19) Which is the funniest moment in the series?

Moran in the anime version of the Phantom of Whitechapel arc, specifically at the start and end. I can't help but crack up when he calls Louis a "traitor". 'Cause it's like? How??? XD

To clarify: I know what he was getting at in that scene, but I can't help but laugh at him! At least he comes around later.

Then at the end when Jack joins the team, again, idk what Moran was so worked up about, but it's just so hysterical! Especially his "Huh?!" in the dub!

9) Sexiest character

Just one?

Well, Moran is basically 75% of the series' fanservice; I mean, look at those muscles! Well, actually most of the guys are ripped-

Then of course, there's William with his infamous line that sends chills up my spine every time!

I don't think I can choose just one; I could so easily measure them on a scale of cute to sexy, however! (I'll have to do that for a separate post, though; these answers are getting kinda long-)

38) Do you read or watch any other adaptations of Sherlock Holmes?

As a matter of fact, I do! :)

The Granada TV series is one that I'll always recommend; it was actually what got me to read the canon again! The attention to detail and faithfulness to the source material are things I never get tired of. There is a reason subsequent adaptations pay homage to the late Jeremy Brett; he was literally born for the role. (Heck, he was even Jean Doyle's headcanon Sherlock)

And while I'm currently taking a break from it (very long story), the Hayao Miyazaki & Kyosuke Mikuriya collab that is Meitantei Holmes (known in English as Sherlock Hound) is another great anime based on Sherlock Holmes. It has many of the traits typical of the Ghibli movies. Need I say more? Also, that version of Moriarty is essentially inB4 Waluigi.

The Great Mouse Detective (the children's books, not the Disney film, though it's good too) is another series I've enjoyed so far, even though I've only covered three of the eight books so far. I look forward to continuing when I get the chance!

Much like YuuMori, these three are also really great introductions to the canon, or just enjoyable on their own.

I've seen others, too, but I don't think I can really recommend them as much. Maybe I should make a tier list one of these days!

14) What is your favorite quote or scene?

The scene in The Final Problem arc where Fred tells William there's really no reason for him to die had an impact on me.

Because aside from it being absolutely true, it's also the first time Fred speaks up without so much as a nudge from anyone else. That was all on his own accord. And if he does finally get a backstory in Part 2 (please Miyoshi-sensei!) , it will only add more to his speech later on. Though even without a backstory, it still tells us how much William means to Fred (and the others as well, obviously).

Kumon: Wouldn’t something like buying juice for the rest of us be acceptable!?

Muku: I think that works!

Kazunari: Alright, let’s start the match with the first three players. I guess I’ll head up first~.

Taichi: Knock ‘em dead, Kazu-kun~!

Muku: What should we do, Kyu-chan?

Kumon: You can go first, Muku!

Izumi: Alright, I’ll go first.

Tasuku: Sure.

Taichi: Are all of you ready~? We’ll begin at the same time… and start!

-pause-

Tasuku: …Sakisaka got a pretty high score.

Kumon: But there’s not much difference between the points of the other two teams. What a great match!

Taichi: Way to go, Director-sensei~!

Kazunari: Okay, the second teams are up next! On your marks! Start!

Tasuku: —!

*shoots*

Izumi: Amazing, Tasuku-san!

Taichi: HA!

Kumon: GO!

Taichi: It hard to gauge the distance!

Tasuku: Here, I got it. It’s cocoa.

Izumi: Ah, thank you. We might have lost the game, but it was fun, right?

Tasuku: Agreed.

Izumi: …Or rather, you didn’t intend to win, did you, Tasuku-san? You gave them advice in the middle of the match, and it looked like you missed your shots on purpose near the end.

Tasuku: …Well, I can’t let the students pay for our drinks, now can I?

Option 1: “I’ll pay too!”

Izumi: I’ll pay too!

Tasuku: No, don’t worry about it. It’s just juice.

Izumi: You and I were on the same team though. It’s not fair if you have to deal with the punishment game alone.

Tasuku: I don’t consider this much of a punishment game. It’d be a different story if we had to do party tricks though.

Izumi: Well… I guess this is more reasonable than the party tricks.

Tasuku: Right? So don’t worry about it, okay?

Izumi: …Thank you.

Izumi: As expected of Tasuku-san… you’re so manly!

Tasuku: What’s with that? Well, Miyoshi is a different story though.

Izumi: (He says that, but I see he’s still buying Kazunari-kun’s share…)

Tasuku: Anyways, I’m sorry we lost even though you tried so hard.

Izumi: Oh no, don’t even mind it! I think it’s wonderful that you thought that way, Tasuku-san.

Izumi: It’s nice—you’re like a big brother to the members who came today.

Tasuku: I’m the younger brother in my actual family though. But, well, I guess this is fine once in a while too. Rather than saying we came to play sports today, we basically just played games the whole time.

Izumi: Now, now. I achieved my goal of moving my body!

Tasuku: Are you also prepared to exercise with me then?

Izumi: Ahh, I’ll consider that another time!

Tasuku: …You’re not going to fold either, huh?

Kurokawa: No, Tatsumi-kun, I might meet my end here. Even though I just wanted to be happy with you.

Tomoe: Kurokawa-san! I hope that my brother accepts us one day.

Kurokawa: I wonder if that day will come? I think I'll be killed before that happens. Ha...hahaha....

Hiroto: Don't be so pessimistic... Well go ahead and sit in the back. No one will see you there, so calm down.

Morinaga: Ah... Hiroto-kun, can I get a glass of water?

I don't think I ever hold any hatress or grudge for Yuumori or two sensei or the fandom or any character/couple in it. I just feel sad overall because both William and Yuumori used to be my comfort character/zone for years. I admit that I had a hard time (4-5 years) and this series + William have supported me both emotionally and mentally through those times. I don't regret loving and devoting my time, my love and my money for it. I just feel lost that I'm still sad after leaving Yuumori behind. Even after months later of TFP arc, my heart still aches everytime I think of the manga. I have witnessed people come and go during my time in the fandom but never in my wildest dream that I see myself leaving.

I don't hate any party related to the series. I just feel bitter for all the things that changed, for the main ideal/objective/direction of the manga that no longer be focused. Yes love is accepting but love also is about wanting it to become better. And while I tried to turn blind eyes to the weak writing of Yuumori, its flaws and inconsistancies were too many that they overwhelmed me with uneasiness. I just wish things could be different and I would still happily support and enjoy this manga till the end. It really feels like dating a person for a long time and now we are in a post-break up phrase haha...

Time will heals my wound but the bond of the precious relationship we used to have might never be fixed. This will forever be a small part in my heart eventhough we have gone different ways. Thank you for everything, Takeuchi and Miyoshi sensei 🙇‍♀️ I owe sensei that "Thanks" and also to William. But I don't owe anyone anything with my decision or my feelings. I devoted enough to be proud of myself as a Yuumori fan. And I don't need judgement from anyone because I'm the only one who can judge myself in this broken love. I don't blame sensei for the choice they made. Sensei has chose what they think is the best for both of them and the manga. I accept it eventhough I don't agree and leaving is the peaceful thing I can do to keep my beautiful memories with this series. I have no regret, just need time to heal now.

(thisis just me rambling) the ask before this reminds me of the manga dojo miyoshi sensei and takeuchi sensei did for jump sq december issue 2022

(jump sq's caption saying something like "how to make destined rival" is sending me like bro now everyone in china knows they're soulmates)

anyway i never really read it so i finally went through it using google translate a few days ago, and most of it was just sensei going through the thought process behind william and sherlock as yuumori characters, why they're different from the original characters, how to leave certain impression on the readers, etc.

she also went over some points about the visual/character design, then there's this part from the 'point 1' on 3rd picture (once again, i used google translate!)

and this is making me ctfu because with liam's design she was like "oh a beautiful beautiful angel" and then when it came to sherlock it was almost like "just some guy i guess" 😭😭 it makes me feel super validated though because he's meant to be babygirl in the first place (´⌣`ʃƪ) (??)

it's also kinda funny because when yuumori: the remains chapter 2 dropped the other day, when i checked the japanese fans' reactions on twitter (they sometimes do nice analysis about the chapter so i like reading them) they were all just saying things like "william has a really nice face" "he's so beautiful" and i hope sensei knows people are saying this because it's all according to keikaku 😂😂 but he really is so pretty though!!! (i guess because it's basically a story that people who read the novel already knew, people probably didn't have a lot to say lol)

i also realised that sensei deliberately designed them to look the opposite of each other was because they were rivals at the beginning... but now they're on the same side so this doesn't apply to the current sherlock anymore so sensei changed his design to look more similar to liam in terms of style??? what do i know 👀

anyway i just thought this was interesting, thank you for coming to my ted talk

#i'm not saying sherlock is ugly (he does look ugly sometimes let's be fr) (<- guy with sherlock icon) but #even without sensei saying all this i notice that yuumori artists tend to make liam super super pretty #especially with the eyelashes WOW #(not me i'm bad at it so i don't give him eyelashes)#also as Size Difference Enthusiast i feel kinda stupid bc i never realised sensei has always drawn sherlock broader than liam #they're the same height and they were the same weight too but body frame/built wise sherlock has always been Thicker #do you see their necks?? oh my god their necks especially. liam's neck is so slender compared to sherlock's #he's just so babygirl #i can go on about sherliam for 5000 years so i'll stop myself here #rambles

Twitter news

Miyoshi-sensei mentioned in this tweet that due to scheduling constraints, there are some panels/artwork that are of lower quality than usual, and these will be fixed in the tankobon release

The tweet also mentions that they will be “carefully selecting” the chapters to adapt from the light novels, which may imply that only selected portions of the light novels will be adapted

Correction to Ch65

As mentioned in the footnotes for Ch76, this bubble on pg26 of Ch65 has been corrected to “We’ve already parted with the Durham residence…” instead of “The Durham residence has already been sold…”. As Ch1 of The Remains has clarified that the mansion is in disrepair, it is now clear that the previous translation made too eager an inference, and so it has been edited to be more conservative.

Corrections to the novel TL

There are also some small errors in my original TL of the novel, which I’m only now discovering as we go through the stories again. These have now been corrected in the tumblr posts, but I do expect to find more along the way — my sincere apologies in advance 🙇🏻‍♀️

The new credits page

You may have noticed that the new design uses the Strawberry Thief pattern by William Morris 🍓 His patterns were really popular in the late Victorian era, and I’ve always headcanoned that some of them were used in the Moriarty family residences in some form or another (๑˃ᴗ˂)

Where’s the story going?

The story so far has been a faithful reproduction of the first light novel. But many have pointed out that if we’re currently reliving the light novels through Louis’s flashback, then how will we get to the light novel stories from William and/or Sherlock’s POVs?

Notice that William was mentioned to be looking for something in the mansion: maybe he’ll also find something that will spark memories of his time with Sherlock? (I’m pretty sure Forbidden Games will be adapted; it would be such a missed opportunity if it wasn’t 😆)

As for the stories that are completely from Sherlock’s POV, it remains to be seen how those will be handled (if at all?) — excited!! x)

Hi! I was hoping you could perhaps help clear up an unusual piece of info about YuuMori. According to some YuuMori fans on twitter one of the creators of YuuMori quit working on the story all together, if I read the tweets correctly. The one who quit was the person who wrote the storyboard/wrote the story of the manga. Can you tell if this is true? Do you know anything regarding this? Sorry for my english. Thank you very much in advance!

It does appear that Ryosuke Takeuchi-sensei will no longer be working on the series from this point onward. Takeuchi-sensei did work on the story boards for the series.

That said, I'm not sure he actually...wrote it? I looked at some other series with multiple creators, and I've seen credits split by "Story" and "Art". I've seen "Story and Art By." I've seen collective pen names (CLAMP, Adachitoka, etc.), etc.

YuuMori splits credits by "Based on the Works of" ACD, "Storyboards" by Ryousuke Takeuchi and "Art" by Hikaru Miyoshi.

It also appears that the story was originally conceived of and planned by Miyoshi. From the one interview with the two I saw and from their comments in the tankobon, it does also seem that Takeuchi also has input into the story.

"Storyboards" isn't the same thing as writing the story or coming up with the ideas. Storyboarding will layout the story in panels and pace the delivery of information and order how to present the information.

So like. This super cool thing is Takeuchi's work:

The panels here that show there's a breath and a pause before either of them say anything here:

Things like that. Storyboards will say, "This panel will focus on the lower half of the mouth" and "They'll pose like this" and "This shot comes between these other ones," etc. And those are critical components of the story, because it's manga, and the way the visual information is presented matters a lot.

But it's not necessarily the story itself. The plot, the dialogue, I don't know which is more responsible for that. I suspect it's strongly collaborative, but I really don't know.

A Fateful Meeting

Platonic Sugino and Nagisa

“Main Hall, Main Hall,” Sugino said to himself as he turned the corner carrying a large box filled with new textbooks, “just one more corridor and I can head back and enjoy the rest of my break. Or what’s left of it at least.”

He continued to walk along one of the many hallways of Kunugigaoka Junior High’s main campus, casually looking around to glance at the many multicoloured displays that were pasted onto the walls, mainly notices and reminders to study. The things this school did for grades - it was unbelievable how much power academic performance held around here.

“You better be careful,” Miyoshi from 2-D had warned him when his first mathematics test of the year came back to him with a grade that was less than stellar, “if your grades aren't good enough, you’ll get sent to you-know-where.”

The hushed way his yearmate had described the dreaded E-Class building still shook him to his core.

Shindo clapped him on the back, “Nah, Sugino’s not like those losers. He actually works hard and uses his brain. Unlike those lazy drop-out’s, he has potential.”

“Ugh,” Miyoshi scrunched his nose up in disgust, “can you imagine actually being associated with that lot? It’s practically social suicide. If anyone I knew ended up going to E-Class next year, I’d burn any memories I had of them.”

“Yeah,” Teruya agreed, “wouldn’t want to get dragged down by the likes of them.”

Sugino shook his head and continued on his journey. He didn’t know why but the subject of Class 3-E was one that was treated as a taboo, it’s existence only made known by harsh whispers and sneers, like it was a cautionary campfire tale than an actual classroom filled with actual students. Personally, he didn’t understand why a group of teenagers should be shunned and treated like parasitic pariahs just because they found it harder to learn but he knew better than to publicly complain lest he ended up in that ramshackled building at the top of the mountain. Apparently E-Class students weren’t allowed to join any clubs and if he was forced to drop out of the baseball club then the world might as well have stopped turning.

‘Ahh, here I am,’ Sugino thought as he placed all of the weight of the box in one hand and opened the door with the other.

He entered the room to find that it was already inhabited by the concert club and the teacher that he was sent to deliver the box to was currently engaged with observing the performance on the stage. Currently all of the students were sitting down - apart from one small kid with blue hair (is it possible to have naturally blue hair?) tied down into a low ponytail. She - ‘he’ Sugino mentally corrected himself when he noted the male’s uniform that the other student was wearing - was stood near the middle, eyes closed and eyebrows furrowed, chin resting on a violin that he was playing. And boy was he playing it. Sugino found himself completely captivated by the elegantly eloquent music that was being played and the way his delicate fingers created notes that filled the entire room, engulfing the vast emptiness with memories of rainy days and crackling fires and mugs of his mother’s hot chocolate. He found himself stepping forward, wanting to get closer to both the boy and the harmony when all of a sudden it stopped.

“Shiota that was wonderful,” Fujimoto-Sensei praised making the blue-haired boy - Shiota - blush and duck his head, “Now everyone, break is going to be over soon so you can all pack up and leave.”

“YES FUJIMOTO-SENSEI!”

As the students began to make their exits, folding up their stands and moving their chairs, the teacher turned to him, “Ah, hello, what can I do for you?”

Sugino blinked and replied, “Oh, Sir, Suzuki-Sensei told me to give these books to you. They came from reception.”

“Oh yes, thank you. I’ll take that.” He smiled and took the bag from him, which Sugino took as a sign to leave. He had just left the hall and was about to make a turn when-

“Shiota,” Sugino called out when he saw a flash of blue hair in his field of vision. The boy in question stilled and slowly turned around, wordlessly pointing to himself, “yeah, you.”

“Umm, can I - uh - help you with something?” Shiota asked timidly, voice soft. His head was slightly lowered and a hand was gripping onto the strap of his school bag. He just looked so small and for some reason, Sugino felt the urge to protect this kid flash through him. Just something about the tiny guy in front of him made him feel warm and safe and he couldn’t help but want to be in his company even though he never really saw him outside of assemblies, school trips and a few breaks between classes.

“I just wanted to say that you were really good,” he said, smiling at the blunette in an attempt to get rid of some of the nervousness that was prominent on his face, “like I don’t know what it was but it sounded awesome.”

“Oh, um, thanks?” Shiota replied, “that’s really nice of you to say.”

“You must practice a lot, right? I mean, you’ve got to work really hard to be that good.”

“Yeah, it’s not that difficult once you’ve the hang of it. You must practice a lot yourself, right, since you’re in the baseball team and all?” at Sugino’s confused look he flushed, “I-I watched you play during the match last week. You were good. I mean you won, so, uh, congratulations.”

“Thank you, Shiota.”

“Nagisa,” Shiota said softly with a smile, “call me Nagisa, please. There’s a chance that my family name might be changing so I prefer to be called my given name.”

“Sure thing, Nagisa,” Sugino beamed, “I’m Sugino, by the way.”

“Hi Sugino,” Nagisa said, “nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you too.”

“So, uh-”

“Your hair,” Sugino blurted out because he has no self-control, “it’s..”

“Oh,” Nagisa didn’t seem surprised, eyes going slightly downcast, “yeah, it’s a bit long. I’ve been meaning to cut it but-”

“No, I mean,” Sugino got the feeling that he was approaching a touchy subject, “I mean is it actually blue? Were you born with it?”

“Oh,” he actually looked surprised at that question, with the way his eyes widened slightly, “yeah, actually. My mum’s got blue hair as well. I-”

Just then the bell rang, signalling that break was over and that they should make their way towards their classrooms.

“I-I should get going,” Nagisa said, tightening the grip he had on the strap of his school bag and offering a small smile, “I wouldn’t want to make you late.”

‘Yeah, you’re right. Have a nice day.”

“You too,” and with that the boy turned around and walked away whilst Sugino watched after him.

He wondered if he’d ever meet Shiota Nagisa again.

He really hopes he does.
