, Elliot was held up by strong hands.
It was Advent Sunday in the deserted wilderness, nobody in sight. A perfect place to get rid of someone.
With a painful frown in his features, Morris continued to search for eye contact and was rewarded with a glassy stare. He prayed to never meet him again, to be something else than the stopgap.
"Ell, you're a decent guy. I wished we had met under nicer circumstances."
Silence. Elliot thought about spring, and his mother. He doesn't call often enough.
"I will end your life, if any of this gets to the authorities."
Nodding synchronously to his heartbeat, he didn't dare to take the chance.
It's a trick, he's going to put a bullet into my head the second I turn around. The fact that Morris was way more fond of everything that could stab didn't convince him otherwise. It's a trick.
"I thought - you know, I had this whole plan made up... Fuck! It's going to be okay." Pulling the sad piece of dried up cotton out of his pocket, Morris began draping the scarf around Elliot's neck, back to its original purpose. Fingers plucked at it, fluffing it up and around to offer the best protection.
"Listen, it doesn't matter how you feel about me right now, the second you're downtown, you need to go to a hospital."
"Yeah." A caw was all he would get out anymore.
"Nonono, listen. You go to the ER and tell them you, I don't know, slammed your hand in a car door. They won't believe a word, but that doesn't matter. Stick to that story, and they will stop asking eventually."
Morris had other worries right now, planning to delete all his unnoticed messages before anyone would lay an eye on it, a witness to his failure.
"Don't call her, okay? That's not your problem anymore."
Amber didn't use to be his problem for quite a while, actually, not until two days ago. He had pressed her and the little quirks she brought far away, the walls had ripped open now, bleeding inside and out.
Brown eyes dead focused on the asphalt, skin red with infection.
"Okay?"
Only nodding, again.
"Two miles, this way," Morris whispered closely and pointed to the steeple in the distance. It was a fast gesture, nearly over in a blink of an eye, but Elliot could still sense the firm hug Morris gave him, pressing into his shoulders to send shockwaves down his spine.
"In another life, I'm sure we would've had a great time together, right?" Putting the phone back into Elliot's pocket, Amber's number deleted just in case, he held the weak figure at his waist to keep it upright. There was a lot to say, an apology or maybe just a lonely goodbye, but nothing came over Morris' lips.
The pressure left Elliot, standing on his own. It would happen any second, he knew that now, a quick stab between the ribs to let it all out. Morris wouldn't drag this out, he was a decent man too, after all. Watching the sky, blues and grays mixing together in the morning sun, he waited for the end of his suffering.
The motor that never stopped running sounded so far away suddenly, just a buzz in the shell of his ear. He waited.
I don't call mom often enough, really.
Through the back mirror, Morris traced the abandoned man at the edge of the road. He looked so tiny against the open nature, vulnerable to the forces of nature.
Even if he had the nerve left to look at the license plates, he seemed to pass on this opportunity. They would be changed in the near future anyway. Before making it around a curve, he could see how his legs started to stumble forward, too bruised and stiff to bend correctly, but still going. He was expected back home; at least that he had to get right, the rest was irrelevant.
--------
Elliot couldn't remember how he made it back to his apartment building, the world drifted around him in a blur of colors. At one point, he carried himself into a subway station, leaning against the handrails like a wasted lunatic.
He heard laughter far away, normally anxious it could be about him, but these thoughts were nowhere near. He was glad nobody spoke to him, no help, no nervous interest. Morris would be back, and everyone who suspected foul play regarding the injuries put themselves at the same risk he lived through.
Just me, just me and nobody else. Nobody can know-
Struggling to get the door open, his forehead pressed violently against the wood to keep balance, until the keys finally slipped in to enter the only place left untainted. With a clumsy kick of his foot, it slammed shut again.
Elliot would have fallen asleep, if a silent hop hadn't greeted him near instantly. It felt wrong to have Ginkgo's soft hair next to his agony-ridden body, her noiseless presence coming over him in a wave of peace. She must have been starving by now, neglected for days.
What am I even good for?
Silently apologizing over and over again, he let his unmarked hand pet over her back, smearing wayward fluids all through her precious gray-brown fur. Any minute now, it's not safe.
So caught in his fear he tasted at the back of his throat, he tried to remember something that was promised just a few minutes earlier.
The rabbit's tiny snout nibbled and licked at his elbow, kissing away some scattered drops of blood. Oh, I forgot the yogurt drops.
Half of him wasn't present anymore, gone with time. He was a stain on the mattress, a pool on the bathroom floor. It's a trick, he will come back again. Lost in the feverish heat of his own grimy body, he continued to lay still, only being roused by Ginkgo from time to time.
I need to feed her.
Acting on autopilot again, his body moved towards the pantry. He watched himself fill her bowl up with fresh water along with hay and her usual muesli, ending the basic task by sitting next to her on the floor, breathing heavily.
"You're okay," he gasped, not sure who of the two he meant, "you're going to be okay!"
The whole left side of his body was numb, its mere existence scrapped from the mind's perception, like it didn't belong to him.
He needed to prepare for his captor's return: barricade the door, get a knife - a hammer, anything to protect himself. Later, his screaming muscles dictated, letting the husk of a person sink into the ground beneath.
Elliot was allowed to rest now, although his suffering was for nothing. Alas, that's the nature of it.

Hey! (Im that anon that sent an ask on your art accuracy. )Yes! Can you post a step by step?
Happy to oblige!
Our model today will be the legendary late Meat Loaf from the ‘I’d do anything for love’ music video! I’m just obsessed with Meat Loaf right now, don’t ask me why. I’ll do my best to describe the thought process as I go on!
Hope this helps!
Step 1.
Tumblr media
Well of course you just start with a circle, nothing else to say. Ya know like the spongebob meme…
Tumblr media
Step 2.
Tumblr media
So just starting to map out about where the main facial features go. Just eyeballing and keeping it loose. I really never use any of the well known measuring techniques and honestly just draw the features onto a mostly blank head. I don’t really like most face guide techniques.
Like for example there’s tutorials that say you have to map out the face by lining up the eyes with the edge of the nose or measuring the proper width of a nose bridge with the width of the eye and all these little ‘shortcuts’ and rules. I’m sure we’ve all seen a ‘how to draw a face’ tutorial and while I know these are helpful for some people, I find them a little stifling to expression. They give you a good map to essentially draw a flawless, wooden, conventionally attractive model but not everyone looks the same.  People have bigger noses and different snapped eyes and different length foreheads. Like, just fucking look at Meat Loaf!
Okay, rant over. Just embrace peoples unique beauty is all I’m trying to say and take that into account when you draw.
Step 3.
Tumblr media
Starting to actually draw some of the features. As you can see I thought I put my little guideline for his eyes a little high for the shape of Meat Loaf’s face (Which I’d later change back in the line art, haha) I also draw the eyebrow line first before I draw the eyes, I don’t know why.
For noses I tend to draw a few circles for the nostrils and the tip then give a loose line for the bridge up to the brow bone. It works very well for most nose shapes. Keep it loose and tighten up the shapes as you go.
On a specific note, when I draw people with open mouths I almost always first map out the face with the jaw closed then tilt the jaw open as I go on. Something about immediately drawing that long line from the nose to the chin for an open jaw tends to just visually throws me off. Working digital has some very helpful benefits 😅
Step 4.
Tumblr media
Okay, now that’s starting to look like a person. (Ignore the prosthetics!)
I think in this stage you can start to see my own style flare coming into play. I tend to exaggerate brow bones, lip shape and nose shape. While it’s not completely accurate to the original I think it adds to the features of whoever I’m drawing without going to a full caricature. I suppose this could be adding more ‘shape’ to something so it doesn’t appear so stiff. Highlight people uniqueness, ya know?
I’ll choose ‘expression’ over ‘accuracy’ any day 😅
Step 5.
Tumblr media
Whoa that was a big change! …but actually not really.
Now that I’m confident(ish) I’ve got his features mostly correct I start thinking about shading and how it frames and highlights his face. I put most of my work into the expression of the line work so I’m just mapping out what needs to be highlighted and what needs to be black, essentially. And also very loosely drawing his hair 😅 I never put any thought into drawing hair. Really it’s just a shape they frames the face for me and that how I think about it.
It’s also around this point in the sketch that I spend a little more time ‘sculpting’ out the features a little more. I loosely put in their shape and about where they are then I take a little time to make them a little tighter and more accurate.
Now it’s on to cleaner line Art!
Step 6.
Tumblr media
So really at this point it’s just tracing. For me specifically, I put A LOT of emphasis into line weight and I think that’s what makes my work unique. I also put a lot of emphasis into the black space of the piece as well. Most of my shading and shape comes from my line art rather than my colors, and that’s just how I like it.
Final touches
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After I remove the sketch layer underneath i usually add a few little detail lines or more cross hatching to emphasis certain areas. Just really stylizing it more to my liking.
I wasn’t planning on coloring it but I spent like 5 minutes putting in some loose colors because I thought the contrasting lighting looked interesting... I guess that’s all I have to say about that.
Now I hope you all are filled with the urge to go watch the ‘I’d do anything for love’ music video. It’s... a ride.
I hope this was sooomewhat helpful and nice little glimpse of my process. I want to emphasis again that I personally believe there’s no ‘right way’ to draw a face. There’s no specific cheat code on how to draw expression good. There’s no ‘ideal’ face. I feel like if you adhere to a rigorous guide for every face and expression you draw then it takes away from the feeling in a drawing.
What makes your art unique is you  🖤
Anyway, here’s a video of my process as well. Then you can see me making and trying to fix all of my mistakes or emphasizing what I think I did well. 😅

You may recall my Toad/Captain Toad write-up and discussion of species characters:
https://www.tumblr.com/wfagamerants/704269896471724032/wfagamerants-i-have-made-it-very-blatant-that-i
As a complimentary piece, I want to elaborate on species characters and the nature of identifying them.
Toad
Being my boy, Toad is who I have a lot to say about. Out of the species characters I see Toad be most often accused of not really earning the distinction of being a distinct character. I strongly disagree with and feel this is a perception caused by the distaste for Toads certain games akamodernPaperMario have brought forth, but here’s the thing: Toad has the most solid standing to be his own character out of everyone here.
When it comes to species characters, what defines them a lot of the time is role and Toad is very fortunate that a single prominent red Toad as part of the main cast, is a very constant part of the series. Many, many games have a single red Toad that’s given a distinct role, even when he say, has a red vest for the day, like in the Baseball games and even those still hint at his identity with things like his bad chemistry with Wario or his Super Sluggers card bio.
The latter in particular is an important thing to note, Toad is distinguished as an individual in official bios all the time and that’s been a thing since forever. Japanese bios do tend to shift towards talking about the species afterwards, but not before headlining Toad as his own guy. Mario Party Star Rush even takes it further by also having a generic Red Toad bio for emphasis.
Tumblr media
It helps that unlike the other species characters, Toad has a visual feature that does set him apart him from his species: the red spots blue vest combo. From official art, to Mario Maker 2, to the movie, to even instance where there is no other Red Toad around and he defies the color pattern:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, this isn’t always bullet-proof, since Nintendo has played fast and loose with that at times, as discussed in the original essay. The 3D World Blue Toad and Captain Toad mess and Odyssey using the red spots and blue vest combo for every generic Toad, being particularly extreme examples.
Thing is, this is mostly a thing with the platformers and RPG generics and even those have moments that defy this and more properly distinguish him (Super Mario RPG making him the only Toad/Kinopio, with the name in the text box is a huge one). The spin-offs and other materials are very consistent with this distinction and instances of THE Toad with a red vest, outside of Puzzles & Dragons, only happened in the 2000s, where colored Toads as we know them now were still a new thing, with fewer consistent guidelines.
Birdo
Birdo manages to dodge most of this kind of stuff by being the only prominent member of her species. There are weird things like her just hatching in Super Mario RPG, despite having already reappeared in the series via Wario’s Woods, but on the whole she is refreshingly straight-forward.
Kamek
One I already mostly covered in the old essay. In short, in the west we have Kamek as a distinct name for him, while in Japan the entire species are Kameks. Even localizations aren’t flawless with this though, since it can be muddy whether it’s the character or the species, even more so if different translations disagree.
Tumblr media
Kamek, even more than Toad, relies on the general role of a single prominent Magikoopa, which thankfully for him, isn’t a big problem. Being the one who raised Bowser, his general role as very closely working with him, the Koopalings and Jr, makes it very believable that this is the same character every time. There also isn’t much that really speaks against him being the main or single Magikoopa of any given game, like with other species characters, it’s just not always officially stated.
Some games do lean into this though, like Magikoopa in Super Mario RPG, who has a very strong hint he is Kamek:
Tumblr media
Even present in the japanese version, though there he refers to Mario and his attempt to kidnap him in Yoshi’s Island. At the same time he is called Kamezard in the Japanese version, a name that was never used before or since and it’s indicated he was originally meant to be a mook and not connected to the Kamek character.
Everything else I already said in the other essay, Kamek has his own oddities, but also a solid role to back him being his own character up.
Yoshi
Yoshi falls under the same umbrella as Kamek, as in he relies on his role as the prominent green Yoshi and luckily for him, that’s very straight forward. Helps that like Toad, he is consistently defined in western and japanese bios, as an individual, even when the species as a whole is discussed too.
Really, Yoshi first appeared in Super Mario World and then went on to appear in other Mario games, that part is simple. What’s more difficult to determine is what Yoshi from the Yoshi games, is what we identify as the main Yoshi.
In particular, the Yoshi from Yoshi’s Island seems to be a separate character based on two sources.
For one, we have Yoshi’s Story, where the playable Yoshis only just hatched and thus are different from the ones in Yoshi’s Island. Baby Bowser does have this line:
Tumblr media
But he also says that to any of the Yoshis, even though only the green one faced him during his first encounter with the dinos, soooooo yeah.
Another big one is Yoshi’s Island DS, where we see a Yoshi hatch at the end of the game and he’s a star child:
Tumblr media
Given the fanfiction-y star children concept of the game, this is no doubt meant to imply this is the current day main Yoshi. Whether he is the same one from Story though is undetermined.
Yoshi Topsy-Turvey is refreshingly simple, with Adult Bowser there as the bad guy, this is very likely Main Yoshi here.
Yoshi’s New Island takes place on a, well, new island, so these are different Yoshis.
How Crafted and Woolly World fit into things meanwhile is anyone’s guess. It’s still Baby Bowser there so these can just be very stylized takes on Island Yoshi, Story Yoshi or Main Yoshi, any combo of which may even be the same.
So yeah, Yoshi is the weirdest one because he legit can’t be the same guy every time, though Nintendo still attributes  every one of these games to the main Yoshi, despite in-game content denying it is the same one every time.
It is weird, but goes well with what I said about Toad and how the image of a prominent species member seems to matter more than the finer details, at times.

Art ask game: 7, 10, 12, 13, 20, 28
ooh thank you bestie!!
answers under the cut as usual
Weirdly Specific Artist Ask Game
7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate
Hm... I've tried out a lot of different forms of art simply to try them, and I've enjoyed most of them. I think I'm gonna go with wheel-thrown pottery for this one - I've tried it and couldn't quite get the knack of it, but I have so much respect for people that can just whip out a perfectly-shaped vase or something
I'm pretty good at sculpting, just not throwing clay
10. Favorite piece of clothing to draw
Hm... I actually really like drawing suits. There's something so clean about how it all fits together, tie into vest into jacket, and the creases in the fabric are often really strategic since a well-tailored suit should fit the form of the body
Plus I draw a lot of superheroes, so mission suits are fun (mainly because it means you work more with shadows and musculature than creasing, since they're so tight to the body)
12. Easiest part of body to draw
For realism, eyes and hands are actually the easiest for me. There's so much detail and specificity, you can recognize it for what it is even if something's a little off. And for me, it's easier to see the proportions in a complex drawing than a simple one, since you can see how the elements play off each other and find the structure from there. I'd do a close-up on a hand before I do a full-body piece any day of the week
For the comic-book style, I really enjoy working with the shapes and musculature of the limbs - there's a really particular flow to them and it can add a lot of movement to a piece, even though they're really just a few stacked polygons with a little extra shading.
13. A creator who you admire but whose work isn't your thing
Barnett Newman. I absolutely admire all the technical skill that goes into his works - I've heard that one of his got damaged, and it couldn't even be recreated by an expert because the original was so technically flawless that there weren't even visible brushstrokes - but I don't quite understand the visual appeal of big solid blocks of color, or why people would pay millions of dollars for it.
20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy
I mainly do realism, so... all of that basically. People think it's really hard but for me it's fun and relaxing. But if we're getting specific with it, realistic fur. It takes a lot of patience and a lot of layers, but it just looks so damn good if you do it right. There's just so much movement to it!
28. Any art events you have participated in the past (like zines)
I used to try doing Inktober, but I got so busy that I didn't make it past the first week or so. In general I don't really do art challenges or events, I just don't have time for it

Character Intro: Chrysanta (Kingdom of Ichor)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nicknames- Chrysta by the others
The Silver Goddess by the people of Olympius
Mother by her son
Age- 46 (immortal)
Location- Forgia district, New Olympus
Personality- Very much like her symbolic element/domain she's unyielding, cool, adaptable, & wholly collected. She's also intelligent, objective, and resilient in her self-worth. She's married.
She has the standard abilities of a goddess. As the goddess of metal her other powers/abilities include metallokinesis (metal manipulation), metal mimicry (being able to change a part/entire physical state into metal), bio-metal manipulation/generation & mimicry, intrametal transmutation, ermískinesis (mercury manipulation), partial fire and heat immunity, limited matter manipulation (by affecting the metallic particles in non-metallic objects), & is being able to manipulate silver, steel, Stygian Iron, Astrean Silver, lead, tin, titanium, and platinum.
Chrysta lives with her husband & son at their brownstone in the Forgia neighborhood of New Olympus. The interior design is very sleek, stylish, and modern with colors of black & cool tones of white, blue, silver, and gray. The kitchen has a fully automated computerized island along with cabinets built out of Astrean Silver & the latest state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances. The family has a male automaton assistant named Argyris. The family also owns a vacation home in the state of Lemnos (where her husband is originally from).
Chrysta has a pet- a she-dragon named Elys that's known as "The Silver Queen" due to her breathtaking shimmering silver scales! Elys is usually her mode of transportation when traveling great distances.
A go-to drink for her is a classic martini. She also likes cola, ginger ale, Strengthify's ionized alkaline water, champagne, vodka margaritas, assam tea, haldi doodth (hot tumeric milk), coconut water, iced tea, and masala chai. Her usuals from The Roasted Bean is the large cinnamon chai latte & the medium mango orange splash.
Chrysta's morning routine includes a jog through Eaglepoint Park, a workout at the gym, followed by a session of acupuncture at home.
A notable thing about her is her flawless copper brown skin. She owes it all to her all-body exfoliator pumice stone that's made from volcanic rock. The Platinum Luminescence tightening serum also helps!
Chrysta has been married to her husband Aurelius (who's a Cyclops) for close to twenty years. Despite the whispers & nay-sayers amongst the public and in the pantheon, she was never discouraged from being in a relationship with a non-deity being or from marrying him. She fell in love with him, his kind brown eye that remind her of a smouldering fireplace, his warm protective embrace, and his lovingly boisterous family! With life & their jobs, Chrysta and her husband always make time for each other. Their most recent date night was at Aitnaios beach.
She loves the samosa grilled cheese (on panini bread) from The Bread Box along with the broccoli salad (drizzled in olive oil dressing).
A guilty pleasure for her are the sweet potato fries from Olympic Chef.
Chrysta has a close relationship with her son Cedalion (Lio) (demi-god of smithing ore). They both contributed ideas that went towards the final design for Argyris. Some activities they like doing together are indoor rock climbing, doing pottery at Sparkling Ember, or going to some blacksmithing workshops at the community center.
One of her favorite desserts are the earl grey macarons with lavender-honey buttercream from Hollyhock's Bakery. She also likes her husband's "magma" cake which is essentially a molten chocolate cake added with carmalized walnuts & pecans.
She loves stopping by Cocoa Delights from time to time to buy a box of dark chocolate taffy.
In the pantheon Chrysta's friends with Makris (one of The Nesoi), Pleione (Titaness of sailing & stars), Paean (goddess of physicians); they often double date, Soteria (goddess of safety), Coeus (Titan god of foresight, intellect, & knowledge), Theia (Titaness of sight & heavenly light), Mnemosyne (Titaness of memory & language), Themis (Titaness of justice), Maia (one of The Pleiades), Astrape (goddess of lightning), Bronte (goddess of thunder), Praxidike (goddess of judicial punishment), as well as the esteemed blacksmithing cyclopes- Arges, Brontes, and Steropes. Chrysta was the official mentor to Techne (goddess of arts, crafts, & invention). She's also been impressed with the work done by Hepheastus (god of the forge) and Aetna (goddess of volcanoes). Chrysta doesn't like the goddess Dione. She never forgot the comment she overheard Dione say at her baby shower- whether her baby would be born with one eye or three.
For a main source of income she teaches metallurgial engineering at New Olympus University. For other means of income Chrysta models for/endorses Euryphaessa, Stella Ferrea (The Hyades' jewelry brand), Ouránio Théama, & Platinum Luminescence (Clymene's skincare brand). She sometimes writes for O Dianooumenos.
Chrysta was pleasantly dumbfounded when Clymene's designer luggage & handbag brand Megaleio came out with two limited edition handbags inspired by her! One of them is the "metallic chains" bag set in white gold with over 11,000 diamonds, coming with a 2.2 million drachma price tag. The other is a shoulder bag made with an all-platinum body adroned with over 2,000 diamonds. The functional strap can be removed & worn as a necklace while the 8 karat pear shaped diamond situated at the center of the bag can be worn as a brooch. It's priced at 1.9 million drachmas. Chrysta made a deal with the brand that all the proceeds from the purchases would go towards various charities and programs that supports Cyclopes.
She loves wearing the Olmorfia nail polish in "Moonshadow," a metallic silver color. She also likes the shade "Warm Amber," a dark shimmery copper color.
Chrysta decided to treat herself with a bit of a splurge, buying the silver flower shaped jeweled clutch from Diamond Ave.
In her free time she enjoys sculpting (loves doing metal sculptures), fencing, chess, doing brain teasers, lava surfing, basketball, working out, football (soccer), baseball, cooking, and spending time with her family.
Her all time favorite meal is malai kofta served with naan & white rice.
"Just because there's tarnish on the copper, that doesn't mean there's not a shine beneath."

One thing I learned about trying to get over my own insecurities when drawing, is that my own eyes are liars. They trick me into thinking that my mistakes are way more obvious than they are, and that they ruin a whole picture, and that if my drawings aren't perfect in every way then they aren't worth being shown. But then I see amazing works from other artists who think they aren't very good, and the imperfections I see (if any) don't come anywhere close to ruining the picture at all. I think of how sad I'd be if I didn't get to see that picture because the artist thought it wasn't good enough to show. Then I realize that I'm holding myself to an unfair standard compared to other artists. I would never tell another artist to withold or delete their work just because it isn't a 100% flawless masterpiece. Personally I think your work is amazing, whether it's a messy sketch for a joke or a fully coloured piece for a zine. It's funny, it looks great, and it's got so much personality. The fact that you were the one who made it is what makes it so good! I think you deserve to treat yourself and your art with a bit more kindness.
This is so, so achingly true and something that artists of all kinds need to be reminded of frequently, thank you. I love when it's put into perspective like this, because we really are just applying double standards unjustly towards ourselves relative to others and thinking it completely rational. hahah the shock of when a fellow artist thinks their art is terrible when all you see are masterpieces should be a wakeup call, but it never is :''^)
(oops sorry this got lomg so ill put it under here)
and i'll do exactly this while wholeheartedly believing that art does not at all have to be """good""" by any standards (also that art doesnt have to be hard work to be worthwhile). the point is to create, after that it's about what you want to get from it. this reminds me of a few years ago when my housemate and i were talking about how their art is so clean and professional (of course they disagreed) and how they're always actively trying to improve, whereas i improve very slowly because i have little motivation to follow tutorials or learn how to colour, shade, highlight etc correctly. and then they just hit me with "it's because your priority isn't how good or professional your art looks, but more so the emotion or tone it conveys" and it was so on the mark that it stuck with me ever since. It's incredibly helpful to know what you want from your own art, and in turn, where your frustration/perfectionism is stemming from.
but in the face of those frustrations, like you said, kindness is key. give yourself a break from your brain, create art you think is bad, it's fine. why wouldn't it be fine? what do i think is going to happen? my inability to draw eyebrows that don't look like 2 slugs about to kiss will be weighed against my soul on judgement day and i will be cast to hell? (cut to judgement day and this is exactly what happens).
and because art is such a personal thing, everyone has their own unique flavour and other people are so much more likely to recognise that uniqueness than we do ourselves (no chance of sneaking off to draw embarrassingly indulgent fanart on the downlow, someone will always know its you '':^v *whispers* do it anyway, do it unabashedly). and like you said, the thought of missing out on seeing that because an artist deemed their work unworthy to share out of insecurity, is heart breaking.
thank you for these words of encouragement, you've really helped me and likely others refresh that stale, self-critical part of our minds, and i hope you’re able to internalise these kind reminders for yourself too <3 (i'm so sorry for this messy response, i originally typed out a whole essay and lost it all when the page reloaded... although the original was probably just as messy :'''V)

Throwback Thursday: Emps
Figured I'd take the time to share these guys again today!
It's been a hot minute since I've done anything Emp-related, but I always have a pretty darn good time working with them.
Tumblr media
The Emp species was designed by a buddy of mine. They're a semi-open species, meaning you're welcome to design one for yourself anytime you like! Some traits/designs may be limited, however. For those curious, you can see and read more about the Emp species here!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We'll start off with Amurós a.k.a the sexy big red alien lady that I think has/had a few fans. Couldn't imagine why... hahaha!
(Also, the holiday piece features a dated design. The concepts below that illustration are her current design.) 💕
Since the day she was born, Amurós mentally walked the red carpet. She hasn't a shy bone in her body, taking pride in herself and her originality, regardless of public opinion. She has a touch of that "gentle giant" energy that pairs well in contrast to that of her partner in crime, Kuavan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Old, abandoned WIP of Kuavan and Amurós with their older designs vs. newer ones - also a WIP - below.)
Kuavan is another Emp that I sadly have very limited art of, but hope to fill in for more with time! I refer to Kuv and Amur (some nicknames of theirs) as being like - my personal Emp Team Rocket. They're like Jessie and James as strange plant alien folks. Kind of!) 🚀
Tumblr media
Carrying on, we have this more casual and unfortunate gentleman who gets swept up in some of Amurós and Kuavan's affairs. Nigel. Trust me, he's as tired as he looks. The award for "most relatable character" in this entire series for me goes to this guy. ☕
A scrupulous journalist and avid coffee connoisseur, Nigel has a knack for observation (despite how tired he may always seem.) His many a keen eye for detail make him an excellent detective, which inadvertently land him as a lead character in my little Emp story, where he dives into the most dangerous, yet compelling investigation of his life.
Nigel is also an Emp design I adopted (rather than created) a while back! Courtesy of the aforementioned buddy, Friggenwhat. 💚🌿
Tumblr media
And now, for the villain...
Obviously, Roseus is a villainous type and serves as the main antagonist to my little Emp story, jokingly referred to as the "musical mob boss."
A skillful composer and song writer, Roseus moonlights as a criminal mastermind, using seemingly flawless levels of deception and manipulation to get what he wants. The eloquence of his demeanor is but the rose to his thorns (both metaphorical and literal.) Think of him as a bit of an American Psycho of the Emp world! 🎻🔪
From here, we segue into some characters who aren't entirely connected to the story going on with Nigel, Amur, Kuv and Roseus. They sort of have their own little thing going on. Characters made with no story in mind. Just their own life stories. 🌎🍃
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eidolon (who I honestly mispronounce the name of intentionally because "EYE-dull-on" sounds cooler than "eye-DOLE-un" to me. Sue me.) is such a neat and peculiar little character to me. I love them.
They definitely take on an even more alien appearance than these other aliens and the oddity of more or less being a cyclops with vestigial eye features befitting the usual humanoid gives their expressions a bit of a unique feel to them. Life style wise, they are an entertainer of sorts! Namely, a contortionist. Which I wanted to portray a bit of in that Halloween-y illustration below the concept work. 🎃
(Also, the concept work from above the illustration is indeed dated. Eidolon is meant to take on a lotus theme with a few slightly modified features as seen in the illustration!)

And lastly, we'll close with a bit on this gal. I absolutely adore her design (for very obvious reasons, if you know me... hahaha!) 🌌💙
A concept of a quiet, mysterious Emp gal known as Aeralei, who appears occasionally in my little Emp story. She has a bit of a symbiotic pet pal; an endangered species of arachnid unique to Pathos (the planet in which Emps originate) whose crystalline webbing is coveted among many.
In return for food, shelter and general safety, her little spider buddy allows for her to make use of its silk for certain crafts, mostly jewelry. The two more or less make a living as a travelling merchants. 🕷🕸💎

Just a few thoughts on the Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life character design updates!
Okay so let’s start off on a good note:
Tumblr media
Honestly she looks great
Her design was already pretty flawless, and it translated well to the updated art style
Tumblr media
Honestly not bad! I also don’t mind her new name
With Molly though (and with one other resident that I’ll get to later) I like the ART of her more then the actual character model?
It’s a very nitpicky thing, but I feel like her hair lost a lot of the volume it had in the original game. It looks a lot wispier, and I prefer how thick it used to look.
Other then that though, she looks great. I like the small changes to her outfit a lot
Tumblr media
I actually like this design even more then her original one!
I like that they made her look more tomboyish to contrast just how feminine all the other romance options are
Her old design was also very good, but it was very much of it’s time. This one feels a little more timeless imo
I wonder what her new english name is going to be? I don’t think I’ve seen it anywhere yet
Tumblr media
Like Celia, they didn’t change her look too much because it was already really good!
I like that they made her look older and taller, while still making her look younger then other marriage candidates; that’s a pretty important part of Lumina’s character overall.
Her older design also looks very nice!
I also don’t think we’ve seen her new english name either! I wonder what it’ll be? Maybe Luna? Maybe they’ll just keep her japanese name, which is Leona.
Tumblr media
OKAY now we’re getting into the weeds a little more
Honestly I don’t MIND this one so much? I mainly miss his big nose and witch hat, which I think they could have incorporated more into the new design. But it could have been worse!
However, just like Molly I don’t like his in game model as much as I like his art! He looks EVEN more cleaned up then he does here and I really don’t like the eyes they gave him!
Yeah, you probably aren’t gonna see them that much, but you can see them when he’s in profile! And I don’t like them!
They’re like the narrower, sexy anime eyes. But I feel like Gustafa should have either rounder, friendlier eyes or just have them be constantly closed in a 😊 type expression
Tumblr media
Now for me, Matthew is the opposite of Molly and Gustafa where I actually like his in game model MORE then his art!
I feel like his in game model better captures the old Marlin energy, especially his expression. He also has a longer chin then his art does, which is reminiscent of his old design. See?
Tumblr media
That doesn’t mean it’s perfect however; I really wish they’d kept his hair a lot closer to his original design. Like I guess I can understand loosing the mullet, but I wish they’d kept it curlier and darker
It’s also throwing me off that he looks so much skinnier for some reason? Though that’s an element of all the new designs, for some reason it’s throwing me more with him. That might just be a me thing though
Tumblr media
Honestly he looks fine, no real notes here!
I’m glad at least one bachelor didn’t go through a major overhaul lmao
I think he also made the transition the most gracefully into the new design of all the bachelors
Tumblr media
Wish we had a better image of Cody or some art at least, but this is what we got for now!
I do actually like that they made Cody a bachelor, though I dunno about this design?
He’s so... boringly handsome
I do like that he’s noticeably buffer then the other marriage candidates at least, but they scrubbed off a ton of his old personality. Like what a boring looking shirt and hair style. I miss the mohawk!
Whenever they release his art though, it’ll probably have more going for it.
Tbh, I’ve actually thought most of the bachelor designs in the last like... TWO Story of Seasons games have been sooooo bland looking. Trio of Towns was the last game where there was some interesting guys, but I thought both the redesigns of the bachelors in the Friends of Mineral Town and the designs of the bachelors in Pioneers of Olive Town were so forgettable (ESPECIALLY compared to the girls, who have continued to be very cute and unique!)
That’s it for the marriage candidates we’ve seen so far! I don’t know if we’ll get any more (it looks like Flora’s being confirmed as non-romancable; though who knows, we might get some DLC later or something that changes that! And I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought in new characters entirely like they did with FoMT) I don’t have many thoughts on the other villagers since they didn’t have any major changes, but I think they’re all looking really good for the most part!
On the few that did get a few updates, here’s just a few thoughts on them!
Vesta looks pretty good! I do miss her apron, I think it had a little more personality then the vest she’s got on now, but it’s fine. I’m glad they kept her buff and with giant head
I do also think Hugh was cuter as a kid in the chubbier artstyle, I wish they’d kept that
Chris’s pantsuit is ADORABLE and works a lot better then her old pencil skirt
I DIDN’T REALIZE TEI HAD A MUSTACHE. In the original art I thought he just had a really big mouth! I’m glad I can see the mustache better in the new design LOL
I ALMOST FORGOT PUI. I know a lot of people don’t like his “glow up” but I honestly don’t mind it, I think it looks cute! He’s not a character I really have a strong opinion on lol
The main characters look great! I know there’s gonna be character customization options, but I don’t know if I’ll have the heart to change them from their defaults; I’m too nostalgically attached to them!

Captain Marvel (2019)
Tumblr media
So first off, and most importantly: if you are looking for a film in which you can see lots of little girls lie down in sand and then stand up in slow motion, then yes, this is the film for you. Ditto if you want to hear an incredibly ill-placed Gwen Stefani song about girl power played over a pivotal dramatic battle scene. On the other hand, if you are wanting to see a film with engrossing, likeable characters you care about on a plausible adventure you can have fun watching, you are bang out of luck, my friend. Having said that, although Captain Marvel is, without any shadow of a doubt, a bad film, it's actually not quite as irredeemable as I'd been bracing myself for, and there *are* parts that feel much like your average Marvel movie in happier days. The main flaws are the thoroughly wooden unlikeability of Brie Larson's character, and the shoehorning of crass feminist/SJW politics into the story where there is simply no need.
As has happened in the comics in recent years, the character Captain Marvel is presented as a perfect paragon of popularity but at no point does she ever behave like someone the audience would actually like in real life: she acts bitter-faced and snarky with everyone she meets, never caring for others (except certain 'victim groups' to make a political point) or displaying any real warmth or humanity. She is never shown to be trying to help or befriend anyone she meets, and yet everyone either likes and respects her immediately, or else is easily crushed by her. She never has to learn that there are flaws in herself - she's not a cowardly or money-hungry character that eventually learns there are things more important than herself that push her to overcome her weakness or greed - she simply learns that others have been 'holding her back'. At one point in the film she gains enormous powers just by contemplating how splendid she is, and then later on closes her eyes while falling and, with a smug smile, discovers she can fly. No further explanation for these astoundingly miraculous events is ever forthcoming. We just come to accept that she can do EVERYTHING. She starts out flawless and ends the same way. This is boring. I should also add that what the filmmakers did to Samuel L. Jackson's character is a crime, too. His Nick Fury in this film bears no relation to the one he plays in every other film. This is simply a different person altogether, present only for light relief and positive skin pigmentation representation. As with the Star Wars franchise and other current films, excellence and originality have been replaced by mediocrity and hollow virtue signaling, with writers, directors, actors, characters and storylines being selected for arbitrary surface characteristics and political allegiances rather than merit and magic. This whole period is going to be considered a shameful stain on the history of the art of cinema in generations to come, and Captain Marvel a prime example.

Portrait Editing Secrets: Pro Tips for Perfecting Your Photos
Tumblr media
In the realm of photography, portraits stand as timeless treasures capturing the essence of individuals. However, even the most flawless photos sometimes need a touch-up to reach their full potential.
Enter the magic of Photoshop, a tool revered by professionals and hobbyists alike for its ability to enhance and refine images. In this guide, we unveil some insider secrets and pro tips for achieving portrait perfection through editing.
Mastering the Basics
Before delving into advanced techniques, it's crucial to grasp the fundamentals of portrait editing. Understanding tools like the Healing Brush, Clone Stamp, and Adjustment Layers lays the groundwork for transformative edits. Whether it's removing blemishes, adjusting exposure, or refining color tones, these basic tools form the cornerstone of portrait enhancement.
Adding Hair in Photoshop
One common challenge in portrait photography is dealing with hair imperfections. From stray strands to uneven patches, hair can sometimes detract from an otherwise flawless image. Fear not, for Photoshop offers a solution.
By using techniques like the Clone Stamp tool or the Content-Aware Fill feature, you can add hair seamlessly where needed, ensuring a polished and natural-looking result. Remember to adjust opacity and blend modes to maintain realism and consistency with the original hair.
Perfecting Skin Tone and Texture
Achieving smooth, radiant skin is a hallmark of professional portrait editing. Utilize tools like the Healing Brush and Frequency Separation to address imperfections while preserving natural texture. Additionally, consider employing selective color adjustments to even out skin tones and create a cohesive look across the entire image. Striking the right balance between flawless and natural is key to crafting captivating portraits.
Enhancing Eyes and Expression
Eyes serve as windows to the soul, making them a focal point in portrait photography. Enhance their allure by brightening whites, intensifying colors, and sharpening details. Techniques such as dodging and burning can further emphasize their impact, drawing the viewer's gaze and infusing the image with emotion. Don't forget to pay attention to facial expressions, subtly adjusting features to convey the desired mood or personality.
Harnessing the Power of Light and Shadow
Lighting plays a pivotal role in shaping the mood and atmosphere of a portrait. During editing, leverage tools like Dodge and Burn to sculpt facial contours, creating dimension and depth. Pay close attention to highlights and shadows, fine-tuning their intensity to achieve a balanced and flattering result. Remember, subtle adjustments can make a significant difference in the overall impact of the image.
Preserving Authenticity
While it's tempting to strive for perfection, it's essential to maintain the authenticity and integrity of the original image. Avoid over-editing by periodically zooming out and reassessing the overall look. Strive for a balance between enhancement and realism, ensuring that the final result remains true to the subject's unique features and personality.
In conclusion, portrait editing in Photoshop is a powerful art form that requires both technical skill and creative vision. By mastering essential tools and techniques, you can elevate your photos to new heights, capturing the beauty and essence of your subjects with precision and artistry. So go ahead, unleash your creativity, and transform your portraits into timeless works of art.
